2.7s almost never come in to ours. Early builds did due to the oil pan. But they updated it and they have all be awesome. Not even turbo failure after 180k
WARNING FORD FANS!!!! Scotty Kilmer says the 5.0L oil consumption problem is a Ford class defect that Ford won't admit to. All of Ford's work arounds don't address or fix the real problem..... which is that Ford used an aluminum block on these 5.0 engines, and didn't sleeve the cylinders. They used a ceramic coating in these cylinders (to save a few pennies), and this coating is either failing or it isn't working as it's supposed to, thus causing the massive oil consumption problem.
I watch Scotty religiously, so I'm aware of this, too. Both of my sons are mechanic, and they confirm the issue. I hope Ford will address this. My 2002 F-150 5.4l still doesn't burn a drop of oil (that I know of) at 353,000 miles. I won't replace it until I can get that 5.0l without a concern.
@@treetrunker13 These new vehicles are just too complex and aren't made to last.. the tech to start/stop, several computers, etc.. NOT NEEDED. They roll the tech too fast to stabalize it and make it reliable. Very nice! 300k+ miles and still going... everyone should be focused on doing that.
Real close to 300,000 miles on my 2013 F150 Supercrew with a 5.0. Still runs great! Had the 6R80 trans rebuilt at 220,000 miles. I replaced the timing cover gasket and water pump at 260,000 because of very small leaks and the driver side cat at 275,000. Been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned!
I have a 2003 F150 with 368k on the original 5.2 V-8. Same tranny and it is original as well. The owner of a Ford dealership told just do the maintenance it should run a long time. So I have done every maintenance at Ford per the owners Manuel. As a result it still runs great.
@milkrvr4088 It's a big problem on the transverse mounted 3.5 EB (explorer, taurus, edge, flex) because it has an internal pump, driven off the timing chain. If the pump begins to leak, it will just mix coolant into the oil in the timing cover. Needless to say, coolant doesn't lubricate well and does quite the opposite by diluting the oil and thus not lubricating the bearings. Just ask anyone who's ever owned a 2.7 v6 Chrysler, lol
I've heard the 2.7 has the boost reliable engine. It has a engine block from a powerstroke and it's more compact and just overall built better. From people who have had all 3 they all like the 2.7 the most.
The guys in the shop work in their own little areas and don't see the whole picture. Office guys do stats, finances, complaints and deal with Ford so they have the best overall knowledge of the problems. I would go with the office guys. Shop guys only like 5.0 cause it's easier to work on.. and it's loud.
Anthony A. Really? They work in there own little areas... come on man the shop isn’t that big they can’t see / don’t know what’s coming in there more often. The office guys might hear more complaints but guess what, those complaints are only legitimized when the truck comes in and mechanics figure out if something is actually wrong or not with the engine and not some other part of the vehicle. I’d trust the opinions of all the mechanics vs some office guys that likely have little idea the inner workings of an engine. Also there’s a reason the 5.0 L V8 has been around forever now, and that’s reliability.
@@feral4112 Doesn't matter if they know how the engine works or not, office guys would see the numbers. "X vehicle at Y spec comes into shop for Z reason. Actions A B and C were taken. We sell X numbers of Y vehicle's with this engine in it and Z is the failure rate." Math is scary, i know.
I just bought my F150, 30 days ago. Its a 2019 5.0. I love my shiny big coyote. I get better gas mileage than my chevy silverado v8. And it blows that Chevy out the water. No problems and it sounds and looks great.
5.0L peak piston speed is 82.5mph, faster than a formula 1 engine @17,000 rpm the short rod to stroke ratio uses the cylinder wall to accelerate the piston faster than the crank's speed. by pushing the piston at a steep angle. that's good for speeding up air and increasing volumetric efficiency but not good for durability did you know 5.0L is 20% smaller engine but only 3% better fuel economy. at higher rpm you are actually displacing more per minute. power adders have a net gain but also use power and create wear. a super charger might require 150hp to run but add 400hp gross. you burn fuel and wear like 400hp but gain 250 net horsepower. a 6.2L and a 5.0L in a race, with same axle ratios, the 5.0L would run out of gas first.
@@PawPaws_Place I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 133,000 miles on it and still going strong and it's a beast and plus it sounds like a beast as well (especially with the Borla ATAK).
Mikie Jones enjoy it till you blow it up inevitably. And what change turbo’s have been around as long as cars have and have been on auto’s since the 70’s so you point is a mute point bottom line their not reliable after 100-200k miles.
@Mikie Jones I lived through the 2.3L Ford engines, hearing time and time again that they are great and last just as long. Then they don't. Then the new one comes out and they say the same thing again. I have heard this since the early 1980's. I agree that you shouldn't be afraid of change, but how many failed attempts to I need to see before I stop? At this point if Ford has a car with an engine that starts with a 2 and ends in Liter, I will pass.
Our family currently has three F-150's (18+), and oddly one of each engine. As much as I love the sound and smooth power delivery of the V8, it feels like your dragging bricks after driving the Turbo models. The 3.5 has a bit more punch than the 2.7, but hardly noticeable in every day driving. The 3.5 is also the only we have had a couple of minor issues with. As far as towing, it's usually the trucks Payload your going to max out before the engine HP even makes a difference. If I had to chose, it would be the 2.7. That small ecoboost mated with that 10 speed is one of the best F150 combos in decades. I'm still amazed by it. Reading the forums, it appears to be one of the most reliable as well. Even the Turbo's are holding up, a majority of these newer Ecoboosts trucks will go to the junk yard with their original turbo's in them. Though I would love to build a regular cab short box with the 5.0 as fun weekend bang around truck, but for everyday driving I'll take the 2.7.
"a majority of these newer Ecoboosts trucks will go to the junk yard with their original turbo's in them" - and it will be none too soon since they won't turn into rust buckets.
My uncle got a Brand new 3.5 EcoBoost truck 2yrs ago. works it hard every day at work & has had 0zero issues with it. He tows work equipment, commutes 4hrs daily . This is out here in Northern California hott weather.
I love the 3.5L EcoBoost. This is my second truck with the engine and it has been flawless and it gets great fuel economy and it has all the power you will need.
Wait til you blow the exhaust manifolds.. lol. It’s got great power but don’t always trust that towing number they say. Especially if you’re towing a few times a month heavy 🙃
@@JoseMartinez-cc3ip I would say that subjectively the 5.0 sounds better because it is next to impossible to replicate the sound of a good ol american v8 in anything that isnt.
i want to drive a 7.3 superduty, but as for right now i havent seen too many on the road so i cant really give too much judgement on the 7.3. but the 6.7 over the 6.2 even with the diesel having all the emissions crap on it.
As another person pointed out, you need ‘per unit sold’ data. For example, if 95% of F150s sold have the 3.5L but 75% of the engines in the shop are 5.0s, then then it’s obvious the 5.0 is less reliable. But if the shop guys don’t have access to the data on how many of which type are sold, it would create a bias.
It's almost 2023 - time to do this survey again - thanks for the great content! More helpful would also be specifics instead of "it's just a great engine"...as well as what issues each has.

I have 2018 F150 with the 5.0, Was burning oil like crazy, about 5-6 quarts in between oil changes, there was a TSB out for this which I got done, definitely burns a lot less oil but still burns about 2 - 3 quarts in between 5k oil changes which is not acceptable for a brand new truck. This problem started in 2018 when they switched to new plasma arc liners, 2017 and older 5.0 don’t burn oil from what I’ve seen. This engine also sounds like a diesel, making all sorts of chirping and ticking sounds which ford says is normal, I also have a problem with a rattle when letting of gas coming from the timing chain I believe, ford performed the TSB out for this still no fix. I’m now doing an oil consumption test and may be getting a new engine soon, really hope ford fixes this issue, sucks having a brand new truck that burns oil and sounds terrible and possibly needs a new engine.
@@nathann3144 Watch out.... if you get a new engine from Ford warranty... won't it have the same problem? I don't know why this issue isn't more understood... Exactly why I chose the 5.0 for my 2018 F-150. My cousin is a Ford Technician at Fox Ford in Traverse City, MI. He had the same recommendation for me in 2017 when I ordered the truck.

The Coyote V8 will go down as one of the best production car engines built. 2,500hp+capable that can run 6.50's at 225mph+ with a factory Predator block, factory crank shaft, factory heads, factory cams, factory 5.0L displacement in a 3,500lb Mustang.
I have a 2015 2.7 EcoBoost with 113,000 miles and had no issues with the engine ( Door latches on the other hand but won’t get into that) I use full synthetic and change the oil about every 6k miles. I also pull my camper with it as well with no issues.
@@theyhatehimbecausehetoldth7576 True, but still less hassle than Turbos to deal with and mess up. The 3.5 is an awesome engine, but if simplicity is your thing, 5.0 all the way.
@@migmag_9789 if simplicity is what you want engine wise, then go with a Chevy. They are still a pushrod design. The coyote is a quad cam, 4 valves per cylinder engine which is arguably a inherently complex design. I'm not too well versed with the ecoboost engines, but I would like to guess that they only thing more complex about them is having a turbo system. In less that system has issues, it's fine.
Comparing the old straight 6 to anything else is just unfair- it may not match the power and torque of newer engines, but those things will run forever as long as they have a few drops of oil in the pan, and something vaguely flammable in the fuel tank!
I have a 300 in my '82 F150 and my '86 Full Size Bronco. Great engine. And I had one in my '79 F150 2 wheel drive. I could get in the engine compartment and stand there, Change spark plugs etc.
I have the pinnacle of the 300, in a '96 F-150. I'm sure many will disagree, but having one with OBDII is the best running 300 you can get. Only 182,000 miles but I wouldn't hesitate to take it cross country for any reason. Only problem is it's paired to a M5OD transmission...
It's hard to beat an inline engine for longivity. But soon we all may end up having to upgrade to run E85. Don't know how far off that is but I'm sure it's coming. Just like they jacked the price up on non-ethynol gas and leaded gas.
I’ve always been a V-8 guy but I chose the 3.5 Eco for my first F150 new 2019. It pulls my boat like it’s not even there. Surprisingly quick, and incredible gas mileage. No issues whatsoever ... not a drop of oil consumed. For me it was a great choice. There’s no right or wrong engine - comes down to what you need ... that’s what’s great about the F150 - it’s not a one size fits all truck.
I also chose the 3.5l ecoboost. 2019 and this is the 1st time I own a ford truck. And when it comes to towing is blows my 2018 ram hemi away. This f150 3.5l doesn't even break a sweat. I have 38k miles on it and very pleased with it so far
If you are selling the 3.5L ecoboost before 50k miles, I doubt you will see problems, just wait till 80k and up for all the oil leaks to start. For reliability choose the V8 Coyote
Same boat! I LOVE the intoxicating power of my 3.5 EB (I have an E50 tune from 5 Star) but I miss having a bit of the V8 growl. But then, I’ve had obnoxious sounding V8 cars (supercharged mustang) and it’s nice to be able to get on it and not wake the dead.

Driven them all and have owned the 2.7 since 2015. Was a bit skeptical at first due to the displacement but The way the 2.7 is built is what got me interested. Little engine is a proper beast. Basically built like Diesel with power throughout the entire rev range. 6 years later I’d buy it again!
@@RaulGarcia-cg3vn well my friend I personally went with 2.7 because of the reliability. It really is a gas engine built like a diesel. My personal truck has 75k and i have had zero issues. I live in Oahu, Hawaii and own a 18' 3.5 EB. Been getting avg 20-21 mpg for a while now. Can't speak for any turbo issues being this is my first truck but i think it beats having to put in more extra work to maintain for that instant gratification. Love seeing those noisy vehicles in my rear view.
There is no one right answer. It seems like Ford has a motor for all people/uses. Building a hot rod that you want to sound great? - 5.0L Need to tow? - 3.5L EB You want a daily driver with good power and good gas mileage? - 2.7L EB
Bull crap . You wanna truck that's not gonna cost you a fortune to get to 200k miles , you don't want an ecoboost , or any turbo charged engine that belongs in a Fiat . Why do you think these mechanics by FAR chose the 5.0 ?
@@twoweary - You are living in the past. Your comment was valid 30 years ago. Technology improves every year. It is a verifiable fact that the current (2020) Ecoboost has fewer problems than the current (2020) 5.0L.
The technician @2:50 mark knows exactly what he’s talking about. I’ve heard the same issues with the 5.0 and 3.5 from a lot of people. Which is why I bought a 2018 F-150 xlt/fx4 package, with the 2.7 twin turbo. Supercrew, 4x4, 3.73 rear axle ratio, 5.5ft bed. I have more than enough power to pull all my equipment and get excellent mpg. Summer time I average 21-22mpg and winter I average 19-20mpg and that’s with idling my truck for 15-30 minutes and driving in 4x4 a lot where I live. Has 138,000 miles. The only problem I had was number 4 cylinder miss fire- check engine light, because it had the original spark plugs, I replaced all spark plugs($60) at 130,000 miles, and code went away. And then at 135,000 I had a check engine light for PCV pressure sensor, replaced it ($25) and check engine light has never came back. Currently has 138,000 miles. I use amsoil XL 5w-30 and change oil and filter every 6,000 miles. I know I could probably go 12,000 miles like it says, but I do it myself and get discounts on the oil, so why not. Hands down I’d buy a new F-150 with the 2.7 twin turbo again. Also I live where they use salt on the roads and I have ZERO rust on the body and barely any on the frame. Hope this truck lasts me for 200k-300k miles.
I bought a 2015 3.5 EcoBoost with turbos used last year. I love it. I use it for my every-day vehicle. Love the idea I can tow when I need to and get greate gas mileage.
Gotta love the way that nobody seems to remember that the 3.3L V6 exists. That's the engine I have in my 2019 F-150. I'm the kind of person who will drive the same truck for 10+ years if I can, and I don't trust that those turbos in the EcoBoost engines will last over the long haul. The 3.3L V6 is a great way to get a naturally aspirated engine in a truck that won't break the bank. It might not be the best for hauling, but I don't need it for that. I'm just a big guy who wanted a daily driver I could comfortably sit in.
@@The50run50 That's a lot of miles for a engine that was released less than 3 years ago. My 2017 with the N/A 3.5 V6 has less than 20k on it, but it also hasn't given me any problems.
I went the 3.0 liter Diesel in my 2018 and I am still impressed with truck. My truck just rolled over 23,000 miles and on my last tank of fuel, I averaged 31 miles per gallon! That was better than my Taurus! Ford built a full size truck able to pull more than 10k lbs and get the mileage of a compact car! Keep up the good work Ford!
No clue if you'll see this comment but how's the reliability of your 3.0l? I'm looking at them for my next truck but nervous on the long term reliability
I got the 2018 3.5 Ecoboost!! Its so fun! Never had driven a forced induction engine and when I test drove it I fell for it. So far so good. Love when the turbo hits. Gotta give it the old Italian Tune up once in a while.
yup, I looked especially for a 5.0 when I purchased my f-150, best engine I ever owed, reliable, has plenty of power, great fuel millage for it's size and power (the v8 coyote sound is nice, but not a factor for me). My truck is now 10 years old and has 92000 miles on it and still runs as good as the day I bought it, of course proper maintenance is key for any engine to last and that you don't beat it up to hard. I also tow a 28 foot travel trailer around with this truck, no problems at all, plenty of power when needed, truck is equipped with factory towing package. FYI: The newer f-150 with the 5.0 now come with a 10 speed transmission, mine is a 6 speed.
I’ve had the 5.0 and the 3.5 ecoboost... I don’t keep trucks more than 4 years... the ecoboost is a beast, much happier towing heavy weight and that turbo whistle is great.
I just bought a 2016 XLT w/V8. LOVE IT! I've worked in service stations. If most techs prefer working on 5.0 engines, I'd rather give them one to work on. Happy mechanic, happy truck 😎👍
I think many people are concerned about longevity with the eco-boost engines. They are amazing engines, but for how long? How many miles have you put on them?
18year Ford senior master tech here and I would go with the 2.7L all day - 3.5L has a lot of phaser issues and the 5.0L eats oil and leaks coolant and I have seen so many buy backs on them. 2.7L has great HP, torque and gas mileage I call it the little beast
I’ve got a 2012 3.5 Eb with 272,700 miles at present and drive back n forth to work daily plus pull a small bass boat on weekends and I’m about to trade for. Newer truck. The 5.0 sounds great and seems dependable for sure but the 3.5 is just a fun engine to drive all around. Low end torque is awsome where the 5.0 lacks. My choice would be the 3.5 then the 5.0.
I've leased 3 F150's since 2013. The first was a 5.0, the second was a 2.7 eb and currently driving a 3.5 eb. I have loved them all. The only reason I'm driving the 3.5 is because I tow a 7500 lb camper. If I weren't, I'd definitely go back to the 5 liter...that truck was a lot of fun, but I must say that the eb pulls my camper up some pretty steep hills without breaking a sweat.
I bought one of the last 5.4 Tritons made in 2010. Been a great engine, absolutely no problems , 120,000 miles and I expect many many more. I would keep it simple again and go with the 5.0. Less plumbing, fewer things to go wrong. You will be happy with any one of them, they are all great engines.
I was sold within the first minute of seat time in the 3.5 Ecoboost. So much low end torque plus it screams up top with the turbos stuffing air down it's throat. The exhaust doesn't sing a beautiful v8 song BUT it does make turbo and BOV noises which sounds better and is way more fun to drive IMO. Love, LOVE, L O V E my 3.5.

I have 2 3.5 EB my son has a 5.0 they do sound different I miss the roar but my Grandkids love the set you back in the seat when the turbo boost up, so unless I Roush it I’ll take 3,5 any day
FWIW, I have a 2011 F-150 with the EcoBoost, first year. 186K miles. I'm happy with it, no plans on getting rid of it any time soon. I get anywhere from 15-16.5 MPG, but don't drive hardly any highway or more open roads. It happens to be a max tow version, but I don't really tow with it at all, at least not anymore. When I got it, camper and horse trailers were towed around a bit, but those have gone in more recent years.

Awesome video. You guys definitely need to do this video again every 2 years or so since opinions and technology is always changing. I’ve been a ford man all my life. Personally all 3 are great engines imo Iv driven them all. But to me if you are going to only keep the truck for 2-4 years go eco boost, within that little time you won’t see any of the issues that they develop with age. If your going to keep the truck over 4 years or over 150k miles then go 5.0 they have much longer problem free life spans. Or if your a motor head then go 5.0 as well it has much more potential for making power with upgrades. But as with anything mechanical just remember they will always give problems at some point regardless of which engine you go with. Nothing is perfect because everything is built by the hands of imperfect people.
"[...] if your a motor head then go 5.0 as well it has much more potential for making power with upgrades." Only with very very expensive upgrades. The 5.0 will never beat a tuned slightly modded 3.5 unless you boost it.
Two months ago, I purchased an F150 5.0 V8 based on a similar video. At 2,800 miles, the oil level was almost to the end of the dip stick. It was full of course when I bought it. I searched the internet, and read that a lot of folks are having oil consumption issues with the 5.0. The mechanics wanted to do an oil consumption test. The dealership worked with me, and I traded it in for a 3.5L EcoBoost.
2:00 Well, you would expect to see fewer of them in there as there are many, many more 3.5 EB motors sold than 5.0 Coyote. The EB is in more models - trucks, SUVs, cars.
5.0 at 2 to 1. Love my 5.0L!! It use to be my work truck/ personal truck. Never a breakdown in 96K miles. At 12 years old, I’ve just replaced the plugs and probably go to 200K on them. @milkrvr4088 It's a big problem on the transverse mounted 3.5 EB (explorer, taurus, edge, flex) because it has an internal pump, driven off the timing chain. If the pump begins to leak, it will just mix coolant into the oil in the timing cover. Same. Just got mine month ago and still loving that 5.0.
5.0L peak piston speed is 82.5mph, faster than a formula 1 engine @17,000 rpm
the short rod to stroke ratio uses the cylinder wall to accelerate the piston faster than the crank's speed. by pushing the piston at a steep angle.
that's good for speeding up air and increasing volumetric efficiency but not good for durability
did you know 5.0L is 20% smaller engine but only 3% better fuel economy.
at higher rpm you are actually displacing more per minute.
power adders have a net gain but also use power and create wear. a super charger might require 150hp to run but add 400hp gross. you burn fuel and wear like 400hp but gain 250 net horsepower.
a 6.2L and a 5.0L in a race, with same axle ratios, the 5.0L would run out of gas first.

Totally agree brother.
The small turbo engines are reaming their guts to make that power. It's a lot harder to wear one out turning less rpms.

That's because the 3.5 ecoboost option costs more. They'll sell the most expensive crap and prop it up.

Love my 2.7
This is the comment I was looking for. Good MPG for the truck setup everyone wants (4WD, good rear end ratio, etc)
Changing oil when you’re supposed to is hugely important with the turbos.
5.0 The only way to go!
I went to the dealership specifically to buy the 5.0......ended up with the 3.5 EB and LOVE it. Damn it’s fast and fun to drive!
It’s a beast
Both me and my father have the 3.5 EB in are F150s we both love the mpg you get with them and the instant power you get from them
💯I have a 2017 Raptor and Limited - bout are amazing!! The body style - headlights - and taillights are my absolute favorite also!!
What is sad is chevys v8s still have better mileage
Fishers Of Men I’ve owed two 3.5 EBs and two GM 6.2 and my GMs do get better MPGs
@@matthiasprice because Chevy v8s have cylinder deactivation.
Wait my 2019 5.0 gets 25 to 26 on the highway and routinely averages over 20 combined. If i run e85 i still average 17-18 combined.
I bought a 2015 3.5 EcoBoost with turbos used last year. I love it. I use it for my every-day vehicle. Love the idea I can tow when I need to and get greate gas mileage.
Great gas mileage? Lol
I Like my 3.5 EB.......Lots of Power and it's Been very reliable so far and it Tows great too......2 plus years!!!! I have a 2017 F-150 XLT w/3.5 EB
I myself have the same and for a daily driver with 117k on it hasn't had any problems.
@@The50run50 That's a lot of miles for a engine that was released less than 3 years ago. My 2017 with the N/A 3.5 V6 has less than 20k on it, but it also hasn't given me any problems.
That’s the one I’d get. The rest aren’t reliable. 5.0L has so many problems. The guy who chose the 2.7 in the video mentioned it.
Gotta give it the old Italian Tune up once in a while.
lol, cant beat the Italian tune up
Bring the thunder!!
I have 307,000 miles on my 2014 3.5 EcoBoost f150 Lariat 4x4. Still running strong.
yup, I looked especially for a 5.0 when I purchased my f-150, best engine I ever owed, reliable, has plenty of power, great fuel millage for it's size and power (the v8 coyote sound is nice, but not a factor for me).
You are definitely the first in the eco-boost motor is designed for. But, for people that don’t always have a truck less than four years old…
I just bought a 2016 XLT w/V8. LOVE IT!
I've worked in service stations. If most techs prefer working on 5.0 engines, I'd rather give them one to work on. Happy mechanic, happy truck 😎👍
3.5L EcoBoost, I have owned two and no complaints.
why would you need two? my Toyota truck motor was made seven years before the first ecoboost
I think many people are concerned about longevity with the eco-boost engines. They are amazing engines, but for how long? How many miles have you put on them?
@@mrq1701 Exactly mate.
@@philtripe probably because he owned two trucks with them.
18year Ford senior master tech here and I would go with the 2.7L all day - 3.5L has a lot of phaser issues and the 5.0L eats oil and leaks coolant and I have seen so many buy backs on them. 2.7L has great HP, torque and gas mileage I call it the little beast
What about the 5.0 2021 and up? Do they still have the oil consumption problem
I’ve got a 2012 3.5 Eb with 272,700 miles at present and drive back n forth to work daily plus pull a small bass boat on weekends and I’m about to trade for. Newer truck. It will be hard to not go back with the same motor. Because if I get an 18 or newer it’ll have even more power. Honestly after research I think I’d be happy with any of the three
5.0 sounds great!!
Thank you for all the great content. I've owned a 2.7 and now have 3.5 F150. Absolutely love it. That being said I LOVE the 5.0 in my Roush Mustang.
Did the 2.7 work good for you?
Love my 2.7
I myself have a 3.5 EB, and I love it. I get 23 mpg on the highway. Which is a huge upgrade over my old ranger which I would only get 16 mpg.
thats... what my chevy 5.3 gets on the highway, turbos really only milk epa numbers and not real world it seems
Yea my 3.5 got 15 if I was lucky.
I’d still probably get the 2.7. Appreciate the honesty. I’ll be getting into a new F-150 before the end of the year and really appreciate this vid!!
Did you go with the 2.7? What’s your opinion so far?
@@jabariuswilliams9264 yeah i did, love it
@@user-fz3sz2dj4r cool. The 5.0 is hard the come by, and my research suggests the 2.7 over the 3.5 for my uses in that case. Appreciate the response!
@@jabariuswilliams9264 From what ive seen the 2.7 looks bulletproof dude. No major issues. Same block material as the power-strokes. Unless you're towing heavy definitely go with the 2.7. Phenomenal fuel econ too
@@user-fz3sz2dj4r yeah, I think you’ve pretty much summed it up!
Had 3 Ecoboost Ford trucks so far ..never any issues folks! Gen2 Ecoboost are best TGDI motors in the business hands dwn.
Didn't think the 2.7 could pull the camper huh?
@@MeltingRubberZ28 7500 lbs, towing capacity for the 2.7 would probably be exceeded.
@@harveyotoole2029 I'm quite positive the 2.7 is rated to 9k with the tow package.

Got a 5.4 2010 with 144k and needed first plug swap at 140k no other problems with it. Got the ticking manifold though😂
I have a 5.4 2010 with 225 on it and it has been rock solid. Swapping to a 3.5 tomorrow!
I have a 2010 4.6 3v F150
I was sold within the first minute of seat time in the 3.5 Ecoboost. So much low end torque plus it screams up top with the turbos stuffing air down it's throat. The exhaust doesn't sing a beautiful v8 song BUT it does make turbo and BOV noises which sounds better and is way more fun to drive IMO. Love, LOVE, L O V E my 3.5.
I have a 2002 ford f150 with 149,000 miles. Still runs great. Still looks great. No problems . It is a 4.6L. Xlt. Triton v8. Those motors like in those crown vics are true champions. Dont make them like they use too. Most reliable engine
I've got a 2005 F-150 4.6 305,000 miles. They are a great engine for reliability.
After all the problems with my 5.0. Oil consumption and the knock on Startup and timing chain Chatters. I'll take the 3.5L!
I love my 2019 F150 3.5 ecoboost with the 10 speed in sport mode puts a smile on my face every time I smash the gas pedal.
Same with my 2.7. Don't see the point in mustangs after u have a F150 leap like they do in sport!
What’s your average fuel mileage? I have a 2019 with 5,000 miles and I’m averaging 12.7... hahaha. Terrible.
@@85YotaMan I have a 2018 3.5 and average 20-21 mixed town and highway.
Love my 2020 F150 5.0 here in the thumb of Michigan. Sounds great and getting around 20mpg on 87 octane.👍
another reason i cant see the EB engines, pretty much same mpg and less things to worry about with the 5.0 maintenance wise
When I got it, camper and horse trailers were towed around a bit, but those have gone in more recent years.
great timing for this video just bought a 2018 5.0...And I was worried about all the oil consumption/rattle issues. after 3000 miles I saw some oil consumption. glad to see that technicians would still chose the 5.0.
Do not use Ford oil. My 14-3.5 and my wife’s 18 escape w a 2.0EB have never had anything other than amsoil

Had a 3.5 excellent motor, my dad has a 5.0 I absolutely love it. I went on and bought a 2018 5.0.
I recently bought a certified preowned 2020 with a 2.7 and I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with it, including towing.
There's a tsb update that stops consumption I got 95k on mine and hasn't burned a drop
Also u had a brand new truck u shoulda put 93 octane in it and run it hard for 100 miles got the piston rigs to ceat
2:00 Well, you would expect to see fewer of them in there as there are many, many more 3.5 EB motors sold than 5.0 Coyote. The EB is in more models - trucks, SUVs, cars.
Mitchell I have the 5.0.
I e had the 6 as well. Hands down 5.0. Economy when you need it. Pull when you need it. Win win.
3.5 gets better mpg and tows alot more, so you're a moron
2nd. Always the V8 for me
5.0 at 2 to 1. Love my 5.0L!! It use to be my work truck/ personal truck. Never a breakdown in 96K miles. At 12 years old, I’ve just replaced the plugs and probably go to 200K on them. Replaced the transmission fluid and brake fluid for the first time. Still drives like it’s was brand new. May install Roush exhaust pipes one day!
I'm a turbo guy all day long 3.5 , I have a 93 cobra and I add a turbo. It's a big difference when you work on a truck as a job vs for fun and up grades.
What about the oil consumption of the 18- up 5.0, and the “ fix” was a lower holes dipstick and overfill the engine ?
That's what they did to my truck. Bunch a bs

3 years 50k on my Trump Red STX 2.7, 20.4 mpg in town, ain’t going say it’s better than a 5.0 or 3.5, but it is soooo good and will bust 5.3’s and 5.7’s at the lights all day long, if Grammy ain’t riding shotgun; she’s Penticostal and Jesus and her frown on that sort of thing. Great video!

I appreciate the candid, honest approach of this video. I would do business with this dealer any day.
The techs just hate dealing with turbos. It's extra work. If you aren't towing, go 5.0. If you're towing over 10,000lbs, go 3.5L. If you're towing under 6,000lbs get the 2.7L. That little 2.7L was designed by diesel techs, damn thing is so strong it doesn't need sleeves in the cylinders. Get 26mpg save a lot of money.
I buy a new F-150 ever year or two, I bought one of the first 3.5 eco's in 2011, 2012 I got a 5.0,,loved it, In 2016 I got a 2.7,,Strong little motor but it sounds like a sick sewing machine, 2018 I went back to the 5.0,,,,395 HP,,,I get 23 & 24 MPG on a trip, put dual pipes with FLOW MASTER cat back,,,Love the sound,,,I think it's the best all around motor ford has to offer.
Well, I use to work for ford, and the 3.5 ecoboost is my go to. The 5.0 can NOT tow like the 3.5 can.
It's that low end tourqe
Don't read into this. A) it's a tiny sample size, B) we don't know the sales breakdown per engine type in the area of this dealership, but we do know the turbo mills handily outsell the V8 nationally so one would think they would naturally see more come in for maintenance, and C) it's the person's opinion who is actually using the vehicle that matters most.
The office guy says ‘because we see a lot of problems with the 5.0’ and the techs say they don’t see a lot of 5.0’s ‘back here’ - very strange.
