Hurt my back last week, and only just started learning about fight sticks in the last few days whilst resting. It may be the concoction of pain killers and muscle relaxants I am on right now, but I love this guy’s videos, so interesting and calm.
Thank you so much 🙏 get well soon my friend ❤️
Ive now put all my new found knowledge into practice - now I’ve got a Hori Rap N, modded it with Sanwa buttons and joystick with octagonal gate. Also got my wife a Hori Rap Pro 4 and modded it with the same Sanwa parts. SIIIIIIICK!!!!!!
Wayne Richardson that sounds awesome 🙏❤️ enjoy my friend
Your back is good now?
@@Hlidskialf Yes it’s back to normal now. Thanks.
good job actually pointing out the differences between first and second gen of silent jlf
no sleep it would be the 2nd and 3rd gen, the first gen is discontinued many years ago; thank you for watching ❤️🙏
@@JoystickNY Wassup man! Do you play on PS4 if so what's your online id would like to talk to you about how to have better execution when doing combos on a dpad.
ii Ahahy Bilaash did you get a chance
to check the how to use pad viceo? It is mostly practice, kinda hard to describe it in words ❤️🙏
@@JoystickNY Yes sir that I I wanted to contact you again you made a great and thorough visual example and i wanted to keep in contact with you my email is chookzilla4life@gmail.com and PS4 online kyptheovercomer.
Also I play mk11 so it's kinda tricky to try those tips in that game without maybe your input or visual explanation thru email so I can try it on mk11.
you seem to really know what you are doing and what you are talking about when it comes to arcade stuff, great video, there is a topic or 2 that you may want to explore and speak about in future videos:
1. the different shapes of the restrictors (the circular, octagonal and square) their affect in fighting games vs their affect in lets say run and gun or platform games
2. dead zones, for example the precision of different branded levers and the extra space they may have after the microswitch has clicked, the pros and cons etc.
Thank you, appreciate you, i actually have the topics on my list, but i havent had time to make them yet, might take me a while, my full time job is keeping me busy 😅
Really amazing job explaining about the difference between different sanwa ! Your content is really amazing 🙂
Thank you so much 🙏❤️ will continue to make them better
@@JoystickNY Thanks to you for making such awesome content 🔥
Just getting back in to fighting games and you've been a great help.
Thank you
Love the little transition scenes! Slows down the pace of the video a bit so it's not too rushed but still manages to include a lot of information. Consider me subscribed!
Thank you so much for the support ❤️🙏
great informative vid once again! keep it up, much needed break from the current situation of the world
Yea i be home playing games everyday lol
Thank yoy! I'm discovering your videos and they are unique and very useful!

Thank a lot!!!!!!! :) good job!
wow I didn't know the silent lever was so expensive. I'm glad you pointed out that you are able to just buy the bottom plate. wish I had one I could use to test it out DX
nice vid bro!!
Avv_Gonzo thank you 🙏❤️
Great video keep it up!
Jesus T thank you brother 🙏❤️
Hey!
I am looking forward to see your video about restrictor gates! Most of the people prefer octogonal ones (for obvious reasons) but others say that squared ones are better. Waiting to see your point of view in this matter!
Nice video! :))
Obvious reasons? How so? The reason the square gate it's the standard gate it's more balanced and easier to hit diagonals since has the same percentage distance between all directions while octo gate does not, more info: www.slagcoin.com/joystick/restrictors.html
ArtySh00t thank you ❤️🙏 it maybe take me a while becuz its part of a serie that i m going to do and its kind of in the bottom of the series
Orlando Vieira everyone uses those pictures, but i think those pictures are not correct, because SQUARE doesnt have the same distance to all directions, for [square]the center to a corner is longer than center to a side, the octagon gate actually has All the same distance to all directions, i am going to look in to it abit more, because i feel those diagram are kinda misleading, even tho i have seen them 10 years ago. but i am going to explain it more in my video ❤️🙏
Great video. Very nice details 👌 👍
Terrific, i need silent buttons and joystick but i didn't really know if they existed.
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
If you're confident with your ball/bat top colour then use sparse amount of blue Loctite 242 threadlocker on the base of the threads. You will need rubber/leather to protect the top shaft before clamping down with pliers or channel locks to change-out the ball top.
Thank you for the great info 🙏❤️
Very nice video. The silent one sounds really nice for an mame cabinet with a variety of games.
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️ it will be good playing at night 😊

I need to get myself a silent! Thanks for the info JSNY!
Cpt Ahab anytime ❤️🙏
the 8BYT is not that bad compared to the older model. you can feel the extra tension from it. used it for awhile and combined it with the otto v2 mod. perfect silent feel without worrying with your inputs
Thank you for sharing , good to know 🙏❤️
Thank you again
Thank you for watching ❤️🙏
Honestly, standard Sanwa clicks on the joystick are too satisfying to not use. I love silent (or even better ''thock''-y) switches, but the best thing about my Daija is the sound of that joystick, I love it lol
Yup, i need to hear the clicks when playing fighting games
The silent JLFs come with a slightly larger diameter actuator to the one used in the original as default, the model is: JLF-P-W
Thank you for sharing ❤️
good review and good alternative to the standard Sanwa JLF, but it seems like a hassle.. especially if I go to my local once a week, I don't have the patience to do this every time... I rather wait for phreakmods link ex groove! it doesn't come off too easily but if you need to it comes off in one piece without any screwing or tightening. Also like you said, the shaft cover has to be on, which I don't like aswell!
but now I know I want a Sanwa Silent JLF!
love your channel btw, great content!
Daniel K thank you so much ❤️🙏
Waiting for the next video
gerardo sagastume thank you ❤️🙏
I'm a streamer, so I think I'm gonna buy a set of the Sanwa gen 2 silent buttons and a silent Sanwa stick. I got the Mayflash F300 Elite without really doing much research(had my wisdom teeth removed, was an anesthetic inebriation purchase, ha), would've probably gotten the standard F300 and those silent parts if I'd done my research.
Thanks a ton for the vid! I'm a total noob at fighting games, but Guilty Gear's soundtracks pulled me in recently and I'm looking to dive into the hobby.
Enjoy that my friend, smell of the game is my fav song
@@JoystickNY Good taste! I've had the soundtrack basically on repeat for the past week, it's sooo good. Sky Should Be High is a standout for me.
I got the Mayflash F300 Elite yesterday, broke it in with training and arcade modes. First fight stick, ended up performing pretty well after about an hour of adjustment. I've got a long, long way to go, but sticks are awesome for fighting games.
Whenever I travel or go anywhere with my fight stick I always worry about the lever getting messed up, or it messing something up in my bag. A detachable shaft is a no brainer for me. I saw the reviews and got discouraged. No offense but after watching your video and seeing how is it made, people are just dumb man. You could technically tighten the ball top to the shaft hard enough (or use superglue as someone else stated) that if you went to remove it like a regular ball top, everything would come out in pretty much one piece.
I'm definitely buying a detachable JLF now
Edit: Nevermind I just found the Phreakmods EX-Groove link quick release JLF shaft and I'm happy
Good to know, thank you for sharing
I’m placing Sanwa Sticks and buttons in all my arcade 1 up machines
Its going feel awesome 👍🕹 good choice
Your review is great! Didn't know there are different versions, I wish you could have express the size of springs they come with. Thanks.
I will talk about the springs in a later video thank you
Not gonna lie, that shirt is really cool
Thank you, i like it a lot when i first saw it 🙏❤️
Great vid I've learned alot watching your vids also what game was running in the background
That game is: granblue fantasy versus ❤️🙏
They should've just added a flathead slot on both ends of the shaft. That would solve the main problem cuz then you can really tighten on the balltop.
Sir Charles that makes sense 👍🕹
Great and informative video thank you. I do have a question about the silent lever. Is possible to have the detachable lever as well?
Steven Brena Martinez i believe you can buy both, and just swap out the pcb, and put it over on the detachable one, it should fit. Because they sell the kit for $45 for you to drop it in your lever ❤️🙏 great question
Very great video, pls do the gate restrictor video!!!!
Thank you , Thats on the list to make video, my output is very slow due to work 🙏❤️ but slowly working toward it
Another fantastic video, I am in the market for a replacement Sanwa stick but I am worried about the ones you've shown. The bottom of my stickshaft (where it contacts with the microswitches) is made from rubber, and that rubber has worn.
Are both ones made of rubber for the video shown here?
Any help would be awesome !
Your videos are amazing and got me into ordering a mayflash. I also got a sanwa joy stick. Although I am curious about something. If you rotate the microswitches does that change the joystick direction, or it doesnt matter if you rotate it?
Thank you for the kind words 🙏❤️ I am assuming you mean rotating the 4 micro switches on the small computer chip pcb? if that is the case; it will change the directions
Great video as always my dude! Have you tried the phreakmods detachable lever yet & if so is it reliable?
Obese-Juan Kenobi Great question, i have not, but i shall have a review and compare soon, let me add it to my list ❤️🙏 thank you
@@JoystickNY , I heard a while ago they have a version two model coming out that is improved. =)
I own a phreakmods link for all 3 of my fightsticks, they are great and feel great. You can still use dust covers with them (but no shaft cover).
Thank you for the info 🙏
Good to know, i ll probably look into detachable lever in the future thank you
Maybe if the dust washer was metal, you could use it as a tool for removing the shaft when it doesn't unscrew with the ball top.
That is a good idea
I’m loving all these videos , where can i get the silent stick or maybe the two parts that makes it silent since those cost less
Thank you 🙏❤️ i mainly shop on these website for arcade parts, focus attack, arcade shock, and paradise arcade shop,
You can buy the silent pcb with the switches for less, and just install it on your regular sanwa
Do you know if there are any sanwa sticks that have those little blades on the micro switches or if it's possible to put the blades on them? I think having those on the switches will help me more when hitting the corners since the two sanwa I have keep missing the corner inputs way too much when playing anything.
If you break the warranty sticker, the warranty is still valid. It has been ruled that warranty stickers violate the warranty act so they are just trying to gaslight the customers.
Good to know, thank you
Hello, can you do a video regarding tension springs please, I am a tekken player and have a Sanwa silent stick with square restrictor gate, I am unsure what the original spring it comes with. I am a mishima player and i feel the stick is not going back to neutral quick enough. I see there are 2lbs, 3lbs, 4 and 6lbs .Thanks
Wait, is there a difference in feel in fighting games when using a shaft/dust cover vs not using them? I figured it was solely to keep dust and wear/tear down. I didn't think it made a difference
Bogart Gaming & Tech game play wise, i dont think it affect it, but i find it more comfortable with out the shaft cover, i keep dust cover on.
If i have standard Jlf, And If I need to be silent, I just have to switch Microswitches? or Do I need to buy the whole package
Fyi: breaking a warranty sticker cannot by itself void a warranty by law, in the US at least. Only if the manufacturer can prove you broke the device by removing that can they no longer replace it if it's under warranty.
Great info, thank you, i didnt even know that
I got the second one with the silent microswitch its really nice in my drone with the sanwa buttons but I plan on getting the silent buttons too great video with their be a video on restrictor gates ?
Yes, its in a later episode of the mod your lever series, will take me more time
to get to becuz i am going on a timeline 🙏❤️
4:52 "so as you guys can hear"
Me: 👂???????
Lol
I want that Sanwa Tshirt
I think i got it off arcadeshock, it was on sale, not sure if its still available ❤️🙏
Hey JoystickNY, I want to thank you for all your videos. They are all awesome!
I have a question that can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I installed a sanwa jlf into my hori rap4. When I put on the sanwa jlf shaft cover on the stick, it is too long. It actually goes above the threads. I shaved off a few mm of the length of the shaft cover so it will perfectly but now my stick feels a bit more restrained. Do you know what's wrong? I noticed in your sfv trial tutorials it seems like you don't use a shaft cover? I also see that you still use a dust cover but wouldn't it be loose without a shaft cover for your rap4? Please help. I may end up not using a shaft cover at all. I just like the look and feel of shaft cover though. Thanks!! This was long!
Good observation, you actually dont need to use a shaft cover, it makes the shaft bulkier for no reason, it is mainly used in the arcades to prevent people from breaking the lever. You have the options to remove it, but you are right, after u remove the shaft cover, the dust cover washer becomes lose because there is more room in the middle. You just need to get dust cover that has a smaller hole, there are 2 of them, 1 for the naked shaft; one to use with a shaft ❤️ hope that helps
@@JoystickNY really glad I saw this! Thanks for the info! Just got a blue rap4, and am putting a jlf in it
Good choice, cant go wrong with a RAP4, my daily stick 👍🕹
Hey, would you make tutorial on Mortal Kombat please?
The Sonic Activist sorry to say that i actually never got in to mk, because i didnt like the graphic bloddy images, wish there was an option to turn it off
I would like a better detachable joystick from sanwa, storage is important.
OmnipotentPeaceMan At home is okay, becuz we have tools, but outside probably hard to take it out if it gets stuck ❤️🙏
@@JoystickNY do you have any idea's how to make it better?
OmnipotentPeaceMan i would just buy 2 tiny flat head screw driver, like finger size , keychain size, and carry it around just in case,
I'm looking to buy Sanwa joystick what one should I buy what's the best
Nice video bro ❤
Who is the best joystick in your opinion?
Sanwa JLX TPML Or Qanba JOV8S ???
I can't decide ٫ i don't know which one to buy
For me is going to be JLX, qanba is oding asking for that much for a lever
Hey man when are posting the video for restrictor plate??
It might take me a while, been working alot , and there a few video ahead of it ❤️🙏
Hey, JoystickNY. I enjoy watching your videos. They're very helpful.
At 6:14, you say that the silent jlf version- other than the high tension version- has the same tension as a standard jlf lever. But on the ISTMall website they say it's more softer than the standard. Are you for certain that they have the same tension? I'd sure love a verification as I'm seeking to purchase a lower tension one. They're apparently restocking on those this week.
Thanks in advance!
The website might be correct, i dont use the silent jlf, that lever was mainly use to demo this video, i cant play without the clicks, it felt very close to me, therefore i didnt think they would actually change the spring on it, but good observation 👍 i personally use the default spring on the regular JLF
@@JoystickNY I asked istmall if they had stock springs and they said no, but will ask his supervisor. Then I got a call back and they've told me they stocked up on 50 default stock springs. I ordered two today and am getting them tomorrow since I'm in S. Korea! So South Korean residents, if you're looking for default sanwa spring- this will be the one and only place to get it. Of course you can purchase on foreign arcade stick parts online websites. That is only if you're willing to spend 17~60 dollars on shipping and wait a whole lot. I've said a lot. Sorry for the long post. Just watchin' your guys' backs.
Thank you for the great info, always helps 🙏❤️
Can I use a 8 gate on the silent JLF?
Still wondering why they don't sell the one piece gate as an aftermarket part.
izayoi9300 because the interchangeable gate is better, you can change it switch the gates around.
Hello
What do you think about sanwa JLW ? What are the differences between JLF and JLW ? Thanks !!!
The jlw is abit less popular, from what i know, it has a diff looking square gate, a thicker shaft; and a different plate for different types of mounting. And the spring is a bit tighter 🙏❤️
Is sanwa jlf-8ft a good lever,please tell???
After some quick research, the silent JLF is unable to work with octo gates and official warnings state it can cause permanent damage. While I’d love silent joysticks, I’ve decided octo gate is more important than playing at night. I could be wrong and this comment could be outdated
You are right, for the silent lever, somehow if you take out the blue gate, it can break the lever, strange design
Would the silent jlf just be a simple plug and play install for a hori rap 4??
Yes, it has the same 5 pin connector 👍🕹
@@JoystickNY Thank you!! i will order one
I have the mayflash f300 where can I get decals for my fight stick to give it some personality thanks for the advice.
I am not sure if the f300 has decals, becuz the top layer doesnt come off, the only thing u can do is print a sticker and over lay it ❤️🙏
What is the game you play in this video? looks cool 👀
That game is gran blue fantasy versus
As someone who’s not knowledgeable at all about sticks at all,,, is a restricted gate necessary or can you run a stick without a gate
Is a must, or else your input are mess up, think of it like a car shift stick, if there is no click to D R N, it would not be effiicent
I think the Victrix FS Pro has the best solution of detachable Sanwa joystick. Is it an exclusive model only for Victrix?
You are right, its not sold separately, victrix manufacture it only for the stick ❤️🙏
@Jordi Garcia The Victrix FS Pro uses Phreakmod's Link 2.
Great video I have a question can I just put a sanwa stick to a quamba board without any extra work like cutting cables or soldering?
You can use an adaptor cable, its in my mod qanba drone video
@@JoystickNY thank you watching your videos helped me to upgrade my arcade joystick
Hello my friend, I just bought an arcade stick and I had a question. With the washer are you supposed to be able to move it up and down the lever? Or is it supposed to be tight and secure at the base without being able to move it? I feel as though mine is faulty. Thx in advance.
Faizan Sheikh hey great question, the washer comes in 2 sizes, 1 smaller size that fits with the shaft, and 1 bigger size that will fit with the shaft cover. Its suppose to slide up and down freely, its just to block off dust, but if you are using the bigger hole cover with the metal shaft, then you can see extra space around the circle, then you need to find the washer with smaller hole, let me know if you have more questions ❤️🙏
@@JoystickNY Thx a lot I understand now. One more question, which is your favourite arcade stick at the moment, regardless of price? Lastly I have subscribed to your channel :).
Faizan Sheikh i think my favorite arcade stick is the Hori Rap 4, its been the stick i use most of the time, and i use hori hayabusa parts alot too; because i like how light and loose hayabusa parts are ❤️🙏 thank you
I tried to put the sanwa jlf on my new brand hori alpha xbox arcade stick but it doesn't fit. I cannot close the case. Any solution? Thanks
Let me double check
Interesting. Those clicky sounds on the stick annoy me tbh. I don't really like them. Maybe cause I am used to those older arcade sticks without the clicky sound which is what I grew up learning. Nice knowing there is a silent option. Definitely for me when I switch out the current stick for sanwa at some point. But.... yeah Im not sure about the price. If budget is not an issue for me I will go for it, otherwise I don't think it is worth it. Too expensive.
I feel you, thank you for the comment
@@JoystickNY you're welcome. ty for the content youve been a real help :)
Hi, I've got a question if you have a minute. I've got an Arcade 1 up Defender partycade (tabletop) game and in the real Defender game the joystick only goes in two directions, up and down. The stick feels a little short as well, can you suggest what joystick I might purchase to upgrade in my game? Again, needing a longer two way joystick. I'm new to all this, so many thanks.
Sorry my friend, i am not quite familiar with the arcade 1 up hardwares, have you try installing a sanwa lever and just buying a 2 way restrictor gate for the directions
Is it possible to swap out the detachable shaft base and combine it with the Silent JLF PCB?
Great question, i havent tried it yet, i never thought of that
I ll try it one day and see 🙏❤️
Did you have created the restrictor´s video that you mentioned in this video?
Not yet, 😢i am very behind schedule due to work, and i am kinda rotating around on diff videos, might take me abit longer 🙏
Where can I buy the detachable one? Thanks
The metal washer in my Sanwa Joystick keeps traveling outside of the notch in the plastic base when I rotate the joystick. How do I fix this? Is this a known issue?
Not that i know of; feel free to send me a pic on ig
I have a hori fight stick alpha . I want to upgrade to joystick and button. Which sanwa items are compatible?
Sanwa JLF and 30 mm sanwa buttons
Sanwa's Detachable lever is so stupid. The best solution is there -- Phreakmods The Link, a shaft costs as much as a whole lever part. Sanwa should make its own quick release design.
1116Jin i dont use any detachable links, but if i was to choose one, i actually prefer sanwa’s one, because i dont like the phreakmods shaft, i like the thin straight shaft ❤️🙏
what is the difference between the regular micro switches and the cherry microswitches ?
Cherry are more customizable , u can get them silent, clicky, some clicky, faster actuation, less distance after press to active etc, i do have a video on my list, i will have the video this year when i get some time off from work 😊
Cuál es el tamaño de los actuadores de ambos? Hay alguna diferencia en el recorrido de la palanca?
I am using the default actualor
can you not just use a wrench to secure the base while you turn the shaft screw at the top with a screwdriver?
I think is possible, just try not to scratch or dent it
what is "SANWA DENSHI GT-Y OCTAGONAL Restrictor Plate" ?
I am trying to buy a Mayflash Arcade Fightstick F500 Elite but the accessories .. I am contemplating
Its a restrictor gate with 8 corners;’some people like it better than the square, is a preference thing
@@JoystickNY have you tried both?
I want to hear about your personal preference
Yes i tried both, i like the square, the octagon feels abit wider to me, i prefer a smaller travel; i will make a video on gates later on
Yeah.. that detachable sanwa seems like they were trying to edge in on the phreakmods market while doing a much worse solution.
BlueMenpachi i actually prefer this over the phreakmod tho 🤣
Any video on the restrictor gate yet?
Yes is episode 5 of this serie, next video will be shafts
I would like to know where I can find this model of restrictor with this blue color
i think i got it on focus attack, paradise arcade or arcade shock
@@JoystickNY ok thank you
silent...but deadly
So true 😉
where did u get the shirt from my guy 👌
WeirdDude Castillo i got it from arcade shock website when i was buying parts, they have a cloth section 🙏❤️
JoyStickNY looks nice
it has a higher actuation force
Thank you for watching 🙏❤️
Im thinking of switching from pad to stick. Dince Im new to this stuff, what gate do you reccomend?
I personally prefer and recommend square gate, i will have a video on that too ❤️🙏
Do you think it would work with characters in street fighter 5 like rashid?
Yup, square works with everyone, possible better too, i will have a video on gates later on ❤️🙏
Heya, I am new to the scene and was wondering. Why is it suggested to not use a different gate with the silent JLF? Has anyone tried a full circle or octagon gate? Thank you in advance for the help!
The website warns that taking off the gate will damage the lever. I am not sure why they designed it like that. But i think you can just buy a silent pcb with switches and put it on a normal sanwa jlf.
@@JoystickNY tyty! Yeaaaaaa my roomies don't like my "aggressive" clicking late nights. To bad mom and dad xD Thank you for giving me the alternate solution! ::Cheers!::

but is the Sanwa Detachable compatible with mad catz TE 2? that is, I take out and put this stick
Yup, all 3 fit the same, just 1 is no sound, 1 is detach, they all fit like the regular sanwa jlf 🙏❤️
Quick question: What is its ref. number? :) Edit: Found it - JLF-TPRG-8BYT-SK.
