I was doing so much wrong...pushing air too hard...laryx too low and stable not floating...the 'ee' and 'i' vowel I was totally doing wrong...my tongue was too low....i sounded hootey...I just recorded ten songs I have done 100 times. I sound AMAZING!!! Finally!! Its like all ten years came together the past two weeks!! I can finally post to sing in a band without worrying they'll laugh at me!! :) THANK YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH..I'd send money but I'm broke...but happy! :)

Some high notes do that for me. It's like the vocal folds stop vibrating somehow. Yes it's slightly above my normal range but getting the muscles stretched and thus raising the frequency is a personal goal. It's not proving easy; and I swear I didn't hit that issue so soon prior to when I caught Covid (I'm probably barking up the wrong tree though). I'll go check out your high notes video link.

I've had an ENT say I may have a paralyzed vocal chord. I'm working through it without the suggested Botox injections that may or may not work. It might be a good idea to have a simple test done by an ENT just to see what could be causing the problem. Hopefully, just using the suggested helps from Victoria will help. It's taking time, but her free video information is helping me. Best wishes and I hope this helps.

Oh good!! This is something I needed to see especially when trying to hit higher notes. I had been locking up. Couldn't figure out why, and would get frustrated. This video is very informative and easy to practice with. Thank you!
By the way, I love that peacock picture behind you! 😊

Thank you so much, Victoria. I've had so much tension for years and learning to relax those areas has been tough, but it has been helping. I've always had the strength for a reasonable volume, but my breath support and tone is getting steadier and not cutting out. It takes practice and thoughtfulness, but I can tell it's happening. I'm 65 so I've also accepted my voice isn't going to sound like it did 10 years ago. Thanks again for your helpful exercises and sharing your knowledge.

I've had this happen to me. My voice teacher helped me by glissando exercises and singing through a straw. Mostly it was because I wasn't singing regularly.

I only subscribed to your channel last week and I've since been watching your videos. I've been singing for the past 20 years and only realised why i could never hit high notes. Every time i see the high notes ahead, my heart begins to race, by body consciously gets ready to go past it and i all stiffen up as a results. Its been quite embarrassing too especially when i sound like I've been strangled.
Then i can't sing for too long before i am exhausted.
Finally, i consoled myself by saying our pitches depend on how deep or light we speak, but it's not true because i speak lighter than you do and yet you can go so high.
I need help to transcend all these barriers especially since I have to sing every Sunday. Thank you

My voice doesn't stop entirely but all the words sound pretty disconnected and staccato ish as if the placement changes for each word/vowel and the starting words of the phrases get unintentionally breathy as if there's an airflow explosion and the ends of the phrases loose support and get throaty. The passage of air is also not consistent throughout the phrase almost as if the compression unintentionally juggles depending upon the word(This is more evident on the middle to lower part of the range). Any solution for this?

Hello Victoria, my case is not the same that you are describing in this video, but it's similar. My problem is that I can't seem to hold a note without my voice "breaking" or "trembling" (for example, when holding the "aaaaaaaay" note in the word "play"). It doesn't happen always, but like 90% of the time (I've observed that I have a high chance of not correctly holding the note if it's a low note, like G#2 or F#2). It's frustrating. Do you have any video for solving this? I hope you understand my problem. 😭

Without seeing or hearing you, it could be the diphthong (AY), which is even harder to sustain on a long note. Watch this video to help with the vowel: YOU MUST KNOW THESE VOWEL RULES! I specialize in vocal technique for singing, AND many singers find that their speaking voices improve when they apply some of the singing principles like eliminating throat tension, improving airflow, etc.
