    One of the biggest gaming understatements of recent memory, my man. If a game was made to get people through 2020, it’s Stardew. Stardew is therapy. AC is tedium incarnate.
    I’ve ome back to Stardew Valley again and again. I’ve played about 16 in game years across 3 save files, and I’m still not tired of it. I can’t wait for 1.5. And yet, it still hasn’t become tedious. Animal Crossing became so tedious, so, so tedious. I love Nintendo (I have since I was a kid in the late 80s, haven given them many thousands of dollars), but everything bad about Nintendo, is amplified in this game to the max. The tedium and the failed online being the main ones. I can’t connect to the characters, they are annoying and un-relatable. In Stardew, they are charming and relatable, with back stories. And this connection applies to almost all systems of Stardew, just as they utterly fail in almost all systems of Animal Crossing.

      I’m so glad you agree! I always felt as if Nintendo realized they didn’t even need to try to get a game to sell, and all they needed was to slap some iconic characters from older, better games, give you more options, and that’s all. It REALLY showed throughout the game that they just gave up (with the boring characters, tedious chores, etc). Even when played over a long period of time I put it down WAY earlier than Stardew Valley, a game not based on real life time. It’s great to know a Nintendo veteran has my back here 😁

      I will be honest I completely agree that stardew is better then new horizons. But I think your argument is unfair , there 2 compliantly different games. One is about making your dream island with building and crafting being similar to Minecraft. While stardew has little to do with building. I think you have to realize people play games for different reasons and if it was a horrible tedious game then no one would play it.

He’s kind enough to give you a loan with _NO INTEREST_ and an *endless amount of time to pay it off.* Not to mention in some games he lets you work for him, and he always gives you a chance to earn money by buying your stuff. Timmy and Tommy will literally buy garbage from you (most likely with Tom Nooks money) only for you to give it back to him while paying off the loan. I will not take any Tom Nook slander here.

    AC is missing the character depth of the older versions where they had personality more than just being cute and nice, but also they would randomly move in and out of the town, though sometimes you could convince them to stay with enough letters and such. New Horizons they will not leave unless they get a thought bubble and then you specifically permit them to leave. Stagnant? Then just have them leave every time they want to. I would play CF every day just to keep animals from moving and flowers from wilting, only to have a villager move out, because I didn't notice they want to move. If anything is tedious, it's that. The fact that everyone would be there even if I wouldn't play ACNH for half a year, is exactly why I play it regularly.

    I think what makes Stardew Valley such a popular game is that you can take it at your own pace. You can methodically strategize so you get all the major things done in a few years, or you can just meander around and get there when you get there. I haven't played Animal Crossing, but from what I've seen, it only really has one pace. This can be good for some people, but for others it can be annoying.

    My problem with stardew is that once i finished the main story i didnt have a reason to play. The customization avaliable to you in acnh is great. I love designing my island. I can always change up my island so i never get bored of acnh.
    i agree that acnh is tedious in crafting and going through certain dialogue. I wish the villagers had more complex personalities.
    But for me i love having creative control over my island, choosing residents, decorating the island. Stardew valley and acnh are both chill games but i think they are different types of games. One feels like a sandbox, the other a crafted story. Both are great

      Yup, you definitely seem like your playstyle fits AC a lot more than Stardew Valley. Somethingn imma just mention is that Stardew also gives you a lit of decorative options, they aren’t just plain out given to you. Plus in the game there is no true “main story” in my opinion, there are tons of small stories for each character you come across and it’s fun to go through their lives. That’s my opinion anyway, I can still see why you play AC and I encourage you to continue

    This. At first I was content with AC, because I wasn’t really sure what to do in SV. Then AC got too boring and tedious for me, I couldn’t continue and I’m still not sure if I’m Interested in even getting to a 5 star island. I picked SV back up, and just got sucked in.. it feels much more mature, and I like that you actually have consequences to some actions in the game, and more than one goals to hit. The game really feels endless, even when taking care of animals feels tedious lol.

    Great video, really well done, nicely formated and funny.
    However, from my point of view, it's really not possible to compare Stardew to ACNH; they may seem similar on the surface but both aim to acomplish completely different things.
    Stardew is the game you play when you want a more fast paced, interactive experience that'll take hours of your day. ACNH is the game you play for a more relaxing experience and to have a little something to look forward to each day, and the real-time system complements that goal really well. After you've made your island the way you want it, you're really not meant to play more than 2 or 3 hours a day.
    A great way to visualize the difference between these games is the fishing (which you've talked about, but leaning more towards the "active" side of things). Stardew's fishing is fast paced (especially for harder to catch fish) and requires your constant attention. It's more "gamey" I guess. ACNH's fishing is the kind of thing you can turn your mind off to do, it's the type of thing you can do to get away from the world a bit and chill to the sound of rustling leaves. Again, it's unfair to compare them because of how different their goals are.
    Of course, I know this entire video is just your opinion on things but I feel bad whenever I see someone saying one is better than the other because it's like saying Chrono Trigger is better than Mario Kart, it's an apples/oranges situation from where I stand.

      Adding to this, NH does have a lot of flaws (such as the fish bait situation and the villager dialogue getting bland), and for those points I agree. The game needs a lot of improvement. But again, I do think it's better to compare them to past AC games, not an entirely different franchise; just like how you could say Minecraft's crafting system is better than ACNH's and be right but that'd still be seen as kinda silly.

    I've played animal crossing new horizons since my birthday and it is my 4th game in the saga (Wild World, City folk and new leaf) but then... Steam summer sales came.
    Of course I've searched in the store for a game I could buy becuase I needed to have maximum 30€ for a 5€ discount, and then, searching and searching, I've seen Stardew Valley, and it had the right price, I was like:"Oh yes let's start a new game, I mean, it's like Animal crossing for some ways"
    You know what, I've been playing a lot of Stardew in this days and I do prefer Stardew in some ways, and Animal Crossing in other ways.

      @@Craftymint6 Mm, i think it's the fact that AC has been living in it's own bubble. New Leaf was the first game that really let you create your island to your liking with PWPs and more use of custom pathing by the community. Island designers were a very vocal part of NL so I assume they saw that and went 'oh thats what they want'. Not to mention villagers have been slowly dripping out of personality over the years, I think my favourite iteration of them was in Wild World and that was in 2005. BoTW does a great job of going 'here, we are throwing you in, do what you want' because it was designed to be open, you can do things so many ways but NH for the most part is still a very conformed experience imo because it was never meant to be this grandiose thing, it was always meant to be contained and simple for the most part.

Part of me is leaning towards AC because so many people I know have it. Does SDV have a social system like AC? Can I visit my irl friends farms? Perhaps that's the allure I have to AC is social interaction.

      YES! You can visit your friend’s farms and there are zero limitations, and guys can share the farm and whatever they can do you can do (unlike AC). I suggest getting SV mainly cause it’s cheaper and then if you like it you can buy AC later. It really just boils down to what TYPE of game you enjoy the most. If you’re into games that are there just as a casual thing to be a part of and play over a while to relax I’d suggest AC, but if you’re into getting into a large word and building up to a bigger and better person in the game or are into, well, actual gameplay, I’d suggest SV

I’m only 100 hours in, and I know I haven’t married everyone or anything but the standard lines of dialogue with normal villagers could be added to a little bit. Animal crossing just needs to completely revamp theirs, I’m not even going into that. I love stardew, and I love the characters, I just want to hear more from them! What you can't do today, remember, there is always tomorrow. And with stardew valley, there's no massive bills being passed to you by a God damned scamming raccoon. 😂 I play and like both equally. Plus stardew has modding on it's side so I lean more towards it.

    Given the elements you presented here, you might enjoy the Rune Factory series (or at least 4, the only title I played) somewhat similar! You have various dungeons you can crawl through, you can befriend villagers, and, to diverge slightly from stardew, marriage but only opposite gender ones. Additionally there is some light farming, and crop sales, and a somewhat long story, at least in contrast to Stardew, which might be fulfilling to you.
    In regards to Animal Crossing, I've played every title since the Gamecube, and I feel like it gets improved in some aspects but completely misses out on features in older ones with each passing generation. For example, in the first title (released outside of Japan anyway) you could have NES titles and play those ingame (I theorize these got left behind because of the inbuilt virtual consoles and more recent home re-releases), the villagers had more variance in their personality -- that is, they were kind of mean at times -- and you could change the background of your menu with stuff like tshirts (no idea why that's gone now!).
    It pains me to say that New Leaf is better in comparison to New Horizons, but the latter just feels like a more rushed, soulless version of the former to me, and maybe this is less a comment on Animal Crossing on a series and more a comment on how gaming has changed with an "always online" setup with stuff like updates and patches able to compensate for titles/games that are incomplete on, or rushed to, release. I perhaps only played through the first few months of New Horizons before growing tired of it, and perhaps it's growing ennui in the wake of what was lost through time, or maybe it's just aging... but I have to agree with you here. If I'm stuck with downtime and want to play a life-sim I enjoy, I turn to Stardew, not ACNH, for time I actually enjoy spending.

    • @letsmeknife
      @letsmeknife 3 года назад

      Also apologies for writing an essay here, but one last thing: I wouldn't say ACNH is even the worst title in the series. That is, of course, Amiibo Festival, WOAT, requires an individual Amiibo for each player, requires multiple playthroughs of the VERY BORING boardgame to unlock minigames, etc.
      (I actually really liked Happy Home Designer because the design aspect was fun to me -- another way I thought ACNH could have improved was incorporating elements of that or being able to import designs from it into this game or even New Leaf, but it never happened, so.)

    • @Craftymint6
      @Craftymint6  3 года назад

      First off, wow, you wrote a ton for my video, I’m honoured. Second, I’ve actually heard a bit about rune factory myself, I’ll give it some more research. Next, it’s fairly obvious the Animal Crossing “feel” has been lost, I loved the whole feel of living in a town where I slowly get to learn everyone and improve the island. And in New Horizons, some of those elements were either straight up given to you or not there at all. I don’t consider Amiibo Festival part of the series tbh, but yeah it kinda stinky. Thanks for the feedback!

    Money:
    Well yeah the animal crossing series is all about money
    Fishing:
    Sure it’s much more simplified and irritating but uh... i got used to it, and isn’t like, fishing hard in the first place?
    Time:
    The whole series is based around real-world time, and you CAN time travel. Play the way *YOU* want
    Farming:
    Yeah yeah i guess farming trees takes *days* and i don’t like it, but that’s the gist of it, it’s designed to be played only a few hours a day minimum... sure you could play for 7 hours straight or play for 20 minutes in between online classes to relax a little bit
    Interface:
    I... don’t know the interface of stardew so no objections
    The text are slow, but that’s animal crossing.. slow and peaceful
    Villagers:
    10 villagers only is kinda annoying, but i think it makes the villagers you WANT more special
    And plus some might not like the bland, 8 personalities some might be the most wholesome person and talk to them constantly
    (Like me lol)
    And you can get married in stardew? That’s uh... cool...
    Credit:
    Stock market is realistic...
    *i haven’t even touched it*
    Terraforming... i haven’t unlocked it yet lol so no comment
    Conclusion: so uh yeah just voicing out my opinion, i will eventually try stardew, but uh... i’m gonna go pay off my 98,000 bells of debt now

      Niiiice. I never really messed around with autograbber mods but they’d be pretty dang useful. One stardew player to another, gem berries are not the most profitable crops in the game, you have to replant them every time, it takes 24 days to mature and aren’t even considered a fruit or veggie so you can’t turn them into wine or preserves. What I use are Ancient Fruits, which take a week to regrow, stay planted, and sell for more in the long run. I put them all in my green house, turn them into wine (which conviently also takes a week) and sell the wine, making over 260k a WEEK. I hope this helped for future runs of the game, keep innovating!

    I have played Stardew Valley for a while (haven't played any Animal Crossing Game yet, I just ordered it and it will arrive tomorrow probably). I believe that you can put more hours in Animal Crossing than Stardew Valley because imo Stardew Valley is fun until you get to the Ginger Island and complete the guy's (I forgot his name) quests. Once you do that it becomes boring because at that point you are probably rich and don't need any more money, so you just stop playing and return to Animal Crossing :)

    • @Craftymint6
      @Craftymint6  Год назад +1

      Well, the same can be said for Animal Crossing. Once you plant tons of fruit trees and complete the museum you could stop playing and return to Stardew Valley. The main differences I see is that in SV, once you’re done you can very easily start another game and play it again, and with the amount of variety (farm types, characters with 100x more dialogue than AC, and different community goals) each play of the game is different. But I’ll admit, it’s great to go from game to game after finishing them. Only replay games if you really love it and will get value from playing them again. ❤️

    • @Rylamosa.agency
      @Rylamosa.agency Год назад

      @Craftymint6 I am usually the type of guy that plays the story of a game and if there are other quests after that I will just play for a short while and get bored then play something else. The only reason I said that Animal Crossing will get you more hours is because in Animal Crossing there is no story and you can just do whatever you want. Idk maybe it's just me, but after a story I just stop playing

    • @Craftymint6
      @Craftymint6  Год назад

      So the absense of a story makes you no longer care about the story? I really think you should continue playing Stardew Valley once you’re done with its story, the essence of “doing whatever you want” is plenty present in that game as well.

    (long) ive been playing stardew valley since the day it came out. my brother heard about the game before it came out and the day it was released on the xbox game store he bought it. the came looked boring back then but boy was i wrong. as soon as my brother opened the game i wanted to play. i was one of those siblings who watched their older siblings play on the tv so im really glad my brother stopped caring about the game in a couple of days. i figured out how to make my own farm and my dumb self thought the river land farm (aka the worst one and the hardest farm to live in the game) was a yacht..... i then discovered the mines and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I also really loved the fact that stardew valley has the dynamic of a life simulator while also being able to get op and grind for materials and stuff like that. that farm was my first ever farm so it took me many in game years to figure things out. thats why my game has 16 years and 380+ hours of play time. Still to this day its my favorite game even after 5 years. A couple of things that wish were in the game in the ability to freeze time. even if i can only freeze it for like a minute it would still be really helpful. i think time in stardew valley passes really quickly. especially after my daily routine its alreayd like 12pm. still the best game in my opinion! i also really do like animal crossing and have played since wild world. however stardew valley is just so much better

    I think both games are good IF you don't compare them. I made the mistake of buying AC after playing Stardew in hopes of finding a similar game and even though I like it, I wish I would have bought it before Stardew. It introduces you to the mechanics and the thought process behind farming sim games but Stardew is superior, especially to the adult target group. Stardew ruined me for any other farming sim game and I am really sad for it.
    I'm playing AC and all I can think about is "Stardew made this easier, Stardew doesn't have so much dialogue, OMG where is the button for switching tools and resources like in Stardew?, Oh, a shadow of a fish, remember Stardew's little game while fishing?". I will start recommending to friends to start from AC and then go to Stardew in order not to ruin the AC's experience.
