  • October 17, 2004 (NLCS Game 4) - St. Louis Cardinals' pitcher Julián Tavárez comes in for relief. He gives up the go-ahead run on a Carlos Beltrán home run and then nearly takes Jeff Bagwell's head off, a pitch that would cost Tavárez $10,000 after being fined by the commissioner's office. After escaping a bases-loaded jam, Tavárez breaks his hand when he punches the bullpen phone.

Favorite pitcher of all time. I was in elementary when he played in Cleveland. I first remember when he slammed the umpire. I loved baseball fights. All of us kids would come running to watch as soon as someone got hit.

On a pretty funky swing too. The way it comes around the back half. But still went down and got it. Great piece of hitting and power display. He was on a tear.

If you’re Taveras, you can’t even get mad at that. That’s where you want that pitch located. Beltran golfed it out of the park, which is nearly impossible.

Luck and a great catcher. That’s the only reason he did. That ball gets past, another run scores, the double play is off the table, and you got two runners in scoring position? After how he got there? He’d have been doomed.

Beltran, Lidge, Biggio, Bagwell, Burke, Clemens, Andy, Oswalt, etc. It's a shame on what the Astros are today. A disgrace.
