I've uninstalled Edge and Webview from all 5 machines I have and nothing has happened badly, with Webview gone MS apps still work well and get updated they are just in the older versions which I prefer as there are no ads, and after many windows updates Edge and Webview have not returned

  • @CedroCron

For people with Lenovo brand computers you will need "Edge Webview 2" installed which are the base components in order to use the Lenovo Vantage system program that checks for Firmware/Driver updates. This is a minimal engine that makes the Lenovo Vantage program work without needing the full Edge installed. Other than that I haven't seen anyone "need" edge because hardly anyone uses the Microsoft Store. On Pro versions of Windows it will keep Edge off your PC if you set a registry entry because on Pro versions the option is respected because of business PC's

I prefer to have a clean tidy system, that's why I uninstalled or deactivated all these preinstalled by manufacture utilities. Instead I have an intel support assistant, that takes care of all essential components: processor, GPU (also intel), wifi adapter. That's enough to keep the firmware and drivers updated, all the rest is done by windows updates. Brand is not important. Only components are essential, so if you have AMD/nvidia components, you need something else

First thing to do with a new PC... reinstall Windows. Anything the manufacturer puts on is bloat/crapware that you don't need. Lenovo Vantage and Intel Assistant are junk. It's not hard to update a driver.

@@brianadams1503 yeah intel assistant is a junk as well. But it's not that big pile of trash like vantage and other vendor utilities are. Clean install is a good idea )

Wrong! Lenovo Vantage features like Battery Conservation still functioning well even if you uninstalled Lenovo Vantage. That Webview is mainly for playing Microsoft games like Forza 5 through Xbox app though, not for Lenovo Vantage.

It cant be uninstalled, it resist being shut down in task manager (check the search process, there are about 7-9 Edge view processes running), and its heavy in the background using RAM, CPU, and internet resources. Its a real pain when you want a bloat free benchmark of the system, an upgrade, etc. I paid the full price for a trouble free OS not ads, spam, redirects, bloat. When the ads come I am going to run Linux as an alternative OS and if I like it Windows is out. I want to own my build.

I have a revo uninstaller and I did uninstall copilot, but I made a recovery point before that and reverted it back, in fear it was a wrong move. I am really considering the Linux alternative, comes the Win11 compulsory, using the Win11 on absolutely necessary work that cannot be done on Linux. Fed up with this dependency when you cannt customise your own PC.

@@Britec09 I haven't tried it yet, but I am a trainable monkey. Linux enthusiasts say it is more and more user friendly and I guess more people will move to it if Windows keeps doing this to the users. Not everybody is as obedient to the corporations. Like with Chromium considering blocking adblocks, more people move to Firefox.

I don't know why in 2024 this is still a thing. There was a big uproar in the late 90's with not being able to remove Internet Explorer. MS said IE couldn't be separated from the OS. So the US government brought a lawsuit against microsoft. After the lawsuit, low and behold IE could be uninstalled. Why haven't they done the same with Edge by now? Probably because there's now money changing hands

  • @johngoard8272

Hmm Brian seems like MS have things stitched up so that Edge is not only difficult to remove but is essential for other services to work - a bit underhand eh?? In Australia as in the non EU countries is not able to be uninstalled but am going to keep to your advice re dumping it. The Edge app is still listed and in in place but I have it sitting in the background as it were and use Brave as my default browser.

If you are experiencing Edge not starting up perform the following steps:
    1) Delete the Edge profile located at \Users\\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data
    2) Perform a Repair (Apps/Edge/Repair)
Edge is now working for me!!!

I use unmodified Edge as my movie/show "streaming browser" for the monthly paid no-ads streaming service that I am signed up for on any given month, but that is it. Not a fan of Edge at all & its intrusiveness, but I suspect uninstalling it would be problematic & a headache in the making due to how deeply Microsoft has it integrated into Windows. I also dislike Chrome & won't install it on my personal PC (my work-supplied laptop has it though). I have always preferred to use Firefox (w/various add-ons) as my primary internet browser on my personal desktop build.

I don't uninstall Edge and Windows isn't the only operating system that comes with a browser installed. If you use Apple products you will have Safari installed and Android has Chrome and Amazon's Fire OS(based on Android) has a browser installed by Amazon and Linux usually has Firefox or another browser installed depending on the distro. The last step for me to start actually uninstall edge stopping completely updates and ripping everything out of the system that spies to microsoft was their ways of future plans for copilot, and even more data collection that passes any imaginable respect of privacy, I was removing different spying tools before as well to keep computer cleaner but now I am ripping everything off and leaving nothing untouched that wont hurt my daily experience, it is astonishing how you go from 5-6 gb ram and 130-160 task to under 3gb ram and 70-80 task just after doing some simple cleaning from microsoft tracking...

Thanks for your effort, but I always found the thing is to leave IE or Edge or M$ next effort in place, even leave it as the preferred browser, just install Firefox or Chrome as well. That does result in some minor inconvenience, but nothing like the inconvenience of a broken operating system when you take out the Monopoly Browser. One could argue the morals & ethics of this, that one shouldn't have to, but ...
You can get around it. Linux doesn't do any of this kind of stuff.

I can uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller Pro, , but I'd never uninstall it in fear of what Microsoft has made it tied into. I've just not put it on the Start menu anywhere in my Open Shell so as far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist. Nice upload again, thank you.

Uninstalling this nagware is one of the first things I do after installing Windows. Even if the user don't start it intentionally, it would load to memory on startup "to start faster" and pop up unexpectedly with some Windows functions that use the web and WON'T allow anything else.
Only thing broken is Microsoft help and Microsoft troubleshooters, which are useless anyway (rarely finds the cause of a problem or suggest anything beyond "update drivers" and "reboot"). I'd rather have a useless non-working feature than having Edge nagging me for several screens for login into Microsoft so it can present me with irrelevant news and ads.

except ff puts news/ads in the new tab page too and mozilla received $500 million dollar per year just to keep google as its default search engine.

Windows never up until here lately required Edge. It's full of spyware, holographic images, keystroke logger, Windows Edge Runtime Viewer turns on the camera and microphone without your knowledge.

if there would be no M$ Edge in preinstalled windows, I would rather install it. It's an essential browser in my system, along with Firefox (hardened user.js) and Mullvad.
Edge however is not allowed to visit any web site that it might want to )
Only those which I allow )

but chrome is preinstalled on android. safari is preinstalled on apple. even firefox is preinstalled on linux distributions. i do not get your point rather than microsoft being terrible.

Edge is fast and lightweight but lacks privacy, Firefox is a good balance of privacy, security and usability. Mullavad is mostly for testing
Edge is not terrible if you find its application purpose

LOL. Privacy. Mozilla does not give a fk on your privacy either either. They have ads on their discover page and received $500 million from Google annually just to set google as its default search engine. Plus buying AI company that literally says they will use your data.
Edge's reading view mode can bypass paywalls on a lot of websites. It just works.

@MichaelDustter Librewolf updater could be made silent (or I didn't find how to do so)
Firefox is fully configurable, and if you don't mind spending some time or use some script, it can be turned into Librewolf
      Mullvad is another good browser

I don't understand why people want to uninstall edge, I've used it since it came out and I don't mind using it. Yes they keep coming up with new crap for it but I just ignore that and keep using it in the normal way and it's fine. But each to their own as to some other browser is better. Please tell why any other browser is better...........

    • @user-od4gs3iu4t
      @user-od4gs3iu4t 23 дня назад +2

other browsers might be better for some people or in some cases, because they might be FOSS, privacy focused, like Firefox and its forks like Librewolf, Mullvad, Tor. Or use another interface which some people prefer, like Vivaldi. Edge has its own good points, it's lightweight and fast

Thus i dont need edge, so i use chromium and firefox as the main browser.
