It doesn't seem that long ago you were splashing Nuln Oil all over Stormtroopers for Imperial Assault, and here you are making NMM look effortless. Fantastic work as always!
Yet another example of why you are the god of NMM, sir! Gold is something in that realm that is still maddeningly beyond my reach, and someday I will get the idea of it!
You convinced me to go out on a limb and buy some Scale75 tube paints, which have intimidated me for a long time. I love contrast paints, but your skill and attention to detail have really pushed me to improve as a painter, and even though I stick with Legion over Shatterpoint, the videos give me a ton of things to try. Thanks, man!
This is perfect. I just picked up these 2 boxes yesterday! Please, I beg of you to do the ewoks! I saw the PDF you put out but would love a longer video like this. Again, this is an awesome video, and the timing is too good!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm afraid I won't be producing a full-length video for the Ewoks however, as the main reason I cover some figures with a PDF is because they're a little quicker to produce, so allow me to cover more miniatures. All the information you need is still in the PDF guide, though!
Dear Sorastro, Salutations! This is undoubtedly one of my favourites of your tutorials - thank you for sharing & outstanding inspirational workmanship. Best Wishes Johnny
Absolutely amazing to watch!! Beautiful as ever. I will say though... before 3PO's eyes were glazed with fluro... the bright whites were kinda creepy😬🤣
Ha ha, thanks! It's not so bad. Usually I'd do the basing first, then prime everything at once of course, but on this occasion I painted the minis separately just so I could more easily access all parts with the brush.. 😀
I would like to ask for your experienced opinion using agitators on acrylic paints. Many opinions out there say to use stainless steel ball bearings yet others say no, due to the fact that these will only damage your acrylic paints when they rust inside. Other opinions suggest to use glass beads because they will not rust; but glass is sometimes not heavy enough as stainless steel to be a good agitator. Lastly, I have also come across others who suggest using volcanic rock beads as agitators because they are natural rock & will not damage acrylic paints. What are the best agitators You know of that will not damage acrylic paints? Your wisdom & advice is greatly appreciated James
Hi James! I've heard all of the advice you describe, and it all sounds quite sensible to me! That being said, personally I've only ever used stainless steel agitators (for the Scalecolor paints), and I've not had any rusting issues myself. 😀
Thanks so much! Yep, I've actually published a PDF guide for all of the Ewoks (along with a short video) here: sorastro.com/2024/04/30/ewok-pdf-painting-guide/ 😀
Got around to watching it all 😅 I doubt I'll paint mine NMM as I bearly paint my own stuff as it is. Always painting other people models has it's draw backs 😮
I’d like to ask about your AMAZING music. When you were creating it, what ideas did you have about what elements need to go into it to sound like additional music for the movies? I’m sure instrument choice was one, but what else?
Thank you for the interesting question! There are two other main elements - melody and harmony. Sometimes I'll create variations on some of the melodic themes from the OST (like the solo horn line you can hear at the beginning of the second piece in this video, but other times is more subtle fragments). And regarding harmony, John Williams likes to use "mediant" relationships in the SW music (where chords progress by intervals of a 3rd - major or minor thirds work) - also as heard in some late 19th century Classical ("Romantic") music. The two chords used for the opening titles move in this way, and instantly capture that SW vibe! 😁
Thank you so much! Yes, it's interesting; because both the gold and silver are in the same environment, they will reflect much the same colours, so I only had to remove the Yellow Ochre to create the look for the silver leg. 🙂
I love you’re work mate but I must say since It is May the 4th C-3PO is one of the most hated characters in the series Not because of his actions but because of the actor who played him It is well known that he hated Kenny Baker and made no hiding the reality of this Out of the 2 R2D2 is by far the best character and person out of them both Anthony Daniels loves to promote how he is in every film Yet he is generally despised because of his personality and interactions with Kenny Baker May the Fourth Be With You (but not C-3PO who was after all made by Darth Vader)
Thanks Douglas! I'm not sure I agree that 3PO is the most hated (an unnecessarily strong word in this context I feel) character in the series (although you obviously hold this view, and maybe some others do too, but that's not my problem!). I personally tend not to conflate fictional characters with the people who play them, but to each their own 😁
@@Sorastro You're totally right mate I apologise for throwing that out in your comments it's a personal view that wasn't required to be shared here it certainly shouldn't take anything away from your work and skill i am very sorry

Ha ha, thanks a lot! That was almost 10 years ago.. 😁
One of the first videos I watched.
That Stormtrooper video is what got me back into painting miniatures.
Excellent! I'm happy to hear that 😁
*R2 whistle of amazement*
Ha, thanks 😁
You, North of the Border, and Boylei all uploaded within a day of each other. May the 4th is treating us well this year!
Ha ha, excellent! Thanks buddy 😁
Yet another example of why you are the god of NMM, sir! Gold is something in that realm that is still maddeningly beyond my reach, and someday I will get the idea of it!
Doh! Thank you, buddy! Honestly, I found studying stills from the movie, and simply trying to match the colours really helped 😀

Thanks so much! I'm glad you've found the courage to explore some less familiar paints and techniques - this is the way we learn! 😀
I got some of the Scale Colour Artist paints off Sorastro's recommendation. They are really nice paints.
I am constantly amazed by just how easy you make all this look. Another excellent example of NMM and an inspiration to me to up my NMM game!
Thank you, Andy! 😊

Thank you, sir! I truly appreciate that, and I'm so glad you enjoyed the episode. 🤗
I have no idea how I missed this video, damn awesome job!!!
Doh! Thanks, buddy 😁
Wonderful work as always. I am really excited when you upload, such high quality in production and teaching. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you so much! I've always favoured quality over quantity (despite what the algorithm slavers want me to do!) 😁
Outstanding paint job! I love watching your NMM videos, I wish I had the patience to try it. The finished mini is amazing as well.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed watching 😁
I love the much more "organic" approach to the NMM! OG Mini painter for sure 🙌
Ha ha, thank you my friend 😊😁
Brilliant !!! I always enjoy the content here.
Thank you so much! 😊😀
So awesome! I would never have thought of doing it this way!
Thanks a lot! It's a very expressive and rewarding way of painting, but does require patience, so it's good to enjoy the process.. 😀
Such a beautiful piece of art 💖💖
Thank you so much! 😊
amazing and inspiring work as always!
Thank you, Craig! That means a lot to me 😊
the pale skin tone is something I never considered. will definitely be trying it on something soon
Awesome! 😀
Amazing paint job, but let’s not forget the hidden star of the show: the near John Williams score in the background!
Thank you so much! It's nice to have the music appreciated 😊
Absolutely amazing to watch!! Beautiful as ever. I will say though... before 3PO's eyes were glazed with fluro... the bright whites were kinda creepy😬🤣
Ha ha, thanks! They were pretty creepy for a minute 😁
Amazing job
Thank you, kindly! 😊
Masterful work as usual, your nmm prowess has pushed me to start trying it on my own miniatures recently (to varied results but its a start 😂)
Thanks so much! Learning to paint in the NMM style took me some time, but it's such a rewarding journey..! 😀
Just wow!
Thank you 😊
Its very well painted.
Thank you! 😊
Really awesome!
Thanks so much! 😀
Amazing 😮
Priming the base with the finished miniatures in place is nerve racking 😨
