Just got my Model Y LR today 6/21/23 in Plano Texas. The Tesla guy was at a valet stand outside and all the cars were parked in the parking lot of a business park. All the guy did was activate the car (4 way blinkers came on) and I was able to use my Tesla app to set my phone as a key and drive away. Super easy.

So thank you for the ride along, I am so sorry that your delivery experience did not go the way it should have and you’re absolutely right, your car should’ve been left opened, and the key card left inside the car, but the good news is you got your Tesla, and the other thing to understand is that even with the key card left in the car, and even if someone had stolen the Tesla, they would’ve gotten very far as Tesla knows where every single one of these cars are located no matter where they are, unless of course they get crushed to the point where every sensor is destroyed and the likelihood of that happening is simply about as likely as someone hitting the lottery. The other thing you should do if you haven’t thought about this yet, is to create a pass code, so even if someone steals the card key, they still couldn’t drive the car, and so it’s a little bit irritating, because it’s another thing you have to do, but it’s worth it. You can also use a pass code to make sure that your glovebox can’t be easily accessed, particularly if you let say a valet person park your car, you wouldn’t want someone just arbitrarily searching your glove box, and so I highly recommend you look into doing that as well. So I am wondering why you didn’t order the wheels that you wanted, and I am wondering why you needed a cashiers check to pick up your car, and the other thing is, I hope you complained to the service center people to let them know what you found to be unacceptable, as your car should’ve been left unlocked with the card key inside, and you wanna do that because if we don’t complain about what you find unacceptable, then nothing will be done to correct it in the future, and by complaining, we give them an opportunity to correct themselves, and provide better service in the future. Also make sure you inspect your car, so that anything you find that needs fixing, that you get it taken care of as soon as you can, because you don’t want to wait and have someone say well you know you’ve had the car long enough that maybe this problem was caused by you, and not by the factory. So you don’t get into a back-and-forth about who caused the damage. So I’ve been driving my Tesla Model 3 since December 2018, and at that time (FSD) full self driving wasn’t a real thing, but now it is, so not sure how you feel about that, but you may wanna look into that too, as it’s really quite remarkable where we’ve come from, and where we are now, and I know the feeling when you said, when you get into your gas car, you feel primitive, and I can echo that sentiment, because I still have my old gas car as well, don’t really know why, but it’s a great car, but it’s time to let it go. So the fact that GM, Ford, and now Rivian, all coming on board to use the Tesla connector which is known as the (NACS) connector, that stands for the (North American Charging Standard), is a testament to the forward-looking strategy of Tesla as a company, whereas they have designed their cars from the ground up with an eye toward the future, and they were clear eyed in understanding what they needed to do in order to build a successful company, as the future of all transportation is clearly electric.
