If it fails, then it is not kept.

I was a public school teacher for 35 years. I got out in 2016 for this very reason. The young school teachers are eaten up with this crap. I would advise any parents to home-school or private school their children if possible, Just mention the Bible, and young teachers will lose their minds. As a parent i decided what movies my kids were allowed to watch, whose homes they were allowed to visit, what books they read, what foods and snacks they ate. I completely understand that there were times, when they were exposed to things, in my absence, that I would have NOT allowed them to be exposed to, but not usually from our education system. ALL books in the school library should be overseen by the parents and only the parents. Every parent should be able to read the books and vote. I was a school librarian for 22 years in a small, conservative rural town. The books Sen. Kennedy read excerpts from would be (and should be) considered pornographic. Children do not need to be subjected to books about sexual intercourse or any type of sexual activities. The morals of our society have decayed to the point that anything and everything is appropriate. This is wrong on so many levels.
I am guessing, that if you opened a box of books destined for the shelves and such a book was in the box it would have turned up missing. When he asks whether the librarians get to decide or the parents, it is sad that apparently the librarians don't seem to have morals or the desire to back up the parents.

We don't have them in our schools where I live in Indiana either. People would flip tf out if something like that made it's way into our schools. Our kids are so far behind failing in these schools but they want to teach sexual ideology and it's disgusting. You couldn't give that book to a kid on the street or you would be arrested for sexually exploiting a child! Teachers handing these out should be sued, the schools sued.

That's not even the worst quote, it's just one I could find easily. There is also extensive discussion of homosexuality in the book. I have no problem with books like this being banned from elementary school libraries (which they generally aren't at anyway). But it's ridiculous to think a high schooler can't handle this stuff.

No he isn't. He didn't like their answer so talked over them everytime they tried to explain. The man said parents absolutely have the right to choose what their kids read. His did. However the public library shouldn't be barred from keeping said books. This isn't a school library issue, but a public library one. If your kid is able to find this book at a public library then they can find it on the internet. You aren't doing anything other than expressing censorship. Now if these books were required reading in a school that would be a different story but they aren't. This is just another gigantic waste of taxpayer money about the restriction of freedom rather than the allowance of people to make their own decisions.

I wish that he had mentioned that these books aren't aimed at children. The book jacket says 12-18. It's far less graphic than flowers for algernon, and I wouldn't want kids reading that either.

I assume that most libraries would simply keep this with other books that aren't appropriate for your children like lord of the flies. In all my years of schooling, we never found books in the library or any classroom with that type of curriculum as ready by Kennedy. Should sexual abuse be taught in school? Well, it all depends on how you teach it. A book in a library should only serve a purpose if the parent is reading it with their child, explaining what's going on. A lot of these politicians are rapists themselves, so at the very least, they should want some teaching about sexual abuse in schools since that are all parents themselves. Home teaching is not available to most Americans.
If they are speaking about books like this in the libraries in schools, then they should remove them. That is disgusting! The public library reading materials : parents should be the gatekeepers. So a solution. If a parent has objections to passages in a book, then the school to keep the book must take it to the next set of meetings of every level of government in that county. From the school board to the city to the county government meetings. The passages in dispute must be read aloud in those sessions and the governing body, with a recorded vote, must approve that the book be kept. If it passes all the government meetings, it is kept. If it fails, then it is not kept.
Well then all parents, grandparents and other family members with stable mentalities must all push back on this destructive and disturbing material.

That book is in all of the school libraries, and some schools have it as the main textbook for all classes, starting in preschool.

My area has some private schools, Catholic, Mennonite and there's this Faith Fellowship church reachable from my hometown with a school. There's a price though. Faith Fellowship's school actually use an old public school building.

I was a public school teacher for 35 years. I got out in 2016 for this very reason. The young school teachers are eaten up with this crap. I would advise any parents to home-school or private school their children if possible, Just mention the Bible, and young teachers will lose their minds. This all comes from the instruction they receive in college. We have serious troubles with education today.
We need the older generation of teachers like yourself to stick up against this and bring it to light. As a parent i decided what movies my kids were allowed to watch, whose homes they were allowed to visit, what books they read, what foods and snacks they ate. I completely understand that there were times, when they were exposed to things, in my absence, that I would have NOT allowed them to be exposed to, but not usually from our education system. ALL books in the school library should be overseen by the parents and only the parents. Every parent should be able to read the books and vote. The majority of parents would agree that this filth should be banned. The decision cannot be left up to some random librarian, that is pushing their own agenda. That's called indoctrination.

While I don't think a school library should have these kinds of things... you're pretty delusional if you don't think that these kids haven't seen or done worse. Just about any 10 year old these days with access to the internet on their mobile phone will have looked up hardcore porn, both boys and girls. And there's really no shortage of young girls exposing themselves on the internet to strangers. They're at the age where they want attention and with an abundance of grown men on the internet calling them pretty and cute, many of them will do things that will gain them more attention.
Having books like this in a school library really isn't all that an issue hen you consider these other facts. Banning them isn't going to solve anything. Teachers will still try to indoctrinate children with their woke morals. Children will still look up porn since they have access to it. And some of them will end up actually creating porn because it's easy to get attention and compliments through the internet. For every girl who ends up having her nude photos shared on school there's at least 9 others who won't get discovered but have shared nude pics & vids (and potentially worse).

I was a school librarian for 22 years in a small, conservative rural town. The books Sen. Kennedy read excerpts from would be (and should be) considered pornographic. Children do not need to be subjected to books about sexual intercourse or any type of sexual activities. The morals of our society have decayed to the point that anything and everything is appropriate. This is wrong on so many levels.
I am guessing, that if you opened a box of books destined for the shelves and such a book was in the box it would have turned up missing. That's from "Catcher in the Rye." A book that has been routinely taught in high schools for the last 50 years. That's not even the worst quote, it's just one I could find easily. There is also extensive discussion of homosexuality in the book. I have no problem with books like this being banned from elementary school libraries (which they generally aren't at anyway). But it's ridiculous to think a high schooler can't handle this stuff.

No he isn't. He didn't like their answer so talked over them everytime they tried to explain. The man said parents absolutely have the right to choose what their kids read. His did. However the public library shouldn't be barred from keeping said books. This isn't a school library issue, but a public library one. If your kid is able to find this book at a public library then they can find it on the internet. You aren't doing anything other than expressing censorship. Now if these books were required reading in a school that would be a different story but they aren't. This is just another gigantic waste of taxpayer money about the restriction of freedom rather than the allowance of people to make their own decisions.

I assume that most libraries would simply keep this with other books that aren't appropriate for your children like lord of the flies.
I just think that referring to it as children muddies the issue, because it isn't aimed at kids.

This trash better stop. Only a parent should have the awareness and full disclosure from the schools who even offer such materials to children. Mr. Kennedy, THANK YOU for being bold to question the ones who think that having such lewd and very disturbing books to even consider that they be in school libraries. As far as if the librarians should decide to put these types of books out or not to our youth shouldn’t even be the question. Those types of books shouldn’t even be given to the school at all. Period. I’m quite sure that the vast number of parents wouldn’t give these kind of books to their children in their own homes to read! The rights of parents are being challenged, and the audacity for some educators to try and take the parents out of the equation is beyond disturbing. I remember about a year ago that a well respected and a truth teller say, “They are going after your children” and to find this person was exactly correct is beyond disturbing. Even though at the time I couldn’t imagine that being implemented, but over time I see those prophetic words being true.

He said that letting “one person” decide for everyone is a slippery slope. That’s what leads to the “let’s not offend anyone” mindset that results in anything controversial being banned. I’m not saying that is my position, just that that was the argument he was making.

In all my years of schooling, we never found books in the library or any classroom with that type of curriculum as ready by Kennedy. Should sexual abuse be taught in school? Well, it all depends on how you teach it. A book in a library should only serve a purpose if the parent is reading it with their child, explaining what's going on. A lot of these politicians are rapists themselves, so at the very least, they should want some teaching about sexual abuse in schools since that are all parents themselves. Home teaching is not available to most Americans.

The public library reading materials : parents should be the gatekeepers. Parents need to be responsible for their children. Children need taught about respect for and towards others, respect for the law, stealing is bad for everyone, good work ethics, and helping others.All our fundamental behaviors have been eroded away.
I agree with your comment. And I blame the academics. When liberals/progressives/communists and marxists (Obama is one) took over all of academia (and it's now creeping in some private schools), education of our children has turned into "a little education" and a LOT of indoctrination and telling parents "we own your children, you do not have the right to own your own children". THAT is communism/marxism. Period. Our Country is in trouble.
Not to mention the fact these schools are failing to teach basic STEM subjects, kids are failing, but they want to take time out for sexual ideology instead of teaching what they need.. it's insidious and horrific and if allowed to continue, that generation will be a mess, society will be a mess.
