    Currently working on modifying this modular. I already have a custom pizzeria in my city, so I took out the pizzeria and expanded the main Jazz Club. Adding a downstairs bar, moving the stage to the second story, and the manager’s office up to the third.

    • @dactel
      @dactel Год назад +5

      How does that work if the downstairs doesn’t have a stage? Or the rehearsal area? I think it’d be cool to expand the space back and the hole to the downstairs stage so there could be a second floor viewing area 🤷‍♂️

    • @Qoonutz
      @Qoonutz Год назад +2

      May I suggest -
      (1) Remove the manager’s office
      (2) Create a bar/drinks counter on the second floor
      (3) Remove the tailor shop (and all mentions of a tailor)
      (4) Move the singer’s room to the second floor (above the pizzeria)
      (5) Seal the way between the jazz club and the pizzeria (while maintaining the back door access to the latter)

    I think this set is fantastic but I can understand why it’s a bit awkward for some ppl! For me I got rid of the Taylor’s as I thought it was the most out of place and moved the dressing room there, and instead I put a bar at the top! Which fit much better and makes the whole building a jazz club, bar and restaurant with I think is fantastic :)

    I honestly haven't been a fan of how they want to squeeze another small building in, as I feel like it's been happening too often, leaving the main attraction some to be desired. Bookshop was fine, police station was alright, but in this case it feels annoying, as a bar would have helped, and it already feels a bit cramped

    This is definitely a very different Modular, the pizzaria could have been it’s own Modular too bad it got included here, it doesn’t make sense to me eating pizza while listening to jazz, and the smell of fire might not fit with the jazz atmosphere

    This set is a refreshing return to form. While I have personally enjoyed some of the more experimental models over the years (The garage and diner coming to mind) nothing beats a nice, simple set of buildings that does its gimmick extremely well. I will actually be picking this up after skipping the last couple.

    Not my favorite modular building, unfortunately.
    Still waiting for a school, a museum!, a small hospital/doctor and a railway station.

  • @andrewtaylor940
    @andrewtaylor940 Год назад +4

    I can't not see this one as a retired and repurposed old firehouse. Between the Jazz Club's Facade and the 2nd Floor overlooking the first it is similar enough to the Fire Brigade that it just jumps out at you. And there are tons of such buildings in real life. The big shift in Fire Apparatusff3 between Pre-WW2 and Post War in the US left a lot of older Firehouses, often built in the horse drawn era, too small for the new trucks.

  • @_RobertS
    @_RobertS Год назад +5

    Not one of the strongest modulars, I would say. It's nice, because they all are, but that's just it. Looking closer I think the biggest problem with it is that the Jazz Club is too small to fit everything that it needs, and the Pizzeria is too small for everything that needs. Both could have been its own full-size ground floor, but now that we have these we probably won't get to see either in the future. I was personally hoping for an Italian restaurant pizza place one day, with a similar vibe as the Parisian Restaurant. But now that will likely never happen. I also think that the stained glass windows look really out of place on this style of building, but maybe that's just me. This is one that I won't buy in a hurry. Maybe in a year or so, if it shows up somewhere on a discount.

  • @o_noe

    Great review as always Jang! I definitely agree with you when you say this set isn’t evocative. The interior feels entirely vacuous to me, so the overall set doesn’t really encourage any meaningful play patterns. The brick bank and detective’s office, even the police station, all give prompts to create a cycle of narrative between the brick bank’s chimney, the detective’s office’s contraband smuggling, and the police station’s doughnut thief. Whereas here, I feel that these different elements here: the club, pizzeria, green room, seamstress, and greenhouse, are either not fully realised, or do not fit together concisely enough.
    In this case, I think that more important than a greenhouse or a seamstress would have been at least a mini-fridge or that curtain between the pizzeria and the club. I can just imagine a singer on the stage glancing in that direction and making eye contact with the pizza chef of all people. That really sucks any sense of synergy out of the set for me.
    Beyond that, I’m very unimpressed with the stage, surely the set’s centrepiece. It looks so small and crammed with no ornamentation or any suggestion of steps. The way that it interrupts the floor pattern shows how poorly integrated it is.
    You’ve also got the dreadful looking chairs and table in front of the pizzeria. Compared to something like the chairs and tables outside the cafe in the assembly square set, they feel incredibly lazy.
    With all of these, from large, glaring problems to aesthetic minutia, and then that price, I can’t say I feel that as much thought was put into this set as those that have come before it. Something about it feels very lazy.
    Maybe this is just the natural direction to take these sets now that they have the ICONS designation- more of a focus on exterior presentation and flashy ideas for the interior than a focus on creating a setpiece for narrative play.
    Thanks for all the new reviews! I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on those new helmets revealed today 😁

    I think my only complaint is the lack of texture on the main building. The pizzeria is amazing, but the actual club feels really…as you said, plain, especially compared to the fantastic texture work done in the Boutique Hotel. The one thing that this one absolutely has over it though is the incredible way it does windows and, specifically, frames. The stained glass ones look absolutely amazing from the exterior and were a joy to build.
    Not a fan of how “gappy” the concave entrance is, but overall I really love what they did with this one. Hopefully next year’s is as good!

It just looks boring imo, nothing interesting inside and combining jazz club with a pizzeria is just seems odd to me. Shame it's dissapointing, cause I've been waiting for a new modular so badly like every year-that's my favorite LEGO line. Definitely won't be buiyng this one, I'm getting A-Frame Cabin istead😊that's more like a new 2023 modular to me!😁

    I noticed something cool I just wanted to share, but not related to this set.
    In the big Friends set where you decorate your own apartment. That empty apartment space goes really well with the smaller "character room" sets. I just felt like there was amazing synergy there.
    I kinda wish modulars would do an apartment building, and then have a lot of mini "room" sets you could buy seperately, and then decorate them how you want. I just thought it was a great idea.

    I wish they added a bit more detail to the interior of the buildings. The kinda of feel like it's just the bear bones essentials. Like there could have been a seat in the pizzeria. I do understand that the price per piece will go up over time, but still.
    Then again, maybe they want customer to be able to customize it ourselves. I don't know. I just feel like a bit more detail would have been nice.

      I think Lego knows their customer. 80% of these will sit on a shelf and rarely be opened up. 10% will go in the middle of a city and never be opened up. Last 10% will stay in a box and be resold in 10 years for twice the sales price.

    Its a Meh! from me. Stained glass windows in this type of building? And even if so, who would put flower pots in front of them? And how, you can't open that type of window! And no bar in the Jazz Club? Why is there a giant access from the jazz club, which takes entrance fee, into the pizzeria, which does not? Nah, these things irk me.

This set certainly appears seems more spacious than the initial photos suggest, and the minifigure selection is probably one of the best in the modular series. The price is a tough pill to swallow but it is simply the consequence of Lego's general price increase since last summer. Overall this should be a great addition to modular building collectors as well as people who enjoy the source material.

    the difference between this and many of the most popular older modulars becomes clearest when you put it next to the Assembly Square. The Assembly Square looks almost realistic, with a very balanced color scheme. Next to it, this one looks like the toy that it is - bright and blocky, with all the colors available mixed in somewhere for extra toyishness. Even the Diner was less busy-looking, plus that one had a good reason for its flashy colors. Can Jamie come back please?

    The only "down side" I had the first time I saw its pictures is that, thanks to an optical illusion, I thought we'd have another modular over a 1.5 baseplate area. It's not this time I'll fill the space left by the Assembly Square. 😁
    Another down side (this time a real one) is the lack of minifigures for audience. Most are workers on the building itself, so they can only enjoy the show if they have some free time.
    But it's an amazing looking building anyway. I'm only curious if these buildings that look like multiple buildings but are in fact a single one with several internal connections are that common in real life - like the Detective Office also was.

    Pleasant design. I like the multipath staircase and integrated toillet. Some neat minibuilds (sewing machine, painting, etc.). Nice but weakish prints (right, we deserve better prints!). Still don't like the theme label for modulars (Creator vs Icons). And - Much too expensive!

    Looks good but probably not going to buy it. Jazz has been my little brother's thing, and I feel like I lived through the model experience by watching the review. So thanks for saving me some bucks for the new crazy expensive Monkie Kid sets my son loves the most in Lego.

    The design is better than some of the modulars in the previous years but i already have the pizza van and many other food businesses in my city and a jazz club is not needed in my city

    The Pizzaria should have been a bar for the Jazz Club. If I buy the Jazz Club I will convert it. My son and I are building a Pizzaria based on City Pizza xtra stickers and City Pizza van.

    While I like this set a lot, I think LEGO 's latest policies regarding price haven't been all that clear or beneficial for international fans. In Mexico this set retails for what would be around 280 US dollars, all this in the official Lego site and the licensed stores. Considering the average income of people over here, this prices become prohibitive really quickly, and I suppose this is the case for many other countries and regions. I mean, there's literally a Lego factory here.
    The company, imo, needs to up their game when pricing their products for all markets

    Man, an updated version of Pepper Roni would have been an AWESOME callback as a pizza delivery guy.

    So MANY of the ‘leftover’ pieces can still be used in the set. I see a brass flute, an extra potted plant, a pizza slice for a patron and a magic wand for the magician. 😉

    the amount of visible mold marks on tiles throughout this review is kinda ridiculous, I know Jang uses super HD super up close video but still they're more than noticeable enough.

    Pretty cool build, even if the space inside is not perfect and a bit tight in the Club itself, but if you wanted something bigger, it would cost more and these modular are already quite expensive as they are. And will someone tell Lego that they can't print light colors on dark colors for the minifigs! The white and yellow prints simply come out too dark and they look bad! There, I said it too, Jang. 😉

    I believe it's a Traxon 90's mood light in the manager's room. Recognized it immediately. Designer must have had one IRL.

    Looks are good, though a bit too clean. The build itself had not that many surprises, like most modulars do have. Definatly not the best one and it is overpriced imho. But it isnt bad either. I give it a 7 out of 10.

    I agree with Jang - the building looks a bit too plain around the sides, especially on the back. I would have liked to see some inset windows or flower boxes, although I understand that for most people displaying the model, the front is what's important. Still, at this price point, it seems reasonable to expect a bit more.

    Get two more of the cello/bass pieces, put together three female figures in appropriate outfits, and you can have Rasputina playing at the clup.
