I had the same issue with my seat and shifter bar...I ended up actually just mounting the bar out on the sides of the wheel tower rather than straight up to it. Now I have more room than I'll ever need for a big ass seat and the shifter is still within reach without strain :)
At the end of the video he says it's $397 plus shipping, but if you live in North America shipping is free on all their products. And tax free as well if you're ordering from the United States. I've ordered a couple of times from them and there's never been any tax or shipping cost. Pretty unbeatable, out of the box and ready to go setup for $397 all-in if you ask me. You can get a rough equivalent for a little bit cheaper if you order the profiles yourself, but you won't get a pedal tray and wheel mount of that quality. Overall, if it's not rigid enough for you, you can add some stabilizing brackets to the wheel uprights for not too much extra money.
Are you sure it's really free shipping? I just ordered an ASR1 cockpit from Advanced Sim Racing and they charged me a separate fee of $13.10 on top of the $467.99 I paid for the ASR1 rig. So this tells me that it is not truly free, and I live in the United States too

But no business will make shipping truly free, the cost of shipping is offset in the price of the product being sold in these "free shipping" situations and any other added fees most likely are warehouse related. I'm guessing you didn't take any business related classes, otherwise you would have known that too

Shipping was fast and their customer service is second to none. Put it all together @Advanced SimRacing is the best choice hands down for North America's. When you factor in shipping and conversion fees ASR is the best price. I spent months pricing out all the different chassis from many different vendors.
Good to hear, I ordered mine last night! And yeah, the shipping really did it for me. I was looking at a cheaper rig and over $300 in shipping but with ASR I was able to use that $300 in a better quality rig and not transit money.
I bought this with the shifter arm but no support, once I find the height I want I am gonna purchase a support at the right size that fits under the shifter arm so I don't have that post sticking out. I suppose you could cut the one it comes with as well!
I bolted the Fanatec CSL DD up to this ASR1 cockpit with a side mount and I have not noticed any flex at all when using it at its rated power of 8Nm. However, I do have the supported shifter arm bolted up as well so that may be helping a little with keeping flex at minimum
I just got mine today, mine didn't come with a face plate, I only the have side mount. Is that how the CSL DD should be, or did yours come with a face plate aswell.
@Beast Nicholls mine came with the side mount and the CSL DD spacers only. If you have not mounted the CSL DD yet, use four M6 16mm (with 1.0 thread spacing which matches the CSL DD anchors) bolts with it since each side mount is 6mm thick. I used 4 M8 spacers as well since the kit has so many, on the outside of the side mount to give the bolts a better anchor point since the side mount holes are a tad too large for them to anchor securely. My CSL DD certainly is very secure on there doing this
not sure if this might help anyone but the extra attachment for shifter /handbrake was mounted slightly wrong the verticle part near his elbow is supposed to be mounted on the outside of the rig not ontop and the horizontal part that the sequential shifter is on is also supposed to be mounted to the outside of the tall verticle piece that leads to the wheel this was probably super confusing but if you look at the picture on the website for the attachment is will explain beter....only reason i mention it is so people will still consider this option when i saw what an inconvience it was i was going to be to mount a shifter i was going to opt for a beter model but it has the same base width thats when i noticed the attachment was mounted slightly diffrent then intended and if mounted corectly it would give the extra clearence nessary to enjoy als they have shifter handbrake and mouse pad attachment that go on that attachment
That extra room may work better for some but his setup is an option to try. The other thing improvised on this video is the pedal plate is reversed, the folded edge is at the front of the rig on the website
do you think the asr3 will have less wheel flex than the asr1? I believe the only difference is the bottom extrusion is slightly beefier. Im currently using the 8nm csl dd
Thanks for the video! Great insights on what to expect and some good tips for set up. Any input on whether it is best to have a stand alone monitor stand vs. the integrated ones? I would think any flex/wobble in the rig might vibrate the monitor on the integrated ones.
In the video he mounted a Simucube 2 which outputs 17nm which is more than the simagic Alpha mini (10nm) so it should be okay. You will still see some flex but less than what Barry shows in the video.

@@sixx1095 well you yourself saw how it handled a wheel base with over twice the strength of a CSL DD. But yes usually these rigs are designed to withstand a bit more than the recommended use. The ASR 3 isn't much more expensive and you can get a rig that is more future proof than the ASR 1 in case you ever upgrade your wheel base.
While it certainly might not fully eliminate the flex caused by maximum pressured applied on such a heavy duty pedal set (which is not the goal of the ASR 1 either), it will help for sure! It's made be reinforced at the front end with the bent steel shape.
If I could buy this, or the NLR GTTrack for about the same money, which would you recommend? I know the GTtrack is supposedly a higher end product but this seems more sturdy and its 2 years newer and made in North America
I'd definitely get this. I have a Next Level F-GT, which uses very similar materials/design to all their other products. It's okay, but definitely feels cheap and there is lots of flex. The GTTrack is just their wheel stand with a seat added on. The seat is basically just a low quality "gaming chair" bolted to a metal bracket. I think it's overpriced for what it is.
I am glad to hear you bought the 8020 instead of the GTtrack. I had a used one for a while, the chair is garbage, looks fancy with the seatbelt, but it’s flimsy with not much support. The adjustment is definitely not as flexible as any aluminum profile rig.
I have a VRS DFP on the ASR1, and it does have some serious flex at really high loads. BUT. It is usually not noticeable, and really fun. I think its slightly less than "sufficient", planning on purchasing more aluminum or hardware to make the rig more stable.
No, most of their products are pretty good. They've been having some issues with missing bolts on their profile rigs but I hear that's been ironed out.
Overrated, ASR is as good if not better than SimLab, their rigs have their owns drawbacks. The ASR 3 is the one that competes with the GT1 Evo, and it hasn't been reviewed on this channel yet. Their ASR6 performed as well as the P1. ASR is a no-brainer for anyone in North America not wanting to pay exorbitant shipping/duties fees on a rig without sacrificing quality. The ASR1 is also not advertised as a DD wheel, so the top-of-the-line equipment he's using in his review is not what's recommended to be used with the product to begin with, and it still handled it very well for the price point of the rig.
I had ASR6 but moved to GT1 (a lighter rig). ASR uses very good quality channels, almost as good as Simlab. But the primary advantage of Simlab is the fasteners. Miles better than ASR in terms of quality fit and finishing. Simlab has a very tight tolerance level, which makes their products still top choice for any sim rig. Even the GT1-EVo can handle any DD very well, zero flex. The only advantage ASR has is the price. But if anyone can get a Simlab rig on black friday, no better deal than that.
ASR uses the spring ball T-nuts, just like Sim Lab. They also use very similar, channel-locking corner brackets...You just moved from a P1-X level rig, to a much smaller rig in the GT1. Why? By the way, I have a GT-1 Evo from Sim-lab. They're great. But I'd rather have an ASR6.
Lol no dude just no, go watch Barry's GT1-EVOs review video to see how much flex there is in the uprights when he uses the Shifter. Also you gotta factor in the absolute butt rape that is Sim-Labs shipping, which is free with ASR.

For me the reson you buy a 8020 rig is becuse that will be your last rig. You will never need more. But that pedal flex is not okay, compared to some competion. GT omega had the same problem

@@Maverick09925 Most people including me who use a GT1-EVO can confirm that it has absolutely zero flex, even with a Simucube Ultimate with 50% FFB. Simlab is very very high quality. ASR is very good but still not at Simlab level. For the price ASR isnt bad.

In any case, I don't get how you can come to the conclusion that ASR is inferior to Sim Labs unless you've tried an ASR rig. Both the ASR3 and the GT One are built with almost identical pieces. You've just got a bias (along with most people) towards Sim Labs due to them marketing their stuff via streamers on twitch/youtube who promote the hell out of the brand.

If you flip the pedal tray to the intended position (cutout towards the seat) it will lessen the flex you are seeing in the plate.

If I want to keep the wheel as low as possible is the side or top mount better for the csl dd?
@@SpartanA31xx the side mount is better since it will allow you to angle the DD upwards slightly if needed for comfort like in a real car.

At the time of writing this, the ASR 1 is actually only $350 with free shipping in North America. What a deal.
Looks to me like the shift/handbrake mounting arm inherently increases the rigidity of the upright(s). Obviously higher = more stiffness.

This rig seems like a budget king to me. Unless you just have the cash for a P1X and it doesn't hurt your wallet, why buy anything else?

The only reason we can offer it at this price is because we buy extremely large volumes of Aluminum from a U.S. mill that is cut here in Montreal, Canada. We have a 1000$ option however (ASR 6), if that's what you are looking to invest in your SimRacing chassis... :D
