Thank you so much for this, I got into Daredevil comics because of your videos. You really show effort in all of your videos and you look beyond of what you find in a page. It's rare to find someone this dedicated to this kind of thing. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.
The Netflix Daredevil series was the one adaptation that manage to get the characters, the plot, the background and the environment right and it was brilliant. It's really sad now that it was stupidly cancelled after three successful seasons and a crossover series.
I am happy we got 3 full seasons that tell a perfect story that resolvs all its important arcs. It ended well. Even if it lasted longer, it wouldn't necessarily have continued to be so good. I'm just happy we got a full series that started and ended well
"Its not just because of the boy. I'm doing this because I enjoy it" - This line perfectly encapsulates Matt Murdock's motivations to put his body on the line to fight crime in the night. The sheer thrill of violence makes him feel alive. Sure, he wants to ensure that no innocents have to suffer like he did, but he enjoys it as well. The new Daredevil comic from Chip Zdarsky touches on this aspect too.
@@queencityminis oh no, he definitely meant it. Maybe not entirely in the way he implied it in that scene, but ya don't do wut Matt does without feeling a little enjoyment (as weird as it sounds).
Pretty sure they made it clear he doesn’t actually enjoy it. Like Batman he takes out his anger out on criminals but doesn’t find sadistic pleasure in it
@@yeemcgee8149 while I like season 3, and I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I liked season 1 more. The cinematography plays much better into the gritty crime drama. It tries for a more epic and loud feel, but I felt the show was much better with gritty and dirty, if that makes any sense.
Sure. I think they’re all great in their own right. I just really like kingpin/ wilson Fisk so seeing a more classic kingpin in season 3 was really cool. But season one is excellent too. Even season 2 is great although it’s the weakest season imo
In my opinion its better than any MCU movie. The Disney+ shows have their work cut out for them if they want to come close to matching the quality of Daredevil Netflix.

I have to argue with you there. The best superhero show of all time was The Greatest American Hero! Best superhero cartoon? Turbo-Kid from the 80s. Total garbage. Best broody, gritty, superhero adaptation, I'll give you that. I loved it, but it wasn't nearly as awesome as the ones previously stated.
This show is an absolute masterpiece. Brilliant adaptation of a brilliant character. Charlie Cox captures the dichotomies raging within Matt Murdock so perfectly. Really, the whole ensemble combined with the writing and general direction (plus that inspired cinematography) creates for one of the greatest television shows ever, especially for a comic book show. Also, fantastic analysis, as ever, Matt.
I LOVE your form of speak English. I'm not English but I understand all your words, that's a thing for being gratefull to this channel. You watch comicbooks stuff and learn English too. God job, man.
There's a followup to this in Season 2 through Matt's interactions with Frank Castle. Frank is the kind of man Matt could have become if he ever killed and Castle knows how horrifying that is. So when Matt starts talking about killing just one time, Frank takes the choice out of his hands to save him...possibly in a way Frank wishes someone had done with him.
@Daredevil Lebron He did...and then later he shoved Matt off that boat before Matt could follow through on that brilliant idea to kill "just one time" (which it never is). You'll also notice Frank wanted Matt to let him handle it, not for the latter to imitate the former. The message from Frank is crystal clear: no one with a chance to be better than him follows him down the same road.
It really did pretty much everything right. It got the action right. It got the characters right. It got the romance right. It was dramatic and effective in its twists and turns. Where it goes with characters like the Russian are places that feel fresh and alive and not generic television plotting. In fact, it really reminded me of the first season of Breaking Bad. When you get to the second or third episode and it goes into the situation of Crazy-8... it feels surprising and unexpected and dramatically gripping. You're caught off guard because it doesn't go through the expected motions, and there's nothing to do but watch with bated breath and see exactly how deep the rabbit hole goes. That's exactly the same way I felt about this first season of Daredevil. You don't know what's going to happen and you don't know how the characters will react and deal with it. That's a treasure. Even with a character that could've been a cheap caricature like Marci, the show goes and shows that no, it can elevate that past your expectations and refuse to take the easy road. Instead of being a throwaway gag, Marci turns into a real person who has reactions and feelings and something beyond the shallow exterior. It's these little things that add up and really make you appreciate the deft execution of this show. The producers said they were inspired by the Bourne films, and that's completely evident right from the beginning. The hired assassin that tries to get Karen, as well as the bowling alley hitman, are completely analogous to the various "assets" that go hunting after Bourne. It's okay though, because when you really think about it... was Nuke from Miller's "Born Again" really all that different from the superhuman Bourne "assets?" With Daredevil, it gave us Marvel's best supervillain in the Kingpin. It probably gave us Marvel's best romantic interest in Karen Page. It's given us the best realization of a Marvel setting. The Hell's Kitchen depicted in this show wholly does justice to the Hell's Kitchen that we've seen from Miller and other acclaimed DD writers. It is the suffocating cesspool of corruption that we read about. It does feel like the Kingpin is a grand puppetmaster pulling on strings, or a big fat spider, sitting at the center of a tremendous web of crime and graft and everything unsavory you can imagine. Gradually through the season, the entire landscape somehow morphs from a brightly lit New York into one long trail of corpses leading up to Wilson Fisk's penthouse. That's the Hell's Kitchen that we know from the comics, the one that Miller so marvelously crafted with his narrative power. Even in great past superhero movies like Nolan's TDK... we're told about the police corruption, but we never really see it. It's not encompassing and enveloping the way it is here. It doesn't wallow in it the way that Daredevil does. Daredevil goes and shows you exactly why you shouldn't utter the Kingpin's name. It shows you why people are afraid, and how far the Kingpin's reach is. Well, okay... so they didn't get the red Daredevil costume right. They botched that one. But that's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Marathoning Daredevil over a weekend was truly one of the most enjoyable and impactful entertainment experiences of the last couple years.

Something I have noticed, and which bothers me, is that DD's comic costume is just spandex, even the hood. There's no armor to ut, which makes it seem kinda pointless for a guy with no superpowers.) The image is great, but.... Do you prefer the DD on the chest? I get having it there, but I also appreciate that it's not. Giving Daredevil an emblem in the show would have felt forced, imo. The emblem is more so people can recognize the superhero. Murdock doesn’t need one---he's the only guy running around in all red. It would seem odd for DD to have that DD emblem in the show---wouldn't match the show's tone. Emblems, to me, seem more like a marketing scheme. Superman's S or Batman's bat helps sell merch. But if each hero's costume is distinct, there is no need for a stylized symbol. None of the other Marvel heroes have a stylized symbol; giving Matt one would have felt odd. I still like the symbols/letters heroes jave on their clstumes, mind. But I also like their not having them. 🤷♀️

9:19, The capacity for guilt and shame being the focus on what truly divides Matt and Wilson rather than their lethality or the extent of their extralegal activities is a welcome perspective. Even Matt and Frank have more dividing them than their methods, as what truly separates them is Matt’s compassion and subsequent restraint contrasted against Frank’s utter surrender ro his hatefulness and use of violence as an indulgence to escape his grief and feelings of powerlessness at the loss of his family. And in the end, it’s Matt’s humility and ability to accept his failures towards his friends, his fear of loss, his use of religion as a feeble excuse to vent his rage on socially acceptable targets that saves Daredevil from succumbing to the same rage, hatred, despair and pride that consumed Wilson and Frank. Matt’s will and virtue prevail and his faith is renewed stronger than before.
Okay this is the best superhero show of any kind I’ve ever seen. Daredevil’s my favorite hero ever, and Charlie Cox played him perfectly. Gotta rewatch the whole series now, here we go.
I’ll be honest I’ve only seen the first two episodes of the show and it’s been a real long time. But I do plan to watch the whole show at some point. But I’m glad that with the Daredevil show, more people in the general public are realizing how truly amazing Daredevil is. Especially after the garbage fire that was the 2003 Ben Affleck movie. And I’m kind of disappointed that Kevin Feige has pretty much made the Netflix shows not canon in the MCU. And considering Marvel Television is closed that’s more of a bad sign. Good to see this Darecember end on a high note. Will this be the final video of 2019?
The interesting thing about season 1 of Daredevil, is that his no-kill rule is technically never established. It's not yet a hard rule like it is for Batman, before season 2 and 3, I'm pretty damn sure that Matt never outright states he doesn't kill people. But the moral talk is still so prevalent that we already kind of know he doesn't. We don't know that Matt refuses to kill, but we know that he doesn't kill. We already know that he isn't the kind of person who would kill anyone from how he talks about everything else and his actions.
This is the best marvel netflix show imo and is my favorite superhero show. The show perfectly captures the duality of Matt Murdock and Daredevil and the strife and sacrifices he's had to make to protect hell's kitchen. Matt Murdock/Daredevil is such a great character with a lot of depth and layers and how he is often finding himself questioning the morality in what he's doing. One gripe with the show is that I wish they'd show his radar sense more often and how he uses it in combat or for stealth. However, literally every other aspect of the show is phenomenal. Just a great character all around and I've been loving all your daredevil videos and I love all your in-depth videos about comic characters and storylines. I'm curious to know if you'll do more videos on classic silver age marvel comic storylines such as spider-man no more or even an android can cry. Stuff like that to really highlight the genius of silver age marvel because I feel it's honestly undervalued and underappreciated by some people and remains one of my personal favorite eras in marvel comics.

this show and spider-verse are the only ones that make you feel like the creators were heavily inspired by the comics, I can feel Bill Sienkiewicz and Alex Maleev art in this series, its such a shame that other super heroes shows or movies does not give you the same feeling as this one, even when the original source material is drawn by a spectacular artist.

14:29 Foggy was the only character of the 3 mains I didn't like. His constant "Matt you shouldn't be Daredevil" speeches got on my nerves. And there were times when he seemed really greedy to the point where he was willing to defend people he knew were guilty just to get some extra money. Innocent means you haven't done any horrible things or committed a serious crime but the "genius" Mr Nelson thought it meant anyone who hadn't been convicted of a crime which by his logic would mean a serial killer who'd killed loads of people but hadn't been convicted of it would somehow mean that said killer was innocent of those murders even though he wouldn't have been. Convicted or not he'd be guilty.

I mean it only came out yesterday but ok
Just started rewatching daredevil on season 3 thanks
Okay this is the best superhero show of any kind I’ve ever seen. Daredevil’s my favorite hero ever, and Charlie Cox played him perfectly. Gotta rewatch the whole series now, here we go.
What an excellent conclusion to Darecember. Nicely done as always, Matt
Absolutely perfect analysis!
I literally just discovered you’re channel and I’ve been on binge watch ever since. Incredible channel!
Holy crap this was so well put together. Great video!
I loved the editing and messages of the video. great job
That was awesome. Please do more character focused series like this. I always look forwards to your work
Hopefully in December 2020, we'll be finally talking about how Daredevil was announced to go into the MCU with Charlie Cox and cast in their roles
Our wish came true
@@arc4859 It's beautiful to see!
@@BTmethius now he’s getting his show

@@larryfoulkeofficial8609 No he wasn’t
Definitely check out the rest of the series! Yep, this is the final video of the year.
It is Canon to the MCU.
In episode 7 he tells Stick not to kill anyone. That’s pretty direct if you ask me.
In episode 7 he tells Stick not to kill anyone. That’s pretty direct if you ask me.
He flat out tells Ben Urich he does not kill
Anthony Garcia ik a DC Idiot who says DC has better movies than marvel and that marvel doesn’t have any risks in their movies and nobody really does and DC is so cool because they are dark and risky because in apparently in the Dark Knight, people are dying and Batman beats up the joker and shit. And says DC has better tv shows and he “tried” watching the first season of Daredevil (which would answer all of his complaints about the MCU) but said it “wasn’t that good”!!! People are ignorant!!!
Another amzing video! Darecember was really cool. Is Daredevil your favorite superhero because you're both named Matt?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Yep, that's pretty much the only reason I like Daredevil.
That was the best video essay of Daredevil on the entire internet
So true!
this show and spider-verse are the only ones that make you feel like the creators were heavily inspired by the comics, I can feel Bill Sienkiewicz and Alex Maleev art in this series, its such a shame that other super heroes shows or movies does not give you the same feeling as this one, even when the original source material is drawn by a spectacular artist.
Ayman not even the animated dc shows besides teen titans go
@@jagtech490 by DC animated series you mean the recent ones, because the old batman the animated, Superman the animated series and the justice league were very great ; especially with Bruce Timm excellent character designs.
@@TheAyman1825 alan moore the man who despise pretty much everything likes the adaptation of his work on the show
@@paulakroy2635 do you have a source proving that, because I saw the show and there are a lot of plot holes in it. don't get me wrong I like some of it's elements (like seventh cavalry taking Rorschach journal as their bible for white supremacy) but it also shares a lot of the same problems that Lost had.

The world on fire is not about his anger. His world is hell, his world is guilt and he is the devil, he has the burden to face this awful place.
This is the quality content I live for.
Insightful, interesting, outstanding and beautiful as always!
I love this video, it may be your best work.
You've been covering a bit of Daredevil lately it feels and i fucking love it!
this show deserves more attention it’s so great
Matt Draper, lawyer by day, content creator by night.
Matt Draper can you do a video about love and war, Elektra assasin or the Elektra saga?
Someday!

This is so damn good.
NOW YOU'RE COVERING THE SERIES?!!? My goodness this is the Month of DD!! :D
Excellent I love this
Great video
Damn good video
Think about maybe doing the Iron Fist story Seven Capital Cities of Heaven?
Daredevil is my favorite superhero. I like this DD kick your on please give us more
I absolutely love this show and your video is great
"God DAMN, this boy (Matt Draper) is good!" First words out of my mouth at the end of the video. You did a great job. Hope to see you do season 2 & 3
Thanks! They will definitely happen.
I love your videos man, easily one of the best in this genre on this website. easily. do you think you could maybe do a video on something like Grant Morrison’s Batman: Gothic?
9:51 Fisk kidded himself he wasn't like his dad Bill but he was worse than him.
People are saying it's the best superhero show but it deserves more props and I have decided it's now my favorite, before The Sopranos and Mad Men. It's a neo-noir Western, a competent crime drama, a working class manifesto, a character study of abuse and morality.
The greatest comic book adaptation of all time. Hopefully by the end of the year we get a Season 4 announcement.
hopefully Matt appears in Spider-Man 3 as Peter's lawyer
Welp
Beautiful, just beautiful. What a fantastic video, keep it up 👍.
I love Daredevil and your videos analyzing his escapades, but could we have a video about something else? I'm still waiting on an Invincible Iron Man or Spider-Man video.
I’ve done quite a few Spider-Man videos.
@@MattDraper I meant to say another Spider-Man video. Thanks for replying. I admire and respect your work. Your video about Los Angeles in films saved my research essay and its amoung my favorites. Thank you for doing what you do.

Great video man
Loved the edition of this video
I was not expecting actual Scripture to be used. I'm impressed.
Please make season 2 and season 3 videos 🙏🏼
Daredevil is The Dark Knight of superhero TV shows, in that it's more than just a good superhero adaptation. It's something that people who just like a good TV show can watch. It has something to say.

Love the biblical references! God bless

Could you do a video on Jeff Lemire's Moon Knight run? I feel like a video about that run would be perfect on your channel
It will happen for sure in the coming year.
My only pet peeve with DD is that Matt introduces himself to Fr Lantham in season 1 but in Season 3, he’s known Matt his entire life.
Any chance of any Punisher videos?
It's a shame they killed off Ben Urich near the end of Season 1 because he's an important supporting character in the comics.
Right? Like damn imagine that ben met spider-man smh
Please do a video on season 2 and 3, I loved this video
Bravo sir.
Hey man, you should do a video on Maus. One of the greatest comics of all time!
The First season of DD is based on Black suit

I can't wait to see what Disney does with Daredevil
The Question maybe Mark Waid’s Run?
Fun Fact :- Charlie Cox will play Daredevil in Spider-Man 3, appearing with a Big Twist. Daredevil SAVED !!!

Can you do season 2 and 3
14:29 Foggy was the only character of the 3 mains I didn't like.
Xehanort10 why does Fisk think he is doing the best for NY by becoming a mob boss and hurting innocent people?
He thought destroying the slums and rebuilding would make a better New York.
Xehanort10 would it really though?
I think killing ben urich off was a huge mistake such a compelling actor and character
