  • This video demonstrates how to repair bad inputs in the Sanwa JLF. Sometimes only a single direction will break down, and you may be tempted to replace the whole joystick.
    However, a new JLF joystick can run about $22 versus simply replacing the switch for only $3.
    This repair requires basic soldering, and is perfect for a first soldering project.

    Excellent video! I'm thinking about buying a spare JLF PCB and replace the microswitches with better ones, with the hinges. It doesn't seem that hard to do, and if I mess it up, it's just a spare PCB. Thanks!

    You should have used a larger solder tip as it would have heated faster and you would have been able to suck it off faster thus reducing the risk of damaging the PCB.

    Can I use an older switch (UP) and use it on another board for a different direction?

    Jezz, 11yo video. Gotta try my luck anyway: are there a way to solder regular switches onto the JLF's PCB (TP-MA)?

    Nice, thanks for demonstrating. My stick is 3 months old so Im really desapointed that it's allready having problems. Whats hapening is that the diagonal superior right direction is not responding perfecly. Sometimes it just jump up. Do you think in this cases I need to replace the switch it any way or what can it be?

    There is enough clearance to solder the switch back to the PCB while sandwhiched between the JLF body and square gate. This ensures that the switch is perfectly aligned every time.

    I already have an oversized actuator, does anyone know if you can get a larger one OR re-solder these DIPS to get a little lower/closer to the middle?

    I recently bought a new joystick altogether, because the inputs wouldn't register consistently. Sometimes I would hear the click and get nothing unless I pushed even harder. After a few months of use, it's happening again! I didn't even use it much but I'm starting to think it's maybe cos of how I play - or the stick model is off? It's frustrating and costly honestly. I'm on an Atrox for Xbox One. Anyone experience something familiar?

      I had this problem on my new samwa joystick when inputting forward forward down in quick sequence. The down button will stop working for a period of time or until i pressed db or df. I can hear clicking noises, but the input is not registered, have you found the fix?

    Hi, after no playing a long time, i start my PS3 and find all 4 directions not working ._.
    Is it possible that all 4 parts are broken or do you think it's a nother problem ?
    Rest of buttons are working fine. I also didn't notice any problem on the previous session.

    Hi, I have a quick question, All four corners of my SF4 TE have become completely unresponsive. With this being said should i just replace the whole joystick with a new one?

      I have same problem and i can't figure if all 4 switches are dead or if the whole stick is dead ;_;

    I got one of my switchs broke. Would it be convinient to buy a switch from any other brand in any electric shop? I'm in Mexico, so, I don't think they have Sanwa switches avaliable.

    why not just buy a new PCB, don't they cost like $15? why bother doing this when it's much easier to buy a new PCB and pop it back in your stick?

      This is much cheaper and doesn't take much time if you're decent at soldering.
