    These episodes are pure gold! A few things come across:
    The waste of resources i.e. almost new cars, due to high repair costs is crazy! How can it be ecologically viable to produce a product that is so difficult to get back on the road after relatively minor damage/issues?
    The presentation/speaking style of this chap is excellent, calm, knowledgeable, easy to listen too!
    I feel there are going to be places like this evolving all over the planet as EVs become more mainstream.
    Overall a great series, well made and typical of the high-end RUclips content that is making TV viewing irrelevant.

      @ksamos 5 лет назад

      Bricked means that the computer is locked up, non functional, or just dead. This is more of a technical glitch issue. Any computer can brick...cell phones, tablets, PC. Sometimes you can bring it back to life, other times you can not.

      The MCU can be bricked and/or the battery. Sometimes, allowing the battery to go to 0% SOC for extended period of time will brick the battery. Can't be brought back. Bricking means it has the same value and utility as a literal " brick." That being nothing.

    Dear Gruber Motor Company, my 2015 Model S is almost 4 years old. I too look forward to buying your failed eMMc fix when mine dies (these can fail anytime after the 4 year warranty expires by all accounts). As you would know Tesla do not repair the computer this log message recording chip resides in or even sell the daughter board the chip is mounted on, instead I'll be up for a whole new computer and 19" touch screen which won't be cheap assuming they are even available at that point. Just replacing the chip is not too hard but I assume some data has to be written to that IC before it will work in the car and that is way more than I'd like to attempt (I have no clue what data needs to be preserved on the replacement chip nor do I relish having to build a chip programmer for what hopefully would be just a single use). More power to you sir.

    • @dogphlap6749
      @dogphlap6749 5 лет назад +1

      @@fatboy19831 I had assumed current vehicles would not have this problem waiting to bite them 4+ years down the track. If Tesla has not addressed this problem yet that is pretty bad. Every body makes a few mistakes when designing something as complex as a motor vehicle (the awful design of the original Model S door handle mechanism and the electo-etching of the traction motor balls within the rotor shaft ball bearings (something which I recently learned was a solved problem thirty years ago in the variable speed motor controller world (think elevator/lift motors)) spring to mind. Tesla must be fully aware of the death of these log message storing chips, hard to believe this problem is still there. If nothing else Tesla would be opening themselves up to a class action law suite from a million Model 3 etc owners around 2025 if it is ignored and the fix could be as trivial as just not recording every log message (linux generates of lot of those).

    • @fatboy19831
      @fatboy19831 5 лет назад

      @@dogphlap6749 From the outside looking in it seems like a very straight forward solution. Hopefully, the 3 cost less than $2200 to repair. I would like to believe that the Y and every car forward would have a solution. If not this may just be a payday for Tesla. It won't happen under warranty for the most part. It is a pure profit repair. By the time this happens to me there should be a far cheaper aftermarket solution.

      I suspect there will be a class action when all these Model 3s start failing. Tesla will lose knowing full well that it could have been prevented and yet did nothing about it. At any rate, third party shops will replace them for you and are working on a better solution.

      They do that because Tesla would otherwise replace the entire board (or the MCU). And that's way too costly. Ideally, Tesla shoul'dve come up with a way to lower the amount of logs being written to the memory chips. If they were to do that the chips would last way longer.

      Very few cars can go through a few inches of water. Toyota is the worst. Many many Toyota’s are bottom feeders. Especially 2000 to 2009 cars. You should not drive any car through more than 3 inches of water ( at speed). A lot of Cuvs don’t do much better. It is a car not a boat.
