I was so involved with vocal activities when I was a kid, and singing always came so easy to me, that when people were telling me that they couldn’t sing, I didn’t understand how that could be possible. Now that I’m older, I totally understand what it means to not be able to sing. It just breaks my heart because it’s the only thing I ever really love to do that I was good at.
I"m sorry to read this Jacqueline. Why are you not able to sing now? What has happened?

Hmmm... I guess I would start with some very simply daily exercises for your voice. I would try to do a little bit every day - 5 minutes or so. Then 7 minutes, as you feel you can. No big push. Just a gentle beginning to inviting your voice back into shape. Here's video that offers you an idea or two. ruclips.net/video/jPk-Ch-5iuI/видео.html
If you would like a few more ideas, be in touch with me here: barbara.lewis2008@gmail.com
Better to explore this a little more out of public view!
I'm 64 and yes it's hard to get your voice back in shape. But u can do it. I was very sick the last 5 years so really couldn't sing or practice. This meant I lost vocal range and strength. But with practice in the last year I've slowly slowly began to get it back and have my full range again. And vocal strength. So u can do it. The thing I've found though I now have to work harder to keep my voice in shape and to not crack on notes and lose pitch. I do scales before I sing anywhere and anytime I practice at home I do warm ups to help sing better. Being older just means we need to work harder now but u can get back what u had with persistent hard daily work.
🎉
Thank you
Always loved singing

You are most welcome, Marcus. There is nothing like singing to keep us younger and in the flow of breath. I hope you keep singing for a long time...
81 years old sang in a choir all my life I was asked to do the bass part of Shine Jesus Shine for a virtual service.... I recorded it and discovered that on some of the notes I was off???!!!, so hoping to sort this out, love your pleasant personality which makes it easier to receive guidance Thank You! Be Well
Thank you for watching, Neil. I'm so pleased that you found the video helpful. I wonder if you watched my latest videos about hearing? They might give you a bit of a boost. We know that our hearing does change at least a bit, as we age. So you may need to do some careful re-tuning of your ear to get back into tune. I'd love to know how it goes! Wonderful to hear from you. I wish you continued great singing!

Many thanks, Barbara. I am 66 now, going on 67, started to sing at 58. Trying to get as much out of my singing as I can. Very high voice, always struggled with low notes but now I was able to do the very low exercises with ease. Will follow more of your lessons, thanks!
Wonderful that you are developing your singing abilities, Francisca! Our 60's are powerful years to build a stronger voice and to deepen our expressive potential. Amazing how singing and music can help us to keep our minds in better shape. Singing is better than many drugs - or so the scientists say!
@@BarbaraLewis-SingingAfterForty Thanks for still another reply and you are absolutely right. I feel that I am a lot more expressive now, especially because my singing has created such a havoc in my life. It is as if I channel almost rage into my singing, while still managing to keep the tenderness (or so I hope). Yes, singing has been a lifeline for me. And has helped me make a lot of friends too and regain my sense of self-worth. By the way, I love busking too. Now the weather is getting better (never too good here in England), I will be out there in the street. Take care.........
Wonderful THANK YOU SO MUCH
You are most welcome, Mary. I'm happy that you found this video helpful! My best to you, Barbara.
awesome exercises thank you 😀
Glad you like them! Thank you for taking the time to respond!
Thank you Maestra ❤
You're very welcome 😊
Love this new channel. Now that I’m 50, I’m having trouble with some notes in my break that sound breathy and weak, (G, A B on the staff). Also find that after singing at a couple of things, later in the evening, my voice is not optimal anymore. How can I keep my voice healthy all day?
Sorry, Stella, i did not see your message until today! In answer to your question about keeping a healthy voice, there are many variables involved in doing that. Do you eat well? Do you sleep well? Do you talk a lot during the day. Do you drink enough water? Are you exercising your voice often? Voices stay healthy - or not - for many reasons. Start with your daily rituals - eating, sleeping, drinking etc. - are you doing ok in that regard? Then move on to other needs like voice exercises. And have a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/Q5_HOGhCP_I/видео.html I wish you the best with your voice. Be in touch again with an update, if you like My best, Barbara
Great video, thank you. Do you have any insight into how Hashimotos can impact the vocal cords and anything to do about it?
I don't have experience with that problem. But in doing a quick Google search, I found this information. Perhaps an ENT doctor can be more helpful to you. Are you suffering in this way:? "Patients with thyroid pathology, apart from other symptoms, may also complain about voice changes, the most common being hoarseness, breathiness, strain, and uncertainty about how the voice will sound [28]. Cases of low voice, rough voice, reduced vocal range, and vocal fatigue were also reported."
I have to sit when I sing. How can I improve my singing?
Hello njhoxsey... Please tell me more about why you are sitting and how your voice is doing right now?
I play piano at church and have to sit. Also I have knee problems and have to sit. I am 70 and do sing a lot lower now. I do very well unto I get up to A, B flat and up. I have started steam recently.
