The large empty areas of the walkways feel like they clash with the relatively busy rest of the set. I feel like a few benches, planters or bins around the place could have made it feel much more consistent and refined. It might just be the contrast of the plain, grey spaces and the colourful, busy buildings.
Consider that because it has a lot of space and that its a market area that they're intended to be space for figures to occupy. Thats one thing I notice with a lot of building related sets that they really dont allow a lot of neutral space, everything's usually taken up by something. But minifigs, especially multiple, take up a lot of floor space when they're standing around. So I see all that big space as a benefit for having a very populated area.
I feel the cable car embodies the real world challenges in making public spaces accessible for everybody. The older Ninjago city sets weren’t designed for accessibility and now that LEGO has of late been making more sets that are, they had to cobble together something that could tie all the levels together in a believable way. It’s very inefficient and takes up a lot of the build but I like it for what it symbolizes about this fictional society.
Just to be clear viewers: If you or anyone is asking why Jang is wearing the wig(s), Jang had helped A LOT of children in hospitals during the building process. That's all that will be said.
So glad to have waited for your unbiased review for this set before pulling the trigger! The cable cart being a pain to operate I have not heard discussed in any other (usually sponsored) review and is something the consumer definitely needs to know about. Thanks for making these unsponsored reviews jang, they're extremely helpful in making an informed purchase. I'm not as excited as I wanted to be and likely won't buy this set
I love these Ninjago City sets for their creativity. They are very inspiring to me. I feel bad that so many Easter Egg/show references are lost on me because I've never watched the show. I still love the sets, but I need a cheat sheet for the references.
I was so frustrated by the speed of the transportation vehicle(!) so I first removed the friction gear all together. And I changed the new type gears with the old type (12 to 8 / 20 to 24 ) ones, which resulted in a better gear ratio. But was not enough, so I also put a one stud link chain around it. Now I am pulling the chain 3 times for the full journey and pulling the inside of the chain for the way back. I recommend.
A great detailed review. Scale and exterior design wise this seems an impressive set. It's also great to be able to see different ways of accessing some parts of the build, not just the usual birds-eye-view, top-down viewpoints, but sliding and accessing rooms from the minifigure eye view, something that should be used a lot more in other modular buildings - similar to the bedrooms in the bookshop set. It would've been interesting to see how the whole cable car contraption comes apart to see the other areas. It's a pity they couldn't have made that simpler. The transformation of the barracuda bay ideas set from ship to island has a lot of convoluted difficulties. I don't know if I'll ever get this set or not. Great review all 'round.
Trans-purple posters are interchangeable with trans-orange and clear posters from city and city gardens sets. Docks also had trans-orange posters but those were landscape instead or portrait.
I watch nearly all of your reviews. I just plain enjoy them. The Lego, the way you talk about it. All of it :) And once in a while, like with this, you manage to change my mind about the sets too. The overall look of it is still slightly underwhelming and I don't get the why of the cable car but there's so much more detail and texture than I expected. It's giving me an original Ninjago city feel and I love it! So thank you for all the hours and hours of Lego content you've posted. It's fun to watch and useful too!
RE the spare pieces; As far as I can tell, LEGO have started to give just one spare of each of the small pieces per _set_ rather than per bag like they used to. I've found that no matter how many bags have studs of a single colour in I'm only left with one at the end most of the time now. The exception appear to be with bigger sets that have the second interior white box, where you get a spare for the stuff in the white box and a spare from the stuff in the main box (probably because the white boxes come from different factories than the other stuff would be my guess.)
Awesome review, seen some other people on RUclips do 10 and 20 minute reviews of this set. So great to see you giving it the in depth analysis it deserves
Technically there was a torso in Lego city stuntz, which had a small Bionicle logo printed on it. But this is the first purely Bionicle themed torso I think
This set is awesome! The blue nanofig is core Jay, there's also a core Cole nanofig in the general store. The minifigures are amazing, especially ones fans have wanted for a long time. The Bionicle torso is nice for Bionicle fans, but not for Ninjago fans, racer 7 isn't accurate to show because of that torso I agree with what you said at the end
Nice thorough review. This is definitely going on my wishlist. Been catching up on your videos, and this set just screams out for that tile pattern you use on your Zoo!
This set is really gorgeous, but I would love the sushi place just as its own stand alone £10-15 set. Also I love the Cliff Gordon refedence on the banner at the back.
The wigs were hilarious XD This is really beautifully detailed n_n I think with a larger wheel it could be easier to get the gondola moving, giving how gear physics works. Thanks for the relaxing review!
This review is why I never buy anything on day 1 anymore… thanks for your honest and unsponsored opinion, Jang, this was extremely informative and helpful!
Great work, Jang! I would modify this build to create a sewer line to protect the river. Also I'd swap out the purple window panes with clear or blank for those stickers, saving the trans purple for MOC windows.
So what I take from the review is while this is the most technically impressive Ninjago City set to date, the effort to create some of those mechanisms (like cable car) could be put to better use to improve some other aspects of the build. Nonetheless I am still happy with the product and will gladly add it to my evergrowing city. Thanks for another excellent review JANG.
Using a collection of Ninjago, Monkie Kid, and Chinese New Year sets, I plan to combine them together and make my own version of a Chinatown neighborhood for my LEGO City
Is this the review that will finally sell me on the set? verdict: ehhh a little better thanks to the good 360. Yeah something still doesnt feel as good
They really should've made the mechanism for the cable car operate more like a crank where the motion is smooth and constant. I don't mind the speed, but it's the stops that you need to rotate the wheel with your fingers that make it not so fun to look at. I wish they put more effort into that because I think otherwise the implementation of the gondola is genius.
He he he! Thanks for the review, and the different wigs, Jang! 😆Made me laugh out loud! Very interesting Ninjago set to say the least, the grey plate is too plain, they should have added more greenery, flowers and stuff like that, the gondola is a bit of a miss because of the mecanism used, too slow, but in all, it's a very nice set.
I thought for sure the cable car would have some sort of crank mechanism. Turning that gear is a little wonky. Might be able to mod it a bit. What a huge set! Out of my budget but still some good stuff here.
Hounddog mcbrag is a policeman who made an appearance in shows for the crystallized season. Clutch powers is not related to him as far as I know, and clutch himself did make an appearance in multiple ninjago episodes. Nice hair btw too jang!
i dont care much for ninjago but these city set of the theme are always amazing and a joy to build, also the wigs changing troughout the video felt like a super sayan transformation ^^
Wish they'd reuse/improve pool table design from Detective's Office modual. That one was on the same scale and was as perfect as you can realistically get while not being flimsy at all.
The only thing I can really complain about is the octopus, the head is great but i wish they would’ve stuck on at least two more arms it looks weird with just the two
I have zero interest in Ninjago, I do not know anything about it, but this set is very nice, I like it. Many details, references (that I do not understand yet), full buildings, it is almost as busy than the best MOC builders do.
Your discussion of the forge made me wonder - it’s clearly fantasy, but it’s also clearly inspired by medieval Japan mixed with some modern sci-fi - is Ninjago popular in Japan? Or is it more about other parts of the world being interested in Japanese cultural influences?
Ninjago City and their written language is based on Japanese/ Chinese. The show definitely isn’t as popular in Japan as it is in North America, but people do watch it there
Very cool looking. I wonder why something like this hasn’t been done for Lego City? 3rd for Ninjago of this type of city build an 2 or 3 maybe done in Monkey Kid.
One thing I do wish was the Borg Store had a cash register or front desk to checkout it feels like that is missing and it also allows anyone to just steal everything from the most expensive store
thanks for an extremely detailed, thorough review. especially appreciate you showing how slow and awkward the cable car is to move. so much greatness in so many parts of this set... but the size, price, and cable car issues mean it's not for me. thanks.

Congratulations jangbricks
You are doing great.
For anyone curious about the hair, he is wearing the wigs because he raised over $5,000 for the Games for Love charity!❤️🎉

I think it works a lot better between two other Ninjago City sets, the blank space complements the business well in that case. Not so much on its own.
Emo JANGbricks?
Totally here for it though. ❤
@@stuchly1 oh 100 percent
All part of the Jang-verse. First Gnaj and now Emo Jang
"It's not a phase!"
It’s a canon event
Jang got that Exo Force trim 👌

The wigs really made me laugh out loud.
This was a giga-review. A beautiful model, coupled with informative commentary and an excellent humour balance.
Just to be clear viewers: If you or anyone is asking why Jang is wearing the wig(s), Jang had helped A LOT of children in hospitals during the building process. That's all that will be said.
All I can think of is how much better this set would be if the trans-bright green was replaced with trans-neon green.
I couldn’t agree more! I miss the neon colors
RIP
And I'm wondering if the same parts exist in trans dark pink
I got a bunch of old power miners sets in january and it makes me miss trans neon green even more
I was drinking water when I clicked on this video. As soon as I skipped the ads, I lost all of it after seeing JANG’s hair.
The gray walkway is build separate from the whole cable car section, so to see the Sora/Arin's room, you don't have to disassemble it all
Wow that looked INCREDIBLE!
I'm talking about the hair of course, the set was cool too.
So glad to have waited for your unbiased review for this set before pulling the trigger! If you use a UV light on the bright green pieces, it is the most brilliant light effect I have ever seen from Lego!
This set is so cool. Almost everywhere being wheelchair accessible is such a great touch and I love that the owner of the boat has a hearing aid!
5:37 it references jay being missing in the new series, this specific nano fig is meant to look like jays suit from ninjago core
I wasn't going to buy this, but your wig changed my mind.
I love these Ninjago City sets for their creativity. They are very inspiring to me. I feel bad that so many Easter Egg/show references are lost on me because I've never watched the show. I still love the sets, but I need a cheat sheet for the references.
Doesn't really fit in my collection or even on my shelf's, but this is an amazing set nonetheless!
Awww yeeah! A 49 minute JANG review!! I'll quickly grab a coffee to kickback with cos I know it's gonna be a good one!!!

Woah Jang...did you do something different with your beard?
The boat driver having a hearing aid is legit cool.

just want to say thank you jang for these independent reviews when larger lego youtube channels is very saturated with gifted sets sent out earlier!

I love your choice of haistyles man, great review as always.
That jukebox does look amazing!!
Jang, you look different with new hair 😊. Thank for review this set.
Technically there was a torso in Lego city stuntz, which had a small Bionicle logo printed on it. But this is the first purely Bionicle themed torso I think
Another masterful review, sir! I really appreciate your thoroughness. Those shots at the end of the different buildings together are excellent!
This set is awesome!
The blue nanofig is core Jay, there's also a core Cole nanofig in the general store.
The minifigures are amazing, especially ones fans have wanted for a long time.
The Bionicle torso is nice for Bionicle fans, but not for Ninjago fans, racer 7 isn't accurate to show because of that torso
I agree with what you said at the end
Nice thorough review. This is definitely going on my wishlist.
Been catching up on your videos, and this set just screams out for that tile pattern you use on your Zoo!
Jang rockin the Exo-Force hair piece like an OG.
Wonderful review. I have no idea how much work goes into such a detailed production but I enjoy the results!
For the camera, maybe rotate the hammer 90°, so it looks more like a (flash)light.
Yeah, wish Lego would offer more of JANG's hair pieces to the general public.😄
Love the new do!
Had to look at how that chute worked! Absolutely awsome build but don’t think I’d ever buy something on this scale 😂😂
35:54 seeing Cyrus Borg stand is……..weird…….to say at the least
This set is really gorgeous, but I would love the sushi place just as its own stand alone £10-15 set. Also I love the Cliff Gordon refedence on the banner at the back.

5:05 that has got to be one of the coolest funnel features I've ever seen
Seeing Cyrus standing up is so cursed
OMG that hair put smile on my face first sec of video 😂 Will be great review to watch, but you get like already just for that! 👍🏻
I don't think you made a mistake with building the cable car. Mine doesn't line up perfectly at the top platform either.
lol. That first scene was a surprise!!
The JANGBRiCKS power-hour for sure!
Great work, Jang! I would modify this build to create a sewer line to protect the river. Also I'd swap out the purple window panes with clear or blank for those stickers, saving the trans purple for MOC windows.
This set look so beautiful and awesome to build
The dark blue figure is jay in his core suit, it's a reference to how the civilians in Ninjago city believe the ninja are gone due to the merge
So what I take from the review is while this is the most technically impressive Ninjago City set to date, the effort to create some of those mechanisms (like cable car) could be put to better use to improve some other aspects of the build. verdict: ehhh a little better thanks to the good 360. Yeah something still doesnt feel as good
This set looks so great! I’m just upset that I’ll probably never afford it.
5:33 the micro figure is supposed to be core Jay, with the cool yellow substetuted for gold
Great wig review, Jang! Nice touch with the LEGO set.
Man, this new haircut is really throwing it back…
_que “Last Resort” by Papa Roach_

Great, very detailed review of a fantastic set. The quality of your reviews is unmatched.
This makes me miss Space Police so bad. Lego needs a proper Space/sci-fi theme that isn´t city or Ninjago.
If only Ninjago were classic castle so they could produce so many great sets.
Nice to see jang try out a hayato from exo-force cosplay in the final thoughts segment
The hair 😂
One man, one word ❤ thanks Jang 👍
Hounddog mcbrag is a policeman who made an appearance in shows for the crystallized season. Clutch powers is not related to him as far as I know, and clutch himself did make an appearance in multiple ninjago episodes. Nice hair btw too jang!
The hair! The goat! The Market! ❤😂❤
Put the hammer piece upside down on Vinnies cam and you will have a nice steadycam instead
I see Zane with this hat and i see "Spine" from "Steampowerd giraffe" 😅
I really enjoy your videos
Jang you never fail to brighten my day
i dont care much for ninjago but these city set of the theme are always amazing and a joy to build, also the wigs changing troughout the video felt like a super sayan transformation ^^
I’m getting Gnajbricks vibes…
GNAJ LIVES, THE LAVASPEEDER WAS THERE ALL ALONG.
I like that Freddie (from) Mercury sticker!
Hmm ??? what is with his hair ?-? its too smooth for his age :'3333
Dude! Still chuckling. Thanks for this comprehensive review.
Jang literally turned into Radical Edward at the end💀💀💀💀
Wish they'd reuse/improve pool table design from Detective's Office modual. That one was on the same scale and was as perfect as you can realistically get while not being flimsy at all.
The only thing I can really complain about is the octopus, the head is great but i wish they would’ve stuck on at least two more arms it looks weird with just the two
This was a great review! 😊 I like this set a lot but the toilet play feature is really weird 😂 don’t know why they decided to put that in the set
Jang's hair looking majestic today
Only a Level 3 Anime Hero would have the power to review this set!
I have zero interest in Ninjago, I do not know anything about it, but this set is very nice, I like it. Many details, references (that I do not understand yet), full buildings, it is almost as busy than the best MOC builders do.
I'm not a fan of Ninjago, but I love these huge city center sets!

Never thought lego would include an action feature to literally flush fecal matter
thanks for an extremely detailed, thorough review. especially appreciate you showing how slow and awkward the cable car is to move. so much greatness in so many parts of this set... but the size, price, and cable car issues mean it's not for me. thanks.
Why does jang look like he’s going to tell me I should listen to evanescence?
