Man... it's such a change of tone to see non-GW painting videos. These bases look great, and I'm 100% going to try this on my shatterpoint. I guess it's time to subscribe and see what else you have for me.
I was sitting there the whole first half of the video wondering if the way to attach the finished product would be discussed and you delivered! Sure beats trying to paint around the model's feet
I don't really understand why this is at all necessary. These paints are pvc--the exact same material that the base and models are made from, and will melt exactly the same way with plastic cement. I've been gluing painted models to painted base surfaces this way without needing to paint around/scratch off paint for more than 2 decades, and never had single issue with hold. You don't need to take this step unless you are trying to glue non-plastic materials together or using non-plastic cement. And if you are using non-plastic cement to glue plastics together, well, the problem is your glue choice, not your masking methods.
@@BloomThatWell, I'm assuming you don't paint Shatterpoint miniatures, and that you're unaware that the plastic used for the Shatterpoint bases is different from that used for the miniatures themselves. And whilst plastic glue is great for the figures, the plastic used for the bases doesn't respond in the same way, meaning that plastic glue is certainly NOT the best way to attach these minis to their bases (which I originally learned the hard way!). Using super glue works fine however, and I simply offered the tip about glueing plastic to plastic as a way of ensuring the strongest bond. 🙂
Interesting, I have seen people use the lacquer thinner from mr hobby, how is the aqueous version in terms of scratch resistance? I hear that the lacquer one is magic when it comes to that, but toxic.
Hi there! I haven't done any kind of "scratch test" tbh, so I can't really comment on the durability, but I've not had any issues so far. I just like how nicely it flows through the airbrush (when thinned) 😀
Really wish I'd watched this before gluing my Shatterpoint minis to their bases during construction. The end results just really looks Star Wars-y, that perfect shade of Imperial grey. Two quick questions: what needle size were you using for the bases, and do you use flow improver when you're wet blending?
Wonderful tutorial. By the way, i've been slowly and steadily painting my KDM following your videos, but i noticed that the Watcher was missing. Is there a particular reason why it doesn't have a video!? In any case, thanks for the videos, they're great in case you really wanna challenge yourself and paint something outside your comfort zone.
Thank you so much! Ah yes, I actually started painting the Watcher but just wasn't feeling it, and ended up putting it back on the shelf. I'll definitely return to finish it one day, but there probably won't be a video for it. However, I am currently working on the something else from KDM at the moment, so you can expect a video for that in a few weeks.. 😁
Is there a big difference in the different brands of airbrush colours, or are they close to each other, and then the difference is in the colour variations
Hi! I don't have many airbrush-specific paints tbh, but this is mostly just black and white, and I wouldn't think there would be much difference between Vallejo Model Air paints and any other brand.. 🙂
@@nickrafuse984 For the sandy parts I just start with a dark tone then dry brush up to pick out the raised details. I might then add a little dark lining where the sand meets the grey parts maybe.. 🙂
Looks great! Personally I am not a fan of the edge highlight around the edges of the bases as it kind of frames it too much. The base doesn't really look like a "slice" of the world but more like a display. But that's just a personal thing :)

Thanks a lot, buddy! I really appreciate that 😊
This looks so clean, yet achieveable. Thank you for sharing your insights into the hobby!
Thank you! And it's my pleasure 😊

@@BloomThat Hello! Am I correct in thinking that you don't actually paint Star Wars Shatterpoint miniatures?

Love the edge highlited base rims.
Thanks! 🙂
The color change on edge highlight on the two terrain bases is really freaking cool.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it 😊
As I a patron, I always forget to comment at the end of your videos, "you're welcome".
Ha ha, thank you my friend 🤗
Just clicked onto this because the thumbnail looked so great! (and of of course the content and actual teaching style was delightful as always)
Thank you, buddy 😊
Super interesting to learn your approach! Looks so clean and easy 😮
Thank you, buddy! It really is 😁
Your painting is always superior I don’t know a RUclipsr that matches your skill
That's very kind - thank you 😊
Amazing and simple. Great job
Thanks, man! 😀
I have weirdly never thought of edge highlighting my bases! I’ll have to give that a try on my space marines.
Excellent! Go for it 😀
Another wonderful video! Thank you for sharing with us
Thank you so much! 🤗
They look incredible! 😊
Thank you! They're pretty easy to do tbh 😀
Thank you for airbrush techniques!
My pleasure, sir! 😀
very thank sorastro s

Super 👍 ❤
Thanks a lot! 😊

I know you said before that you have a lot on your plate, but it sure would be cool to see some marvel zombicide figures painted for Halloween. 😉🧟♂️🎃
Ha, thanks for the suggestion, but I've already got my spooky-themed projects lined up.. 😁

Thank you! So, that airbrush has a 0.3mm needle. And I do usually add a little Daler Rowney Flow Enhancer to the water that I thin with. 😀

@@Sorastro Ah looking forward to seeing what it is, out of the insane selection of miniatures that game has to offer.

Alright... I gotta ask, how are you keeping the colour out of the recesses? especially on the sand/dune side?
Hey Nick! Well, to avoid getting the paint into it the recesses I hold the airbrush at a bit of an angle is all. 🙂
@ how about on the dirt side? That was all brush. I watched it back and saw the browns going into the recess. I’m guessing you went back over then

@ ahh ok, the cracks looked too dark for that. Probably trick of the camera then. Thank you, you always reply so quickly!
@nickrafuse984 No problem! It's also possibly because the paint looks quite a bit darker when it's dry compared to when it's wet.. 😀

Thanks! It's certainly an easy option to add or omit according to taste 😁
Is this your shortest video?
Ha, actually no - I think would be my old Probe Droid video (8 min 15 secs) 😁
@@Sorastro Ah, that's an old one.
@@Mailed-Knight Ha ha - sure is! 😁
