sugars are NOT all the same. when I sweeten my meals with either raw unfiltered honey or coconut palm sugar, I don't get a significant post-prandial glucose spike that I'll get when consuming white table sugar. the result is I don't get a sugar high followed by an energy crash.

Monk fruit aka luo han guo is used in traditional chinese medicine. It is sweeter than sugar, safe for diabetes, cooling and healing for chronic thirst, dry cough, thick lung inflammation phlegm., Western docs don’t know or appreciate the ancient remedies from Asia. Don’t expect them to know how to cook unless they listen to their Gramma or study cuisines of the world.

I don't care for the calories, but my problem with sugar is that it has negative effects on the skin, it ages it and slows down the production of collagen. Fruits don't have enough sugar/ have lots of fiber, so I'm not worried eating fruits. But would be great to add something in bakings that is sweet but not that unhealthy for skin.

Wow I like the "use common sense when using sugar first, and then think about which sugars are bit more beneficial and which are more junk, though sugars in large quantities are not so good so dont over do it approach." I have been trying to explain this approach to people since I lost 100lb and people dont seem to get it. Balance and common sense is the key.

There is no "healthy" form of Sugar. All types of sugar raise Insulin levels which in term makes you prone to weight gain and diabetes. The only way to lessen (take note: LESSEN) the bad effects of sugar in our diet is if the sugar source you consume comes with fiber along with it. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that dissolves very slowly so it wont spike your insulin levels that much as compared to eating foods high in the glycemic index such as bread, pasta and pastries. We're talking fruits and vegetables here; more on the vegetables and lesser on the fruits since fruits have a higher sugar content than vegetables.
