So why not consider doing so here: ruclips.net/channel/UCc0qpQO6y4aB4IaZtLCZMXg Some clarification: - All I can confirm with the new included HDMI cable is that it's capable of faster transfer speeds than the old cable. However, it's notable that HDMI 1.4 cables can do 4K60 - especially over shorter runs. The issue stems from the quality of the manufacturing of the cable. The cheapest cables, which Switch/Wii U use, are capped at under 5Gbps, which means it can't handle 4K60 with HDR. It just isn't capable of it. 2.0 rated cables are basically 1.4 cables, that actually run at speeds rated high enough. They don't have to be pricey. Only 2.1 standard has SPECIFIC cables needed to take advantage of it. However, as noted, all I can confirm is that the current Switch OLED cable is fast enough for HDMI 2.0. - Yes, as noted by myself and others, the HDMI port is 2.0 compliant. - I am not an expert on any of this. I am pretty good with board repair (not great) and have experience in manufacturing, but that's different than engineering design. To give you an example, in my internet speed test video I labeled the graph correctly, but kept saying "megabyte", when I meant megabit. A really stupid (and simple) mistake to make. I also incorrectly framed the Switch OLED dock of possibly being capable of AI upscaling - that's not true. I had very basic information at the time. All of this is solved by taking more time with the videos, better editing, multiple recording sessions, and so forth. Something I want to focus on one day! Unfortunately, due to time constraints, this is what happens. I apologize. Even in this video, I mischaracterize HDMI cables some. Although the explanation is in there, it's a bit muddled.
Thanks for the vid and everything you do!! I really enjoy your stuff! I've said all along that I think IF Nintendo ever does some rendition of a Switch Pro or Ultimate or whatever people want to call it, I believe it'll come out with the Next Zelda game. It's too convenient that Nintendo has with basically every other system of theirs, done a Zelda themed release but for the switch they haven't done it yet? It also makes sense (to me) that they would do it like this because over the last decade Zelda has been building up steam (and yes there are people who have been fans for decades but we need to admit that next to Mario, Zelda has been heavily overshadowed) and this would be a very smart way to not only advertise the game but also make the new Switch fans take notice of a game that a lot might've overlooked. Those are just my thoughts. What do you think?
I don't think this is a sign of future proofing. I think it's just 4K capable as it's now cheaper to get HDMI 2.0b cables and controllers than HDMI 1.4 now. HDMI 2.0b is no longer the standard for high end hardware and TVs are aiming for higher as well so demand has fallen making the price fall. Meanwhile 1.4 is still getting older and fabs slowly get shutdown as it gets older. At some point the better hardware becomes cheaper as always. Nintendo is renowned for using the cheapest parts at the time to even mixing IPS and TN displays on the 3DS randomly. Hell the original Switch basically had the same display as the $90 Kindle Fire HD. I have no doubt the they're next system will output 4K and will likely take the shape of the Switch, but it will have a dedicated dock. I highly doubt they would design the OLED's specially for the next gen model when Original and OLED models are cross compatible.
The Tegra X1 in the Shield TV 2019 does AI upscaling, and it was released around the same time as the Switch V2 and Switch Lite. It is possible that the OLED has a different Tegra that is downclocked just like the regular switches are, and if that's the case, there could be features that are not present at the moment, but that could come with a system update (just like Bluetooth headphones being added YEARS later.)
All HDMI cables are functionally identical just like all USB cables are, because they all use the same pin out, and all that matters is the size of the plug when it comes to compatibility! Please stop misinforming others so they get ripped off when purchasing HDMI cables! The HDMI chip that is behind the HDMI port on the circuit board is what determines the HDMI version!
@@rctoyhobbygrademodskaraoke4047 no there are differences but it mostly has to do with shielding, wire gauge, etc. The big one is usually the chip used to control pin throughput. These chips have varying performance and so are a limitation when plugging them into a device. This is also why even though HDMI 1.4 had the same pins as 2.0, a 1.4 cable can never output full 2.0 video.
I don't understand why everyone is so hard up for a 4k signal on Switch. I have a 55 inch Samsung 4k TV and the OG Switch's 1080p looks great on my screen.
@@eatens No, it doesn't. 4K is just a resolution signal output. Has nothing to do with game performance. Switch OLED does not improve the performance of the games.
To clear things up, even the launch Switch dock supports up to one 4K stream or 4 1080p streams. The module in the console itself is DisplayPort 1.2 with a converter to USB-C. No matter what Switch you have, or what dock you have, Nintendo could unlock 4K support on (for Hulu, or even supported games if the SDK allowed it). I’ll do a video on it.
I think they need to do the actual tablet, otherwise all those games that rely on more powerful hardware to run won't function in portable mode. It's very likely many future 3rd party games would only be possible to be ported to Switch if the internals get upgraded.
This proves that the OLED model was planned to be able to output 4k when docked, but because of the chip shortage, they stuck with their old chipset to save money. From a business standpoint, they made a smart decision since switch sales keep going up, so there are no incentives to spend the extra cash trying to get expensive scarce components. It's still disappointing though, and I wish Nintendo were honest about it instead of outright lying. They would've gotten brownie points with their fanbase if they admitted that they would've loved to offer a higher quality switch, but couldn't due to the pandemic causing a worldwide chip shortage.
It doesn't prove that at all. It just means it supports 4k60fps - this could be futureproofing, or even used with current models for scaling or media content. The current Switch's Dock, even the WiiU can kind of support 4k30fps
personally if they do decide to go with a pro type device I really hope they manage to find a better name for it "Switch XL" perhaps. for the next Gen console I think they should go with "Super Nintendo Switch"
@@CasepbX the name "Switch XL" was not used for the OLED which I believe was a missed opportunity, however since they chose not to use that name they could use it for a new model before the next gen console comes out. this is nintendo we're talking about though so they might just skip it and move for a next gen console that is like the switch. who knows
Why does everyone think they are going to do a switch pro? 1. They've said they aren't. 2. Switch has been out almost 5 years. 3. They will be preparing for a next gen console in the next couple of years.
@@theindiediary5950 actually I don't think a Switch pro is likely but this is nintendo we're talking about. 1. they have a history of denying they plan to do something till they are ready to announce it. they did it as far back as the Super NES (Super Famicom in Japan) which they continuously insisted they had no intention of releasing outside of Japan. 2. yes and it still has at least 4 more years of life maybe 5 according to nintendo. 3. also nintendo is likely already preparing for a next gen console.
@@enriquepinero707 I think a big reason they don’t overclock it would be due to the heat output and tbh the switch’s heat solution isn’t really ideal if it was a regular console with full blown heat sink and fan then yea it would be fine the switch is by far the most hottest console in terms of heat compared to nintendo’s two past consoles
@@Lalovoe The games are not gonna run at native 4K it will just send a 4K signal to the TV while running at 1080p or 900p. The current Switch maxes out at 1080p and can only send a 1080p signal to the TV while running games in 720p, sub HD or lower. Same way how the PS5 and Series X are marketed as 4K machines but, run games at 1440p resolution upscaled to 4K.
@@enriquepinero707 Nintendo just like any other company know what they are doing with stable clock speeds for consistent performance, battery life and No over heating. It’s not Nintendo trolling it’s them not trying to design a 1 hour battery life hand heater.
@@alexbolt5 I agree when it comes to handheld mode. But in docked mode; with a good fan in the dockand ventilation system (combined with the little fan in the Switch); it could be possible. Maybe not with the OLED dock but again; one that takes potential heat issues in mind. It was also said that the current chip in the v2 Switches run better and cooler than the v1 versions. Let's also not forget the few official games that have a quality and performance mode programed in (Fire Emblem Warriors, Darksiders Warmastered and Rocket League. With the right focus and application; it's possible to get better performance in docked mode at least.
@@enriquepinero707 Yea like I don’t expect it to run hotter in handheld I have the launch and v2 switch’s and they all stay cool in handheld the issue is in dock play now I agree they can make it happen but they would have to change the ventelation or the inside cooling to be more efficient whithout having the need to put a external little fan right on the vents of the dock
If it can handle 4k, then it should do 1440. This is just the output resolution though and not the games internal rendering resolutions. It's meant to make it less blurry so your monitor/TV doesn't have to handle the upscaling.
Even if Nintendo went with a Tegra X2 it would not have been as big of a difference as people made it out to be. Along with Nvidia charging Nintendo a lot for the Tegra X2 and Nintendo coming from the failure that was the Wii U. Both Nintendo and Nvidia did not want to take that risk and it was the last decision made by the CEO that followed Mr. Satoru Iwata’s ideology of hardware. What matters know is if Nintendo goes all out on the Switch successor due to tremendous success and a new CEO.
@@ZackSNetwork Tegra X1 is even behind NVIDIA Pascal (GTX 1000 series cards) that is the minimum required for good framerates at 1080p in every single game out there. That is already way better than Tegra X1, Nintendo should implement DLSS and use a chip based on Ampere or something like that, because perfomance in games like Hyrule Warriors is extremely rough af, or playing Fortnite on the Switch, Doom Eternal, etc. SO GPU limited, also CPU limited.
@@ZackSNetwork I don't want Nintendo to put a Switch version of an RTX3090 and run better at 4k like the competition, at least i want them to be competent at 1080p without using dynamic resolution or dropping to 568p and other nonsense. For 4K, DLSS is enough, they fixed the horrible screen with the OLED model and the kickstand, now they have to fix the internals and fix the joysticks from the joycons.
@@ZackSNetwork CPU wise, i think the Switch has a 4 core, 4 thread ARM chip, when the absolute minimum for gaming is 4 core 8 thread at least on the x86 side. The worst part is that in reality the Switch only has 3 cores for games, the remaining one core is for the OS. I think they wil launch a 4+4 chip, at least 4 high perfomance cores, and maybe 3 efficient cores as the max for games, then you can switch between different games without having to close them.
@@saricubra2867 Fortunately, very reliable Nvidia leaker(Kopite7kimi) already leaked a new Orin based chip with lovelace GPU codenamed Dane for a future Nintendo Switch. It should be capable of DLSS and considering Orin A78 CPUs, even 6 cores with moderate clocks should blow out of the water the CPU of the last gen consoles including the midgen ones. A Switch with this chip can't be a Switch Pro, the difference between this and the Switch is just too colossal. For exemple, there is a 5 generation difference in terms of GPU(but it may land somewhere between 1 to 2Tflops depending on the clocks. recall the Switch is 0,393Tflops) and let me not even start with the CPU and all of that before taking into account DLSS. Late 2022 or early 2023 will be very interesting. I just hope Nintendo will not screw this up with some useless gimmick or sky high price.
You are 100% correct! The dock is definitely future proof and Nintendo will sell us a 4K or Pro Model as a stand alone to keep the price at what Nintendo consumers even the hardcore ones expect. 350.00 in about year without the dock. Extra 50.00 with the dock. I think this OLED model will push 4K 30fps in the future. You want 60fps you get the pro model when the time comes. Good analysis!
Wow man you are popping... every nintendo news RUclipsr I watch mentioned you today. Awesome work with getting it early and putting out a world first! Hope you and your family are soo proud of you and the work you do.
There are no "HDMI 1.4/2.0/2.1 cables". Proper HDMI cable names are: "Standard", "High Speed", "Premium High Speed" and "Ultra High Speed". "Standard" cable has 720p limit, "High Speed" is what you are describing as "1.4 cable". But you can do 4K@60Hz (HDMI 2.0) without a problem with good quality "High Speed" cable, or you can buy "Premium High Speed" which is certified to work with HDMI 2.0. And you said "seems to take 1.4 and convert to 2.0", I don't know how to comment on that, it's just stupid.
You have redeemed yourself for breaking the Switch OLED. I had no idea you knew so much about the chip technicalities. Thanks for the deep dive and color me impressed! 😊
With Manufacturing and shipping issues related to the pandemic. It will be hard for everybody to get what they want this holiday season period until next year or later.
What about if the game is created in 4K ? Wouldn’t the system be able to just push 4K to the tv without having to upscale after some firmware updates ? Could explain the 4K dev kits. I’m not a big tech guy so I’m just asking.
I always felt the dock would play a significant role in providing better graphics on the screen and this would make perfect sense. The OLED tablet doesn't possess enough system memory for games these days and you could forget about streaming since some places have some really crappy internet. That's why a new tablet for a new generation could be in the works. I just wished the OLED was that tablet.
I posted this on another youtuber's video the other day, and I think it's worth sharing here "I think you may be right. I think maybe the OLED should have been the updated Switch but it got pushed back. Might explain why the dock has a chip with updatable firmware (maybe to enable 4k when the time is ready) When you consider all the little changes to the Switch OLED, it does seem like almost an upgraded system, rather than just "we can't get the original LCD anymore so we're switching to OLED"" The only thing with this though is what would they do to differentiate a 4K Switch from a standard one? Larger screen again? At least with the OG switch being the old model and the 4k one being the OLED with all the improvements, it would have been obvious which was which. Would they just put the new internals into the OLED chassis? Might cause confusion
But why did it get pushed back? Nate said there's no actual chip or semiconductor shortage, so why would they choose to release this half step instead? 🤔
@@corey2232 No Idea. Maybe to run down current inventory? Maybe there is a contract in place that Nintendo agreed to X years of production or something? I can't comment on whatever is in the Switch, but I have heard problems with people getting PS5/Xbox and graphics cards in general. Maybe it's some availability issue that affects the new chipset and not the old one? Maybe availability of LCD panels forced their hand a bit so they had to bring forward plans for the new chassis, but with Christmas coming up, they know it'll sell well anyway. They don't /need/ a 4k Switch at this point. Maybe next year if/when sales start to slow. I dunno. it's what makes this situation so interesting/mysterious. On one hand we have people saying there is proof (and other things that point to) a 4k Switch, yet we got this weird semi update Thing is they will just deny anything to do with a 4k Switch right now because they know it'll kill OLED sales. I'd certainly cancel if I knew a 4k Switch was 100% happening
Not sure who this Nate guy is, but I assume it's not me. There are multiple bottlenecks currently in the chip manufacturing business happening right now.
I would like if Nintendo puts a special graphics card on the Switch's dock designed by NVIDIA and for the Switch itself. They simply improve the CPU and RAM speed on the Switch itself. That would be a crazy idea.
I gotta say what we need on the switch is no stick drift 1080 60 fps And it being more comfortable I dont use 4k because there is one 4k tv in the house that is my parent's tv what we need is 60fps less stutters overall better hardware Oh also a built in mic
to be honest the switch itself is capable of outputing 4k via displayport through USB C I could see in later years people building a dock that overclocks the CPU and goes directly to DP instead of HDMI
I bet several people complaining about 4k image quality with 1080p content haven't had their TV's calibrated professionally and might even ask what that means. A TV's built in upscaler as well as various settings can drastically affect what your videogame will look like on your screen.
They GOTTA be atleast doing the RUclips or Netlflix at 4K at some point with this Switch, because otherwise, why add the Update Dock option for both of the current models?
Yo so I was stuck on champions ballad waterblight because my switch had fps drop when there was too many cryonis stuff going on and causing button lag. Yesterday I got my Zelda OLED and was able to get past this and immediately noticed no fps drop. Nintendo says there is no performance enhancement. Hmm
@juliette Irene Yes, but Nvidia’s DLSS technology only does AI upscaling on a case-by-case basis, while AMD’s FSR does AI upscaling across all games. So Nintendo would want an AI upscaler that’ll be universal to every developer!!
@@mattimusprimal637 How do you even know that especially with rumors all pointing to a custom new Nvidia SOC that would have DLSS technology. I don’t see why Nintendo can’t use both DLSS or FSR just like at 2000 and 3000 series Nvidia GPU’s can.
@@ZackSNetwork Yes! I agree!! We need the next-gen Switch that's able to handle 3rd Party ports from last-gen (XBOne & PS4) and current-gen (XB Series X|S & PS5) games!!
Since it’s a nvidia Tegra X1 Nintendo with the help of Nvidia company could add an AI upscaling software to the Nintendo switch OLED via Update. Also the 4k capability combined with the Ethernet input could be use with cloud gaming.
I am happy my 8k tv have ai upscaling so the image will look much better than non ai powered upscaling. It actually has a similar effect on image quality as anti aliasing and it makes the image look much clearer too. I really hope Nintendo will release a more capable machine soon anyway because playing at a higher resolution is still better than ai upscaling.
I wouldn't think it's a switch pro more likely ever switch a revision but it probably look a lot like the switch just a different architecture probably act a lot like the OG switch/switch OLED just with a completely different architecture
I hope the Switch Pro comes with a dock. It's weird that the OLED dock has what it has now when the Switch itself won't support or really make full use of it.
I have a feeling nintendo is going to try and see if cloud gaming catches on with the switch for new 3rd party games, and if that is the case wouldn't the dock need an hdmi 2.0 port in order to stream a 4k cloud game to a tv?
Ahhh...well then, I should be fine waiting, as I love the OG Switch anyway. I'm currently playing Metro Redux, and the game looks gorgeous on the Switch handheld.
even ps5 is not capable of 4k with 60fps now, and switch oled is handheld. the steam deck which is more expensive and as big as a brick is around the same performance as PS4. do people even know what are they asking?
It's also worth considering how graphically simple switch games are, running BOTW at 4K 60fps is much easier than horizon zero dawn at 4K 60fps. I still find a true 4K 60fps switch very unlikely, but the games in question are worth considering.
Because it's capable of both doesn't mean both at the same time. They're saying it can run up to 4K or it can also run up to 60 FPS. But that doesn't necessarily mean doing both of those things at the same time, which would require very powerful hardware.
@@InfiniteInspirationInc that software still takes hardware power though, dlss on an Nvidia card takes processing power that would normally be used for rendering the game in the regular way. The final result is better than native rendering, but it isn't free. The dock does not appear to be designed for upscaling, it just straight up doesn't have the juice required for running that level of dlss.
Are you sure it’s not for 4K Netflix streaming so that Nintendo can stream their new Mario movie on their own device, as Netflix already streams a lot of Illumination films ???
I'm just remember M cables.. it's can output upscalling too at 4K resolution, maybe Nintendo buying their chips for 4K upscalling coz maybe Nvidia can't provide their next Tegra with ready 4K with lower Watts
Thanks for confirming my early predictions. This is actually big news for a new pro oled with dlss. What I would find interesting is how a switch pro would handle being on a standard dock. Would we get 1080p*60 for everything?
What do you think of this? What if Nintendo decides to just release the upgraded tablet by itself so people are not buying so many parts? It can be cheaper coming by itself?
Nice video. This really makes sense. It’s a very Nintendo thing to do. More and more evidence keeps saying that either they planned to release OLED all along or that a 4K was planned but was changed due to COVID issues affecting components and this was their alternative.
People seem to agree that having 4k games on switch would ensure higher quality 1080p games from what I understand. I personally don’t care too much for frame rate dips and such when playing certain games on the switch because that’s why I have an Xbox and PlayStation. Granted some of Nintendo’s titles could be better optimized, but it’s not like they’re absolutely unplayable
When you look at how games like Age of Calamity run in just 720/1080p with the current Tegra Chip, it would be very very difficult to run 4K and have it run at 30fps or more. So while technically it may be able to, in practice probably not.
No, the dock is now 4K compatible(it can transfer or output a 4K image from the console to the TV, something the normal dock can't do) with an eventual Switch 2 4K. The 4K upscale of the Tegra X1 is more suited for multimedia purposes if I recall correctly. So it may only be useful for RUclips.
Help anyone : I just upgraded to the Oled model. Will I be missing out on better docked performance or fidelity by using the old switch dock and hdmi cable? Thank you 😎
Just my 2 cents, ppl have to stop looking forward to a 4k switch it won't happen anytime soon, all I hear is 4k 4k. But it's not needed. Most of the games they have now won't support 4k gameplay which makes it pointless. Unless you want to sit there and rebuy all your games

Please stop misinforming others so they get ripped off when purchasing HDMI cables! The HDMI chip that is behind the HDMI port on the circuit board is what determines the HDMI version!
Not true. There are different speeds capability’s in hdmi cables (and for that matter, usb cables). You can’t take and old usb a to usb c cable, as an example, and have it work with s Logitech brio webcam. It requires used 3.0 speeds - and even if you plug a black usb a to usb c cable into a usb 3.0 or 3.1 jack, the picture will keep cutting out. I know this because I’ve experienced it. Yet a proper blue plug usb 3.1 to usb c cable, had no such issues. The pin out here isn’t the issue - it’s the size of the cables inside. There are cables capable of carrying 1.5Mbps and ones that carry 2.0, etc. This is due to the gauge of the wire used. Higher gauged wire, delivers different top end speeds. As for hdmi - they don’t label them as 1.4, 2.0, 2.1, etc. they are instead labeled as standard, high speed, premium speed, and ultra high speed. Each cable type has a different rated speed application, especially over runs longer than 3 feet. So anyone who sits here and pretends the cables don’t have an impact on speed doesn’t understand how cables work. As an example, USB4 exclusives uses a brand new pin out and cable structure, so older usb-a cables aren’t sufficient. It uses usb c only to maintain certain speed levels.
@@NintyPrime I watched this Linus Tech Tips Techquickie video, and according to his video (All HDMI Cables Are NOT The Same! - ruclips.net/video/Hse-noIHKcE/видео.html) HDMI cables have to be terrible quality in order to cause problems, and I can easily get flawless 4K 60 FPS video on my computer using $5.00 6 foot long Five Below HYDMI cables, and have never had problems with HDMI cables in my life! Also I have never had problems with USB cables unless they no longer work, so the only point you have that makes any sense to me is the one about USB 4.0 cables! Also analog cables are the only ones that are terrible when they are too cheap, and they have loads of interference! Digital cables are not even 1% as finicky as old school crappy quality analog cables! Those are at least 1,000 times worse to use!
I have my switch hooked up to a 43'' 4k TV and I'm overly satisfied with the image quality i use to game on a 1080p and it was good but the jump to 4k is the way but to be completely honest tho i almost let what peeps were saying about how switch is trash on a 4k tv get in my head but once i tried it I'm like the frick were they talking about this ishh beautiful on 4k especially BOTW , Luigi's mansion 3 and mario Kart 8 deluxe. Important: if you don't properly set your 4k tv with the switch that ishh gon look wack calibration is key the brand of tv is just as important.
Switch games look amazing on my 4K LG OLED when gaming far back. Games like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario Kart Deluxe 8 look insanely good. However if you play games very close up the Switch games tend to look pixelated and blurry up close. Even games on the PS5 and Series X look soft and jagged up close typically a console thing.
I don't understand why Nintendo would release the option to update the dock on old Switch models that don't support 4K upscale anyway. And why release it so soon when the so-called Switch Pro won't be out for at least another year, if ever?
I just want to know if this new dock could help the OLED Switch play BotW at 1080p at a steady 30fps. That for me would be huge. If the new dock could play DOOM, Witcher, Journey to a Savage Planet… other impossible ports at 1080p. THAT would be pretty huge to me. If it could boost existing games to 60fps, again that would be awesome! Just an option for performance and quality modes would be a big step up. Can this new dock do that at least?
No. Neither the original or updated Dock can render or improve games. The Nintendo Switch itself is what handles the task of rendering. The dock is simply a way to covert the video signal coming from the USB-C port on the bottom of the Switch to something you can connect to your TV. The new dock contains an updated converter chip that makes it possible for the Switch to output a 3840x2160 video feed at 60Hz. The previous dock allowed for up to 3840x2160 at 30Hz. Nintendo never activated 4K support though because there's little point beyond MAYBE a better upscaling algorithm than what your TV has. Switch cannot handle 4K rendering besides maybe very, very old games and videos from places like RUclips or Netflix (On a hardware level). Nintendo may never support it either - but the hardware is there for extremely limited 4K support.
If I was Nintendo, I would release a portable and a tv console both sharing the same game library and hardware, then 4k output would make sense with AI upscalling. There are some benefits of doing so, you can have cheaper, more capable hardware, meaning more people to buy your games and a increase in perceived value of your game library due to 4k res, (specially important when you are trying to sell Mario at the same price point as Cyberpunk 2077).
Uh, the Nvidia Shield uses the Tegra X1 and has AI upscaling, so it CAN do it. It’s nvidias DLSS, but didnt it come out that Nintendo are developing their own? Can you please do some tests to see if the OLED runs faster than the OG switch in Docked mode? Wondering if its overclocked at all
It is not overclocked. Same speeds. No performance improvement. And the Tegra X1's "type" of AI upscaling is pretty crappy. It's not something I would remotely imagine Switch attempting to use. It eats up a lot of processing power.
Even Nintendo can no longer use These old hdmi Ports. Remember the Switch came out After the ps4 pro , which already had the new hdmi standard. So this is just Nintendo catching up 4+ years later , as usual
FYI, all HDMI cables are *technically* the same. They're just copper wire, some insulation, and two HDMI male connectors. What you're talking about is certification. Over a short enough distance, same a six inches or a foot, likely any quality HDMI cable, regardless of branding, could carry an 8K30 or 4K60 signal. The issue is whether or not the cable is actually properly constructed, and whether it can carry the signal over the given HDMI version specifications. I know this is a little pedantic, so don't worry, you're not really wrong, I just find the subject fascinating. If you want to learn more, LTT made an awesome video on the subject after buying a ludicrously expensive cable tester: ruclips.net/video/XFbJD6RE4EY/видео.html
Sounds like a waste... I would imagine a new switch pro would come with a dock so why make current dock usable for an a new system yet to be made? It's for cloud gaming. Cloud gaming is here and Nintendo is ready .. mark my words 4k through dock on cloud games or games will upscale soon to 4k .. or we will get a switch app like playstation remote play and a new Nintendo console that will stream to switch.
Of course there's going to be a "Switch Pro" or "Switch 2". It's inevitable, and it's quite frankly hilarious how people keep denying it. The current Switch isn't going to last forever, it's not going to be the last gaming system Nintendo ever makes. It's interesting that this new dock will be able to be used by whatever that new thing is. Does that imply that the new thing will be able to be purchased without a dock for people who already have this one? Is this more for people who buy a second dock, and then buy the new hardware, and don't have to buy a second dock again? 🤔 Regardless, something is obviously coming, you'd have to be incredibly gullible to think something isn't coming, and this dock design is just more evidence of what should be painfully obvious already.
I'm a PC gamer too - and literally a pc hardware enthusiast. I know about all of this. Unless you mean some people in the comments. A lot of people do talk about 4K like they actually understand how any of this works. lol

- All I can confirm with the new included HDMI cable is that it's capable of faster transfer speeds than the old cable.
Yeah it looks fine for the most part. The biggest issue is when Nintendo doesn't use AA and the game is insanely jagged looking.
what are you smoking? botw looks horrible with those pixalated edges
@@florider_hd botw looks amazing on my 65 Oled🤷♂️
Because if it can run games in 4k, it means it almost for sure will run all games at 1080p smoothly. No more 20 fps
Me personally,a new dock that can do 4K makes more sense then doing a new system all together.
I think they need to do the actual tablet, otherwise all those games that rely on more powerful hardware to run won't function in portable mode.
It's very likely many future 3rd party games would only be possible to be ported to Switch if the internals get upgraded.
@@corey2232 They also need more memory cause 4GB in this day and age won't cut it, especially for 4K.
Ehhh well the current switch can barely run 1080p so we would need a spec bump to be able to output 4K
The switch can’t even handle 1080p half the time. You don’t even have to look at the specs to know they need an upgrade to run 4K.
I dont think that would placate their fans
100% agree. But from a business standpoint they probably didn’t want to hinder the sales of the OLED model if a future switch was going to come out
Proves nothing one way or another.
Gullible
It doesn't prove that at all. It just means it supports 4k60fps - this could be futureproofing, or even used with current models for scaling or media content. The current Switch's Dock, even the WiiU can kind of support 4k30fps
So people ask for stronger Nintendo switch and now we learned that even the new dock asks for a stronger one too.
personally if they do decide to go with a pro type device I really hope they manage to find a better name for it "Switch XL" perhaps. for the next Gen console I think they should go with "Super Nintendo Switch"
But the Switch OLED is already a "Switch XL". They would prob just called it New Switch.
I like this
@@CasepbX the name "Switch XL" was not used for the OLED which I believe was a missed opportunity, however since they chose not to use that name they could use it for a new model before the next gen console comes out. this is nintendo we're talking about though so they might just skip it and move for a next gen console that is like the switch. who knows
Why does everyone think they are going to do a switch pro?

3. also nintendo is likely already preparing for a next gen console.
You put alot of work into the channel man, it shows. Appreciate the content.

I wonder how it looks with the mclassic switch attached to it.
My dream setup. Just hoping I can get an OLED.
tbh I would like it if this future 4k switch had a 1440p option
If it can handle 4k, then it should do 1440. This is just the output resolution though and not the games internal rendering resolutions. It's meant to make it less blurry so your monitor/TV doesn't have to handle the upscaling.
For now, the switch can struggle in some games even at 1080p and 720p, also we can have stutters, all because of a very dated Tegra X1 chip

With Manufacturing and shipping issues related to the pandemic. It will be hard for everybody to get what they want this holiday season period until next year or later.
NO it's NOTHING special.. HDMI 2.0 is standard now in everything! And it's a USB C port that could do 8K if you wanted same as the OG Switch.
Will this allow the Marseille Mclassic to push the switch further?
Awesome! Thanks for the info, and Great to see you go back and confirm this :-)
What about if the game is created in 4K ? Wouldn’t the system be able to just push 4K to the tv without having to upscale after some firmware updates ? Could explain the 4K dev kits. I’m not a big tech guy so I’m just asking.
I always felt the dock would play a significant role in providing better graphics on the screen and this would make perfect sense. The OLED tablet doesn't possess enough system memory for games these days and you could forget about streaming since some places have some really crappy internet. That's why a new tablet for a new generation could be in the works. I just wished the OLED was that tablet.
I posted this on another youtuber's video the other day, and I think it's worth sharing here
"I think you may be right. I think maybe the OLED should have been the updated Switch but it got pushed back. Might explain why the dock has a chip with updatable firmware (maybe to enable 4k when the time is ready)
When you consider all the little changes to the Switch OLED, it does seem like almost an upgraded system, rather than just "we can't get the original LCD anymore so we're switching to OLED""
The only thing with this though is what would they do to differentiate a 4K Switch from a standard one?
On one hand we have people saying there is proof (and other things that point to) a 4k Switch, yet we got this weird semi update
Thing is they will just deny anything to do with a 4k Switch right now because they know it'll kill OLED sales.
That Might cause issues if you remove it from the dock mid play session but not a bad idea

The Switch won't use Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), but instead, Nintendo might use AMD's FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution)!!
@juliette Irene Yes, but Nvidia’s DLSS technology only does AI upscaling on a case-by-case basis, while AMD’s FSR does AI upscaling across all games. So Nintendo would want an AI upscaler that’ll be universal to every developer!!

Up scaling to 4k is nice, but it isn't native 4k.
You will be waiting a long time for Nintendo making a more powerful switch due to the world wide chip shortage related to the covid pandemic.
Ooh can't wait for the next switch
What about the patent about proprietary upscaling?
I have a feeling nintendo is going to try and see if cloud gaming catches on with the switch for new 3rd party games, and if that is the case wouldn't the dock need an hdmi 2.0 port in order to stream a 4k cloud game to a tv?
So can the current chip thats already in the Switch ......... what is your point ?
The X1 may be able to handle 4k, but the lower clock speed of the switchs x1 and Nintendo's SDK there is no possibility of 4k output.
So it’s still 1080?
Would the normal switch be good on my LG Oled tv?
Ahhh...well then, I should be fine waiting, as I love the OG Switch anyway.
I'm currently playing Metro Redux, and the game looks gorgeous on the Switch handheld.
even ps5 is not capable of 4k with 60fps now, and switch oled is handheld. the steam deck which is more expensive and as big as a brick is around the same performance as PS4. do people even know what are they asking?
DLSS. The machine doesn't need to be powerful if the software is optimized well enough.

I wouldn’t of thought Nintendo would be happy about PlayStation and Xbox having the capability to stream their movie and them not able to.
I'm just remember M cables.. it's can output upscalling too at 4K resolution, maybe Nintendo buying their chips for 4K upscalling coz maybe Nvidia can't provide their next Tegra with ready 4K with lower Watts
Apparently this is wrong though? It's being refuted online I don't know who to believe
And the moral of the story is: DON'T JUST COME TO CONCLUTIONS IF IT DIDN'T RELEASE YET!
That’s why they wouldn’t do that. More parts = more $
How long can you talk about a cable? To long.
Nice video. This really makes sense. It’s a very Nintendo thing to do. More and more evidence keeps saying that either they planned to release OLED all along or that a 4K was planned but was changed due to COVID issues affecting components and this was their alternative.
I’m happy with 1080p. Don’t get this fascination with 4K.
If the Tegra X1 is already capable of converting to 4K, isn’t Nintendo eventually going to make this happen given the new chips in the dock?
When you look at how games like Age of Calamity run in just 720/1080p with the current Tegra Chip, it would be very very difficult to run 4K and have it run at 30fps or more. So while technically it may be able to, in practice probably not.
No, the dock is now 4K compatible(it can transfer or output a 4K image from the console to the TV, something the normal dock can't do) with an eventual Switch 2 4K. The 4K upscale of the Tegra X1 is more suited for multimedia purposes if I recall correctly. So it may only be useful for RUclips.
With the move to alot of cloud based ports on the switch, maybe this new dock will allow 4k60 streaming of said cloud games
Help anyone : I just upgraded to the Oled model. Will I be missing out on better docked performance or fidelity by using the old switch dock and hdmi cable? Thank you 😎
Just because it's a HDMI 1.4 CABLE doesn't mean it can't be used with higher standards.
Could you exchange the memory from the regular switch. Which I upgraded to 128 to with the oled?

All HDMI cables are functionally identical just like all USB cables are, because they all use the same pin out, and all that matters is the size of the plug when it comes to compatibility! Please stop misinforming others so they get ripped off when purchasing HDMI cables! The HDMI chip that is behind the HDMI port on the circuit board is what determines the HDMI version!
Can OG switch can be used on OLED dock?
Yes
@@exterminebrio6955 thank youu
can we use Mclassic upscale. 1440p
Yes with the dock that might be a possibility
Bloody legend, thanks for investigating.
That was a better breakdown of what you have found 👍
I don't understand why Nintendo would release the option to update the dock on old Switch models that don't support 4K upscale anyway. And why release it so soon when the so-called Switch Pro won't be out for at least another year, if ever?
It’s a OS feature. And if dev units exist well…
Nvidia Shield pro with the Tegra x1 can do AI upscaling. Also it’s the same chip in the Nintendo Switch OLED.🧐
@@igcreates2760 because if it flop you can always shift chip production to your regular switch as long as it uses the same hardware.
So you want another underpowered Nintendo home console that has the graphics potential of a portable console no way.
@@igcreates2760 the thing would be 100$ cheaper and able to output consistent 1080/60 fps. At that point you may as well buy that and a switch lite.
@@NintyPrime why you gotta crush my hopes :( Damnit.
Does this mean Nintendo Will sell Switch G2/pro Boxed Version, without the docking station.Or will next generation switch have version G3.
Even Nintendo can no longer use These old hdmi Ports. Remember the Switch came out After the ps4 pro , which already had the new hdmi standard. So this is just Nintendo catching up 4+ years later , as usual
All we need to know is if it is capable of streaming 4k 60fps from the cloud.
You found the name of the component already?
Yup. It's technically custom, but the base chiplet is there.
How about amd's FSR upscaling? Can be done on old hardware even
Thanks for the video!
I feel like this was supposed to be the pro but with whats going on with the chip shortages nintendo said bump it and gave us this one
Nintendo: Changes HDMI port to 2.0 (released in 2013)
Everybody: OMG 4K at 60fps console!!!
Das Dock ist für RUclips 4K und Netflix in 4K aber nicht für Spiele
Nice vid 👍
Well I don't really think Nintendo has made the Dock 4k Ready bc of a 4k Switch. Thats just not how Nintendo works.
Regardless, something is obviously coming, you'd have to be incredibly gullible to think something isn't coming, and this dock design is just more evidence of what should be painfully obvious already.
yea don't expect a switch pro for a while yet or switch 2 i'd say another 2 years yet
What I want to know is when will they be in stock again?
Could nintendo release some type of dock only switch just like the 2ds?
That could be awesome, specially if homebrew could be applied
As usually console gamers don’t have a clue about 4K signal output, native resolutions or Teraflops.
I'm a PC gamer too - and literally a pc hardware enthusiast. I know about all of this. Unless you mean some people in the comments. A lot of people do talk about 4K like they actually understand how any of this works. lol
Start of the video I see him with the switch taken apart, and I click off the video in fear
