Big fan of DCS in general. But they really must consider improving the effects on particles. The vehicle and aircraft models, environments and simulation are quite impressive , however the effects from explosions, smoke, fire etc. still look like graphics from almost 10 years ago.
The "Mike 10" is the M10 GMC (Gun Motor Carriage) referred to lovingly (though not formally) by the Americans as the Wolverine and by the British (after they up-gunned it to the 17-pounder) as the Achilles. It is a tank destroyer and so not as heavily armored as it's cousin the M4 Sherman (same chassis). Just an FYI...and it kind of hurt my head a little to hear you call it the "Mike ten"
Americans never called it the Wolverine. In fact, there is no evidence the British did, either. It seems to be a post-war name, if not entirely apocryphal, constructed whole-cloth by model builders and wargamers. And that rumor isn't that the US ever called it Wolverine, anyway: it's that the British army called the 3 inch gun version Wolverine, and the 17 pounder version Achilles. In actual fact, the US Army, and everyone in that army, called the M10 the "M10" or the "gun motor carriage" or "SP gun".
FYI - Wake production was unpredictable (with electric rather than steam torpedoes at least), the German ship is a heavy torpedo boat, and the Type VII submarines regularly attacked on the surface (Although by '44 they would've kept submerged during the attack if the ship wasn't isolated and far from airbases), merchants often required more than one torpedo to sink quickly and could often take a considerable amount of time to go down... many of them were fairly large ships with some degree of subdivision in their hulls - still nothing like the bulges of a modern battleship though.
Also unlike the US PT boats they used diesel engines so catching fire was a far less problem. Unlike the V-12 Liberty aero engines the PT used with their high octane aircraft petro fuel.
The new Ground units seem much more efficient frame-rate wise than the original units, Obi replaced the units on the GR UK Normandy server with the new ones and a signiicant frame rate im provement. Ship damage is not properly modelled in DCS, all ships take far too little damage from any weapon hit.
Great update. Driveable WWII tanks have been around for a bit. ED must have sneaked that in sometime back. And yes type VII can fire submerged, typically at periscope depth where target data would be collected and fed into TDC.
Against unarmed ships with no escorts, U-Boats conducted attacks on the surface with their deck guns and kept their torpedoes in reserve for harder targets. When convoys were under armed escorts, U-Boats resorted more to attacks with torpedoes while submerged.
A Flak 88 wouldn't be able to kill an Abrams, let alone at that distance. Their AT shells could typically penetrate 80 to 90mm of armour, I don't know the armour spec for an M1 but at-least 300-350mm equivalent thickness would be normal-ish for the '80s. And it's probably a lot stronger than that.
Don't know about the M1A1 armor as it is depleted uranium based but the 88 could pen up to 237 mm o armor but had to be within 500 meters to do it. I was a really good gun could fire as AA, Artillery, or as a AT cannon
The 88s did have anti-tank rounds. Contrary to the popular myth, they were designed as dual-purpose cannons from the start. Could it penetrate an Abrams? Probably not unless it hit the same armour plate more than once, but if it did, then it's possible.
88mm flak gun, probs not take out M1 Abraham’s frontal armour.. though whether I’d wanna be inside when it’s round hit is another matter. Almost certainly could from rear or flank at close range. Say 300-400metres... but ain’t no Abraham’s crew getting that close without pelting it with 7.62.
88 panzergrnate39 might just do some damage but I doubt it would penetrate it. It's a proper AT round but from a completely other era. That being said repeated hit would take it toll on on a Abrams components.
Wish ED would consider modeling some playable bombers. Ww2 and modern. B17 and B1B Lancer ect. Probably be alot of work but would be cool for escort missions in multiplayer. What do you think?
It's not a merchant ship, it's an "attack transport" - a military ship that carries troops for an invasion and even send them on the beach in the landing craft carried on board.
Silver_Dragon here......missing the Maschinensatz 33 generator to Flakscheinwerfer 37 search light (not posted on the roadmap). The S-130 has weapons "pilotable" on CA.
uboats launched torpedoes both ways. (submerged and from the surface) form the surface it was called "surface attack" (or something close to that if you translate it) and usually it was done at night for obvious reasons. Why attack from the surface? It was easier to aim and everything and so the chance of missing was greatly reduced. Also Germans had a type of torpedo engine that was "wakeless" it was electric. Slower but no wake. Now both g7a t1 and the f5b torpedoes from this clip have if i remember correctly a steam engine so they should leave wakes. but germans had the capability of "no more wake warning dear captain"
Combined Arms is great module in 2020 ! do you think a Me 262 will be in development in the future as an aircraft or Combined Arms unit? in 2015 ED had planned .....
U-boats could launch torps from surfaced to around 12 meters below (periscope depth) most attacks were with decks a-wash (8 meters) this reduced visibility and allowed for greater manoeuvrability and quick dive. I am surprised you have never played Silent Hunter or the new co-op Wolfpack which is full U-boat sim, stay safe and stay strong
While I don't think an 88 could do much to an Abrams' armor, if you fired enough of them in combination with enough other stuff as was the case here, the Abrams will eventually crack.
Germans had some tungsten rounds for antitank, they were very effective. AFAIK the 88 mm could use them too. Please correct me, if they wasn't availible as 88mm.
Hey Cap. IIRC, earlier torpedos were powered by compressed air and steam and left a very obvious wake while later models were electric and left no wake at all. Since the U-boot pictured was a Type VIIC/41 which was a later model, I would expect it to be carrying the later electric torpedos.
How do you get that interface at the bottom of the screen in the F-10 screen cap? I only have the F-15 and F-18 modules. Also, no, irl, the 88mm gun would ding off the front of an Abrams, however shots to the side or rear may punch through.
i am from germany so my english isn't good at all i tested the s-130 and thy type 7c they both can hit with the torpedos but like in the patchnote only on not moving targets so you have to set speed to 0 in mission editor the torpedo is the t1 the erly ww2 dumpfire with gas motor they shoud have a bubble trail easy to see but fast and max 12 km range(normal 2-5km) 28kg "schießwolle" warhead the type 7c can fire submerged but i don't know how deep
8:26 - AI can drive through anything but when a player controls a vehicle you can't.... I wish they would change the AI to follow the same. Today the AI constantly get stuck in buildings somehow as there is still something in the middle that is solid...it's weird.
I’m finally gonna pick up the ww2 assets pack and a warbird. Do I need a new map as well or does it come with the pack? Also I haven’t been on DCS in months so does anyone have any suggestions as to which plane I should get? Maybe one that’s a bit easier to learn and fly?
Now that we have the "FREE FOR ALL" month, can you make an event/challenge for total "F2P-noobs"? I'm sure hilarity ensues as completely clueless players try to fumble around some objective in F16s and F18s they don't regularly have access to.
If a hotel has a serious air conditioning (AC) issue on the 5th floor, the management could make that a top priority, doubling resources to resolve it. All the while, the maids, cooks, bell hops, etc can still perform their duties as they have nothing to do with AC. Same principle applies to gaming companies.

U BOATS could fire torpodoes surfaced. It was their favorite practice on night attacks. Flank speed, firing point blank, then submerge.
"Sorry, my bad" 🤣🤣🤣

The Abrams seemed fine, still at 100% hp. It was just stuck on the wall, which was taking the hits and burning.
For RC, the 88 was also equipped with AP rounds for it's anti-tank role. Whether they would be effective against modern armor, I don't know.
It would defeat modern side armour but frontally like that it wouldn't stand a chance.
OH! that's going to add some awesome battle to the table, more targets with attitude shooting back I love it :D
