Thanks Tasha, your "elevator chronicles" are interesting because the very same thing happens to me. I rode the elevators in a few very large towers and was surprised that people exchanged greetings when entering and exiting. They like the feeling that they have shared an experience and greetings with members of the community even though it lasted about two minutes. To me it seems more like the feeling you'd get if you were all passengers on an airplane that safely landed in very bad weather and you were all happy to be alive. But as you point out there is nothing inappropriate about the way anybody looks or behaves. Medellin is a big city with millions of inhabitants but this custom makes me feel that I'm still in a small town; nothing wrong with that. You know, I'm sure it's the same in Switzerland that people in the small towns are friendlier than in large cities.
Child hod pregnancy out of wedlock is how you keep certain types of people & communities broken & poor. As an orphan of Colombia if it wasn't for the love & kindness of my American parents that's exactly what I would have become 😊👍🏼
You forgot another very important reason among Latin, Fifty years ago this July, Pope Paul VI promulgated his encyclical “Humanae Vitae,” which reaffirmed the Catholic Church's traditional prohibition of artificial birth control and set off one of the most divisive debates in modern church history.
A few years ago, I visited Cuba. I noticed how they trim the grass in and around the medians. They don't use weed eater, but rather use the machete.. Just a group of about eight men jumped out of the truck and cut the weeds up this road for about 2 km. They're such hardworking people.. We, in the West are too lazy or feel above doing manual labor. I am quite certain that Switzerland has foreigners doing all "dirty jobs" that the Swiss would rather not do..
One of the reasons they use manual labour instead of modern equipment to do some kind of work, it's that it would not be seen with good eyes to use a one machine for doing the work that could be done by half a dozen workers (specially cleaning, gardening and similar) in a country with high rates of unemployment.
Bread, especially garlic bread is commonly served in restaurants here. The elevator thing always unsettles me when I'm there. I just adapted and now greet everyone and say bye, and have a great day etc. It's part of the game!
...Or watching a group of young men one of them waving a machete chasing a man in San Andres. San Andres is a hot mess. I'll never go back. I understand the state provides birth control. The Catholic Church is powerful and teaches against personal and societal responsibility in the area of birth control.

I once was upset that Colombian youngsters had babies at a young age and are irresponsible at taking care of those children but then I saw the birth rates of Countries like Japan and South Korea ect... and they are not having hardly any children. So Combia is very much alive do to their practices and a young country viva Colombia

For really good Italian food there is Olivia in Laureles and Caduff, which is also in Laureles. Also, in some parts of Italy you definitely get bread with pasta.

I haven't been in Colombia but in the Dominican republic the Italian food is not good, I have to go back to New York City to little Italy to a Italian restaurant to get something good or get invited to Italian family home!
Colombia...its a country of hot women every day and just having them all! Girls just love to start sleeping around young and most have kids before 19. I hardly ever met a girl without a kid who tells me the same of deadbeat dads leaving with off with another woman!

Good points in this video, but incorrect information on the last point. Colombian teenagers know about contraceptives. But many have terrible role models , so they imitate what they see & hear. So I'm wondering.....if the world practiced self control just a bit more, do you believe unplanned pregnancy problem will decrease?
I have never been to an Italian Restaurant in any country and not gotten bread with your pasta and I've been to lots of places. Got it in Germany last year and France. Like your stuff.
There's nothing wrong with having children young, especially for a woman when her peak fertility is between 18-25. It is being responsible and ha ing the resources to have them and adapt as and when. The weird societies are mainly first world societies that to sum up, "want it all" and then want children much too late in life (hence why most of Western Europe is dying faster than reproducing) or want one child only (heavily burdensome on lone chidlren).
Better get use to Colombia, if you’re not use to. Colombia will not change according to your desires, Colombia is third world country. Find it out the difference and adjust accordingly. In other words you are gossiping like typically ordinary people do everywhere in this world
I think you don't get the point of this video. We love Colombia, and we've been living here for over 3 years. If we wouldn't be able to adapt, we wouldn't be able to live here. The point of the "weird things" series is to let people know what to expect when visiting a country like Colombia. :-)
I have seen Expat suffering in Latino countries with so many medical conditions because they are allowing their past to interfare in their present. Subconscious mind plays it's games if we are not mindful.

In Puerto Rico instead of lawnmowers along the highway they had a bunch of guys with weed eaters walking in a line.
