      Might have something to do with bad repairs that made batteries explode and the owners tried to sue the companies. Exploding batteries are a thing.

      @@webinatic216 That's a lame excuse, it's quite difficult to accidentally damage a battery to the point it combusts, plus if manufacturers were actually concerned about that, they wouldn't use this ultra strong adhesive to hold the batteries in place which is completely unnecessary since there's no space for the battery to move around in these extremely miniaturized devices anyway!
      Users accidentally bending the battery to the point of critical failure wouldn't be a concern, if they didn't have to pry it out in the first place!
      Now that I think about it: I've never heard of anyone suing a manufacturer because the battery they pried out from their device exploded. However, we all have heard of brand-new, never opened devices randomly catching fire, because of poor design...
      Tl;dr it's a bullshit excuse that manufacturers use to justify making user-repair more difficult (which in fact *increases* the safety risk) and force people to buy new & feed the landfills at an insane and unnecessary rate. Please stop spreading their excuses!

    For first time Switch owners I think the OLED is a great way to get into the world of Nintendo Switch but for people who already own a switch like myself I think it's best to skip the OLED. I was debating about whether or not to upgrade to OLED but just cant justify myself into buying it since there is very little changes between the original Switch and the new OLED switch. Also, it's weird that the OLED is $50 more than the original switch! I hope Nintendo introduces a much better updated switch in the future that would justify upgrading from the original switch to the new updated switch.

    • @rudermanphoto
      @rudermanphoto 2 года назад +18

      I upgraded from a launch switch and i have no regrets, the screen is leaps and bounds better then the OG, having them side by side the difference is staggering. The OLED is better built too, everything feels sturdier and that kickstand is so good. I was also able to sell my og switch on ebay for $370 aud (i paid $399 in 2018) which made the $539 aud price of the OLED just a $169 upgrade to get better battery performance, a stunning screen and while vain, the white joycons and dock really are rather sexy (they match my PS5 now!)

      If you have the Switch V2 and only play docked I respect your comment. If you play portable or mixed the OLED Switch is worth it. The display is incredible and bigger compared to the original as well as the far better kick stand and far smaller screen bezels. The build quality and design is a lot better as well along with the new dock and an extra 32gbs of internal storage.

    I saw a video a while ago of a guy who claimed to have figured out that the joycon drift is caused in most cases by the stick not being properly supported from the bottom, leading to the metal casing bulging and reducing the pressure on the potentiometer wipers inside. A simple fix was to add a thin piece of card stock (or similar) in between the stick and the joycon housing. Maybe all Nintendo did was make a slight change to the mold of the joycon housing, so that the plastic underneath the stick is slightly thicker?

      It's probably quite difficult--the eMMC module on each Switch has data like per-console keys that only work with the unit it came with. Swapping eMMC modules between Switches of even identical hardware revisions doesn't work, unfortunately.

    • @vappster
      @vappster 2 года назад +3

      @DoctorX17 It's not impossible, but you do need a modded Switch to extract the keys and transfer/rebuild the eMMC's contents. You can also find bigger aftermarket eMMC modules if you want an internal storage upgrade.
      Still, even tho afaik the entire process can be done without ever booting into a CFW (the keys can be dumped using a RCM payload, which is completely independent from the console's firmware, and the eMMC dump can be manipulated from a PC), I still wouldn't recommend going online with a bigger module afterwards even if you keep the firmware completely stock as the Switch's telemetry does include the eMMC's size among various other fields, potentially making it easy for Nintendo to detect that the console has been hardmodded.

    A removable / modular storage unit on the original vs the non modular memory module on the oled makes 0 difference as swapping these modules between Nintendo switch units doesn't work to begin with... Unless the units you are swapping them on are unpatched and can have various points of data dumped and transferred to another module. Same actually. And compared to my V1 switch, oh boy that thing gets loud. I replaced the thermal paste a year ago or so, and it got better. But I didn’t know about that metal place on top of the actual dye of the processor, so if I opened that and replaced the thermal paste there, I think it would be even better

      @@gus_bz I have a V2 as well. My little sister plays a lot of splatoon, which I guess is a very graphic intensive game, and I noticed the fan on my V1 was so loud when playing docked. Handheld wasn’t too noticeable. The V2 was significantly quieter, you couldn’t really hear it. After changing the thermal paste on my V1, it was significantly less loud, but I think it’s still a little louder than the V2. Like my other comment said, I think I need to redo it. I might’ve also put too much paste lol

    Great teardown! Anything obvious in there that necessitates the extra 3mm width? Think they could have just squeezed a bit more?

    • @iFixitYourself
      @iFixitYourself  2 года назад +1

      My guess is the extra 3mm comes from a combination of making room for the bigger screen, and making room for the new kickstand hinges! They definitely could have squeezed more, but adding 3mm let them keep using the same battery and not totally re-design the cooling system. -TD

    So I've come across an issue with the rails of the Nintendo switch oled. some disinfectant sanitizer got onto my joy-con and left side rails of the Nintendo switch OLED, and now is very finicky with connection. I took apart the switch to wipe down with unfortunately I only had 91%. Isopropyl alcohol, and it works better but still with light movements it will disconnect or reconnect.
    My question is is it possible to reuse the original switches left side rail module or rail and total to replace the left side Nintendo switch OLED rail?

    So does the OLED still suffer from certain issues (especially with V2) such as cracks developing near screws, bending from heat when docked (believe it's been confirmed as a myth?), rail issues, fan issues, scratching when docked, and such? If the build quality is better and prone to less issues then that makes 350 and a cheap OLED Samsung screen a bit better to swallow.

    I don’t own a switch but I’d love to buy Nintendo switch OLED. From an engineering standpoint, I’m really happy that Nintendo has made a somewhat repairable console. If there were to be fourth version of the Switch, i’d like to see the battery not glued down. I’d also like to a removable SSD like the Microsoft Surface. 256GB M.2 NVME 2230 should be enough.
