An unclear or shifting sense of self is a problem faced by a lot of people with BPD, but it's not something that people without BPD ever think about. We're running on manual with our personality, and that means we sometimes make some wrong choices.

You kind of helped me coming out of my Romantic Obsession. And I'm still working on it. Thankyou.

I think the word for a lot of what you’re describing is “profilicity” - a sense of self based around how you are perceived by others. This is increasingly how we build our sense of self in the digital era.
Before profilicity, there was more of a focus on authenticity, which is essentially finding an internal sense of self and being true to that. Before authenticity became the way people predominately defined themselves, people defined themselves through sincerity, a sense of self based around your social roles and relations to others (how good of a mother/son/tradesman/etc you were). Since you seem to like the philosophical side of things, you might find those things interesting to look up and read more about.
Also, I don’t think questioning the “what” of who you are is anything new at all - we wouldn’t have all the records of trans people existing throughout human history if it was anything new. And grappling with those specific parts of your identity doesn’t stop you from being a fully fledged human being with your own unique interests and aspirations.
Also also, while I don’t think this was your intention, it almost seemed as though you were pathologizing any amount of questioning yourself. You said at one point that normal people don’t think about this stuff at all, but I would argue that a person who has never questioned themself isn’t someone who has much capacity for growth. I think asking yourself “who am I?” at some point in your life is just part of being a person. There definitely are times where people become so fixated on their identities that it seriously hinders them, and that definitely is an issue for those with cluster b disorders. I’m not denying that at all, and I also don’t think any of those statements negate each other. I guess it’s one of those dialectical, “both/and” sort of things.
I still liked the episode and I always think you have an interesting perspective :)
