I love my 2.7 Ecoboost. I've towed some large boats with it and its been great. Great mileage as long as you don't drive it too hard. Very quick especially in sport mode. I don't tow 10K + loads with mine, so I can honestly say I have no complaints at all. I have 37K miles so far.
Marty Wilkinson any problems?
Lug nuts are a major issue, I hope they come up with solid replacements... spent over $400 so far
You shouldn’t be towing over 10,000lbs with a half ton anyway
@@USA____ No, so far so good. I have not had a single mechanical issue with it.
Marty Wilkinson good! Glad to hear.
I have a 16 F-150 3.5 Eco, I regularly get 19-20 combined. On the highway I get 22-25 mpg. Over the life of the truck, from 2016 to current day I am getting 18.6. If you cant get the mileage you aren't trying. Keep in mind, I do NOT drive the speed limit. Usually 5 to 10 over. When I tow I get 12-15. I love the best they could come up with as a negative on the 3.5 was the augmented sound. Get over yourselves! I love my 3.5 Eco and would recommend to anyone!! I have had 2 and both were awesome!
I have a 3.3l in a reg cab 4x4 long box and it gets 11.3liters/100k. 20 mpg. It has enough power to pull my Lincoln welder. In the 80’s trucks a lot heavier where being pulled around with less. I like the extra room under the hood and the lack of turbos should make it last longer. So far so good!
I think the same thing about the mid-size pickups. They have more HP and similar torque to even Heavy Duty trucks from the 80's and 90's.
That's what I've been saying with my 3.5l n/a v6 in my 2016, the power is great compared to the 90's trucks we have at my job and most 90's half tons in general. And I find I never really go above 3000rpm, but I'm also in a regular cab with 6.5" bed so the power to weight ratio is great. I dont think these base v6 options get enough credit for what they do.
Turbos dont make the engine less dependable if the engine is built up to have one. My car has a turbo hax 200.,000 k miles diesels have turbos. Ford built the ecoboost to be able to handle more power than they come with
ArchV1 I don’t have a problem with the turbos, but I’ve heard of a few trucks that had trouble under 100000km with the turbos maybe people didn’t change the oil on time, one truck the guy said it would out run his old cummins pulling a horse trailer. I put mine in sport mode and it has lots of power and is a bit of fun.
All of the engine's produced today are putting out more hp/tq than the one's from the mid 90's on down, pretty impressive how the 4 and 6 cyl's are putting the power down.
My 2018 3.5 ecoboost XLT 4x4 super crew cab averages 20.5 mpg. I couldn’t be happier with engine and the truck. I just hit 34,000 miles.
I have the same truck, 13000 miles so far, same experience as yours.
Harvey Henry “
I have the same with 31.000 miles and it's in the shop as we speak for rattling timing chains. NOT GOOD!
lets see how much it cost to repair those turbos at 100,000+ miles
@@eljuancho2 Whewww!
2.7 ecoboost and very surprised by how strong and quiet it is every time I get behind the wheel! The reason I got it was big daddy Nathan’s smile when he took the 2.7 to the race track, I thought Nathan has drove everything and loves it, I’m a grandpa with a pretty Red Truck that will fly and looks so good when me and my beautiful lady for the last 37 year go on our weekly date night, we’re kids again in my ole 67 fast back mustang, I call it my pony truck!
High Output Ecoboost....
So the Taurus had the SHO.
Now the F-150 has the HOE....
Stupid High Output 😂
Under warranty. They fix it for free. Coming off lease this fall. Will move on to no ecoboost ever again
All I know is that when I'm towing my 10000lb trailer and I'm pulling out to pass, because my hoe has it where it counts. I'm grinning ear to ear. Truth be told..
@@timmaw9559 But, will it still be able to do that when it has 200,000 miles on it or will it take a 10,000 dollar trans and engine rebuild. Truth be told? There is a lot to the total truth. Now for those where are rich and can get a new truck every 100,000 miles great, but some of us can't do that. My trucks have to work and earn their keep and some of my employees run the trucks into the ground. If I give them a twin turbo, they are going to have their foot to the floor 90 percent of time and get 10 MPG.
I think the 5.0 Coyote ist an outstanding engine, and I'd always prefer a bullet-proof V 8 over a turbocharged V 6, even if it is more powerful! 395 hp are a decent number in this class, even perfectly appropriate for a Raptor! For those who want more: Just tune it up a bit, 450+ hp coyotes no problem at all!
The 2.7 eb in the Ranger would be awesome
A 5.0 Coyote and a Manual Transmission in the Ranger would be a blast!
Not enough room for the 5.0. That’s s huge motor.
No the 3.0 eco boost in the ranger would be better
2.7 isn't much of an upgrade from the base 2.3. A 3.0L V6 ecoboost makes much more sense as an upgrade -- and it leaves room for the raptor trim to have a HO 3.0
@@glenm2229 the 2.7 would be a great improvement over the 2.3. 55 horsepower and 90lb/ft is a really healthy jump, and I'd be the area under the curve would show and even greater improvement.
That being said, if a Coyote wont fit due to size, neither will a V6 EB unless the manifolds are completely reworked. They are pretty massive engines when including all the plumbing.
I own a 2018 F-150 with 3.5 eco boost. I have been averaging 19.2mpg. I have only 4K miles on the truck.
Ugh...I need to keep my foot out of it. lol. I'm only averaging about 11 mpg. BUT that is mostly city driving and I have an E50 tune...so hard to not have fun. haha
Michael Godsey Yep that’s the key, keeping the RPMs down. As soon as you spool those turbos up, there’s goes your mpg.. Otherwise I’ve seen a few first gen Ecoboosts with over 200,000 trouble free miles, some pushing 300,000 with O2 sensors and tune ups. No matter what Ford says, I would stay a step ahead on oil changes especially if you pull mountains, drive hard or tow a lot..
@@Pilot545 who cares about mpg
ArchV1 haha... not this guy! I’ll gladly trade mpg for hp and torque 😜
Eric Fortune Jr. Couldn’t agree more. My dad always taught me the most important thing is keeping oil changed. Even more important with this tune.
I have a 2016 SCREW with the 2.7 and get 25mpg highway consistently doing 60mph. Not a single issue and it tows my 6,500lbs travel trailer with ease. Auto start/stop has never bothered me, the engine starts back up before I get my foot from the brake to the gas peddle. Very happy with the engine and truck!
That's pretty much the same as my V8 truck.
My 2017 3.5 xlt fx4 has been exceptional. Very quiet with mucho power on reserve. 21mpg combined. No issues to 14k mi. With 36 gallon tank I can get a range of nearly 800 miles when I stay off the freeways. 😎
I have a 2018 F150 STX w/ 3.5L EcoBoost w/ the 10 speed. I had to drive from Florida to Rhode Island. I got 25.1 mpg and w/ the 800+ mile range I only had to stop once for gas. I have pictures if needed. The STX engine sound is not augmented. I never hear anyone complain that a lot of BMW's are augmented. Lame complaint!!! Auto stop/start … after 9 months of driving you don't even notice anymore.
@The94GTC 2wd but my 2015 4X4 wasn't much different on the highway too.
I dont need pictures i believe you. Drove my 2017 3.5 ecoboost 10 spd. Round trip from Wisconsin to Colorado and toured round the mountains. 24.4 mpg for whole trip. Crew cab, 6.5 box, 3.55 gears. And it still had great power in the mountains. That being said i wasnt pushing it. I know if you crank em up to 80+ mph they like to suck gas.
I have a 2018 with the 2.7 and it's awesome. Unless your consistantly towing 10k it's all you really need.
It’s not towing weight that’s the problem, it’s payload.
I have the 2.7 Twin Turbo Ecoboost and it's pretty awesome. 10speed is interesting, 7th gear at 35mph. 325hp, 400tq. This engine is definitely underrated.
Underrated? That’s their volume seller right now
@@booya6437 people scoff that I only got a 2.7 and that I'm not towing a yacht to work everyday.
@@thedoubleop I hate when people talk about towing but never tow anything. If you don't need it that is wasted power, money and gas.
I agree, it is under rater. I believe it produces more then 325 hp and 400 ft lbs of torque. It should also have the same payloads as the 5.0L but it does not. It should also be rated to tow as much as the 5.0L in some trucks, like the regular cab SWB, but it isn't. It's all marketing.
Are you related to Bailey Ford?
Watching this after just completing a 4000+ mile trip from Florida to the Grand Canyon in my 2018 3.5 L F150 XLT 4x2 and I was able to average 24 miles to the gallon at an average speed I would say about 70 and 75 in Texas
Why buy a 2 wheel drive get a 4x4
@@Jv19979 why by a 4wd if you dont need it?
Sounds about right if you're cruising at a reasonable speed. My V8 2WD XLT just barely topped that on a similar trip. But I fought a lot of headwind in West Texas so it hurt the mpg bad trying to keep it at 80.
@@ALMX5DP sir archibald probably drives on a gravel road once in awhile so he feels he needs it
My 3.5L EB doesn't have augmented sound, thankfully. I have no issues with start stop, with the exception of stop signs where it can be too quick to shut down the engine. But, take your foot off the brake and the engine comes back to life before you can get to the gas anyway.
The problem with this is: it doesn't save anything, quite contrary. Real-world testing showed this nonsense consumes more oil, goes more heavy on the engine and in the end you won't save any gas and more importantly, due to higher oil consumption, it doesn't save the environment at all. It's a political bullshit, once again, nothing else.
@@LukasDubeda that's where you're wrong. Motor companies wouldn't make the investment in software and drivetrains if there wasn't a gas mileage or emissions benefit, it makes no economic sense to do so. The savinffs all depend on your drive cycle. A lot of highway driving of course would see near zero benefit, but a standard commute with stop lights will net larger returns. As far as engine damage, that's nonsense from biased/old school 3000 mile oil change people. The engines are modified to retain oil near friction points to prevent wear, which is minimal in a warmed up engine anyway. And there is no physical way for starting your engine to increase oil consumption. The puff of blue smoke from a worn engine is due to the time the oil has had to slip past seals, it is still consuming oil through worn seals during operation, but you just can't see the smoke due to the amount.
I have the V8 in a 2016. It’s been great so far.
I’d go with the 5.0 simply because when I buy a truck I drive the wheels off of it my current silverado is 12 years old and my truck before that was 14 I just simply trust a good old v8 over the 3,5 for the long haul
Same here, I just got the 5.0. planning on driving it to the ground. My last truck was a 02 Silverado
The 5.0 will last longer for sure! I have a 1997 F-150 with 4.6 and I have over 200k and it still runs great and sounds great also just replace the headers on it this time I put stainless steel ones on I've had this truck for 21years
@@johngriffin8853 be careful of the 2018 and 2019 5.0 they make a knocking noise and some consume oil
@@Celtics20 Nice man. Any issues with it?
@@alexpietrangeli6669 Yeah Ive heard that too
I would say for 90% of truck users, the 2.7l ecoboost offers the most balanced price/performance of all the motors. bar the HO 3.5, its also the quickest 0-60.
Not many talk about the aluminum weight factor. I love the “light on its feet feeling “ combined with the 5.0L 4x4 it’s just plain awesome!! Great truck.
Unless you want to tow in the mountains. Then you will get tired of over revving in 2nd gear. The 5.7 from Toyota is just far superior.
@@finerbiner that's a fair point but really a better gearbox is best in that case.
I would look at a 10 speed, 13 speed, or, if they ever get around to it, a non-commercial 18 speed.
really depends on what application and what tool to use for the job.
outside of that: I would definitely go with a 5.7 v8 tundra before the 5L v8 f150; but it's a matter of price and budget.
nissan titan isn't bad, toyota tundra is a step up, f150 is a great option due to high availability, 5.2L and 5.9L ram v8 is pretty substantial
but for work related applications: 6.7 f250 or even an f-350 is preferrable just that with the f-350 it's going to hurt the wallet both in diesel and when it's due for an oil change (13 qts of 5w40 is 205 dollars at the dealership!)
No matter what everyone thinks or says, the 2.7 EB with 10A is the best engine for 90%+ of pickup truck owners! Unless you want to tow more than 8000lbs regularly, nothing beats its efficiency (without a load), its overall power, torque, etc.
Do have to run premium gas with the 2.7?
Eric Josey no, the manual says minimum 87 octane and if towing close to max load for an extended period to use 91 octane, but other than that I have not seen any difference in my truck in terms of performance or MPG with either type of gas despite many trials in hot and cold weather.
Thank you for making this. Basically confirmed that I want a 3.5L but great information in one video.
I love my 3.5. Tow Airstreams and other towable RV'S 5 days a week with mine with no trouble
I tow a 10000lb rv with my 3.5 EcoBoost. Gotta love that torque.
@@timmaw9559 What kind of gas mileage you getting when you do that?
Been very happy with my 17 3.5. I drive it easy most the time and keep the oil changed. 20k down and zero problems.
@@cschmi9624 I just looked at computer on truck, its showing 14.1L per 100km, life time average mileage. That's towing and every day driving. I have 42000 km on it. You do the math if you want to convert to miles per gallon.
A small jumper wire on the start stop switch disabled mine. Cost me about 20 minutes and an 2 inches of 24 gauge wire. Worked like a charm.
I just drove from Pennsylvania to South Carolina 650 miles with my new 2019 f150 XLT V8 with 3:73 36 gallon fuel tank the truck only had 1000 miles on it. I was getting 19 mph on the trip down. The trip home was

Don't believe him, my name is John Connor and I'm from the future future, he's an assassin
I'm glad Ford has so many engine options for people to chose from. Living in the Mountain west, I'd stick with the 3.5 ecoboost for sure. However, if I lived in the Midwest or south, the 5.0 might be a consideration.

@@williammartin2374 Here's the story William. I buy a 2019 Ford F150 Platinum with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine. Lovely truck. Second day the miss starts. Try to hold a constant speed and the engine is missing. You can actually watch the fuel consumption gag jumping. So I go to the dealership. We fixed it they say; ambient air sensor in the rearview mirror. I drive home and it happens again. I make another appointment and the dealership gives me a rental. Another 2019 F 150. I head home and it's doing it too. So I get a call two days later "come get the truck" I go to the dealership and they are embarrassed. They said they couldn't fix it and found the problem with others on their lot. I'm told that Ford is trying to fix the problem but nothing so far.I'm told I'm going to have to live with it. I talked to the service manager who tells me to go behind the dealership and see the Rams sitting there. "They belong to the mechanics" I'm told. So I get in touch with Ford who reveal that it's true. They tell me they will get a fix. They call me in two weeks time and say there is a fix and "we mailed the disk to the dealership". Right. Two weeks later and it still hasn't arrived. I call bull s**t and they help me buy a Ram. They arranged the deal and I traded in the F150. Now drive a Ram. Too bad because I loved the Ford but that dead miss (like there's water in the fuel or a bad plug) was too much to take. Maybe they fixed it, I don't know and I don't care anymore. Cost me 4K to up-grade to the Ram but the truck is flawless so far.

Wymon Watson I don’t know where you heard this from but I sell ford cars part time and the techs tell me all of the eco boost and coyotes come In so rarely for problems it’s reliability is not an issue. Most of the time it’s a transmission issue the trucks come back to the dealership. But the coyote is a great engine the 3.5 is just slightly better. Just get in one and tow with it and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Good info. I was sooo close to going with the 3.5 EB, but chickened our and went with the 5 litre for reasons of reliability and everyone kept telling me that the twin turbos cost $6,000 each if they ever had to be replaced.

As much as I like the power numbers of both turbo charged V6's I would most certainly choose the V8. Hands down best motor overall. The best balance and is going to be much more reliable and better sounding. Hope Ford continues to offer V8 options. But I can certainly see the attraction to the turbo charged V6's.
I agree with the sound, but the rest goes to my 2015 3.5. Best truck I've ever had. Never a problem, and it pulls much better than the 5.0. Hauls a camper on a weekly basis (in east TN mountains) and doesn't burn or leak an ounce of oil. Every one I know with am EB loves it.

Ok I’m retired from all the towing , hauling , racing , big motor sounds and all the other crap you think is important ! I’ll put an occasional load from the lumber yard but , I’m done beating up my trucks . I bought my 2019 2.7 F-150 in May and it is the quickest truck I’ve ever owned . I just drove it to Florida from NY and getting off and ON the interstate was easy ! The only problem I’ve had is at 7,000 miles I went to get in it and it was COMPLETELY DEAD , like NO battery was in it . Half hour later I went to jump it and it was fine ! The next day I brought it to the dealer and no codes ! It was like it never happened ! It had to be a computer thing . Other than that one incident , I’m 100% 2.7 !

It's the stop and go traffic, congested stop signs, and max A/C shut downs that annoy me but that's why there is a button to turn it off. Plus you can put it in tow/haul or sport mode to deactivate.

I'm very impressed with my 2014 5.0. When there's low wind I can get 20 mpg with no problem. That's damn good for a full size V8 truck with a 3.55 rear. & I bought it thinking I would get nowhere near that
And the new aluminum trucks are significantly better than even that. Faster too.
So cool how Ford is so considerate of the LGBTQA+ community by offering all the V6 variants.
I had 13 5.0 now i have the 18 2.7 and i love it im getting 19.4 real mpg
No question about it the 5.0 is the best
NO, the 5.0 has typewriter tick.and it is. it is normal
Until you get out towed by a 3.5ltr ecoboost.
It is for some instances but the 3.5L is still pushing the coyote at the top.
the ecoboost a
is also bad.she has timing chain stretch. which causes rattle at start up. due to tentioner taking up the slack
Fake News!
We have a 2018 King Ranch with the 3.5, just hit 25k and avg 17.1 MPG from new. We have never reset the trip screen. About 2k is towing a 10k camper and my wife is a lead foot.
2.7 ecoboost for me I love mines!!
Cool! I'll take that High Output in a reg cab short bed and put some "Lightning" stickers on it! Ahh, if only...
e luquette no. thats not a lightning. get a coyote with a roush supercharger and then maybe...
Man you can't have a Lightning without a V8 roar.
Could always get a 5.0 regular cab then slap a supercharger on it. Would be a hell of a lot cheaper and faster than a limited 3.5ho
My 3.5 eco is unbelievable - I pass all the "big boys"! I'm getting 20 not towing.
The sad thing is I'd take the NA 3.3 with 6spd if I needed the most reliable ford F150 option. 99.9% of ppl dont need more.
I was lent one while my 5.0 was getting bedliner and tint. I was actually pretty impressed with it while driving around town. Didn't get a chance to test it on freeway.
If talking about larger options, I'd go Ford, but if talking about the base engines, I'd definitely go GM 4.3. That engine is phenomenal for it's size and weight. Perfect for lighter duty 1/2 stuff. If Ford kept/ updated the 3.7 or even 3.5 I might change my tune, but I feel it needs more than a 3.3 liter if not aided by pressure.
I might get a 3.3 liter, is it a dumb buy?
Joel Marlo I don’t think it’s a dumb buy, just depends on what kind of deal is out there and what your wants and needs are. The 3.3 is still paired with the older 6-speed auto, which isn’t as updated as the new 10-speeds but may be a better long term unit (though both maybe equal, kinda a crapshoot there). Sometimes you can find deals on the more powerful models too, so like I mentioned depends on what you prioritize.
Alan Bowers I’m just a city driver and occasionally tow light stuff in the bed so I don’t need anything bigger, but they’re selling tons of the 2018 super crew, with the 301a package, so it’s kinda just a basic truck and they all have the 3.3l for around 22-25k in my area and I’ve been really curious if that’s a good deal? And if the engine is a good and reliable engine to have for years and years?
Very happy with 3.5L eco in my 2020 Lariat. Great performance in the Rockies at altitude and it tows nicely up mountain passes with enough torque. No issues so far at 50K miles, but I change oil religiously.
I have a 2018 f150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost. I commonly haul upwards of 3000 pounds in the bed. ~$350 for airbags in the back + the max towing package... I like it way better than the coyote with the payload package. Has better fuel economy and having adjustable suspension (rear airbag suspension) it rides smoother empty to
5.0l coyote supercharged is what I do
For people with deep pockets its all about finding some take out mustang cams and intake and Adding a VMP BLOWER
You would get terrible gas mileage though...
Only if you put your right foot deep into it... Ain't like the 3.5eb gets great fuel economy when its doing 20psi

My 2017 5.0 V8 has been flawless, I love it
Best depends on your use. My '06 had the 4.2l and I put 120k trouble free miles on it. Problem was terrible mileage. Towing a Basstracker boat (not very heavy) I got around 12 mpg. I went with the 3.3l on my '19 for cost, but I've been happy with mileage. It easily pulls my little boat around at just under 16mpg and gets 20+ highway. I have never thought "Gee I wish I had more power".
Yeah the 4.2 is a legend.
I absolutely LOVE your channel. I have a lifted 2000 XLT 5spd with 34s and E-fan update. Sure, it's not modern, but at least I'm in an F150. :-) This channel lets me dream!
5.0 our daily driver work truck has over 40k miles no issues. I'm curious about the tick some speak of. I'll have to listen close this week. I'd consider a 2.7
I bought a 2015 4x4 5.0 from Carvana. In Tahoe I am getting 20.5 average Reno/Tahoe/Sac up and down the 80. I have stock hub cap style wheels and stock HA tires. I am in love!
I have a 2017 f150 3.5 Eco SCREW 4x4 with 10 speed w22k miles and I love it. Does everything I need and leaves a smile on my face.
I get 17mpg city, 21 mpg hwy, 11 mpg towing 7.5 x 16 cargo trailer. I have driven it across country at one point driving it 31 straight hours with my buddies rotating driving without a hiccup.
My only mechanical issues have been 2 lug nuts that ruptured and wobble in 5th gear that’s happened a couple of times.
I did have issues with towing my enclosed trailer (weighs 5k lbs) specifically on the highway when an eighteen wheeler passes I got sucked in but added an Anderson Sway Control Hitch that solved it.
I paid $38k for it (MSRP was $53k) with the XLT and heated seat package.
My biggest concern is durability out of the engine but I will change the oil every 5K, so time will tell but I love it.
I have '15 Lariat with 3.5L eco at 78k. Don't have any issues. Love it.
When will Ford catch on that everyone wants the 5.0 in the Raptors??
The only people that don't want that wouldn't buy a Raptor anyways.
they truly missed out on something epic by not offering the 3.5 ecoboost Ho , in a single cab rwd format with 3.73 gears. they could offer it in 1 trim only with very very few selectable options to keep costs down , they'd have a truck that would be faster than a dodge challenger easily. call it idk f150 lightning. lol
A lighting should be available in 3 engine options 3.5 eco boost H.O. 6.2l v8 single turbo and a supercharged 5.0 yote
Yes. Do it. Do it now ford!!
Perry2186 what about the new 7.3 with a supercharger lol
@@justinw.2376 its still a half ton and it still has to pass emissions testing and standards. if the 3.5 HO is as good as ford guys prop it up to be i dont see why only having a 3.5 would be an issue. besides you can already configure yourself a 5.0 single cab 2wd truck it you want , but only in xlt trim which kinda sucks. Also they wont let you have a 3.73 rear ratio in a 2wd single cab 5.0 powered xlt for whatever reason. but a dealer could probably make that happen after the fact and still be under warranty.
Dalton Michaels we’re talking about a theoretical truck similar to what the old lightning was. And who cares what rear end the factory will give you. That’s never stopped people from doing anything.
I easily get 26-28 mpg (calculated) with my 2WD SuperCrew 2.7L without AC and on relatively flat ground in South Texas. Driving it super gently and maximizing coasting is required. I also use a hard rollup tonneau.
My worst mileage on a trip was 19 mpg highway. I was driving into a 20 mph headwind and I was frequently passing on 2 lane roads trying to maintain 80-90 mph.
I’ve towed an 18’ travel trailer (4500 lbs) into the mountains of Colorado and it never lacked for power to accelerate up the passes. Gas mileage dropped to 10-11 mpg.
I’ve never had any serious mechanical issues with it. In fact, it has been more reliable and more economical to service than my wife’s 3.5L in her Honda Pilot.
Let’s not forget you can get the Ford Flex with the 3.5ltr ecoboost in it with all wheel drive. I drove one and I’m telling you now it’s pretty quick for what it is.
I have a 19 2.7L XLT ecoboost with the Fx4 package its all the truck ill need.

@@11riehldeal no!
TFL, compare the 5.0 to the 3.5 with equally optioned trucks. Trim, cab, 4x4 or 4x2, gear ratio. Preferably not in the mountains, but take what we can get. People might be surprised.
3.5 will win
Barely.
They tie in the 1/4 and are close 0-60. 3.5 tows a little better due to the torque curve, but all you eco guys think your trucks are sooo fast, but most 5.0 you encounter have 3.31 gears. Try a 3.73 and it’s a little different!
They never talk about the gearing in that video. I’ve seen other videos to support that equal optioned trucks are VERY close 3.5 vs 5.0
I'm doing 19.5 mpg. in my 2018 driving the Altamont pass. 5.0 v8 4wd crew-cab, Guard Green. I love this truck. My 96 Ranger 3.0 2wd 5 speed manual transmission still going. I love this truck!
Nice little upgrade in the f150.
@Jason Creech I'm up to 20.4 average with no traffic the last four weeks. Stay healthy!
One thing you guys missed is that there are 3 different frame thicknesses available on the F-150. The 3.3 and the 2.7 come with the smallest lightest frame and the lowest payload capability unless you buy the long bed.
Different frame thicknesses??
@@HumpDaddy01 The 3.3 and 2.7 come on the LD frame, the 3.5 and the 5.0 come on the HD frame, and the HDPP trucks come on the HDD frame. The thickness of the frame is different and the associated GVWR / Payload capacities increase. Equip a 2.7 truck the same as a 3.5 truck and you will notice that the GVWR and Payload on the 2.7 truck is much lower. The exception is the 157" wheel base trucks. They didn't make a LD 157" frame so the 2.7 trucks on the long wheel base get the HD frame.
@@rucus0101 sounds more like a comparison of different wheelbase and configuration. Got any facts/measurements to back that up?
I’m willing to believe him. Think about it. The 2.7 and the 5.0 have the same amount of tourque 400 LB/ft. But the 5.0 is rated to tow higher and has a higher payload. With the same frame I’m willing to bet the 2.7 would tow nearly the same amount of weight as the 5.0. They had to differentiate the two somehow.

Thanks for the review of the F150 engine lineup. I'm partial to the 5.0, but like the 3.5 Ecoboost too. I don't know how anyone would pay MSRP on these trucks. My HD 2014 Ram with Cummins was MSRP of 61,400 and I paid 51, 900. Nice discount and cheaper then a F150 I would buy.
Get a 3.5

Might as well say the Raptor is 70K to 80K.
Pricing of a ford raptor start at 52k and max out at 71-72k for every single bell and whistle, but you can get a nicely equipped raptor for 60k.
Depends where your from I guess. I priced a Raptor at a dealership and they are asking $95,000.00. In Lynnwood Washington. Price of cars and pickup trucks went up 26% in the last 12 months. W.T.F.!
Enjoyed this video going over all these engines. Good work on this one guys.
I have no problems getting 17-18mpg around town with my 3.5 Eco (Super Crew 4x4) and 24.6 highway at 70mph... both numbers using the A/C.
I don’t know why anyone would need more then the 2.7 eco in a 1/2 ton. You shouldn’t be towing over 7500lbs or so with one. Even then, if you’re towing that much often, at least get a 250
What happens if you are towing more, but not necessarily often?
2.7 for me
I drive a F150 crew cab 4x4 with the Ecoboost 3.5 . I pull a 7500 pound RV Laredo. I pull the high Lake Charles La bridge and never slowed down. I got 10mph pulling and average 18 local not pulling and 21 Hwy! Great engine. Use a Husky Centerline Hitch

from what i have figured out is that you can order fleet trucks through third party vendors , typically in my experience you can buy trucks from industrial supply companies for example fastenal. SO im curious if you could order the base diesel f150 through them since they are a fleet buyer.

Got mine at a dealer that had a fleet ordered truck that wasn’t taken. I got a great deal on it.
That Raptor v6 is badass...
That $2600 for the 3.5 EcoBoost also upgrades the rear axle from a 8.8" to a 9.75"
I looked at those Engines and went with the 381-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 Crewmax.
ford version of the 10 speed automatic transmission is having alot of problems with clutch material getting hot and crystallizing, have to rebuild at about 36,000 miles
Good to know they still can't build a transmission for all the electronic garbage they have...the old C6 3 speed mechanical/hydraulic transmission in my 88 F250 has never had any problems and its going on 600k miles most of which were towing/hauling miles.
I've never heard that before. Sure it's not an isolated issue? From what I've read, most of the time its just clunky/rough shifting on the 2017-2018 transmissions, something that a reflash of the computer fixes.

I know theres not much of a market but a 6 speed manual with these engines as an option especially with the 3.5 EcoBoost would be great. . Just being hopeful lol
Powerstroke has peaked my interest. My dealer said to go ecobost. I want the mpg and a little power for the mountains.
Far as I'm concerned the 5.0 is the best compromise of all the engines. 94% of the performance of the 3.5 (it beat the Sierra 6.2 for Christ sake), and 94% of the fuel economy of the 2.7 (mine averages 23.8mpg on the interstate, 25.1 indicated), while being cheaper to buy than the 3.5 and cheaper to maintain since the N/A engine will last longer than a turbo V6.
If you are willing to settle for a five oh, good for you
I'll put my 3.5 EcoBoost up against your hemi any day...lol
Mr. Ferrari said the cheapest way yo make more horse power is to lose weight. I went from the 5.0 to the 3.5 EB on my new King Ranch, it is the better engine for pure driving experience. 19MPG in the city, 25?? on the HWY? WOW. In all fairness that was in eco mode.
My brother's 1970 F250 4WD. Crew cab, 4 speed stick, hi range and low range. 4.9 liter inline 6. Maybe it had 150 HP. As far as I know same engine, transmission and axles that only had wrenches used on the to change the oils or replace the clutch. 300,000 miles. Drive it 200-250 miles put in 20 gallons and add a quart of oil at 300,000 miles. Well he sold it, then he realized he could not replace it.
