You know it Twon!! That’s how NoLimitNation Rolls!! My boy! ✊❤️💯👊
Lol 😆
Strangled by the wishes of pater = Having an overbearing father with high expectations. Hoping for the arms of mater = longing for love from the mother who left. It’s such a sad and beautiful song. 💔
She left when he was only 3 years old,sad for him.
Such a beautiful song it really makes u look deep inside your own past. His voice is so soulful he sounds the same to this day.
@@Whateva67 I did not know that. Thanks.
Mathilda; Thanks so much, was just getting ready to.look those up because I wasnt sure exactly what he was referring too! Nice job!!
Thankyou for this....i always wanted to know what it meant....🥰
They don’t make songs like this anymore. A true 80s classic. ❤️
Omg you are going to love this 🔥 yep that ginger is singing this ! His mother left him when he was 3. He wrote this at 15. Sad true story
🤠 way to go north Cali Diane ♥ great song 😢
@@dianegoldeneye7207 He is English from Manchester
@@sloot69x yes 👍🏻. My bad.
He's from Manchester England.
He was 17 yo when he wrote the song 💞
Their cover of If you don’t know me by now is fantastic
Rope Burn yes it is!!!
Agree
To me..it's the best
"Their" ?
@@Isleofskye google says simply red is a band
Simply Red - "If You Don't Know Me By Now"
Yes!
Yessss!
His mother abandoned him as a very young child & he always held out hope that she would return & develop a relationship with him, but she never did. He wasted years & tears wishing for a relationship with his mother that never came. Very, very sad.
@@missingreagan5746 Wow! That's dark, but sometimes unfortunately it's true.
He met her, after he was famous, and she got in touch. She was living in the USA,and had abandoned another husband, and 2 children. She pretended,to Mick, that she had cancer. After that,he understood that his dad had tried to protect him, from the hurt.He didn’t want anything to do,with her, after that.
@@missingreagan5746 she was a messed up lady
@@missingreagan5746 Nah - she abandoned another husband and children and pretended to have cancer when she met him.
Mick Hucknall is not just a great vocalist, but also an author of all his songs. Thank you!
Totally agree! Saw them live in Italy during the Blue Eyed Soul Tour, wonderful experience.
He is not. He has a cover of Gregory Isaacs Night Nurse. Huge hit as well, but I'm aware why you all skip over this one
Watching young people discover the music of MY youth/teenage years always earns them a subscriber in me. Yeah, I get it... music continues to evolve. Nothing wrong with that. But these classics are timeless, and it's good to see younger people learning about them, and the meaning they had to us in our youth. It helps bridge the generation gap.
Well said.😁
He sings this live pitch perfect even better than this recorded version. A master at his craft.
80s hair was very expressive and usually big.
Simply Red (Mick Hucknall) is from Manchester, England. He's got that soulfulness that is infectious. Still singin' his heart out today too!
Love this little brother. At 66 the music of my time still touches the young of today. I stand by what I've always said we had the best music. No auto tune just great story tellers. GOD bless you on your journey .
66? No youngsters in here, please Don... :)
Totally Agree
Simply Red is one of the most soulful groups of the 80s. They had a lot of great songs, including 'Money's Too Tight To Mention.'
Vocals are Mick Hucknall and trumpet is played by Tim Kellett. Kellett played with Simply Red for about six years in the mid 80s. This group from the UK was very talented and known for their “soul”. ❤️
A true masterpiece, they don’t make music like they used to
Listen, I was born January 19 70 so I grew up listening to simply red one of my favorite bands of all time. he is sheer genius
Mick Hucknall, one of the purest voices of the ‘80’s
its amazing how young these artists were so talented at such a young age.
One of my fave smooth jams ever. His voice is amazing. Nobody like him.
He is one of my favorite singers. This guy can sing pure talent.
I love having you young Black people visiting the music from my past . It actually is very touching. We were once very cool. 😎
Simply Red is an amazing artist, and adored by many. You should check out his other big hit " If You Don't Know Me By Now" you will love it, I guarantee it. .
From Aotearoa New Zealand, thankyou Twon for your reaction, I cried knowing the story behind the songs he writes, His story breaks my heart. I'm a grandmother and I wish I could give the boy a hug😢!!!
It’s a trumpet of course but it has a mute in it and that’s why it has such a unique sound.
Now you need to watch a live performance to see how supremely talented Mick Hucknall is, e.g. at The Montreaux Jazz Festival, he nails it every time, even now at 60 years of age
He’s from Manchester England. The Blue eyed soul boy. Saw him a few days ago here in Brighton England, his voice is the same 👌🏻
This is one of my favorite songs of all time I was a child when it came out but my Dad was a huge fan of Simply Red so he played their music all the time
Such a great reaction
Love your channel ♥️
Thank you erika ❤️
@@NLTwon 😊 yw
This group is from England British and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever and ever. Don't ever judge a book by it's cover because this guy has a voice that's unbelievable just like the line...
Holding Back The Years thinking of the fear I've had for so long when somebody hears listen to The Fear that's gone. FABULOUS
As this is set in the seaside can you say, tracey littorally, that we can not literally judge a literary book about the seaside by its cover? :)
I have to add, this comment, your interrupting, this song, every, few seconds did not show much respect for this beautiful. Sorry just have to be hones. Respect your show.
Hi Mick used to live round the corner from me, and I worked with his cousin too. He has the most outstanding voice and he's got the same broad Northern accent as me too !!!! Stay safe from Manchester UK xxx
Simply Red ❣️❣️❣️
He has always reached my soul with his tone
Can't explain it...just this song ‼️💯
I’m probably not your usual subscriber, I’m a 65 year old gran from the U.K. but I love to watch your reaction to music I listened to when I was your age. Excellent channel.
Simply Red is and always will be an amazing voice
I went to see Mick about 3 or 4 years back. He's nearly 60 now, and he still sounds as good as any recording he ever made. He is a national treasure for us folks over here.
Those shots of him remembering his traumas and then clutching/shaking his hand always get to me. You can hear the pain and frustration in his voice. Goes straight to my heart. 💔
Another song by Simply Red is Sunrise. They sample Hall and Oates I Can't Go For That on the track!
I LOVE sunrise!
The live version in Australia a couple years back was incredible.
If you want to be blown away, listen to “If you don’t know me by now “ and “Stars”
i love both of them especially Stars
And there it is....one of the greatest singing voices.
This song is truly such an 80’s vibe 😎 his voice 🙌🏻 amazing
Saw these guys live at Toronto Canadian National Exhibition Grand Stand with the Blow Monkeys and headliner the Psycadelic Furs. Front row party!!
Great memories.☺
The singer is Mick Hucknall, he's from Denton, Manchester, England.
Simply Red "If you don't know me by now"...
Man oh man oh man I love when you have to go back and hear it again.
I love the saxaphone, that is a trumpet both are amazing
Mick was born in Manchester England. He has so many hits and live he is great !
IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME BY NOW. Is another great song by SIMPLY RED
Such a DEEEP song. Great vocal performance by Simply Red. A 'unique' voice.
HE DOES HAVE SOUL IN HIM,,,,A GREAT REACTION
As one comment puts it: this song isn't about not giving up, but rather, giving up the hope things will get better. All that's left is to keep holding on
Man he so much soul. I believe he is from Manchester, England. His cover song,
If You Don’t Know Me By Now ✌️🤘🏻
If you haven't heard these two yet you should also do his songs if you don't know me by now and money's too tight.
I've seen Simply Red 3 times absolutely superb live and a truly great voice
Great choice. One of those songs that just takes it there
I remember an interview with him where they asked about his hair style, he touched it and smiled and said it's kinda like anarchy isn't it?
Reminds me of my grandma from Santa Monica. We named our grandparents after the city they lived in. He wrote this about his Mum and because of the neglect she left on him.. beautiful song..."nothing had the chance to be good, cause nothing ever could"
I have to thank you for this video - I've re-discovered one of the most beautiful, soulful, melancholy songs of my youth in the 80's thanks to you.
They are a English band , this was filmed in England in Whitby where bran stoker wrote Dracula.
I remember laying on the beach chillin' many moons ago to this!
God.... I Have Loved This Song For About 35 Years...... I Describe It “Tragically, Beautiful” Based On Truth- 💔 Keep Holding On! Mother Left Him As A Child With Overbearing Father. Hauntingly - I’m Captivated By This Song 🔥🔥🔥
Man Simply Red is 🔥, pure music
He British, born in Manchester uk
His name is Mick Hucknall.
The band is called simply Red
LOVE THIS SONG ❤ BEAUTIFUL ❤
Awesome reaction! Love this song!
Simply Red another Legi’!!
So glad I was there to experience all the great music like this that came out in the 80s. This is a classic
Ahh, the 80’s. I remember this song so well.
Precious reaction to an oldie but goodie! Thank you....good theme song for this life.
If you don't know me by now. I think that was his best song. He's from the UK. Loved him!!!
You’ve picked a perfect British 80s Band, one of the best singers ever! ❤️🇬🇧
A dedication to my kids when I had to leave for some time because of their father, it will always make me shed so many tears.... Even though I can't rewind time I'm with them again just now I'm older they are older and alit has changed just wish I could hold them more so tight before my time is done.......
But until then I'll keep holding on so tight...
By the way this song was about his mom.... This is why I'm touched by this song..
Sadly his situation did not end as it did for your kids. His mother was a wrong un from what he has spoken of about her. He dedicated a song to his father for bringing him up on his own and sadly he never got re-married. Glad your and your kids got a happy ending. Every situation is different. Life is complicated.
I love “A new flame(has come),especially the official video.
He still sings it now. He is great....simply Red
Love this classic piece, thanks for sharing 😊
Oh man! It’s so nice to watch you, just enjoining music - no matter what genre, decade or colour! It’s the magic of music that brings us together-like me a 40 year old woman from Vienna, austria (Europe- not Australia 😉) and an much younger u.s.-dude who normally would have nothing in common! ♥️
You're so adorable! It should be "so many things" or "so much stuff." I love that you tried to correct it. 🙂 Love your reactions and your channel. Keep it up! 👍🏻
Hey, Twon. Mick's accent is pure 'Manc' Manchester England! Love ya channel!! X
Briton, British singer and still wonderful 👍❤️
I'm a 61 yo female that loves to see your bright beautiful face and attitude. I appreciate your work. Simply Red is one of my favorite bands. ty
Then you love jazz and blues if you like this band and instruments. They have had so many wonderful albums full of covers and orginals.
61 ?? No youngsters here, please, Leslie ...
Thank you for pulling up the lyrics.. to understand the song.
I have great respect for that.
It's a deep song.. full of metaphors and detailed lyrics.
Such a classy & beautiful song!!
You must listen all their albums, specially from 1985 to 1992 including their live performance in Montreux and the live tour of the "Stars" album. You gonna be touched by many of the greatest song composed on those years.
Simply Great ❣️❣️❣️🤗
Might be one of the best songs ever and voice!
This song is deep...very touching
Thanks for your sincere review. You got me to play the song now!
Irish, Scottish or English. He can sing and play that horn 🔥
Mick Hucknall is English. He sings.
Hes English
Before Ed Sheeran there was this dude, nice reaction pick! Very soulful, hard to find that in many mainstream artists today. I recommend a reaction to 80s groups called ABC - Be Near Me, and Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me with Science. These are more of a pop sound but very catchy and interesting music beats n arrangements
I have always loved Simply Red and this song. Thank you for reacting to it.😀❤️
A Must: If You Don’t Know Me By Now
One of my favorite recordings. His voice is haunting and the trumpet was super silk smooth. Keep up the good work.
You will love this and I have to say. Loving your look today. The hair the shirt everything is on Point❤❤❤❤
Such a sad and heartbreaking song but so beautiful! His soulful voice is incredible and it’s one of my favorites ♥️
I believe he's from Great Britain. Very soulful.
Watch him do this LIVE. He’s nails it every....time. In fact....he’s getting better.
This reminds me...he should do some Erasure! Andy also still sounds AMAZING live. Last I saw a few years back, anyway.
Check out Steve Winwood "Higher Love" "The finer things" "Back in the high life again" "Night Train" "While you see a chance" "Valerie" "Talking back to the night" "Split decision" "Still in the game" "There's a river' 'One and only man" "I will be here"
Classic song.
Simply Red......simply brilliant....🙂.
He was a smooth, mellow and talented guy!! I really miss the music of the 80s! It was some of the best times for music!
Oh my God beutifull soulful anjelic heartfelt smooth flowing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😊 that's all I have to say
Pater meaning Father, Mater meaning Mother, it was about his parents and his Mother leaving his Father at age 3, he was literally a child alone pining for his Mother
He has an amazing voice!!!
Classic! Takes me back to my youth
