      I kind of depends on the state you're in, a lot of states in the US do have caps on punitive damages, and corporations lobby the government to pass these sorts of laws.
      That being said, I would suggest watching the plaintiffs' testimonies. These people faced waves of harassment for years every time someone on Info Wars mentioned Sandy Hook families. They didn't seem to be in it for the money, but instead to make infowars have to shut down to stop the harassment.

      Similarly, you can't shout fire in a crowded theatre. Y'all should really do some research on what the first amendment actually says, because Alex already attempted to take this to higher courts based on his first amendment defense.

      For him to try to appeal, he will have to put the money into an account OR get a bond for insurance for that amount. The insured bond will need to be provided with any appeal. Without a bond insuring he can pay the amount, then he won't even be able to file any appeal.
      Further complicating any appeal is that Alex INTENTIONALLY defaulted on the trial portion, so any question of liability or the trial itself are off the table for Alex. They will be summarily dismissed.

    I never forget how the bankruptcy court assigned a trustee on my car accident and this guy after he kept me waiting almost 2 years and he pocketed $30,000. I just hope the bankruptcy case is dismissed and not assigned to a trustee.

Jones has lied and scammed the courts at every step of the way in this case. He lied so brazenly that his own attorneys fired him as a client... several times.
      Forensic auditors estimate he's got around 280 million in cash and assets. He pulls in 50 million a year or more in revenue, and he's hugely wasteful with his spending. He also refuses to pay any money to help raise his own children. He sucks.
      Fortunately for Jones, the state of Texas loves to protect criminals and conmen, so long as they are rich and they put their money into Texas real estate.

    If I recall: In Virginia, he would have to put a bond on the amount of what was awarded in damages for the appeal (I remember that from the Amber Heard defamation lawsuit that Johnny Depp won). So I wonder if Texas and Connecticut also require such a bond. And considering the bankruptcy of Infowars and likely also Alex Jones, it means that if such a bond was mandatory, he will not be able to file for appeal unless someone "sympathetic" to his cause starts bankrolling him.

      He was not charged with a crime. This was a civil lawsuit with no "prosecutors", simply plaintiffs' lawyers and respondents' lawyers. The default judgment was enacted by the judge, not "the prosecution" because AJ refused to comply with discovery orders. If someone sues you and rather than put up a defense, you refuse to comply with court orders, you lose by virtue of default. Not complicated.

      He could've argued his case against the FBI agent if he had produced any of his financial records and website analytics information during the discovery process, but he didn't produce documents during discovery. That's kind of a big no no, which his lawyers definitely knew, so he was found guilty by default.

      They didn't receive the big money in Punitive. That's where the TX jury screwed up. These jurists knew to award in the compensatory section under defamation. That section has no cap.
      I think an appellate court will reduce it but still have a significant amount for each family.

    Firstly, if justice is what it’s supposed to be there will be a retrial with Jones given the Constitutional rights he was denied. For the time being he will be in the appeal process for several years and doing his show as usual. Secondly he is bankrupt and wasn’t permitted to say so in that circus hearing. If in the end he doesn’t get a retrial then what he has left will be sold off which won’t add up to more than a couple million dollars and none of the families will see much, especially with the lawyers taking their customary 1/3 cut.

    No appellate court will allow a default judgment in these incredible damage amounts. Appellate courts have complete disdain for default judgments and they care very little what brought the parties to that point.
    A default judgment is a sanction and it’s so manifestly unfair that most appellate courts will kick it back and force the parties to engage in a real trial.

Greiving parents not only had to deal with that but threats from others who believed Jones' lies. One court ordered Jones to pay $965 million, a Texas jury 50 million, and it looks like there is yet another trial upcoming as well. There is no such thing as a false opinion or idea - however, there can be a false fact, and these are not protected under the First Amendment. Jones will pay the piper. So my question is, do you believe what Jones said about the Sandy Hook Massacre is true?
