      i totally agree with your point people saw the success of stardew valley and animal crossing and have just been releasing there own versions of it. Pokemon is still sticking with the same old format becuase they know they can shovel garbage in our faces and the fanboys will eat it up. they dont need to take risks becuase they dont NEED to. Palworld i think happened at the right time that nintendo and other companies will see this game and say "huh if this is THAT popular lets try that to" and now we will see a ton of knock off clones of palworld / pokemon in the coming years as the trend always goes people riding the coattails of successful games. but i dont see nintendo ever changing there ways there to successful with a loyal fanbase that will eat up anything shoveled at them. SW/SH /Scar/Viol to give examples and when they did innovate with arceus they saw we loved it and saved it in there back pocket to probaly retry later with a "were listening" to make bookoo bucks as greedy companies do. I just believe the stagnation is self inflicted becuase of how much we want change and how much companies only see dollars and are telling us "No"

    for me a game like zelda botw is a cozy game. walking around in the serene world with nature sounds and subtle music notes, exploring different locations, and collecting resources like chasing stars or opening chests is super chill. the quiet does get broken up by the camp fights and other mobs like lynals but its nvr so hard and its a part of the natural play that it doesnt ruin how calming the game is. i do however have one gripe that extends to multiple games; generic mob combat music is tiresome. i wish there was an option to turn it off cuz when im mindlessly wiping out mobs i dont want the good in game music im vibing to be interrupted. something i would like is to have the normal music not stop but add a layer of like a subtle battle beat, similar to pokemon bw2 where walking added a little marching drum.
    palworld does that for me as botw did. its nice to explore and build up the bases while hanging with your pals (both irl and in game), tho the battles on hard mode are anything but chill.

    Most farming game are similar but there is one farming title tried to be different. Rune factory, farming + fantasy + combat. Wasn't really my cup of coffe but it was popular enough to have its own franchise. Start at NDS era and i think i saw a title for switch some time ago

    Rune Factory. Did no one play that? It’s a spin off of Harvest Moon (aka Farmville with romance storylines), but with crafting and dungeons and fighting. Rune Factory is freaking awesome, and the animals you tame can help you fight or give you crafting items. Palworld isn’t the first to do this.

    Great video! I agree that Animal Crossing brought a lot of new players into gaming overall and that Stardew inspo from the old Harvest Moon did really well but also ConcernedApe's determination and efforts to make Stardew better is why the game is also so popular and is the "standard" now. I am tired of the same farming formula and while I don't mind somewhat playing similar farming games, I do want more new stuff. I would argue that Cozy Games have another huge issue other than the same formula going on. Most Cozy Games are going in EA and then fully launching with still a roadmap which is now a gaming industry issue and not just Indie
    I also look at Palworld from the perspective that the Devs combined popular genres into one game such as monster collecting and survival which clearly did very well but I have also seen a lot of Pkmn fans who are playing Palworld never cared for survival games so the fact that the Devs made survival fun in Palworld is amazing.
    However, I don't agree with the title. I am in a few content creators that have labelled themselves as cozy who are playing Palworld and they love it but I am also in some where they won't touch Palworld because of the controversies circulating it. I tried to recommend this game on the Cozy Subreddit and was DOWN VOTED and had people replying to me that it has AI which is once again not proven. Overall what Palworld has done is amazing but from the popularity side, I think it's one of those games where it becomes such a massive hit that it's going to get shoved in your face no matter what community of games you're from. Similar to Genshin, Botw/Totk, BG3, Among Us which we do need games that becomes massive hits but I don't think Palworld killed Cozy Games when the community has been having issues prior just like how people have issues with Gamefreak.
    I would like more videos like this though. I think you made very good points and I want to see more videos talking about the issues the Cozy Games have asides copying the same formula if that is something you're interested in! 💖

    My first cozy game was Disney's Pixie Hollow, where you flew around as a fairy and collected stuff to buy clothes/furniture. They had unique, annual events that made me appreciate the different seasons and I loved a lot of the mini games. But then Disney killed it. So my next cozy game was Free Realms, where I could run around and explore a large map and do all kinds of quests. But then they added more combat, making it stressful. And then the creators of the game killed it. So I moved on to Star Stable Online, where you ride around on a horse doing quests and training your horses. But then the company stopped fixing bugs and the cozy vibes became bitter.
    Actually, most RPG games are cozy for me, as I use them to zone out and destress. Sometimes I just want to hit things with a sword, okay? I can't do it in real life, that'd be awful, but I can in a game world. It's almost the same as screaming into your pillow or breaking plates in anger.

    If palworld was more sword and bow and didn't have such a jarring dissonance between the world and characters I'd probably play it. It reminds me a ton of OG RuneFactory with how the creatures help out around your base.

    I'm a cozy gamer who will never play palworld, I dislike high stress games. However, I am already over Stardew Valley copies. I won't play Fae farm and lost interest in Coral island. Disney Dreamlight Valley is an awesome case study in innovating cozy games. Questing, friendship rewards, photo contest, decorating, multi-player, puzzles, farming, variety of character customization, and main/character storylines. It's definitely different and very cozy.

      The game isn't stressful at all. ^^; It's actually fairly relaxing outside of some of the highest level pals and the tower bosses. And once you outlevel the first 2 bosses they're really easy to kill a well. And all of the high level stuff is pretty much optional unless you really want those pals.

      If you pick custom when making a new world, you can turn off raids, stop buildings to deteriorate outside the base area and lower egg hatching times to instant.
      It IS possible to go to max level by only hatching eggs, you only need to unlock the incubation capsules and the ranch and you can breed + farm materials only and never fight. (though you do need at least 1 purple technical point to unlock the incubator but the lowest world boss is lv 11 so it's not too hard to kill) :)

    7:28 "sending out for little mission"
    actually they did, in Sword&Shield and Sun&Moon, but pretty bare bones.
    Sword&Shield is just a short cutscene, trainer waves his hand and pokemons head for the "Job" collect money or consumable items.
    Sun&Moon is watching pokemons pixel icon jump around on a island collecting items or training EV their own.
    And ...after order proceed, the "Little mission" takes 12~24 real time hours, cancel it lost all the progress, completely the anti meaning of Cozy.

      I did miss those specific games tbf, but could you do any kind of base building with them? That's the big thing for me... These worlds in Pokemon now are so big but with so much empty space. Would be really fun to see them give us some other things to do

    • @saffron97
      @saffron97 4 месяца назад +1

      @@CrossingMinute Base building is locked into the older games of RSE DPP and their remakes. Sun and moon was send your pokemon out for several hours at a time and they would bring back items like evo stones, vitamins, shards, held items and berries, while neat most people probably got little out of them due to long mobile game like timers.

    • @SunshineCasy

      @@CrossingMinute Totally agree. I just thought it was ironic that was the example. In fact it kind of shows that Pokemon has experimented with a lot of the features people really want even before they got popular (like base building, but that was early 2000's) but for some reason didn't commit to them. Hopefully they do more games like Legends Arceus which actually did take a risk. Can't wait to try Palworld.

    Great Video Dan 👍🏻. Like to see more of it. 😃 I love the video games without combat a lot and will always play them 😍. But I found my way to Palworld too and can say, I like it a lot. But I always switch the games. Today I started a completely new town in Stardew Valley and played 3 hours that flew by. But Palworld is such a good way to have combat and cozy gameplay together and the pals are cute. 😍 depends on my mood. A few month ago I stick to one game till I finished it (besides ACNH). But now I became more flexible 😄😂

AC and Subnautica had me building and exploring - with AC it has me exploring my creativity while collecting!The building genre, in general is about the creativity you bring to the environment you're in. You can't get that in WoW or any fps game for that matter. Haven't played Palworld yet and may never, not sure I want both. I play cozy games for just that, just cozy, with little stress. Lots of people beat everything and moves on, which is fine after all its not a game as a service style game, its just how most games are. The real question is was it just a trend, due to people still talking about it I would say, maybe? We have to see if it is still talked about at the end of the year.

    I tend to play a variety of game categories (cozy, RGP, puzzle, casual, Simulator, dungeon etc). its definitely appreciated for game companies to be original and give us something different, but I also think its good mentally for us gamers to branch out a little and try new types of games. i have surprised myself a few times by just trying something different. Palworld and Enshrouded are examples of survival games i am currently playing, and thats not a genre of game i played previously. Which is why i think streamers are so valuable, we are not only super entertained, but you introduce us to games we either did know about, or saw but didnt realize how fun it was until you played it.

    i don’t exactly share the same opinion as you but i like seeing this style of video essays as well and would love to see more in the future! i’ve not played palworld myself but from the footage it reminds me of pokemon legends arceus, i did a double take when i saw the pal(?) storage/sorting interface. legends arceus despite not being part of the mainline series, was imo a really refreshing take that gamefreak had.
    for me whenever i get bored/burnt-out with acnh/sdv i’d switch to playing the don’t starve series, it has the right amount of combat & base-building that still falls under the “cozy” category for me but is still somewhat exciting, and playing co-op with strangers in don’t starve together brings me a different kind of joy than say, playing co-op with friends in sdv. then a few months later i’ll be reminded of acnh/sdv again 😂 i find myself often just cycling through these games, instead of getting the new stuff.

    I think the biggest reason is because of choice. People severely underestimate how much player choice MATTERS to a lot of gamers.
    Palworld lets you CHOOSE when you want to sit back and play cozily, or be a violent psychopath. Games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Vally don't. Sure, you can make some pretty messed up things in them, but the intention is always to be wholesome.
    Palworld lets you do both, and leaves you to decide what you want to be.

    This right here. The thing is, Gamefreak kinda did that. In Sun and Moon, you could take Pokemon from your boxes and send them to the Pokepelago Islands, where theyd play, earn xp, gather items, level up, etc. It wasnt Palworld, but it was doing SOMETHING different. And then right on cue, very next game, that feature is scrapped.
    Gamefreak is notorious of trading features in and out of games, throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if itll stick. Hopefully NOW (after S/V and now Palworlds explosion) theyll get their heads in the game and do the next games right and STOP REMOVING FEATURES.

      I grew up on Harvest Moon (the series was core inspiration for Stardew). Rune Factory very quickly became a favorite series as well. I love most survival games, but can't handle the stress that seems baked into the vanilla experience of things like Ark and The Forrest. Survival genere games seem to have a huge "must be grim and gritty" bias. Palworld manages to have all the survival mechanics, while including just enough softness and comedy, and base model customization, to have an enjoyable experience.

    I am a fan of Pokemon and farming style games but I’m not a fan of Pal World despite it looking like something that I would enjoy.
    The reason is partly because I’m not a fan of survival crafting games like ARC: Survival Evolved, and partly because I don’t like how explicit it is with “pal cruelty” (for a lack of a better term) with corpses of the pals you kill, able to turn your own pals into meat, being able to make your pals suffer as they work, makes it feel like it’s a game PETA created.
    But I would probably enjoy a Pal World style game if there was less “you kill, enslave, and abuse innocent wildlife”, like if Dragon Quest had a game that was a mix of Dragon Quest Builders and Dragon Quest Monsters with added farming.

    • @Mousse9
      @Mousse9 4 месяца назад

      The thing is, you don’t HAVE to do those things. I’ve just started the game, and my pals work for me, but they have indoor beds, a hot tub, lots of food, and I’ve never slaughtered any of them. Don’t even have the meatcleaver you need for it.
      It’s up to the player how bad the pals are treated.
      Can’t do anything about the survival crafting though, that’s the nature of the game.

    • @typemasters2871
      @typemasters2871 4 месяца назад

      @@Mousse9 true, the main reason I don’t play Pal World is because of the Survival Crafting being similar to other generic survival crafting games, but the internet’s depiction of the game as “turn these creatures into slaves that you can slaughter if they complain too much” does make the game appear like it’s an anti-animal abuse PETA game.

    • @CrossingMinute
      @CrossingMinute  4 месяца назад

      Yeah as someone else said, it's really up to the player when it comes to HOW the pals are treated. TBF, and this is just my opinion, Pokemon doesn't feel too different to me in that respect. You capture innocent creators in the woods that are just minding their own business, and then they either sit inside your storage forever, or you train them to fight. That's pretty much it... In later games you can eat sandwiches with them or whatever I guess. So I dunno. If we're gonna call out games for being "cruel" to creatures, I would say all "creature collecting" games share that blame.
      But also it's a video game. I like GTA as well but it's not going to result in me running around and stealing cars IRL.

    You do realize that Stardew Valley is just a indy reimagining of another Nintendo Cozy Game that predates even Animal Crossing?
    Look up Harvest Moon.
    As for Palworld? It didn't kill Cozy games in the slightest.
    Welcome to the Survival/Crafting Genre. Palworld stands with the likes of Minecraft, Terraria, Starbound, ARK Survival Evolved, Subnautica, RUST, and many more. If you liked Palworld, give some of those a try. (I personally recommend Terraria and Subnautica.)
    There's room enough for you to enjoy both genre types. Get your adrenaline rush fix with close calls, managing your bars, dealing with environmental changes, having your base raided, and dealing with a world that IS trying to kill you. You're not paranoid, they really ARE coming for your head.
    When the rush clears and you get hit with the dump drop, settle back and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere with your cozy games while your body readjusts to the fact it's not really under threat.

Another cozy game imo is a free game called Holocure, you don't need to do much in the game and just relax unless you are after their achievements lol

    I don't think these are even in the same genre, so...like, I don't understand how you think they're comparable? Survival games are almost the antithesis of cozy games. They're two very different genres. That's like saying 'battle royal games killed JRPGs.' No? Neither of those have anything to do with one another? It's nice that you like this better, but I think it's a bit of a stretch to claim it 'kills cozy games' in any way. Especially since the majority of those who do enjoy the cozy game genre play it because they like the generic premise in the first place. Me, personally, I don't get tired of inheriting farms/repetative systems.

    • @CrossingMinute
      @CrossingMinute  4 месяца назад

      All fair points. The reason Palworld in particular is comparable to me is because of the adorable creatures and base building/decorating mechanics. I could have called this out more in the video of course, but it feels a bit like Palworld wanted to capture a bit of the "cozy" market with some of the things they've added to the game.
      Anyhow I don't think you're wrong here. I think it's just a matter of gaming backgrounds and how these different genres have influenced each other, from my perspective.
