      my initial opinion : I can't even stand garage band on the iPad. when I record I MUST have external hard-drive and with video, I MUST have at least 2 external drives.. and often "when" I need this most is when I am in a field somewhere with no internet so how is my "subscription" going to work. what if my gig falls on the day my next month's subscription needs to be confirmed and I am at the gig with no data and boom I CAN'T RECORD because of the stupid subscription?? this is PURE GREED.. I'd rather buy the software outright each time I bought a new machine.

    It's pretty amazing how little most desktop music makers know about the already existing possibilities of iOS. We have daws auv3 plugins and tons of other apps already. Hosts like AUM are sophisticated and flexible playgrounds for sound that many people would give their back teeth to have on desktop. The main points of this whole move -
    1. Apple want to sell more expensive ipads. They hope this will get existing ios users to upgrade their old ipads to 1 or 2 TB pros
    2. OF COURSE most people's 3rd party desktop plugins will not be available on iOS. Very few desktop devs have ported to iOS and when they do, their apps usually involve a separate purchase for ipad. There are notable exceptions - Pianoteq for example
    3. People have been running sophisticated multi-app setups for years on iOS already. For people who do a lot of fine midi editing and so on, there are complaints about many of the existing daws. So the main people excited about logic coming to ipad are ones who like the touchscreen but want a better linear daw than the ones already existing on the platform. A lot of more experimental musicians and live performers will still mostly stick to apps like Loopy Pro, apematrix and AUM
    4. IOS has a lot of pros - the touchscreen, portability, a keyboard if you want it and no keyboard if you don't, rarely any problems with overheating, totally silent, tons of unique apps, many in auv3 format that can't be found on desktop, as well as an increasing number of desktop ports and an increasing number of ios apps that can also be used on desktop. Apps on iOS tend to be much cheaper than on desktop, in some cases massively so. The main con of ios music making on recent devices is the lack of a headphone jack - Apple are really in our bad books for doing that. It was a disgusting and cynical move to try to force people to buy airpods. Most people get round this by using some sort of interface / dongle or whatever but it can't be underestimated how annoying it is.
    5. Apple may be trying to do this to normalise subscriptions - most ios musicians are heavily anti-subscription when it comes to music production apps, but at this cheap price I'm sure almost everyone will give it a try with the free month, and will feel that $5 a month is fine - If Logic for iPad is not significantly hobbled / buggy / translates poorly to touchscreen etc etc

      Until now NI didn’t make any of their olugins availble on iOS.. Just few desktop big names did it (FabFilter, Eventide, Audio Damage), but most of them not yet.. But there is a plethora of plugins (synths, samplers, effets) available in iOS music apps ecosystem which were exclusively developed for this platform by developers who concentrate just on this platform.

    • @derbinhamler2103

      @@raysubject NI has dabbled in the IOS music market with their iMaschine app. but they deliberately crippled it because they were so concerned that an Ipad equipped with it might cannibalize sales of their Maschine hardware. iMaschine was ultimately scaled back as just a limited sketchpad and way to entice users to buy the desktop Maschine hardware and Expansion packs. NI missed an opportunity to expand into a rapidly growing new market. Since they were sold it appears as if the new owners are primarily looking at short term financial gains rather than being an innovative long term player.

    Next generation- younger users that just need to compose, structure, etc. and then fly stems over for final mix in the studio… TONS of excellent plugins available. I think this is Apple expanding in to the next generation of users as WELL as feeding in to the eventual convergence of MacOS and iPadOS - especially since their silicon and other hardware is already converging. NOW I look forward to running Logic on the new VR/AR headset and tracking/mixing on their next-gen hardware.

Now that brings other problems such as internet connection, but let's see I guess

I see the iPad version of Logic Pro as an extension for the desktop version….. it’s way easier to pull your iPad out to get some song ideas out while away from your studio…. Then fly those tracks into Logic in your studio…. Take a mix from your studio and load it up in the iPad version of Logic to work on the song more while away from the studio…..

    I am a logic, pro user, and however, I am visually impaired. Even though logic Pro is partially accessible to the blind, but I also use another DAW software called reaper, if you ever want to look into reaper in the future, it is completely accessible to the blind studio producer more than anything. Nevertheless, logic Pro for iPad will be a game changer for anyone that’s always on the go and wants a portable studio in their hands, whether they have an iPad or MacBook Pro, or a MacBook Air, logic pro is always going to be there for the producer that’s either on the go or tied to the desktops at home, or anywhere in between. But I think logic pro for iPad will be a huge game changer for anyone that is. Wanting to produce on the run. Especially if you’re on a long distance road trip. This will be very valuable. Or even on long-distance trains, or buses for instants. Logic pro for iPad is a must for heavy producers more than anything. But my main concern for logic, pro as a blind producer, there is not too much accessibility, especially for the flex time and flex pitch, or the quick sampler, or other advanced producer features. That’s why I am more of a heavy reaper user. But I will never completely drop logic all together, I will still use logic, but reaper is my primary DAW studio application.

    • @bigacreations
      @bigacreations  Год назад

      I think it's definitely more of a gamechanger for people starting, not so much for people who already have a studio or macbookpro they use for everything. As for accessibility, that's a great point! I'm not sure how accommodating apple's products are for the visually impaired community. Interested in how that unfolds as it releases.

    • @marcmelendez1396
      @marcmelendez1396 Год назад

      @@bigacreations that’s my main concern when it comes to this new iPad version of logic Pro, and it’s accessibility. Because we do have blind musicians like myself, I’ve been a Music person ever since I was born, I have a heavy passion for music, music runs in my blood. I’ve been producing now since 2012. But I’ve been playing keyboards for many many years, my first one when I was just three, was a miniature Casio SK one keyboard. I was recently introduced to reaper, not too long ago, about two years ago, during the height of the pandemic. And reaper really got the ball rolling for me. Almost everything you could think of within Reaper is 100% accessible, including, automation, compression, EQs, and pitch and pitch editing, and the list just goes on and on. I have recently made a track using reaper. Please note, my tracks are all instrumental. I do sing, but not to be a vocalist, but only for me to come out with ideas for potential songs. I pretty much would produce for any future and music artist. I started in 2012 with a Yamaha MM6 synthesizer, that was my beginner, but then I graduated to the Yamaha motif XF6 in 2013, that was also like my beginner/intermediate machine, then I began in 2014 to use Logic for the very first time and it was then my primary DAW application until reaper took over for me, accessibility, wise.

    There is no comparison between what Apple is doing with the subscription and what Waves did. Zero, Zilch, Nada! Why? Well for starters, Waves had completely changed their purchasing model for the exact same plugins. One day you could buy them outright and then the next day subscription only. For the exact same software. With Apple, this is a brand, spanking new product on a machine it has never been on before. This is the very first time in the history of the earth, that logic will run on iPad. Since it's on an iPad, it's basically a brand new product having been reprogrammed for a touch device. If Apple had changed the desktop Logic to subscription only then that might have bee a valid comparison to the Waves fiasco, but this Logic on iPad is a completely new product. If you have the desktop Logic, nothing is changing. They both can work without the other, so you won't be losing out on anything with the desktop. You still have the same old Logic that we know and love on our computers and now there is an option for Logic on a platform that it has never been on. It's not a must have, unlike the Waves plugins that were bought for a reason and that would have stopped working or stop being updated if Waves had continued with the subscription only model.
    So let's just stop trying to compare Apples (pun intended) and oranges. Nothing similar between Apple and WAVES. And the bloody price of admission is really, really, low. 5 bucks a month or 50 a year and people are still bitching. They were complaining that there were no pro apps on iPad before. They wanted Logic and Final Cut on iPad. Now that they have both on the iPad, they still complain. People!!😧

      I hear what you’re saying, and I’m definitely not saying you cannot make music on the iPad. I think it’s the best mobile device. As far as that goes the tablet world has only brought us disappointment outside of the iPad in my opinion. However, if they are porting over Logic to the iPad without serious consideration for the interface - which I’d imagine they did do, I think that would be a big mistake. I know everybody wants it for some reason, but the interface of the desktop app relies on shortcut keys and a lot of mouse usage… I am assuming most of this can be handled with the pencil, but I also know that it becomes uncomfortable to hold a pencil for long periods of time, especially when you’re using it just to point and click. In the end, I have a feeling what’s going to end up happening to use logic best on the iPad - will result in people carrying around a portable USB or Bluetooth controller, a mouse, an Apple Pencil, a keyboard, for typing in selecting shortcut keys, the power supply for your iPad and other devices… Possibly some new audio interface so that you can record instruments in and use headphones because Bluetooth sucks. By the time we’re done here, having the software on the iPad is moot imo.

    • @raysubject
      @raysubject Год назад

      @@Cap10NRGMusic Problem is you are making sams mistake like most of desktop people, expecting ipad apps are just sized down desktop apps, still thinking about mouse/keyboard as interface .. this is not how it works.. like yeah, some not much good desktop to ios plugins ports where dev didn’t spent time to optimalise interface for touchscreen are like that - but most apps which are build from scratch optimalised for iPad are comfortably controllable just with fingers .. honestly - getting rid out of mouse and keyboard was one of main reasons why in moved with my production from destop to ipad many years ago..
      I am expecting apple will do same level of touchscreen optimalisation for Logic - otherwise they will fail competite with other existing iOS DAWs which are perfectly optimalised for this onterface.
      Regarding apple pencil - it looks nice on Apple promo videos but honestly never needed it, apps i use have perfect user experience by controlling them just with fingers…
      iPad is not “like notebook just without keyboard and with touscreen”. It’s very different working enviroment, i would say it is on the way in the middle between using SW and using actual HW with physical knobs. DAWs on iPad (those properly optimalised) are more like hw workdstations/grooveboxes just with more “DAW-ish” interface .. it’s very different world, different workflow, different approach.
      People expecting Logic experience on iPad will be more or less same like on desktop will be strongly dissapointed, people with opened mind ready to adjust their workflow habits to different paradigm will enjoy it.
      As i said, i work with this enviroment probably 12-13 years, i combine apps with hw synths, and never regret, never missed anything from desktop.
