For a little context from the beginning, in case there's still confusion, the reason that monarch had Kong in containment was because Skull Island was being ravaged by a massive powerful storm left over from Ghidorah's reign. Monarch was originally on the island to monitor Kong and to learn more about hollow earth, and possible entrances.

I've always assumed that the head in this film was the left one that Godzilla ripped off in KoTM, and which Jonah bought at the end. The left was the one that regrew and was kind of the nasty one.
But the rest of the heads were all burned away, so I didn't really get, why two heads were even mentioned in this movie.

51:39 They used alcohol to short out Mechagodzilla. Mechagodzilla is controlled by the brain of Ghidorah. And who was Ghidorah originally based of on? Yamata no Orochi, the eight-headed dragon in Japanese mythology who was defeated by getting it drunk on wine!
Kinda an obscure reference but it comes full circle quite nicely.

Fun facts: There was a 5 hour cut of this movie, but most of it was discarded, which probably feels strange at some points. The novel explains it a lot better, giving the characters more background and general info. For example, the pilot of MechaGodzilla, Ren Serizawa, is Doctor Serizawa’s son who wanted revenge against Godzilla because he felt his father loved Godzilla more than him.
Godzilla struggled a lot against MechaGodzilla because he had spent at least half of his energy, and his fight with Kong lasted 8 hours. The director stated that the fight would be closer if Godzilla was fresh.

    • @alexanderstavroulakis335
      @alexanderstavroulakis335 3 месяца назад +8

The reason why Kong gained lightning powers at the end of that movie was because originally it was going to be an American film called "Frankenstein VS King Kong", where Kong would battle a giant Frankenstein's Monster made from body parts of large animals.
A script was made, however no studio in the U.S. was interested in making it into a movie. When Toho, the company that made Godzilla, saw the script, they instead purchased the rights to King Kong and made the 1962 film "King Kong VS Godzilla".
Supposedly Kong's lightning powers where a holdover from Frankenstein, who's usually the one depicted as being powered up by electricity/lightning.

The story was changed completely halfway through filming if not even near the end.
The Mech Pilot is Serizawa's son Ren and he had a bigger role, as did Monarch in the initial version that was nearly filmed and completed before major changes were done in the editing booth.
A lot of the human story was left on the cutting room floor in scenes that would have stitched what was left together more coherently.
There was at the very least twenty minutes of footage cut out of the film we did get.
This is the shortest movie in the franchise, and it wasn't 2014 that spooked them but instead KoTM (KoTM did the least box office) which the studio felt underperformed, thus causing them to make a movie that was shorter and big on the action that could get more screenings per day and bring in more dollars.

Love the video. In light of the Mecha reveal Godzilla's actions are perfectly in line with his Monsterverse attitude. We might say "hey he's hurting innocents" but he's not concerned about that.
In 2014 He casually walks through & destroys a large bridge loaded with people, Sure he dodges the carrier earlier but not the destroyers behind it, He didn't dodge the ships when he stood up near the bridge. And even if he walked through the bridge because he was getting shot, my man needed to get on the other side of it anyway! And he stood up not near the shoreline but at in the water near ships. He was clearly going to go through the bridge. He either didn't know it was there when standing up or knew & planned to go through anyway. We see via King's flashbacks innocent people died due to him in his fight with the MUTO's. He's not concerned with individual human life. If he cares about us at all it's as a greater whole. There's other examples of him attacking humans in the expanded lore. Pirates & military alike. But to say it's inconsistent for Godzilla to kill when he senses a threat is misguided.
As far as his actions towards Kong,. First things first, the G-Man is old, like OLD OLD, 252 MILLION with a M years old matter fact. Kong was born in 1933 in the MonsterVerse. So he's a damn BABY by comparison to Godzilla. Godzilla is so old he remembers the old Titan ruled earth. He remembers the wars between his species & the Kong's. He lived in the time of Dagon (another member of G's race who we saw as a skeleton in 2014) & likely remembers Dagon. To him, Kong is nothing more than a little child. One who's been sheltered on Skull Island & needs to learn the pecking order. Godzilla is the head of the monsters. Hell, G's second movie is literally titled King of The Monsters. It's completely within character that Godzilla would want Kong to obey the chain of command.
In that expanded lore i mentioned (which i don't expect y'all to read from, it is fun though) we see that after the events of KoTM Godzilla orders ALL Titans to go back to sleep. And goes on an ass whooping tour against all that disobey. He asserts command over all the Titans. Who are ALL way older than Kong. Literally EVERY Titan seen in KoTM is millions of years old. Behemoth (The giant Mammoth looking Titan) was seen in Godzilla's flashbacks of the old earth millions of years ago in the comics. Kong & even the Skullcrawlers are young as shit by comparison to these older Titans. And all the surviving Old ones now generally obey Godzilla after the death of King Ghidorah. So again, makes total since that Godzilla would force Kong to obey his authority.
Now where I do agree is the human side of things. My thoughts have always been that if Millie's character was paired with her dad instead of a random friend it would've been better. Have the Dad lead Monarch & work with his Daughter to figure out what's wrong with Godzilla. We already know his character & he learned to accept Godzilla in the end so it'd make since for him to try investigating things too. I never liked how little he was in this movie. Remove the entire friend character, connect the Dad & daughter & have Brian Tyree Henry's character join them to figure things out. Or cut him out too either way.
On the kong side make the daughter of the villain either more commanding & threatening or make her a double agent, make her seem nice & supportive so the audience likes her then bam hit us with the villain reveal. Give Ren Serizawa more screen time he's the damn son of Ken Watanabe's character & we barely get to meet him. Other than those things I liked the humans.
As others pointed out the Studio cut like 23 minutes of footage that could've beefed the plot a bit. Wish we got a directors cut or something.
Fucking GREAT reaction guys!!! I hope y'all watch the Skull Island animated show & then the Monarch TV show!!!!! Both were fun to me, the Monarch show being GREAT. So hyped for New Empire. I'm sad that only 3 characters return all 3 of which were introduced in this movie. That kind of sucks. But still looking forward the the Skar King & all that he entails.

Love reading comments like this! Thanks for sharing some insight on some of the lore that is present in the novels that tie in with these films. A lot of our comments towards Godzilla and how he was depicted in a strange manner were misguided once the film reveals the why. It’s like oh…ok yeah they brought your biggest foe yet back to life unknowingly and finally succeeded in doing so when they brought energy from hollow earth. No wonder he’s pissed!
Also I’m curious to see what the dynamic is gonna be with Godzilla and Kong moving forward. Is this a strong alliance now or one that could go either way any second? We would’ve loved to see those 23 min they cut. Had no idea that was Serizawa! And that is a huge detail to not linger on for a bit.
Thank you so much for watching! We hope GxK is amazing and continues to satisfy the fan base 😄

@@OfficialMediaKnights Guys... Godzilla isn't the villain. I really wished you guys didn't just call him that because you literally watched two movies where he's the protagonist. You even picked up on the fact that he was being purposefully agitated but you guys STILL called him a bad guy?

@FrostbiteDigital I think saying he's coming across as the "Bad guy" is totally acceptable without the context that he's irritated by something else out there. We did say he was acting more like a bad guy and also were the first to say wait...there has to be a reason for it. After seeing Godzilla become so aggressive only when there was a huge imbalance we were trying to figure out why that APEX base was the culprit. Obviously they leave that key information until the third act. Whoever doesn't know the piece key of information that Apex had kept Ghidora's head and was building Mechagodzilla would be under the same assumptions asking the same relevant questions. Why is he behaving this way? Why would he do such a thing when he's known for this instead etc.

@@OfficialMediaKnights Alright you know what? You're right, you did end up acknowledging that. I do apologize if I came off rather stingy or abrasive. It's just, I've seen so many reactors that jump on that bandwagon of "godzilla is the bad guy" even AFTER it was revealed why he was angry. Even worse is that I've seen posts on Reddit and etc. saying that Godzilla's behaviour in this film has always been his persona which I'm sure you know just as well as I do that isn't true. It's like people have forgotten that he was benevolent in 2014 and KOTM for some reason. I don't know about how you guys feel about this but it's doing my head in. I know Kong is super awesome and all but I feel like people were way to eager to drop Godzilla as a heroic character despite the past two Godzilla entries were he was exactly that, especially with the new GxK trailers.
I just wish people knew that Godzilla is still a benevolent Titan like he was in the previous films. It's really our fault for antagonizing him and making him angry.

And Gojira 1954 and Godzilla raids again had no idea they were going to land King Kong rights. It was secured because there wasn't any confidence in continuing the Godzilla franchise before that. The problem my friend said to me after we watched this movie the first time was that Kong had a character, but Godzilla was a plot device. Godzilla became this one-dimensional thing that ran around fighting and looking cool when we had two movies where it was clear he had motivations, intentions and a personality. He is stoic, sure, but he has feelings and thoughts much as Kong does. But for the sake of the movie to happen the filmmaker, Wingard, and the soundtrack decide to try and force this 'evil' theme onto Godzilla when we all know, the audience knows, you all saw it too, that's BS and contradicts his whole character. Thus it makes any action taken by Godzilla viewed as bad by the people to seem redundant because we the audience know he's acting out of character because of something in-universe.
As well, the human characters were tonally all over the place. I am one of those people who will genuinely debate someone in good faith that KOTM had good monster action and more than fine/competent human drama and acting. People act like GvK was a step up but it's blinders from the fighting which is more held on (though less weighted in my opinion) than movies before. MBB, or Madison had any character stripped from her. Bernie was a very unnecessary character, Josh, her friend, literally had no reason to exist in the movie as we got it. Mark Russel was WHOLLY wasted. Literally a cut-away caricature of his character from the last movie.
Kong's team had the most depth, but even that was surface level. In fact Jia was the most personable of them all and it's because she has a more personal relationship to Kong.
I am still looking forward to GxK, and I do hope WIngard...learned from his past mistakes. But, I just don't hold him in high regard. He did make the 2016 Blair Witch and live action Death Note so...yeah. Lol. GvK is the least liked of all the Monsterverse for me. I STILL really do enjoy the movie, but I will watch KOTM any time, GvK when the occasion calls for it.

Wrong, the director said in interview to IGN that Godzilla started taking the fight seriously when he saw the axe, the novel of GvK said that Godzilla intended to cut Kong in half with the atomic breath.

    • @Bound662
      @Bound662 3 месяца назад +4

@@pedropaulocarvalho4554 That's literally what I said, but explained with other words 🗿
At the beginning Godzilla just limited himself to kill Kong with his atomic breath (he was even laughing when he hit Kong, he's playing with him), but the director said that when Godzilla was directly hit in the face with the axe, he began to hunt Kong, searching for him until Kong attacked him from behind, when Godzilla got serious and dislocated his shoulder, bit him, scratched his chest and stomped his chest... All that in matter of seconds, he literally finished the fight as fast as possible.

If you notice in the final fight mechagodzilla was only focus on killing godzilla as revenge for what he did to him in KOTM and didn't really mind kong until he continued to intervene up until MECHAGODZILLA got fed up with him so only then he attempted to kill kong first then finish of godzilla.

2 fun facts. first one: in the 1st part of the hong kong battle, godzilla wasnt really trying against kong he was just toying with him untill kong slammed the axe on his face then he got pissed and actually went full force on kong
2nd one: Mechagodzilla isnt stronger than godzilla, godzilla was just exhausted from fighting kong and was too tired to fight against mechagodzilla, if godzilla and kong didnt fight, the battle between godzilla and mechagodzilla would've been way different.

In the words of our Lord and Savior, Serizawa: Let then Fight.
This movie had a lot left on the cutting room floor, unfortunately.
For example, Ren Serizawa is Dr. Serizawa's son and blames Godzilla for his father's death, which is why he helped build the Mecha in the first place.
There was also a cut plotline that had the Mecha have a second ORCA built into it.
Also, a little tidbit, the Novelization seemed to imply that Ren was possessed by Ghidorah instead of being killed.
EDIT: So Depth Charges are a weapon commonly deployed against Submarines. The Shockwave alone is enough to damage a submarine's hull.
The logic with using them against Godzilla was that they would probably cause enough disruption to Godzilla's senses to confuse him and make him let Kong go.

By the time Godzilla was fighting mecha-godzilla he was exhausted from searching the world destroying Apex and fighting Kong. He was halfway exhausted by the time he started fighting the machine, but as an alpha he always fought and saw the machine as a Ghidorah related threat. Kong, sensing what Godzilla did, and knowing Godzilla could've killed him but didn't and knew Godzilla probably only fought him because of the Ghidorah machine, knew that helping Godzilla was the right move short and long term. Kong wanted the hollow earth and he knew Godzilla would leave him be there. There's a lot of lore in comic books and books to fill in the blanks the movies aren't able to. Good reaction tho, a good genre to get into. Tons of movies to still watch and new movies still coming out. Godzilla the King of the Monsters, Kong the King of the Hollow Earth. A good truce of old enemies. Hard to know all the "inside baseball" without following all of the extra lore and media associated with it.

The general consensus after the movie was that Godzilla knows(through some vibrations) that the villains are using Ghidorah's head to make MechaGodzilla. This is why Godzilla openly attacked Pensacola as it was one of the locations owned by this company building MechaGodzilla. It is said that Godzilla was trying to find the root problem, but Kong on the other hand didn't get the full picture. Godzilla had to deal with Kong, as he was merely waiting for his actual showdown.

The fighting scenes are what happened in the ORIGINAL Kong vs. Godzilla back when I was small the only thing is that within that ORIGINAL Kong Whips Godzilla's Behind which they changed for this movie.
Like him sticking the tree in his mouth and them transporting Kong over the ocean and them fighting on the ocean.

The 2014 film was so artistic and made you feel like you were there, but lacked a bit of the monster fun. KOTM brought a surplus of monster fighting, but it lacked a bit of the scale and heart from 2014.
In this one they do a pretty great job of finding their groove between the emotion and fighting. That shot of Kong beating his chest while holding the mechagodzilla head is alone worth a theater ticket and I found myself cheering.
I’m one of the weirdos that still holds the 2014 movie in highest regard but this one is a good time.

When Kong was being airlifted by those choppers, and that part where he shoves something into Godzilla's mouth, I think those were references to the original movie by Toho. There, Kong was airlifted using large balloons, but there were helicopters, too. Also, there was a scene in that movie where Kong shoves a whole tree into Godzilla's mouth to keep him from firing his atomic blast.

the axe Kong has is made of one of Gojira species' spikes, i.e, it belongs to Godzilla's Kin. It was ripped from the back of one of the Gojira by the Kong's species during the Great Titan war, in which all of Gojira species got extince expect Godzilla. It is said that the Ghidorah came from Venus, which made the Earth's titan unite against him, and then Shimo, the first titan and others fought with him and froze him in Antarctica, but after events unfold which caused the ice age on earth. And, since Gojira species were protectors of Nature, they fought against Shimo, and in this fight maybe Kong species joined him, and banished Shimo to Hollow Earth. But, Kong species has already seen the power of Godzilla spikes, then, something caused war between Gojira and Kong and his species killed Gojira and used their spikes as weapon against them. This is called the Great Titan war, which limited the number of Kong species, and wiped out Gojira
