Alright, Kevin. Excellent and thorough review 👍 Thanks for the shoutout and the links 👍 I’ve given quite a long response to your comment on my last video. Cheers, Dave.
You're welcome Dave. I wasn't able to focus on Mac as much as I'd like in this video so I wanted to point viewers to your channel as you've published many great tutorials this year about recording on iPad an Mac. If I do get an iPad air or pro, I'll perhaps do some tests with the 4K X and see how it I come across any limitations at my side. 👍
Fantastic video! Thanks for the overview. I have the following hypothetical scenario: Given a 2-PC streaming setup where my main gaming PC is running a 4K 240Hz monitor (with two additional 4K 60Hz monitors), and I’m using an RTX 4090, would you recommend using OBS’s projector mode on the gaming PC to send a 4K 60Hz feed to a capture card in the streaming PC, like the Elgato 4K X or Elgato 4K Pro? My goal is to capture gameplay on the streaming PC in the highest possible quality for local editing, while also being able to stream to RUclips at 1440p 60fps. Or would you suggest a different approach, such as display cloning or another setup, to maintain optimal gaming performance and high-quality streaming?
Thank you Kalkydra. With the 4K X, for example, the supported resolutions and frame rates can be seen at help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/23479175821069-Elgato-Game-Capture-4K-X-Supported-Resolutions-and-Frame-Rates. For 1440p 60FPS, you could play on your gaming PC at 4K at 144, 120 or 60 FPS (basically anything up to 144 FPS). You could also play at 1440p at 240 FPS. So you'd use a good HDMI cable to go from the 4090 to the HDMI in on the 4K X. Then HDMI out on the 4K X to your monitor. With the 4K Pro, the supported resolutions and frame rates can be seen at help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/23479165158029-Elgato-Game-Capture-4K-Pro-Supported-Resolutions-and-Frame-Rates. If you record at 1440p 60 FPS, you could play games at 8K60, 1440p144, 1440p60. 👍
can the capture card be used without plugging in a monitor for pass through? (cuz i want to capture footage from my laptop and i dont have spare monitor) sorry if u mentioned this in vid, im just at beginning so far
@zajlord2930 you're welcome. Generally speaking, you'll want to connect a monitor when gaming so you aren't playing games through the recording software. It's not absolutely necessary though as apps like OBS let you make the input source (e.g. Your game) go full screen. I tend not to connect an output when recording from my cameras, but it is something that can be useful as it lets you monitor your feed.
@DazTheTerrible4K Hope it works out better for you. I never had any issues with the Mk2 myself. I am going to sell it, but only because I now have the newer version and don't need it anymore. Let me know how you get on with the new card.
@@KevinMuldoon thank you for your help I got a new pretty decent pc a NVIDIA GTX 4060 intel 12th generation so probably just my obs settings but will let you know 👍🏻
When i upload 4k gameplay videos on youtube. PS5 or PC gameplay quality is not good What would be a better capture card for me in which it has the best quality. 4K X or 4K Pro tell me which one should i buy 🤔
There isn't a massive difference in quality between the two if they are using the same resolution and frame rates for capture and output. You'd struggle to tell the difference, if any even exist.

Connecting a monitor is optional. If you're connecting a camera, you could just monitor the footage through your recording software.
@@KevinMuldoon awesome, thanks a lot (i was just worried my laptop wouldnt recognize it as an output)

Thanks for this I’m thinking of upgrading my 4k pro mk2 to a 4k x
You're welcome. Hope you found it useful.
@@KevinMuldoon yes 100% my 4k mk2 had some stuttering on Obs and the recordings were dark on the 4k capture utility hope the 4k x improves this 👍🏻
@DazTheTerrible4K Stuttering tends to be caused by recording settings and the computer recording etc, not the capture card.
@DazTheTerrible4K Hope it works out better for you.

@@KevinMuldoon ok then i buy 4K X thanks for reply 😀
@jackgaming2266 the 4K X is more flexible as you can use it with an iPad, laptop and desktop. Mac and windows too. 👍
Bro reply which is best 4k real quality same as ps5 which I buy for 4k recoding
There isn't any real noticeable difference if you're capturing and outputting at the same resolution and frame rate on both devices.
