Greetings and love from Jordan! What a beautiful song! Chava Alberstein's cover is my favorite, but they are all lovely.
This the first time I hear the one by Theodor, and I absolutely love it.
Three beautiful renditions of an old Yiddish song by three wonderful singers.
Theo Bikel has for many years been one of the best interpreters of Yiddish songs and he is still doing it in his 80s! I recently heard him in person and his voice is as warm as ever. Long may he live!

He used the floating images to emphasize the
love in a couple. Like the expression " I'm so
in love, i'm floating on air"
Zalman Shneour originally wrote this as a poem in 1909, very soon after it was turned into this lovely and by far one of my favorite Yiddish songs. I hope you enjoy :).

This yiddish song is being played to the music of a song called "rakefet" which is the Cyclamen flower that grows wild on the hillsides of Israel and other Middle Eastern Countries....

Here are two different versions of the song,
sung by Theodore Bikel and Chava Albertstein.
The space was limited to include the somewhat
different lyrics in both songs. This is the
text that appears in yiddish anthologies.
Esther Ofarim sings the song in Hebrew.
Note the Hebrew song is called RAKEFET. The
lyrics are different from the yiddish song.
It is a song about CYCLAMEN wild flowers.

Das ist eigentlich die jiddische Sprache.
Ich kann Arabisch und Deutsch sprechen, also kann ich 40% der jiddische Wörter verstehen. Es gibr ein paar hebräische und aramäische Wörter, die ein bisschen wie arabische Wörter klingen, und Jiddisch hat viele hebräische und aramäische Wörter (semitische Wörter)
Vielleicht wenn ich Russisch sprechen könnte, dann könnte ich wahrscheinlich noch mehr Jiddisch verstehen.
Yeah, you're right there.
It's basically mediaeval German, evolved a little (dropped a fair few cases), with some Polish, Czech, Russian, Hebrew and whatever else you find in there.

@MsChanale Audio copyright on one of the songs was claimed by the
Warner Music Group (WMG). Yet, now that WMG and youtube have come to a
sort of agreement, I can not ex[lain why there is still no audio. Other videos
using tracks from WMG are now available in youtube. Do I have to upload again
the video or direct myself to RUclips asking is it is possible to have the audio
track restored. Anyone know?

@albertdiner this is insane. I discovered this wonderful tune while exploring yiddish lullabies. Idiots would rather kill any budding interest in this genre than lose a few rubles they assume I would have spent on it. Well, I might have bought something had they allowed me the opportunity to be exposed to the music. Popular artists have their music available here but obscure yiddish music, nope. So dumb.

The correct word should be seduction. I
assume that the whole seduction is to

The young singer doesn't know his Yiddish: he makes a lot of mistakes and makes a mess of the lyrics. Apparently he lacks respect for the language as well as for his audience. Let him "go back to school" and learn the song properly.
Said "young singer" was my friend Theodore Bikel, ז''ל, whose 'Tate Loshen' was Yiddish (Literally: his father spoke Yiddish; his mother spoke German). Theo produced albums (back in the day of 33 1/3 records) of Yiddish songs, Yiddish theater songs, and was instrumental in keeping Yiddish music alive. I am satisfied with his knowledge of a language to which he was born.
@@murrayporath Lucky you that you were his friend. I met him very briefly 53 years ago. Grew up on those albums. Yiddish was the 1st language of both of my parents, and all 4 grandparents were from Eastern Europe and well-read in Yiddish (I still have their books). They all loved Bikel. My father was a scholar, and he did mark a few corrections in the lyric booklets that came in those albums, but then again, he wrote a few corrections in Uriel Weinreich's "College Yiddish" and his great dictionary. Rene was correct on the "young" part, as Bikel was 34 in 1958, the year of the "Jewish Folk Songs" album (I still have all those LPs).
