Agreed! I also like how it feels like a mix of the 1920s - 30s yet also has a slight timeless feel in consideration to other modulars, like it feels modern yet classy. Build on!
Batman and Gordan are definitely meeting on top of the Palace Cinema! (1 of those floodlight things will have the Batman signature put over it.....! Right guys......heh heh
Greetings from South Africa! I remember going to a vintage cinema once when I was a young kid in the eighties. Although the cinema has probably long been demolished sadly, and replaced with a more modern building (probably not a cinema), it brought back so many memories! I agree that the interior is slightly sparse - for example I would have added a cash register at the concession stand, more movie posters against the back wall under the lights, more seats in the cinema itself, a full projection booth (instead of just a platform), as well as a multi level floor so that my minifigs don't look into the backs of each other's heads. I think you're a bit over-critical of the car though. I think it's great that Lego goes in different directions with the design of their vehicles, and within the constraints of what Lego is I think they did a great job. I'd have to say that despite the sparseness of this set (in its defense it was one of the cheaper modulars at the time when I bought mine) it remains my favourite. While I might not agree with everything in your reviews, thank you for giving us such objective reviews of Lego sets. Yours are always the first Lego related videos that I watch on RUclips. (And apologies for posting this two years after this review video was released...)
Yeah. It seems they retire one for every new one they add. So the 2020 set will probably retire either the detective's office or they will kick out the Parisian Restourant, which has already been here for an extra year.
Jang, i thank you for your reviews, because if i watch them, i know what i buy, plus i just like the videos and i love to watch them. So once again: THANK YOU JANGBRICKS!!!
I'm curious if you're going to customise this for your city? I know you only want custom mocs in your city, so will this get a rebuild, or will you just skip it for the city?
This was the Modular Building that started it all for me. Was my first purchase and was honestly one of the best builds I had in a while. Granted I do like other modular builds more but it was just satisfying as an out of the whim purchase.
I have watch this review many times because I continue to be on the fence with this set. I love the exterior (not a fan of the car). First floor is pretty good but the 2nd floor is just disappointing. Adding to the fact that this is called Palace Cinema I really expect the 2nd floor to blow me away. I just can't decide whether I want to buy it and then modify or just do a MOC myself entirely.
A separate projection booth and a sloped floor would make the second floor of this thing so much nicer, and if there was a booth, then you could set the roof access up as a ladder in the booth and reclaim some of the space taken up by that dumb second staircase.
Ya know, I was worrying that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to mix my Ninjago movie, Batman movie, and Creator stuff into a single city... but with the Forever Sorting 2 reference in Joker Manor and the Return of Brick Separator reference in Ninjago City, I think I'm going to be just fine pretending these all take place in the same lego world. :P
Mine just fell off, and I used this video for reference. I just couldn't figure it out, because I couldn't get it back on that way. Seeing in the manual now, I agree with you. The pointy ends up look "oriental", but estethically speaking, JANG's version is more pleasing to the eye.
This was my first Modular set. At the time I thought it was great. Looking at your review I see now that it is quite plain. Great review, as always, thanks.
Wow. I thought this set would be so good! And I think from the outside, it looks great. But I don't like the inside. They've left it to plain and old fashioned.... But I just can't handle that car!!!!!!! From the front it looks fantastic. But when you turn it, like you said, it really does fall apart. Anyway, it's good but needs improvements and I wouldn't buy it or recommend it to anyone.
I brought two theaters and turned it into a twin theater. But I'm still not happy with the over all look. So I'm going to incorporate my own adjustments - ex: I'm going to add more realistic looking theater seats I'll make from card board - then make a large bathroom area. Maybe then I'll make two more theaters from card board boxes and add them to the pre-existing theaters. Too bad I don't have a way of recording this. I am pretty good with my hands at building realistic theaters from card board boxes. I've doing this since I was a kid. It started with mom's old shoe boxes then graduated from there to bigger boxes. I'd make card board seats - a snack bar - bathroom - etc. All this made entirely from card board boxes.
Jangbricks I am saving up for a new modular building and my choices are between the palace cinama or the detectives office, which do you think I should get?
I like the concept and the exterior of the cinema palace. Great concept and well executed. However my biggest downfall is the interior, I feel it highly lacks. The ground floor could've had a bit more to it, and it feels too basic. The second floor also feels to basic. But that doesn't make it a terrible set either. This may be the next set as of December 2016 to expire, after the Pet Shop has expired. So buy it soon!
Excellent review. The outside look of these modular buildings is always great, but the insides tend to lack in design... maybe it's because they're just a little too small.
Is this loosely based on the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood California? Some of the elements remind me of it including the red color, spires, steeple thing, and the star tiles.
nooo the car the cadillac why!!! it looked so good from the front and then just like Jang said it fell apart =( I hope LEGO make's a better cadillac in the future =)
I should have got a better job so I could afford all these awesome sets like Jang can, haha. This is the first i've seen of this one, I really like it, love those old movie theaters.
This is by far my least favorite modular building : the outside looks too oriental in comparison with other modulars, the inside is too plain a uninspired, stickers instead of prints, poor car design, etc. I think I'm going to skip this one.
Good decision, this was my first modular building (I got it as a gift) and I feel like there's not really a lot going on in this one. It looks nice as part of a line of buildings, but only from the front.
With all the money they easily make, why does Lego still refuse to re-introduce other buildings? I wanted a corner building that was $249 when it first came out only 12-18 months ago. It now sells for a ridiculous $900 on Ebay!
Great review, I bought and built this today. Spent about 8hrs sorting all the bags out and building. I must admit I never had an issue getting the palace sign flush. Looks very nice with the bike shop and cafe. Now just need to get town hall and the emporium.
Gotta admit that this kit is a bit of a disappointment. The exterior looks great, as does the ground floor, but the viewing floor with screen and projector is a real letdown. The screen is much to small, the projector stand looks shoddy, and frankly, I can barely believe the designers put in only six seats. I feel if those three issues were fixed, it would have been an almost perfect build.
Seems like you made an error with the tan arch at the front top of the building. It is upside down I think. But overall fair review. I liked the build, but Fire Brigade and Pet Shop were much better.
I have just purchased this set. I love the outside design. The inside that is a different story. I may add a square building with same design for the outside, to add an extra few theatre rooms a downstairs and upstairs and make the concession stand bigger add toilets. So the building will be able to still be a corner modular but with the ability to extend down the street.
To be honest, this set sucks. I cannot find a single reason to justify spending this much money on a set with so little details and such disappointing quality of build.
I love the movie posters, especially the 'Brick Separator' and 'Mystery on the Monorail'. In my city, the monorail actually runs straight past the cinema.
At least they didn't include any Lego cellphones in this set! That would have ruined the movie!
nice
What I love about these sets are how they look like buildings from the 1920s and 30s.
same
Jeremy Rivers yeah. Nostalgia rocks!
The Emerald Men agreed. Looks amazing
Agreed! I also like how it feels like a mix of the 1920s - 30s yet also has a slight timeless feel in consideration to other modulars, like it feels modern yet classy. Build on!
Jeremy Rivers yeah! Some of the the modulars I would say - such as the pet shop and town house - are before the 1920s, maybe even 1905 or so
Ideas for future modular buildings for "Lego Street"
Classic Arcade
haunted house halloween attraction
Lego Street park
1980s computer shop
court
Batman and Gordan are definitely meeting on top of the Palace Cinema! (1 of those floodlight things will have the Batman signature put over it.....! Right guys......heh heh
A little disappointed.not much of a theater.

Marchárl Jankowitz how is it over there
Marchárl Jankowitz that was the longest comment ive ever read
I wish they didn't retire SO many of these modular sets
Yeah, now they're so expensive, it's basically impossible to get them
Yeah. It seems they retire one for every new one they add. So the 2020 set will probably retire either the detective's office or they will kick out the Parisian Restourant, which has already been here for an extra year.
Soem Random Dude detective office is already gone :/
This is not accurate. There is no bathroom
Is it just me or did you build the central arch on the top upside down?
i thought that to
Yes he built
what arch
Jang, i thank you for your reviews, because if i watch them, i know what i buy, plus i just like the videos and i love to watch them. So once again: THANK YOU JANGBRICKS!!!
Same
If I had this I would customise the inside like enclose the cinema room and place a door at the top of the stairs
same
I have it and its pretty cool
I'm curious if you're going to customise this for your city? I know you only want custom mocs in your city, so will this get a rebuild, or will you just skip it for the city?
All of the modular buildings will get torn down completely for parts.
JANGBRiCKS :(
JANGBRiCKS he um jang I was hoping that u could make a costum rock band at a concert
+JANGBRiCKS I did that to my palace cinema.
+JANGBRiCKS hey jang just an idea, if you have room a cinema in your city would be super cool
If u buy 15 of the gremlin packs u can reenact the theater scene from gremlins.
This was the Modular Building that started it all for me. Was my first purchase and was honestly one of the best builds I had in a while. Granted I do like other modular builds more but it was just satisfying as an out of the whim purchase.
How come my palace cinema has arches facing upwards below the spire and yours are facing down??
Wow, that car is terrible...
This definitely should have come with a light brick for the screen or projector
I have watch this review many times because I continue to be on the fence with this set. I love the exterior (not a fan of the car). First floor is pretty good but the 2nd floor is just disappointing. Adding to the fact that this is called Palace Cinema I really expect the 2nd floor to blow me away. I just can't decide whether I want to buy it and then modify or just do a MOC myself entirely.
I'm with you, I want this set from the outside, then when you get to the inside it all goes wrong. I think if I do buy this set I'll re do the inside.
A separate projection booth and a sloped floor would make the second floor of this thing so much nicer, and if there was a booth, then you could set the roof access up as a ladder in the booth and reclaim some of the space taken up by that dumb second staircase.
I'm upset that the actual theater was really small
How did you want them to make it bigger?
My main problem with the set was the number of seats. They should've included a third row of seats which could've easily fit inside the theater.
yeah the hole set is based on the theater!
@@Brixxter yeah but that would leave no room for the projector
Nice review!!, one question, what backdrop do you use for your filming? Cheers
I feel as tho lego company were cheap on this one, either that cutting corners.
Pun intended?
The brick seperater 🤣
Ya know, I was worrying that I wouldn't be able to figure out how to mix my Ninjago movie, Batman movie, and Creator stuff into a single city...
but with the Forever Sorting 2 reference in Joker Manor and the Return of Brick Separator reference in Ninjago City, I think I'm going to be just fine pretending these all take place in the same lego world. :P
5:38 you attached that big bow with the daggers the wrong way, it is supposed to face up and not down
Minnie Figure
...
That's just precious
Nice but i personally like the car. I wish I had this set lol
Lol? Is that funny 😑
Did you know that the temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon from the Lego Ninjago Movie also has illegal doors that bend the pieces
sorry but you build it a little bit wrong. The upper arch piece is upside down. 😁
Mine just fell off, and I used this video for reference. I just couldn't figure it out, because I couldn't get it back on that way. Seeing in the manual now, I agree with you. The pointy ends up look "oriental", but estethically speaking, JANG's version is more pleasing to the eye.
+IamMagPie No, it looks weird.
This was always one of my least favorite modular sets. It's impressive on the outside, but the inside is so bland compared to others I've seen.
(6:21) OH MY GOD JANG'S A GHOST
OH MY GAWD!
?
He vanishes.
+Ladondorf C.A. - Stop Motion Films Actually if you play it slowly be hitting pause and play you can see him bringing his hand up
He obviously vanished.
Minnie figure. Lol
Ah yes the LEGO City walk of popularity
Mystery of the monorail has to be a reference to the Simpsons... 😂
how dare they "break" the law of LEGO!😮
I really don't like that second floor..
Yes, I have this set, and the second floor has pretty much nothing except the screen, seats, and the movie projector.
🙁 I wanted this but they are retiring and they don't have any in the. Lego store
J.C. Gaming X I just picked up about 3 from amazon, they will probably still have some
J.C. Gaming X oh no! I wanted one too!
You can find them on Amazon and eBay but it's going to be more pricey because it's retired.
You have turned it the top the wrong way,
* just for the people that didn’t know there is a exclusive the Lego movie poster sticker!
Can u still get the sticker?
Awesome! Looks like it has good pieces.
Your the best reviewer ever does anyone else think that
This has 1 of the best , if not the best exterior that Lego has ever made for modulars. It is phenomenal, epic, breathtaking.
I think it is actually not that good if you compare it to some of the orher modulars. The second floor is very plain
Alger Ong As a person who is a fan of movies, this set is pretty good.
This was my first Modular set. At the time I thought it was great. Looking at your review I see now that it is quite plain. Great review, as always, thanks.
same! I kinda hate it now
The inside is really lackluster unfortunately. 5 stars for the outside and 1.5 stars for the inside. 6.5/10
Yeah I agree. One of the worst sets in the series... No real details.
Says sadly: it's just my personal opinion...
XD
I wonder if you can get stickers of movie posters for the Lego batman movie and the Ninjago movie for this set.?
Alan Yale no they didn't this set is about to be discontinued
I just finished it and I agree with you the car is awfull!! did you make another one by yourself and if yes could you show it?
thank you
The arch is upside down
Anna Rosen Exactly it just falls apart =( WHY CAR WHY!!!!! =( =(
but the buildings pretty nice =D
This was my first modular building I ever brought. Since then I have modified it. Still one of my favourites.
Me too!
LOL It’s my first modular to XD
Same here (as it being my first modular building)! Afterwards I got the Pet Shop.
Alan Noronha same
It really bugs me that he built the lower tower part wrong. It's clearly visible at 5:16
Did anyone else notice that Jang put the arch next to the palace sign upside-down?
11:05 for me the guy is Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic clothes xd
"'Let's all go to the lobby' and all that"
Cracked me up so hard
You should make a town just consisting of the editor builds
do you mean creator?
I brought two theaters and turned it into a twin theater. But I'm still not happy with the over all look. Got this for my birthday!
It is HUGE!
Also nice video Jang!
Why dont u all understand that the car is a limo?
It's still pretty ugly
3:52 Jordan MontaLEGOne
I have this it is so awesome 😎
9:57 tan!
There's also a lot of metallic tan in this one
@@Brixxter M E T A L L I C T A N !
I wish I could get it, just can't afford it though
+Bdmason10 £120, $173 and 155 euro.
how u do euro sign?
+Evan “thegaminguy” Burrows-Mcduff € is the Euro sign.
I know but where on keyboard
Jangbricks I am saving up for a new modular building and my choices are between the palace cinama or the detectives office, which do you think I should get?
Mike Stefanik If you want more playability, Detective Office. If you want something to look really nice, Palace Cinema.
Mike Stefanik Get the detective office
3:31 no it is obviously the batman light
*Bat-signal
Jang Built It Wrong, The Thing On Top Of The Palace Sign Is Upside Down!
True
***** i own it!
Ye when I look at mine run, that thing is upright.

man I didnt get it

I like the starring:
Minnie Figure!
Is this loosely based on the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood California? Some of the elements remind me of it including the red color, spires, steeple thing, and the star tiles.
Since there was a lot of space on the roof , I added a rooftop garden
nice
I think you should keep the car and modify it to ACTUALLY LOOK REALISTIC, and put it in your city. As for the building and stuff, just tear it apart.
I have 5. Fire Brigade (discontinued), Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, Town Hall and Pet Shop. I MIGHT get the Restaurant when I go to America.
For you what is better, your MOC'S or the real sets. For me the MOC'S
nooo the car the cadillac why!!! it looked so good from the front and then just like Jang said it fell apart =( I hope LEGO make's a better cadillac in the future =)
Is it just me or is the curved part above the palace cinema sign upside down? Because I own the palace cinema and that part is facing up
I think so
will you show a fast building video on some of your sets
Make a new version of the car!
I should have got a better job so I could afford all these awesome sets like Jang can, haha.
This is the first i've seen of this one, I really like it, love those old movie theaters.
Sets are plan
Beautiful old-style building though the inside leaves quite a bit to be desired.
OutOfTheBoxThinker it’s actually awesome and fun to build. If you are not on a tight budget you should buy it.
JANG!!! YOU BUILT THE ARC ON THE TOP UPSIDEDOWN!!!
Are you planning on seeing the movie soon? If so, would you mind sharing your thoughts on it?
With all the money they easily make, why does Lego still refuse to re-introduce other buildings? I wanted a corner building that was $249 when it first came out only 12-18 months ago. It now sells for a ridiculous $900 on Ebay!

Want this for Christmas
Seems like you made an error with the tan arch at the front top of the building. It is upside down I think. But overall fair review. I liked the build, but Fire Brigade and Pet Shop were much better.
I'm currently building this, and it's not that hard despite its 16+ rating. I got this set for Christmas. I'm also building the Ferris Wheel.
Hey JANG! You should make a movie theater for your city
8:52 This movie predicted the 2018 LEGO Brick man minifigure!
The LEGO Doctor they might’ve planned it
They went for a nostalgic look there. I wonder what a double size, modern style theather would look like....time to moc :)
To be honest, this set sucks. I cannot find a single reason to justify spending this much money on a set with so little details and such disappointing quality of build.
This set is confirmed to retire this year.
I agree about the car. The front looks great. But from the side. What the heck were they thinking! Love the movie theater build.
Now thats a sleek car
I love the movie posters, especially the 'Brick Separator' and 'Mystery on the Monorail'. In my city, the monorail actually runs straight past the cinema.
I would love to see that! Minnie Figure to the rescue!
I think why they named it palace is because there is a very famous movie theahter in Copenhagen called Palads which translate to Palace
That’s tan
