I haven’t played Palworld at all and that’s why I can’t say much about Palworld.
The designs of course are inspired.
With how many Pokémon there are it’s obvious there is overlap.
Many Pokémon themselves are based on animals, monsters, Yo Kai.
Like how Dunsparce and Noko are based on the same Yo Kai.
I know it’s not a Pal World example, but still both are very similar, since it’s the same source material essentially where you can’t change much about it.
Also one thing which I noticed when making a few Pokémon myself a few years ago is that some of my own have slight resemblance to existing Pokémon. Of course it was only unintentional, but when you make something of your own then you combine ideas of your head. And if Pal World truly would have stolen it then Nintendo would have torn them asunder already and did more in a short time.
We know know how they protect their IP.

    • @dilo19000

I feel that too many people are focused on all of those rather than the actual issue that Palworld may face, which isn't "oh the designs look like Pokemon's style, that it's a monster capture game." or anything like that. The only real concern that there even is for Palworld is if Pokemon assets were actually used in the creation of the Pals models. Which as far as I'm aware seems like there are at least some models that may have been modified from official Pokemon content (or at the very least some of the comparisons seem compelling to me as someone who works with 3d models frequently).
I know people have dismissed those kinds of things for scaling and things, but those are extremely easy to do in 3d software. I also understand that one person was doing comparisons in bad faith, but from what I've seen others have been able to find model similarities in Pals as well. Notably I recall a Serperior-like Pal who, once the bones of the model (which are used in animating a model) are lined up with Serperior's bones (as it seems to have been slightly shrunk or stretched, can't immediately recall which), not only did the body have the same number of bones, but the vertices (the points that actually make up the visual part of the model) seemed to line up very well outside of a very minor difference which would be difficult to replicate on accident. The comparison was shown off by themimegogo on twitter (status 1750591419469959665 if you wish to take a look)
I think that regardless the best thing Palworld could do is probably get the most concerning Pals they have remodeled to avoid potential issues. I don't want to see Palworld go down, in fact the exact opposite, and the way to reach that exact opposite is ensure that there cannot under any circumstances be hit for anything like this.

@@YokomichiSilver I stated exactly who i was talking about, The models shown by the other person were similar but not close enough to what the example I gave was, though some details were suspiciously similar. I've not seen what the person admitted to lying or changing to fit the narrative so I can't fully comment on it from a modeler's perspective. (I recall something about model scaling being brought up, but depending on what is meant by that the discussion can go two drastically different ways)
Again, It's more of concerns *for* Palworld I have, rather than being against Palworld as the person you're talking about was. If what was said about Palworld's modeler was correct (being a first time model maker and not 100% sure what the workflow should be) then I could see how they might have used the models as a base due to said inexperience. It's how I learned to model (modding games by modifying the models within them).
The concern also goes the other way in my opinion, if Palworld is found to have modified official Pokemon assets, and nothing is done because of it, then nothing would stop someone from say, taking the models from Palworld, changing them up a bit, and using them in their own game.
Not saying that I know 100% for sure that this is the case on the origin of Palworld models, I'm just stating that i personally wouldn't be surprised to learn that there was at least some usage within the existing models.

Now, of course Palworld is mimicking Pokemon artstyle for its creatures and of course some of them are meant to be inspired or a parody of existing mons (like Anubis with Lucario), but from here to say that Game Freak has the trademark on sheep, wolves and sea serpents is just grasping at straws...
Not to mention that Pokemon too had very clear inspiration and references in its designs to things like Godzilla and Dragon Quest, yet you don't see an angry mob against Psyduck and Baxcalibur...

-The bad outcome would be Palworld staying within a fanbase bubble, no merch deals being made. Nintendo, seeing that Palworld isn't going to effect their merch sales, stagnates again. Maybe some tweaks to their new pokemon games, but with the same crumby quality.

Agreed with basically everything *except* the coverage of Byofrog's posts on Twitter. That's not about similar design elements or whatever, it's not really in question that Palword has drawn inspiration from Pokemon and that's fine. But Byofrog's posts seem to suggest there's a decent chance that the Palword *models* were made using ripped Pokemon models as a base.
They show videos comparing the meshes of several Pokemon models and their "counterparts", and most frequently the central body parts are very closely aligned with additional features being added on top. Not impossible to happen accidentally, but to occur repeatedly to high degrees of accuracy?
If Palworld have used the Pokemon models in this way, it'd be akin to tracing over and editing someone else's artwork, and is the only point Pokemon could really get them on. It's still plagiarism even if plagiarising from a rich asshole, assuming that is what happened - it'd take people with more experience with modelling than me to prove or disprove that. I just think those posts are probably the only plausible part of this this and deserve more scrutiny than a vague reference and an ad-hominem attack on them because they don't like animal abuse, which isn't really relevant.

Also the parts of the shorts where it's all floofy is a rather big reach "see it's the same even though they look different but the idea of both characters having it makes it the same" has been the numerous attempts many have made in order to claim that certain pals are ripping off pokemon which has been debunked multiple times.

Heck the tail is wrong and even the fluff on the legs are wrong as well. You and many others have been reaching so hard that you've been taking the smallest of details while trying to come up with a cause that they stole designs from Pokemon.
Do you have any idea how Nintendo operates fair use in Japan where both of these companies come from? It doesn't exist meaning Nintendo by all means could have struck down Palworld if they really were using their designs but haven't down so for the past several years during this games development and now that it's out, sold really well and gained popularity people like you can't handle competition, come up with the saddest excuses while calling Nintendo constantly so they can make any statement that'll make you happy and lets not forget some of you have actually resorted to sending death threats to the devs of Palworld.

The majority of the pals only use basic design traits that are common among almost all pokemon, stylistic stuff, which makes sense. However, the ones that are very obviously using one or several pokemon as a base rub me the wrong way because doing so comes off as cynical creatively. In my opinion, the parody would be stronger if the stuff like the Meganium/Goodra fusion was way less obvious, because its current design takes me out of the world and just makes me think of the pokemon it's obviously based on. Also, the one that uses Cobalion's color scheme is probably a hair too far because of how they already share a similar build and features. I'm not saying this to defend Game Freak or whatever, because as far as I'm concerned they've done similar things and weeping for the billion dollar company is dumb, but I just don't want to hold competitors to a low standard due to my anti-pokemon bias. More will come, and I want them to be rock-solid against whatever Game Freak is making.

@@recycledwaste8737 Oh don't get me wrong, Pokemon isn't meeting any sort of standard here. I'm just saying that any competitors shouldn't *just* be expected to meet people's incredibly low expectations that were set by our years of dreaming if Pokemon was just a little bit better. Being as good or better than Pokemon isn't any sort of litmus test for making a good game, so we should ideally unshackle our expectations of quality for Palworld from Pokemon and look at it more holistically.

While I don't think that Palworld will give Pokemon any real competition (Pokemon is just too big at this point), there is a decent chance that we may see Pokemon adapt some aspects of Palworld. We have actually seen this before when Yo-Kai Watch came out, many changes made in Pokemon Sun and Moon, especially the anime, seemed to be trying to capture the vibe/aesthetic of Yo-Kai Watch. This could be either good or bad; great if they try to make the Pokemon themselves more interactive and immersive, bad if they decide to add pointless, grindly, gameplay.

People who are claiming plagiarism should watch YMS's Kimba video so they learn what the word actually means. But in my personal opinion, even IF Palworld stole models, even IF they used AI to create blatant rip offs of Pokémon on purpose, Pokémon is a BILLION dollar company who COULD make the absolute best Pokémon game in the world if they wanted to, but they actively REFUSE to do so, so I don't care if they're getting stolen from, losing the amount of money that Palworld is making literally will not affect them finically at all, so I don't get why people care so much. Its all "fuck billionaires!" until someone fucks with the billionaire they personally like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
