Hey I really enjoyed your reaction, the first video I watched you guys was the one you're were reacting to " The last of us " and since then I couldn't stop watching your videos, I would like to suggest you guys react to a horror series called " From" cause I know you guys love horror movies, trust me the show is probably thee best horror series ever in my opinion. My fan theory: Shadow function was abandoned / discontinued because it requires user to move and use more energy and people just want to push buttons like video games
I bet the sport experienced some waning interest so they started trending away from bots that fought like humans, and more towards bots that moved with more than human flexibility making for a more dynamic presentation. I'm sure someone built a bot with 3 arms and they were like okay, let's implement some restrictions at least.
With a few upgrades Atom could become the very best! It’s only missing a little bit of power. It has the speed and endurance already! A sequel to this would’ve been so cool.

I love that scene in the final fight where Max is watching Charlie shadowbox with tears in his eyes. Remember during their argument Charlie asks Max, "What do you want from me"? Max replied, "I want you to fight for me. That's all I've ever wanted". In that end fight, Max got what he wanted more than anything else, he got to watch his father FIGHT FOR HIM. That scene chokes me up every time!!
I always thought he meant he wanted him to fight for him in the sense that he wanted him to fight off his own inner demons and be the father he's supposed to be.
I'm actually glad it doesn't have a sequel. I'm not really sure where they could go from here that is meaningful and not just fan service. I think the movie had a message to tell and it told it beautifully from start to finish. No sequel required.
@@ultmotive personally would want more of the Real Steel universe. Doesn't need to be Charlie, Max, and Atom's journey again, just someone in the RS world living. Maybe the new Protag gets inspired by the people's champ. Plus, would be cool to see an upgraded Zeus and Atom, maybe side by side, in the hall of fame.
He’ll get it after Deadpool vs Wolverine makes a lot of money. It’ll probably be his fourth film working with Ryan Reynolds as he’s said that he wanted him in a film.
There’s many feel good films WAYY better than this…this film has many plot holes, it’s just a passable film, nothing else. Watch Spiderverse films, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Little Miss Sunshine, CODA, The Worst Person in the World, The French Dispatch, Barbie, Bullet Train, Dungeon and Dragons, Moonrise Kingdom, Paddington 1-2, etc… And TV show Ted Lasso, Abbott Elementary, Fleabag, Shrinking, etc..
@RandomShart Well, about that genre, there is a massive decrease in the number of those films because a lot of movies like that didn't have a good plot, and back then it worked, but these days a lot of studios just want sequels, remakes, and projects that they know they can get money for, so making a campy original family film isn't appealing to studios. I am a filmmaker and screenwriter student, and I watch so many films a year; depending on the year, I watch over 150 movies, and I can't even think of one recently in that category…maybe Barbie and Wonka? Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish are incredible; Luca is good; the Ninja Turtle animated film was passable; and Super Mario animated film, but that one for me was highly overrated; other than the animation, I didn't think any other aspect was great. Kung Fu Panda 4? But same thing, not a great film; Megamind 2 is atrocious... I don't know.

He just says he misses these kind of movies, he didn't say this is like the greatest movie ever, you didn't have to flaunt all over the place with your own movie taste and standard. Can't you just agree that it was a feel-good movie?? It's as simple as that. Nobody's saying this is a 10/10.
This movie is a love letter to boxing in every single way possible. There's that moment in the final round when Bailey looks at Max as if to say, "Now you understand. This is why he was beautiful in the ring." And you can see the two of them make eye contact, not holding back any tears. It's a beautiful resolution to the film. It doesn't excuse Charlie's behavior or condone it, but it DOES finally show the side of him that he had repressed for so long. This is where he belongs, and he is holding back nothing.
Yeah, it's a beautiful movie, and what personally inspired me to start Nowadays, I still watch it, in terms of the quality and rules of boxing, it's awful (bad form, illegal maneuvers, the works), but that doesn't take away from the charm
@@AdderTude Agreed. Zeus is pretty much the unbeatable killing machine that Drago seemed to be in Rocky IV, and the final fight kind of ends like in the first Rocky movie.
for a movie that appears to just be big metal machines slugging it out on the surface, Real Steel is genuinely one of the most well written stories of acceptance and personal growth i've seen in a long time. just an incredible story, soundtrack, special effects, and oh my gods each and every actor KILLED it playing their parts to perfection. 10/10 from me, absolutely zero complaints
For real! CGI from ~10 years ago is sometimes better than CGI today because they didn’t rely on it for every scene and actually still used practical effects for shots.
It's really cool to see how this movie was made, it's a lot less cgi then you think, they actually Had life size versions of a lot of the robots for reference and for scenes, ex the ambush truck scene and the atom table scene were both shot with only practical effects and life size robots
Seeing the shot of a son watch his father do something he loves actually makes me cry each time. Every single time. Usually it’s the fathers watching their sons go do something they love. Something like this was so wonderful to see … just makes your heart grow. Every day I see my parents getting older, and any time you see them doing something they enjoyed when young, almost seeing them when they were young - something we don’t think on often, our parents were once people with dreams and ambitions before us, being young and making dumb mistakes… just makes me cry eachhhh dang time. Portrayed very well.

It's a great father and son story! Based on Richard Matheson's Short story of the same name, where in 1974, a boxing promoter and his buddy try to make their robot boxer the next champion after human boxing is outlawed. They turned the story into an episode of The Twilight Zone in 1963 starring Lee Marvin.

Arguably the first zombie movie and terrifying for many reasons. Especially for it's time. Then Omega Man came with Charlton Heston and ultimately Will Smith. Richard Matheson did more in Hollywood than anyone knows.
Fun Facts: 1. The three kids asking about Ambush at the start of the film are Shawn Levy's children. In fact, two of them make a guest appearance in "Free Guy", another Shawn Levy film (they're the girls who are seen performing the bank robbery mission, with one of them saying, "Waste that mother-"). Hugh Jackson also provide a guest appearance in that film was the voice of the guy who gives Molotov Girl information about the video clip with information she's looking for. 2. The film is loosely adapted from a short story called Steel by Richard Matheson (best known for his novels Somewhere in Time and I Am Legend, as well as several short stories that were adapted into iconic episodes of The Twilight Zone, such as Little Girl Lost. Steel was also adapted into a TZ episode). The location for Bailey's boxing training facility is in Detroit, as was the Crash Palace. The shooting location for Crash Palace was a former automotive factory. 6. The truck Charlie drives and moves his fighting bots around in is a 1960 International Sightliner. 7. This movie has many actors from Marvel films (MCU and non-MCU). Anthony Mackie, Evangeline Lilly, and Dakota Goyo have played Falcon/Sam Wilson, the Wasp/Hope, and young Thor, respectively in the MCU. Hugh Jackman played Wolverine/Logan in the Marvel-based X-Men series. Kevin Durand played the blob in the Wolverine movie. And Hope Davis, who plays the aunt, plays Tony Stark's mom. 8. Charlie Kenton's idea to wear down Zeus's power supply by allowing him to repeatedly land blows on Atom was in fact a technique used by real life professional boxer Muhammad Ali. Nicknamed the 'rope-a-dope', Ali utilized the strategy to tire fellow boxer George Foreman, a much stronger opponent than himself, and eventually gain victory. Ali famously angered Foreman with phrases such as "Is that all you got, George?" during the fight, mirrored in the film by Kenton's taunting hand gesture. 9. Kingpin, the bombastic promoter at The Zoo and Metro's controller, is played by the screenwriter of the film John Gatins. After this film, he worked again with Robert Zemeckis (who was one of the producers of this film along with Spielberg) on the 2012 film Flight with Denzel Washington. 10. In a nod to the source story, the first fight with Noisy Boy was much like the fight in the book. Both were matches where the main character had to haggle his way in, both lost early, and neither got the money they thought they were going to get. 11. In the scene where Atom is activated for the first time, director Shawn Levy told Atom's puppeteer to mirror everything that Dakota Goyo did, without telling Dakota. The look of wonder on Max's face as he sees Atom sitting up, looking at him, and moving with him is genuine. 12. Charlie and Ricky's history is that they were both fighters, with Ricky beating Charlie in the ring. 13. Since the film's release, the rise in reported cases of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE, aka Boxer's Dementia) in both boxing and other extreme/contact sports and the debilitating effects it leads to means that film's premise of human boxing being banned in the near future out of concern for the health and safety of the participants may not be so far fetched. 14. Max uses Atom's Shadow function to make him dance before fights. Many boxers and other athletes take dance and ballet classes in their off time because it helps with their speed, agility, and concentration. By teaching him how to dance Max also contributes to one of Atom's greatest strengths, his speed and maneuverability due to his small size. 15. The motel that Charlie and Max stay at after the fight at the Zoo, where Charlie is seen beginning to train Atom, was the same motel used for the location of the horror thriller Vacancy (2007).
I saw this movie when it first came out, laughed hard at Charlie not wanting to be a dad and all that. 13 years later, with a kid who is nearly 2 years now, I started crying instead at moments in the film. Kids deserve their parents. Both of them.
My dad left when I was 18 months. Now I have 4 kids of my own. I couldn't imagine being without them. Thank you for being a great dad and being there for your kiddo.
These bags aren't really made out of paper, they just look that way. These are silent props, they look like paper, but don't make a rustling sound, so the sound guys can record clear dialogue, all the paper sounds are than later added by foley artist. Movies are weird like that 😁 So the bag Jackman was chewing was actually made of textile, not paper.
You know what I love about your videos, except for your reactions? Everytime you react to a movie that I don't know yet I watch the movie first and then your reaction. I've watched this so many times lol. One thing that is realistic is the ending of the Zues fight. As the champion if a fight goes to the judges 99% of the time the champion retains the title. Good underdog, redemption, love story.
I'm no boxing expert, but in this case I think it would have been a fair call by the judges. Zeus was controlling most of the fight. Atom only had that last round where he really dominated.
This is such an underrated movie, I watched it with my son and I fell in love with it, seen it 100 times. Makes me tear up every time, great great movie, glad y'all enjoyed it
When you look at the cover of Real Steel, you don't think much of it, but when you watch it to the very end, it certainly has a lot going on that keeps you both entertained and rooting for the kid and his father as the relationship between them continues to grow.
This is the only movie that is guaranteed to make me cry at the end every time. Saw this in theaters on a whim cause it was the only movie interesting enough at that time. It was the best surprise I could hope for.
Would love to see y’all react to a movie called “warrior “ would be an amazing watch( fighting mma related ) with Tom hardy as one of the main stars after watching this, extremely underrated and not a lot of people have reacted to it yet
I watched this movie a few months before my dad passed away. It's not the all time greatest movie we've ever watched together, but it has become the most meaningful; both then and especially now. It reminds me of all the times we spent together while I was growing up. Spending every weekend fishing from the crack of dawn til noon even though neither of us were any good at it. I didn't understand it at the time, but my dad did. It was never really about the fishing, it was about sharing the time we had that we sometimes take for granted. Thanks for reacting to this one, it holds a special place in my heart.
Another case for why Levy is the perfect director for Deadpool 3. He's had movies with Ryan and Hugh and is finally getting his credit for how good of a director he is and has been slept on for quite awhile until Stranger Things blew up.
After the Zeus fight, when they were interviewing the girl (I cannot remember her name) even though what she saying is that Zeus is still the champ, you can tell by her body language and her eyes that she is NERVOUS because there has NEVER been a bot that could last one round with Zeus, let alone get a hit on him. And Atom and Charlie SHOVED that down her throat by being incredibly resilient and pounding the hell out of Zeus. And I LOVE that!!
I love movies like Real Steel. On the surface, they sound like a silly idea. A movie in which robots punch each other. But then they manage to add this emotional layer to the silliness and it just hits you right in the feels.

I didn't know if you guys knew this, but the actress that's with Hugh Jackman in the movie is the wasp from Ant-Man and the wasp in Ant-Man 3. I didn't know if you guys knew that or not. I remember kinda avoiding this film at first because these type of movies are usually just heavy action and fancy special effects with very little focus on character and story but ended up just watching it one day randomly and I LOVED IT
I think a lot of people passed on this movie when it came out because they thought it was just a “boxing” film, and didn’t go any further than that, but they missed a really good time.
My headcanon is that they start acting as a sort of sponsor for Max's robot boxing carrier. We are getting a TV show for real steel and I hope max at least has a cameo as a professional robot boxer, maybe he's the champ, maybe he's the protagonist even
Very underrrated movie. I felt many didnt give it a shot thinking it was just some robot rock'em sock'em movie, but it's a really good film. Once people see it they're pleasantly surprised by how good it is.
The cinematography in this film is amazing. The shot with the distance between them when they meet, the open shots getting to the fair. I loved it. Also, we have Wolverine Falcon, The blob, Tony Stark's mom, and the wasp in this file (did I miss anyone?)
Real Steel is such an underrated movie, sure the robot theme might be kinda corny to some but I think core of the movie is the amount of heart it got. The character development and the redemption of Charlie making things right with Max...damn I dunno what to say except that it was so damn hearth warming.
It is a testament to Hugh Jackman's charm/charisma/magnetism/ability-to-act-his-ass-off that he is able to take on the role of a real asshole like Charlie Kenton and actually make us care about him. Props should be given to young Dakota Goyo as Max as well, because he makes the bond between father and son believable.
Went watch this at the CMX in Tampa opening night with the wife. It was on the double sized screen with a 4k laser projector, with subs firing up through the love seat we were sitting on. Our whole bodies shook every time there was a hard hit. Hands down the best theater experience in my whole life. The combination of comfort, full visual and audio immersion that sucks you in, and gripping heart felt story haven't been beat yet. Sadly we had to move for my next duty assignment and so we never got to watch another movie there.
I’ve said this when I was 6 and will say it again. Not only such an underrated gem of a movie, but imo the best movie that have ever been made. Action, character development, heartwarming scenes, great story, badass and completely unexpected from what people thought this movie would be. Again, absolute gem.
The truck is a 1960 IH Sightliner. The IH Sightliner was made from 1957 to 1962. Drivers would cover up the lower windows to avoid glare from the lights of oncoming vehicles.
This was such a sleeper favorite for me. I had NO IDEA it was this awesome. It’s now one of my stop down, if it’s on a channel when I’m channel surfing I’ll watch it til the end movies. Are you kidding me with those eyes?!?
This movie has HEART! I remember everyone cheering during the Zeus fight and boos are thrown around when Atom loses in my theater back when it first shown in theaters!

I'm so glad I found your channel when I was looking for Godzilla Minus One reactions. Since then, I've been HOOKED and have been making my way towards your library. A lot of the fight scenes are almost shot for shot remakes of Rocky scenes. From rope-a-doping and taunting Clubber Lang, to Apollo almost escaping the corner and getting thrown back in, to getting beaten up by Drago all round until landing that one big first punch.
This is one of those movies that slipped under the radar when it came out, but I have loved it since the first moment I saw it. It has some very unexpected moments in it. So much fun, so very touching, and just an amazing story. One of my absolute favorites! Also, I totally want robot boxing to be a thing. Lol.
man its been a minute since I've seen this. Its such an underrated movie these days. It would be so cool to see this kind of thing done like this irl. There used to be one called Robot Combat League, but the robots were more like giant rockem sockems. Still cool as hell though. Anyway this is a hell of a movie. I love how even though we know Hugh as Wolverine, he can still make us believe we are watching a character that *isn't* Wolverine. Evangeline Lilly is great in this too, as is the kid, who reminds me of the kid from Iron Man 3 (i know its not) but yeah, he's really good. definite cult classic that i can't believe is 13 years old already!
Fun fact! In a scene that was ultimately cut from the movie and never filmed, they were gonna add during the final fight a scene after Atom's voice recognition is damaged in the 4th Round, Charlie tries to convince Max to throw in the towel however when they look at Atom, it would show a close-up of his fist with him index finger extending telling Max and Charlie to let him fight one more round proving that Atom indeed can understand both Max and Charlie throughout the entire movie. It would've been cool in my opinion if that actually made it in the movie, but I'm pretty satisfied with the final film as is. Pretty cool eh?

This movie has so much heart and i swear when hes like screaming on the mic callin zues out man that shit makes me laugh every time hahah! Like you said, to many dr peppers hahaha and hes like blowing out the mic, its even more hilarious ahhhh damn. Glad yall enjyoed this, and for composers, i usually think of Thomas Newman as well. Ohhhh!!! Just thought of it, Elfman does the score for a movie called "Wanted." With Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman! excellent movie!!
They filmed part of this film near where I worked (fairgrounds and courthouse scene) down the road from where I worked in Mason, Michigan. It's a small town, so it was a big deal and the extras from the area had a wonderful time. Hugh rode the ferris wheel with some of the kids between takes.
I've watched it so many times and it's something i never get tired of rewatching. I was crazy about it for a time too. there's a real steel android game that i played all day for months

“Left! Right! Left! Right! A HUUUUGE uppercut by Atom! zeus is DOWN!” That moment gave me chills. Atom was absolutely the better fighter in that ring. No bot could get past zeus within 1 round and Atom took him to the 5th and final round, knocked him down and won the crowd. *Legendary* Max’s Mum was absolutely watching and would be proud of him and Charlie

So glaad you got to this movie. I think this is an often overlooked film. People were it because they thought it a lame rockem sock em robot movie, which was the rumor when it first came out. But it turned out to be so much more. Great characters. Great world-building. And it is really a good classic boxing movie wrapped in future tech. Love this movie.
I loved Real Steel, but did nobody realize it's just "Over the Top" with robots. A movie I also liked. They did make the Hugh Jackman character a MUCH lower moral character than the Sylvester Stallon father.

It also probably faded out due to a lack of actual boxers to puppeteer the robot as robots took over.
Well you also gotta think, the kind of people to get robot fighting started and made main stream arnt the kind to be actual boxers realistically.
Shadow function was there to probably mimic and unders opponent's fighting styles and like Zeus has that feature but software and faster.
People forget that Atom is originally a sparring robot, it is literally built to take punches without too much damage.

I'm actually glad it doesn't have a sequel. I'm not really sure where they could go from here that is meaningful and not just fan service. I think the movie had a message to tell and it told it beautifully from start to finish. No sequel required.

There’s many feel good films WAYY better than this…this film has many plot holes, it’s just a passable film, nothing else. Watch Spiderverse films, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Little Miss Sunshine, CODA, The Worst Person in the World, The French Dispatch, Barbie, Bullet Train, Dungeon and Dragons, Moonrise Kingdom, Paddington 1-2, etc…
And TV show Ted Lasso, Abbott Elementary, Fleabag, Shrinking, etc..
@RandomShart Well, about that genre, there is a massive decrease in the number of those films because a lot of movies like that didn't have a good plot, and back then it worked, but these days a lot of studios just want sequels, remakes, and projects that they know they can get money for, so making a campy original family film isn't appealing to studios.
I am a filmmaker and screenwriter student, and I watch so many films a year; depending on the year, I watch over 150 movies, and I can't even think of one recently in that category…maybe Barbie and Wonka? Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish are incredible; Luca is good; the Ninja Turtle animated film was passable; and Super Mario animated film, but that one for me was highly overrated; other than the animation, I didn't think any other aspect was great. Kung Fu Panda 4? But same thing, not a great film; Megamind 2 is atrocious... I don't know.

This movie is a love letter to boxing in every single way possible. There's that moment in the final round when Bailey looks at Max as if to say, "Now you understand. This is why he was beautiful in the ring." And you can see the two of them make eye contact, not holding back any tears. It's a beautiful resolution to the film. It doesn't excuse Charlie's behavior or condone it, but it DOES finally show the side of him that he had repressed for so long. This is where he belongs, and he is holding back nothing.
The climax was pretty much a homage to Rocky.

for a movie that appears to just be big metal machines slugging it out on the surface, Real Steel is genuinely one of the most well written stories of acceptance and personal growth i've seen in a long time. just an incredible story, soundtrack, special effects, and oh my gods each and every actor KILLED it playing their parts to perfection.
10/10 from me, absolutely zero complaints

For real! CGI from ~10 years ago is sometimes better than CGI today because they didn’t rely on it for every scene and actually still used practical effects for shots.
It's really cool to see how this movie was made, it's a lot less cgi then you think, they actually Had life size versions of a lot of the robots for reference and for scenes, ex the ambush truck scene and the atom table scene were both shot with only practical effects and life size robots
Seeing the shot of a son watch his father do something he loves actually makes me cry each time. Every single time. Usually it’s the fathers watching their sons go do something they love. Something like this was so wonderful to see … just makes your heart grow. Every day I see my parents getting older, and any time you see them doing something they enjoyed when young, almost seeing them when they were young - something we don’t think on often, our parents were once people with dreams and ambitions before us, being young and making dumb mistakes… just makes me cry eachhhh dang time. Portrayed very well.
I really love this movie. I love how you can almost feel Atom as another live character with a soul of his own. What a great movie.

Arguably the first zombie movie and terrifying for many reasons. Especially for it's time. Then Omega Man came with Charlton Heston and ultimately Will Smith. Richard Matheson did more in Hollywood than anyone knows.
Fun Facts:
1. The three kids asking about Ambush at the start of the film are Shawn Levy's children. In fact, two of them make a guest appearance in "Free Guy", another Shawn Levy film (they're the girls who are seen performing the bank robbery mission, with one of them saying, "Waste that mother-"). Hugh Jackson also provide a guest appearance in that film was the voice of the guy who gives Molotov Girl information about the video clip with information she's looking for.
2. The film is loosely adapted from a short story called Steel by Richard Matheson (best known for his novels Somewhere in Time and I Am Legend, as well as several short stories that were adapted into iconic episodes of The Twilight Zone, such as Little Girl Lost. Steel was also adapted into a TZ episode). Matheson also written the short story Duel, which was made into a TV movie and then released on the big screen, directed by a young Steven Spielberg (who served as the producer of this film). This film was the last live action film adaptation of Richard Matheson's work before his passing two years later after this film's release.
3. Originally, Levy was going to have the bots be all digital, but Spielberg suggested to him that doing practical robots and CG (which helped get better performances from the actors in the film). The practical robots featured in the film were made by Legacy Effects, formerly Stan Winston Effects (who made The Terminator, Aliens and Predator. They also did the animatronic dinosaurs for Jurassic Park).
4. When first sent the script, Hugh Jackman read it to his son Oscar as a bedtime story. Oscar was so captivated by the story of 'Real Steel' that Jackman knew he had to take the role of Charlie Kenton.
5. The location for Bailey's boxing training facility is in Detroit, as was the Crash Palace. The shooting location for Crash Palace was a former automotive factory.
6. The truck Charlie drives and moves his fighting bots around in is a 1960 International Sightliner.
7. This movie has many actors from Marvel films (MCU and non-MCU). Anthony Mackie, Evangeline Lilly, and Dakota Goyo have played Falcon/Sam Wilson, the Wasp/Hope, and young Thor, respectively in the MCU. Hugh Jackman played Wolverine/Logan in the Marvel-based X-Men series. Kevin Durand played the blob in the Wolverine movie. And Hope Davis, who plays the aunt, plays Tony Stark's mom.
8. Charlie Kenton's idea to wear down Zeus's power supply by allowing him to repeatedly land blows on Atom was in fact a technique used by real life professional boxer Muhammad Ali. Nicknamed the 'rope-a-dope', Ali utilized the strategy to tire fellow boxer George Foreman, a much stronger opponent than himself, and eventually gain victory. Ali famously angered Foreman with phrases such as "Is that all you got, George?" during the fight, mirrored in the film by Kenton's taunting hand gesture.
9. Kingpin, the bombastic promoter at The Zoo and Metro's controller, is played by the screenwriter of the film John Gatins. After this film, he worked again with Robert Zemeckis (who was one of the producers of this film along with Spielberg) on the 2012 film Flight with Denzel Washington.
10. In a nod to the source story, the first fight with Noisy Boy was much like the fight in the book. Both were matches where the main character had to haggle his way in, both lost early, and neither got the money they thought they were going to get.
11. In the scene where Atom is activated for the first time, director Shawn Levy told Atom's puppeteer to mirror everything that Dakota Goyo did, without telling Dakota. The look of wonder on Max's face as he sees Atom sitting up, looking at him, and moving with him is genuine.
12. Charlie and Ricky's history is that they were both fighters, with Ricky beating Charlie in the ring.
13. Since the film's release, the rise in reported cases of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE, aka Boxer's Dementia) in both boxing and other extreme/contact sports and the debilitating effects it leads to means that film's premise of human boxing being banned in the near future out of concern for the health and safety of the participants may not be so far fetched.
14. Max uses Atom's Shadow function to make him dance before fights. Many boxers and other athletes take dance and ballet classes in their off time because it helps with their speed, agility, and concentration. By teaching him how to dance Max also contributes to one of Atom's greatest strengths, his speed and maneuverability due to his small size.
15. The motel that Charlie and Max stay at after the fight at the Zoo, where Charlie is seen beginning to train Atom, was the same motel used for the location of the horror thriller Vacancy (2007).

I saw this movie when it first came out, laughed hard at Charlie not wanting to be a dad and all that.
13 years later, with a kid who is nearly 2 years now, I started crying instead at moments in the film. Kids deserve their parents. Both of them.
My dad left when I was 18 months. Now I have 4 kids of my own. I couldn't imagine being without them. Thank you for being a great dad and being there for your kiddo.
Funny fact: During the scene of Hugh Jackman giving the kid the burrito, on their first take he couldn't rip the paper bag open. 🤭

I've watched this so many times lol. One thing that is realistic is the ending of the Zues fight. As the champion if a fight goes to the judges 99% of the time the champion retains the title.
Good underdog, redemption, love story.
I'm no boxing expert, but in this case I think it would have been a fair call by the judges. Zeus was controlling most of the fight. Atom only had that last round where he really dominated.

When you look at the cover of Real Steel, you don't think much of it, but when you watch it to the very end, it certainly has a lot going on that keeps you both entertained and rooting for the kid and his father as the relationship between them continues to grow.
This is the only movie that is guaranteed to make me cry at the end every time. Saw this in theaters on a whim cause it was the only movie interesting enough at that time. It was the best surprise I could hope for.
Fun fact: Sugar Ray Leonard was the boxing advisor for the film.

I watched this movie a few months before my dad passed away. It's not the all time greatest movie we've ever watched together, but it has become the most meaningful; both then and especially now. It reminds me of all the times we spent together while I was growing up. Spending every weekend fishing from the crack of dawn til noon even though neither of us were any good at it. I didn't understand it at the time, but my dad did. It was never really about the fishing, it was about sharing the time we had that we sometimes take for granted. Thanks for reacting to this one, it holds a special place in my heart.

After the Zeus fight, when they were interviewing the girl (I cannot remember her name) even though what she saying is that Zeus is still the champ, you can tell by her body language and her eyes that she is NERVOUS because there has NEVER been a bot that could last one round with Zeus, let alone get a hit on him. And Atom and Charlie SHOVED that down her throat by being incredibly resilient and pounding the hell out of Zeus. And I LOVE that!!
And you can tell that the guy beside her in the same interview was so pissed off at the fact he almost lost he couldn't even comment about it
I love movies like Real Steel. On the surface, they sound like a silly idea. A movie in which robots punch each other. But then they manage to add this emotional layer to the silliness and it just hits you right in the feels.

This movie really deserved a sequel but it slipped under the radar in 2011 because the Transformers and Marvel were getting all of the hype.
Take two parts "Over the Top", one part "Rocky", one part "Rocky IV", add a healthy heaping of robots, and you get the awesomeness that is Real Steel.
I didn't know if you guys knew this, but the actress that's with Hugh Jackman in the movie is the wasp from Ant-Man and the wasp in Ant-Man 3. I didn't know if you guys knew that or not. Just giving you a heads up on that one. The one that was watching the fight at the end of the movie. She was also in avengers endgame
I remember kinda avoiding this film at first because these type of movies are usually just heavy action and fancy special effects with very little focus on character and story but ended up just watching it one day randomly and I LOVED IT
I think a lot of people passed on this movie when it came out because they thought it was just a “boxing” film, and didn’t go any further than that, but they missed a really good time.
I wonder if the aunt and uncle maybe helped fund repairing and improving ATOM after seeing how important it was to Max
My headcanon is that they start acting as a sort of sponsor for Max's robot boxing carrier. We are getting a TV show for real steel and I hope max at least has a cameo as a professional robot boxer, maybe he's the champ, maybe he's the protagonist even

Very underrrated movie. I felt many didnt give it a shot thinking it was just some robot rock'em sock'em movie, but it's a really good film. Once people see it they're pleasantly surprised by how good it is.
The cinematography in this film is amazing. The shot with the distance between them when they meet, the open shots getting to the fair. I loved it.
Also, we have Wolverine Falcon, The blob, Tony Stark's mom, and the wasp in this file (did I miss anyone?)
Real Steel is such an underrated movie, sure the robot theme might be kinda corny to some but I think core of the movie is the amount of heart it got.
The character development and the redemption of Charlie making things right with Max...damn I dunno what to say except that it was so damn hearth warming.

It is a testament to Hugh Jackman's charm/charisma/magnetism/ability-to-act-his-ass-off that he is able to take on the role of a real asshole like Charlie Kenton and actually make us care about him. Props should be given to young Dakota Goyo as Max as well, because he makes the bond between father and son believable.
Went watch this at the CMX in Tampa opening night with the wife. It was on the double sized screen with a 4k laser projector, with subs firing up through the love seat we were sitting on. Our whole bodies shook every time there was a hard hit. Hands down the best theater experience in my whole life. The combination of comfort, full visual and audio immersion that sucks you in, and gripping heart felt story haven't been beat yet. Sadly we had to move for my next duty assignment and so we never got to watch another movie there.
I’ve said this when I was 6 and will say it again. Not only such an underrated gem of a movie, but imo the best movie that have ever been made. Action, character development, heartwarming scenes, great story, badass and completely unexpected from what people thought this movie would be. Again, absolute gem.

The truck is a 1960 IH Sightliner. The IH Sightliner was made from 1957 to 1962. Drivers would cover up the lower windows to avoid glare from the lights of oncoming vehicles.
Considering this is a Rockem' Sockem' Robots movie... it's pretty spectacular. It's one of my favorite movies.

A lot of the fight scenes are almost shot for shot remakes of Rocky scenes. From rope-a-doping and taunting Clubber Lang, to Apollo almost escaping the corner and getting thrown back in, to getting beaten up by Drago all round until landing that one big first punch.
I watched this for the first time years ago, it's still just as fun to watch now as it was then. So glad you enjoyed this hidden gem.

This is one of those movies that slipped under the radar when it came out, but I have loved it since the first moment I saw it. It has some very unexpected moments in it. So much fun, so very touching, and just an amazing story. One of my absolute favorites!

man its been a minute since I've seen this. Its such an underrated movie these days. It would be so cool to see this kind of thing done like this irl. There used to be one called Robot Combat League, but the robots were more like giant rockem sockems. Still cool as hell though. Anyway this is a hell of a movie. I love how even though we know Hugh as Wolverine, he can still make us believe we are watching a character that *isn't* Wolverine. Evangeline Lilly is great in this too, as is the kid, who reminds me of the kid from Iron Man 3 (i know its not) but yeah, he's really good.

Fun fact! In a scene that was ultimately cut from the movie and never filmed, they were gonna add during the final fight a scene after Atom's voice recognition is damaged in the 4th Round, Charlie tries to convince Max to throw in the towel however when they look at Atom, it would show a close-up of his fist with him index finger extending telling Max and Charlie to let him fight one more round proving that Atom indeed can understand both Max and Charlie throughout the entire movie. It would've been cool in my opinion if that actually made it in the movie, but I'm pretty satisfied with the final film as is. Pretty cool eh?

They filmed part of this film near where I worked (fairgrounds and courthouse scene) down the road from where I worked in Mason, Michigan. It's a small town, so it was a big deal and the extras from the area had a wonderful time. Hugh rode the ferris wheel with some of the kids between takes.

Love it how this movie is just a (well made) Over the Top Remake but with boxing robots instead of arm wrestling :D

That moment gave me chills. Atom was absolutely the better fighter in that ring. No bot could get past zeus within 1 round and Atom took him to the 5th and final round, knocked him down and won the crowd. *Legendary*

This movie is something between Rocky (1976) and Over The Top (1987), both starring Sly Stallone.
Check out the latter, you'll understand.
I liked how the script 'called out Zeus' instead of trying some montage of rising thru the ranks.
So glaad you got to this movie. I think this is an often overlooked film. People were it because they thought it a lame rockem sock em robot movie, which was the rumor when it first came out. But it turned out to be so much more. Great characters. Great world-building. And it is really a good classic boxing movie wrapped in future tech. Love this movie.

I loved Real Steel, but did nobody realize it's just "Over the Top" with robots. A movie I also liked. They did make the Hugh Jackman character a MUCH lower moral character than the Sylvester Stallon father.
