Gavin O'Coonor is a really underrated director. He also did Miracle, Pride and Glory and Warrior. The last being one of the best movies I've seen with Tom Hardy. The accountant was something that no one saw coming and it is such a cool movie. Everything came together not so much at the end but unfolding intermittently throughout the film which is how you keep the audience invested. Great reaction, I felt the same way when I saw this the first time.
I………. watched your reactions with tears in my face because I have an autistic teen. I had to learn how understand him, It wasn’t easy and still don’t, was/is hard for us to keep him away from the bullies. But I tell you something, I never never stopped loving him. He started to walk , speak and write by therapy. Not everyone has the ability or economic conditions to help children with Autism or any other brain deseases. Good reaction guys Keep it up 👍
Every time I watch this movie I feel like we loose not just the coolest Batman, but THE Batman.. No offense to other actors of course, but it feels like if every other is a coffee drink with an espresso shot in it as usually, he is the shot itself.. and would became a double one if opens up and didn't effect by something on a side.
Since you love J.K. Simmons acting, then you HAVE TO react to Counterpart (2017), a two season "Spy-Fi" thriller. He's brilliant, and you may end up binge-watching, its so good. So many reactors have slept on this one. Consider it.
This movie was one of the best “hidden gems” in cinema. It’s both a classic action flick, and subverts expectations at the same time. Easily one of Ben Afleck’s best movies.
For the most part I feel it represents some autistic traits really well. At least a lot better than most other on screen depictions. His reasonings and processes are very familiar to me
No but ... a "hiidden gem" . Poeple have this tendency to call hidden gem the simple thing they just didn't get the intelligence to go see I mean at some point it is just terrible culture in "cinéma". If instead of just going to the theatar to see the last Marvel movie some just go there to see a bit of other movie they will find there is less of hidden gem out there as you call it. So much so The Accountant is not a very hard movie. I'ts a drama with a bit of action so the main genra that people consume when they go in theater so if The Accountant is an hidden gem what to think about Three Billboard of revenge, the kurosawa movie's, the italian cinema of the 70's. or more modern thing like Misanthrope or Adagio ... Nobody went to sse those movie they preferd to see Guardian of The Galaxy Thrid bullshit. I mean we are responsible of our own ignorance.
I am autistic, and when I saw this film for the first time, I was so overjoyed to see someone on the spectrum portrayed well and was a kick-ass superhero. I’m glad you guys reacted to this film. I hope they make a second film with this character. Those of us with autism aren’t weird, we’re just different. Love you guys and your channel. Thank you.
I believe I am also, along with ADD, depression and delayed growth (I reached my full height at 21) my life was full of bullying and abuse despite being smarter than most people my age and up. I just never got diagnosed as autistic everything else overshadowed it.
I teach marching bands how to march around (I know, strange) and have contact with high schoolers daily in the winter. I've been doing it for a few decades, and know an autistic person almost from the get go. I've tailored my teaching to help these kids succeed...I tell them what to do and don't say much more at all. They, in general, start out slowly, then it's like a fuse burning...and in the end they kick ass. So, yeah, I get it and this movie was SO appropos! And Steven is a very perceptive individual...
I loved the movie too. People think I'm weird, not sure if I'm autistic, or I am really just weird, but I related to all the characters, even the Dad and his tough love. He was trying the only way he knew how. You can't get bent out of shape about that. Glad to hear they are making another.
FUN FACT: That painting in film and at the films conclusion, is called "FREE FORM" by Jackson Pollock. Its estimated worth is upward to $140 million. ANOTHER FUN FACT: The Accountant 2 is currently in production, principal photography began in March 2024
I hope they don't screw it up like Sicario 2. Having the Accountant protecting an autistic kid or something. Just stick to what made the first one good.
The comics in the drawer are part of Wolff's alternative assets that act as his portable wealth. The two comics shown are Action Comics #1 from 1938 (the first appearance of Superman) with an approximate asset value of $6 million, and All-American Comics #16 from 1940 (the first appearance of Green Lantern) with an approximate asset value of $1 million. Underneath the comics are vintage baseball cards, the mustard-colored one on the far left being a 1909 Honus Wagner, perhaps the rarest baseball card in the world, worth over $7 million. Grabbing any one of those items would have been far more valuable than the cash and gold bars in the other two drawers.
The airstream+pickup is the lifestyle we all wish we could have. It's literally a traveling vault/bank/arsenal/office/house all in one. He probably has well over a quarter BILLION dollars worth of assets in there.

I kinda hope that Anna's not in the sequel actually, because I feel like if she was in it then her character wouldn't survive - and I really like her character.
The fact John Lithgow's death is so sudden and anticlimactic is just perfect. Because to Chriss its just another task to complete no more or less important than the last piece of the Ali puzzel.
Autistic person here (Diagnosed if you're wandering). The most important thing to remember is that every autistic person is different on some levels, but with that said, Ben Affleck did an amazing acting job as portraying an autistic person! He did lots of researchs apparently to really understand how we work and how to portray it as good as possible. I just love this actor so much. One of my favorite movies.

Underrated fact: Dana is VERY smart. She may be neurotypical, but she was the reason why Christian was brought in IN THE FIRST PLACE. Which means she might be out of her depth in everything else he is skilled in, but his intellect sees a kindred spirit in hers. And she sees his intellect as a kindred spirit to hers too.

I might argue that she may not be neurotypical. It's a spectrum. She could be kind of like my dad, a lot closer to typical social ability than stereotypes, but still skewed from typical enough to feel like or end up as an outsider. Still wicked smart, though.

I've been recommending this movie to people for several years now and I'm still the only one I personally know who's seen it. It's so frustrating because this is such a great movie.

One of my fav movies. Such incredible moments. When he times driving his truck into the garage perfectly as the door shuts…… is a tactic law enforcement knows about when tailing people. Notice when things go wrong, he hits the garage door bc he’s off his game. So many more cool moments too.

Most of those advance of New Kind Of Kill, too. We've all seen head-shots, for example, but when have we seen someone 'stab' a gun-barrel into a victim's eyes, then shoot thru the brain-skull to kill a bad guy across the room? (Equalizer 3's opening scene.) We've all seen expert shots, but only in NOBODY did the camera lay behind the gun-barrel as 3 bad guys came thru a doorway, aligned for a 3-in-1 shot? These are all 'exciting' because the craftsmen of stunts, choreography and cameramen work together... I remember seeing Roger Moore's 'twisting bridge car jump" in MAN WITH GOLDEN GUN and that was superlative (and it still is) but car-jumps were getting rather tame (SMOKEY & BANDIT). JOHN WICK featured so many super-quick head-shots in speedy transitions, too. All of these films seem to push some imaginative limit to these stunts, shots and choreography. I'm also thinking of lists of Westerns where the solo gunfighter shows up... or Bruce Lee films (ENTER THE DRAGON actually had several fighters on both sides so I'm conflicted over considering that a one-man-army qualifier).
@@Shadi092986 What have you thought of that film? I give it an average rating for a Jason flick, with perhaps PARKER being my fave, but I do enjoy those CRANK films, too. And Transport-1. I think my problem with BEE is that they keep peeling open layer after layer of 'bad guys' as if the first couple wasn't bad enough. I didn't need Bad Boy to be the Prez' son. Just kill him in a very harsh and vicious way because, in Good vs. Evil Films, the bad guys need to be vicious AND their demise needs to be even more so. That "attaching First Bad Guy to truck and driving it off bridge" wasn't a particularly cruel fate... dragging him down miles of road until he's a bloody pulp - THAT might have been vicious enough. ha ha
@@dehwanegz While I do like "Mr. Right" _(and the adorable Anna Kendrick, ofc),_ I don't think, it really fits this list. "Mr. Right" is more rom-com, than "one man army on revenge trip". And if we'd add that, then we'd also have to add "Knight and Day", with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. But again: at its core, that one's also more a rom-com - with some action added to it.
Nice bit of detail - when Chris snipes the bad guy holding the woman at 24:42, we hear the impact of the shot before we hear the gunshot itself, which is correct because these are hypersonic rounds.
Yea. When i first watched it, it blew my mind because of the sound to have that delay, meaning he shot him about a mile away. Foreshadowing when he shot the fruit earlier. Nice detail.

yeah its call laundering money. By paying for services with rare collectibles or by using dirty money to buy collectibles you can clear your money & make it easier to move instead of bags of money you can't deposit easily.
Couple of things: the "big goon that can't fight" is Tait Fletcher, UFC veteran and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. The dowel with the shins is causing microfractures. When the calcification grows over them, it adds bone density and makes them stronger than before (in addition to desensitization). And one of those comics in his trailer would be worth more than all of the cash he had in the drawer.

You want to know what's funny, I saw this movie and then a few years later I was diagnosed with Autism, and I am definitely not a math savant, or any kind of savant for that matter.
and you're not "the accountant" (not a john wick), not an assassin, either, laughs every man's dream, being a genius, rich, powerful, and deadly bad'ss assassin/killer/highly-combat-skilled...
That's because being autistic has nothing to do with being the character of Raymond Babbitt in Rainman and Ben Affleck character in the account, while both has autism they also had Savant Syndrome and they are two different things and unrelated conditions. Someone with autism has the same chance of having Savant Syndrome as someone without autism.
I use my ADHD at my workplace where I work with kids on the spectrum and more than not ADHD. Sometimes a superpower can be just recognising thoughts, feelings and needs before everyone else. I usually get ahead of most conflicts by a couple of minutes just by seeing the tiny threads of frustration get closer and closer to each other. And most of the kids, including my own two, don't have the savant magic. Then again my oldest knows every manga and anime title and plotline and the other one has mastered Pokemon. 😁
This is one of the few movies out there that I will sit and watch every time I see it on, enjoying every minute of it. Doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, it's great every time.
Imagine stealing his airstream because they are worth over a 100,000 then realising its full of some of the rarest things around and the contents are probably worth closing on 1 billion dollars, you would be happy until you realise whoever owns it will probably hunt you down and kill you.
I mean, their dad conditioned them for a life of violence. Braxton murders innocent people for money. Christian cooks the books for cartels (which is juxtaposed by his obscenely large donations to charity and doing good deeds for honest, average people). Did we see the same movie?
Welcome to the Accountant fandom -- and now you understand why so many of us have been hoping and waiting so long for The Accountant 2, which with any luck they won't mess up. Among other things, I'd seen her before, but this was the movie that made me crush hard on Anna Kendrick.
I love the camera work in this film. When the accountant is shooting at the fruit at the farm, between the 2nd and 3rd shot, the camera movement simulates the viewer being the shooter in the scope. The camera shifts up and off of the destroyed fruit, over to above the remaining melon, then down to take the shot. Very cool detail of realistic POV riflery.
This cliche gets tossed around movie reviews all the time, but this movie is just absolutely "pitch perfect." The movie's logical editing, color grading and music mimics Affleck's minimal character and stark personality. Completely agree with Nikki&Steve about Anna Kendrick's character, giving the film some bright color and vulnerability -- and a perfect proxy for us the audience as a stakeholder in the story.
I can't believe you guys missed a "Star Wars" character sighting. The "big goon" with the beard that Chris fought on the farm was Tait Fletcher. Better known as Paz Vizsla in the shows. This is the way.😉
@@teresah.6696 where in the film were their elements of that interaction between the wife and husband? In my experience that sort of abusive relationship existed we would have also seen the husband dragging the wife back into the home regardless of her wishes. Or, more physical abuse of the children. In fact, the term narcissist gets overused and misinterpreted. But, it's actually defined as a type of 'emotionally manipulative' behavior. When infact, the evidence shown of the father's reaction is neither abusive nor emotional in kind.
I’m pretty sure the end of the film suggests Christian and Braxton would’ve greatly benefited from staying at that cabin for neurodivergent children. If their father let go of his pride and “tough love” mindset. We see where Braxton’s life took him after being conditioned for violence, on top of unresolved abandonment issues. I’m not going to defend the mom because abandoning your children is wrong, end of story. I just find it odd how many people ignore the harm their father did.

Not everyone has the economic facilities to afford with a autistic family, giving them all they need. Theses things change according where you live ( country) and what are doing you for a living ( rich / poor). That’s a reality. In Spanish countries you have to face the World, if you wanna succeed then has to be in hard way. I’m not telling you that you has to be an assassin but you have to be a cunning person to survive with boys and girls at the School and you day by day life 50-40 years ago, you had to be “ normal “ like the others, you had to hide your defections. One autistic child is a problem I can’t imagine 3 autistic kids. I have a bipolar daughter and a autistic boy. I couldn’t count the many times that they were fighting each others through the years because they are different, they have different urgencies, likes, tastes. The scene in the movie when the police guy was caught by the accountant and he said that he had two children and he loved them so much………. I couldn’t hold my tears running on my face. I think if you have a dysfunctional family then you must deal with that. Now is more easier than before
Director/writer Gavin O'Connor also did the often overlooked film 'Warrior' which has a similar theme about a fractured relationship between two brothers and their father. Stars Tom Hardy & Nick Notle definitely a must watch.

What I love about the fight between the brothers. Chris is allowing Braxton to express his anger (hit him) until Braxton demands that he fight back. The moment he does, Chris takes him to the ground and has him dead to rights.
As an engineer on the spectrum who does analyze things for a living, having the ability to see such things is not all it is cracked up to be. I mean obviously this movie is a dramatization, and yes Affleck plays an autistic action-hero type that I've seen many other autistic people be thrilled to see. Affleck gets so many small details correct that that empathy for some thread of self-identification with the character is very strong. However as kind of depicted in the movie the obsessive, detail-oriented focus needed when you do such things is a double-edged sword. You find yourself unable to let problems go, your thoughts day and night can circle over and over on the same thing, any interruptions tend to invoke irrational anger responses that you work forever to control. When working in such modes you tend to want to completely isolate yourself from everyone around you. Having to stop projects can lead to triggering depression. In many cases being able to produce content or something creative from scratch is usually my ambition. But analyzing other people's information and data for needed changes or mistakes is my artform. If I were to do something like creating a video it is like dressing up, wearing a mask, and acting a part. I would need to memorize lines and behaviors, responses to how to react, what to say, what not to say, all the time worried about making the end product perfect. That level acting of an extraverted nature is extremely draining and exhausting. So in many cases while being able to have such focus and concentration may look fun and interesting, I can say the same about what you two produce. I envy that capability.

The Accountant is actually a really good non-costume Batman movie, with Affleck and Simmons reprising the Batman & Commissioner Gordon roles they played in the DC cinematic universe. Affleck/Wolff is the forensic detective with mad fighting skills bringing down crime syndicates, and Simmons/King is the law enforcement officer brought in on cases to assist with the legal side of the busts. Bernthal/Braxton is like a Robin character, and Wolff's childhood friend Justine is a sort of Alfred or Barbara Gordon/Oracle character. His Airstream is like his Batcave.
The father, whilst seemingly cruel, was actually giving him all he needed to survive in the world. That was the way he showed his love to his boys, he stayed, and made sure that they could each take care of themselves, and each other.
The film does conway it quite correctly. The father was cruel. He made them both into killers. He trained them, did not raise them. His brother is rightly pissed that he went to their dad not him for the funeral. Less about the dad dying, more about his brother not coming to him. The dad was abusive towards both kids. Not because he was evil, but because it was the only way he knew how to deal with it. The shit with "hardening" autistic kids is something some people still try to do and it is literally torture. It is on the same level as beating a kid. Rubbing with towells and sticks was made illegal in most countries in the 2000's. It is considered severe abuse and will land you in jail. What I love about this movie is that it does not judge it, just shows it. Many parents thought they were helping their kids doing that stuff, so did the dad in the movie. He did not know better. Also, not his dad thought him how to survive, the older guy in prison did. His dad was the reason he was in there in the first place.
The Accountant is autistic so he is not consciously trying to be "cold or indifferent" There are different levels of autism, some high levels where the person cannot speak, or a person on the lower spectrum of autism speaks but might be emotionally distant or he is sensitive to sound and touch. Also, very intelligent and specific. An autistic child of 5 may have the social/emotional development of a 2/3 year old..
This is a criminally under rated movie. I watch it every chance I get. Under performed but I haven't talked to anyone that doesn't like it. Thank you for the reaction.

Controlling input...we must not be allowed to think...to process our control over our reality. Diagnosing a possible MENTAL DISABILITY restricted my development...MOM helped avoid that by relocating her two daughters, our nuclear family, often as local schools scheduled IQ tests. MOM NO SLACKER! 😆
I love the flashbacks so much. Especially the taking them to bullies and making his kids understand lesson to stand up for themselves but also gave them the choice. Dad was hardcore but did what he the needed to help him.
I loved how when this movie came out, the critics who didn't like it tried saying it didn't capture autism well, and as an autistic guy, i can tell you this movie capture autism perfectly, especially the scene when he's telling anna kendrick's character about what he found in the bored room at 18:50, and he's very talkative and showing his emotions for the first time because he's comfortable with her, then as soon as the other woman walks in, and she leaves, he goes back to his emotionless demeanor i do that shit all of the time
The representation of the autism community in this movie, especially towards the end, is absolutely beautiful. Especially with Justine as Wollf’s partner.
I'm sooo excited they've finally worked on the sequel. Multiple John Wick and Equalizer sequels have come out since the first accountant came out and I was starting to think it wouldn't happen. I can't wait🤗!
An absolutely outstanding film. Today it is almost an award if a film, like with this particular topic, is not a film for the general public. He hasn't been softened beyond recognition. "The will to act"

36:06 Right or wrong, Dad is trying to ;give survival skill to a son who would otherwise have problems his whole life. Just like in the beginning when he said Bright lights and loud noise scares him, he needs more of that to learn to deal with it. Later we see him using the flashing lights and loud music to keep from reacting negatively to it. He is harsh, but wants his sons to be strong enough to deal with anything that comes their way.
Steven,you probably know this already but the constant impacts on bone makes it thicker and stronger,I've done this on my knuckles for many years and it does work.Great reaction,I love this type of movie.
Those were not any comic books. Those were Action Comics #1 which is essentially Superman #1 and the most valuable comic book you can own. Not sure if he is a collector or if those were assets when shit hits the fan.
Great review of one of my Top-10 movies. I honestly believe many us have some level of autism. I obliviously don't know professionally, but I know a fairly large number of people that find social interactions so much harder to do than math, science and analytics. I was one who was fortunate enough to be physically capable, in addiction to my social deficiencies, but I always think about those who did not have that edge to help push through the issues. Thank you for reviewing this important movie.
This is One Of Ben's best ever performances, I am curious to see how much research he actually done for the role,especially into the Autism aspect, obviously there are different degrees on the spectrum, looking forward to seeing the Sequel and what they are going to do with it..

My favourite all-time movie. Terrific acting, great storyline, keeps you guessing. I've been waiting a long time for The Accountant 2, and it's been on the drawing board for years. I only hope I live long enough to see it (I'm getting pretty old & frail now). Such a shame that Anna Kendrick won't be in it. Thank you so much for reacting to it.
As a person with autism… I have mixed feelings about this movie. Most of our weird quirks, we do that to calm down. The same hypersensitivity to certain fabrics also makes us not like crowds. If I go to a Starbucks to sit and read, if I forget my headphones… my mind is trying to listen to every conversation in earshot. Since none of them usually apply to me, I disregard what was said. But I’m always listening, and then always analyzing if I need to act (which I almost never do). It’s exhausting. So while a lot of people treat this as the well-trained dude being a bad-ass, and his super power is autism. What I see is a father with an autistic kid. The only tool in the father’s toolbox is PsyOps. His job is to break a to person’s mind to force compliance. His job is to torture people. Not the physical person, but their minds. And the kid did pick up some useful skills along the way. But he was still tortured for years by a professional torturer. And when the dad thinks the kid is getting “better”, but really he’s learning not do the things that bother other people. But… autism hardly ever gets portrayed in a positive light. Accountant by day, assassin by night is… something… I guess. That said, I really liked how, at the end, we find out that his, assistant whom we never see is the really “problematic” girl he met at the one school they tried letting him attend. A lot of autistic people are non-verbal, but she can type a lot. See what I mean by mixed feelings? The moral of the story is NOT that autism is his super power. It’s that he was tortured as a child, but also learned how to be a bad-ass.

“Accountant” the movie is brilliant and meant to entertain the audience, it does! This is why a sequel is doomed. Very few film makers have producers that want to make money from good movies. These production companies wish to manipulate not to entertain. I hope I’m wrong but look at what is happening!

Gavin O'Coonor is a really underrated director. He also did Miracle, Pride and Glory and Warrior. The last being one of the best movies I've seen with Tom Hardy. The accountant was something that no one saw coming and it is such a cool movie. Everything came together not so much at the end but unfolding intermittently throughout the film which is how you keep the audience invested. Great reaction, I felt the same way when I saw this the first time.

I had to learn how understand him, It wasn’t easy and still don’t, was/is hard for us to keep him away from the bullies.
But I tell you something, I never never stopped loving him. He started to walk , speak and write by therapy.
Not everyone has the ability or economic conditions to help children with Autism or any other brain deseases.

Every time I watch this movie I feel like we loose not just the coolest Batman, but THE Batman.. No offense to other actors of course, but it feels like if every other is a coffee drink with an espresso shot in it as usually, he is the shot itself.. and would became a double one if opens up and didn't effect by something on a side.
Since you love J.K. Simmons acting, then you HAVE TO react to Counterpart (2017), a two season "Spy-Fi" thriller. He's brilliant, and you may end up binge-watching, its so good. So many reactors have slept on this one. Consider it.

This movie was one of the best “hidden gems” in cinema. It’s both a classic action flick, and subverts expectations at the same time. Easily one of Ben Afleck’s best movies.
For the most part I feel it represents some autistic traits really well. At least a lot better than most other on screen depictions. His reasonings and processes are very familiar to me
Next to Good Will Hunting, I think it's Affleck's best film.

I am autistic, and when I saw this film for the first time, I was so overjoyed to see someone on the spectrum portrayed well and was a kick-ass superhero. I’m glad you guys reacted to this film. I teach marching bands how to march around (I know, strange) and have contact with high schoolers daily in the winter. I've been doing it for a few decades, and know an autistic person almost from the get go. I've tailored my teaching to help these kids succeed...I tell them what to do and don't say much more at all. They, in general, start out slowly, then it's like a fuse burning...and in the end they kick ass. So, yeah, I get it and this movie was SO appropos! And Steven is a very perceptive individual...

I loved the movie too. People think I'm weird, not sure if I'm autistic, or I am really just weird, but I related to all the characters, even the Dad and his tough love. He was trying the only way he knew how. You can't get bent out of shape about that. Glad to hear they are making another.

Autistic person here (Diagnosed if you're wandering). The most important thing to remember is that every autistic person is different on some levels, but with that said, Ben Affleck did an amazing acting job as portraying an autistic person! He did lots of researchs apparently to really understand how we work and how to portray it as good as possible. I just love this actor so much. One of my favorite movies.

Underrated fact: Dana is VERY smart. She may be neurotypical, but she was the reason why Christian was brought in IN THE FIRST PLACE. Which means she might be out of her depth in everything else he is skilled in, but his intellect sees a kindred spirit in hers. And she sees his intellect as a kindred spirit to hers too.
She's allistic, but I read her as ADHD. Also, pretty extreme high IQ, which can be its own form of neurodivergence.

One of my fav movies. Such incredible moments. When he times driving his truck into the garage perfectly as the door shuts…… is a tactic law enforcement knows about when tailing people. Notice when things go wrong, he hits the garage door bc he’s off his game. So many more cool moments too.

The renaissance of "one-man-army" - action flicks, that we loved so much in the 80s.
Most of those advance of New Kind Of Kill, too. We've all seen head-shots, for example, but when have we seen someone 'stab' a gun-barrel into a victim's eyes, then shoot thru the brain-skull to kill a bad guy across the room? (Equalizer 3's opening scene.) We've all seen expert shots, but only in NOBODY did the camera lay behind the gun-barrel as 3 bad guys came thru a doorway, aligned for a 3-in-1 shot?
These are all 'exciting' because the craftsmen of stunts, choreography and cameramen work together... I remember seeing Roger Moore's 'twisting bridge car jump" in MAN WITH GOLDEN GUN and that was superlative (and it still is) but car-jumps were getting rather tame (SMOKEY & BANDIT). JOHN WICK featured so many super-quick head-shots in speedy transitions, too. All of these films seem to push some imaginative limit to these stunts, shots and choreography.
I'm also thinking of lists of Westerns where the solo gunfighter shows up... or Bruce Lee films (ENTER THE DRAGON actually had several fighters on both sides so I'm conflicted over considering that a one-man-army qualifier).

Just kill him in a very harsh and vicious way because, in Good vs. Evil Films, the bad guys need to be vicious AND their demise needs to be even more so. That "attaching First Bad Guy to truck and driving it off bridge" wasn't a particularly cruel fate... dragging him down miles of road until he's a bloody pulp - THAT might have been vicious enough. ha ha

Nice bit of detail - when Chris snipes the bad guy holding the woman at 24:42, we hear the impact of the shot before we hear the gunshot itself, which is correct because these are hypersonic rounds.

Couple of things: the "big goon that can't fight" is Tait Fletcher, UFC veteran and one of the nicest guys I've ever met. The dowel with the shins is causing microfractures. When the calcification grows over them, it adds bone density and makes them stronger than before (in addition to desensitization). And one of those comics in his trailer would be worth more than all of the cash he had in the drawer.

That's because being autistic has nothing to do with being the character of Raymond Babbitt in Rainman and Ben Affleck character in the account, while both has autism they also had Savant Syndrome and they are two different things and unrelated conditions.
Someone with autism has the same chance of having Savant Syndrome as someone without autism.
I use my ADHD at my workplace where I work with kids on the spectrum and more than not ADHD. Sometimes a superpower can be just recognising thoughts, feelings and needs before everyone else. I usually get ahead of most conflicts by a couple of minutes just by seeing the tiny threads of frustration get closer and closer to each other. And most of the kids, including my own two, don't have the savant magic. Then again my oldest knows every manga and anime title and plotline and the other one has mastered Pokemon. 😁

This is one of the few movies out there that I will sit and watch every time I see it on, enjoying every minute of it. Doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, it's great every time.
What Christian he's doing with the sound, the light and the stick is to learn to deal with what we call Sensory Overload.
Imagine stealing his airstream because they are worth over a 100,000 then realising its full of some of the rarest things around and the contents are probably worth closing on 1 billion dollars, you would be happy until you realise whoever owns it will probably hunt you down and kill you.
"Name a place I´ll be there." - This is why I love this movie. After all they went trough they were still brothers. Their dad was a good dad.

Welcome to the Accountant fandom -- and now you understand why so many of us have been hoping and waiting so long for The Accountant 2, which with any luck they won't mess up. Among other things, I'd seen her before, but this was the movie that made me crush hard on Anna Kendrick.
I love the camera work in this film. When the accountant is shooting at the fruit at the farm, between the 2nd and 3rd shot, the camera movement simulates the viewer being the shooter in the scope. The camera shifts up and off of the destroyed fruit, over to above the remaining melon, then down to take the shot. Very cool detail of realistic POV riflery.
This cliche gets tossed around movie reviews all the time, but this movie is just absolutely "pitch perfect." The movie's logical editing, color grading and music mimics Affleck's minimal character and stark personality. Completely agree with Nikki&Steve about Anna Kendrick's character, giving the film some bright color and vulnerability -- and a perfect proxy for us the audience as a stakeholder in the story.
I can't believe you guys missed a "Star Wars" character sighting. The "big goon" with the beard that Chris fought on the farm was Tait Fletcher. Better known as Paz Vizsla in the shows. This is the way.😉

In my experience that sort of abusive relationship existed we would have also seen the husband dragging the wife back into the home regardless of her wishes. Or, more physical abuse of the children.

I’m pretty sure the end of the film suggests Christian and Braxton would’ve greatly benefited from staying at that cabin for neurodivergent children. If their father let go of his pride and “tough love” mindset. We see where Braxton’s life took him after being conditioned for violence, on top of unresolved abandonment issues. I’m not going to defend the mom because abandoning your children is wrong, end of story. I just find it odd how many people ignore the harm their father did.

Director/writer Gavin O'Connor also did the often overlooked film 'Warrior' which has a similar theme about a fractured relationship between two brothers and their father. Stars Tom Hardy & Nick Notle definitely a must watch.

What I love about the fight between the brothers. Chris is allowing Braxton to express his anger (hit him) until Braxton demands that he fight back. The moment he does, Chris takes him to the ground and has him dead to rights.
As an engineer on the spectrum who does analyze things for a living, having the ability to see such things is not all it is cracked up to be. I mean obviously this movie is a dramatization, and yes Affleck plays an autistic action-hero type that I've seen many other autistic people be thrilled to see. Affleck gets so many small details correct that that empathy for some thread of self-identification with the character is very strong.
However as kind of depicted in the movie the obsessive, detail-oriented focus needed when you do such things is a double-edged sword. You find yourself unable to let problems go, your thoughts day and night can circle over and over on the same thing, any interruptions tend to invoke irrational anger responses that you work forever to control. When working in such modes you tend to want to completely isolate yourself from everyone around you. Having to stop projects can lead to triggering depression.
In many cases being able to produce content or something creative from scratch is usually my ambition. But analyzing other people's information and data for needed changes or mistakes is my artform. If I were to do something like creating a video it is like dressing up, wearing a mask, and acting a part. I would need to memorize lines and behaviors, responses to how to react, what to say, what not to say, all the time worried about making the end product perfect. That level acting of an extraverted nature is extremely draining and exhausting. So in many cases while being able to have such focus and concentration may look fun and interesting, I can say the same about what you two produce. I envy that capability.

The Accountant is actually a really good non-costume Batman movie, with Affleck and Simmons reprising the Batman & Commissioner Gordon roles they played in the DC cinematic universe. Affleck/Wolff is the forensic detective with mad fighting skills bringing down crime syndicates, and Simmons/King is the law enforcement officer brought in on cases to assist with the legal side of the busts. Bernthal/Braxton is like a Robin character, and Wolff's childhood friend Justine is a sort of Alfred or Barbara Gordon/Oracle character. His Airstream is like his Batcave.
The father, whilst seemingly cruel, was actually giving him all he needed to survive in the world. That was the way he showed his love to his boys, he stayed, and made sure that they could each take care of themselves, and each other.
The film does conway it quite correctly. The father was cruel. He made them both into killers. He trained them, did not raise them. His brother is rightly pissed that he went to their dad not him for the funeral. Less about the dad dying, more about his brother not coming to him. The dad was abusive towards both kids.
Not because he was evil, but because it was the only way he knew how to deal with it. The shit with "hardening" autistic kids is something some people still try to do and it is literally torture. It is on the same level as beating a kid. Rubbing with towells and sticks was made illegal in most countries in the 2000's. It is considered severe abuse and will land you in jail.
What I love about this movie is that it does not judge it, just shows it. Many parents thought they were helping their kids doing that stuff, so did the dad in the movie. He did not know better.
Also, not his dad thought him how to survive, the older guy in prison did. His dad was the reason he was in there in the first place.
The Accountant is autistic so he is not consciously trying to be "cold or indifferent" There are different levels of autism, some high levels where the person cannot speak, or a person on the lower spectrum of autism speaks but might be emotionally distant or he is sensitive to sound and touch. Also, very intelligent and specific. An autistic child of 5 may have the social/emotional development of a 2/3 year old..
This is a criminally under rated movie. I watch it every chance I get. Under performed but I haven't talked to anyone that doesn't like it. Thank you for the reaction.

I love the flashbacks so much. Especially the taking them to bullies and making his kids understand lesson to stand up for themselves but also gave them the choice. Dad was hardcore but did what he the needed to help him.

I loved how when this movie came out, the critics who didn't like it tried saying it didn't capture autism well, and as an autistic guy, i can tell you this movie capture autism perfectly, especially the scene when he's telling anna kendrick's character about what he found in the bored room at 18:50, and he's very talkative and showing his emotions for the first time because he's comfortable with her, then as soon as the other woman walks in, and she leaves, he goes back to his emotionless demeanor

I'm sooo excited they've finally worked on the sequel. Multiple John Wick and Equalizer sequels have come out since the first accountant came out and I was starting to think it wouldn't happen. I can't wait🤗!

36:06 Right or wrong, Dad is trying to ;give survival skill to a son who would otherwise have problems his whole life. Just like in the beginning when he said Bright lights and loud noise scares him, he needs more of that to learn to deal with it. Later we see him using the flashing lights and loud music to keep from reacting negatively to it. He is harsh, but wants his sons to be strong enough to deal with anything that comes their way.

Those were not any comic books. Those were Action Comics #1 which is essentially Superman #1 and the most valuable comic book you can own. Not sure if he is a collector or if those were assets when shit hits the fan.

Great review of one of my Top-10 movies. I honestly believe many us have some level of autism. I obliviously don't know professionally, but I know a fairly large number of people that find social interactions so much harder to do than math, science and analytics. I was one who was fortunate enough to be physically capable, in addiction to my social deficiencies, but I always think about those who did not have that edge to help push through the issues. As a person with autism… I have mixed feelings about this movie. Most of our weird quirks, we do that to calm down. The same hypersensitivity to certain fabrics also makes us not like crowds. If I go to a Starbucks to sit and read, if I forget my headphones… my mind is trying to listen to every conversation in earshot. Since none of them usually apply to me, I disregard what was said. But I’m always listening, and then always analyzing if I need to act (which I almost never do). It’s exhausting.
So while a lot of people treat this as the well-trained dude being a bad-ass, and his super power is autism.
What I see is a father with an autistic kid. The only tool in the father’s toolbox is PsyOps. His job is to break a to person’s mind to force compliance. His job is to torture people. Not the physical person, but their minds. And the kid did pick up some useful skills along the way. But he was still tortured for years by a professional torturer. And when the dad thinks the kid is getting “better”, but really he’s learning not do the things that bother other people.
But… autism hardly ever gets portrayed in a positive light. Accountant by day, assassin by night is… something… I guess. That said, I really liked how, at the end, we find out that his, assistant whom we never see is the really “problematic” girl he met at the one school they tried letting him attend. A lot of autistic people are non-verbal, but she can type a lot.
See what I mean by mixed feelings?
The moral of the story is NOT that autism is his super power. It’s that he was tortured as a child, but also learned how to be a bad-ass.
Wow I totally agree with you guys about Bernthal and Affleck doing a Batman / Punisher movie together with a main theme of violent revenge. And I don't care what anyone says Affleck is / was the best Batman and done right a movie with them both could be mind blowing !!!
“Accountant” the movie is brilliant and meant to entertain the audience, it does! This is why a sequel is doomed. Very few film makers have producers that want to make money from good movies. These production companies wish to manipulate not to entertain. I hope I’m wrong but look at what is happening!
