Something I don't think is brought up enough: After the Defenders, Matthew continues his fight as Daredevil, but he loses his desire to be God's soldier. He loses his righteousness and is motivated by his anger at Fisk and society at large. He essentially becomes what Elektra wanted him to be without killing anyone. One interpretation is that he's acting out his grief for her by being what she wanted even though it's bad for him. It's not said, but it might be a subconscious thing. Idk.
I wish Elektra was brought up at least one more time in the season, just to show his grief for her, although her, and Stick were brought up a few times. Matt was down, and felt the defeat he went through in the defenders right off the bat, he just went to a really selfish place real fast, when he had people that still loved and cared about his well being. It just shows how far grief, and isolation, not to mention severe injuries, hence Matt temporarily losing his senses, and witnessing Elektra’s second death would drive someone over the edge. With Fisk scheming out of prison, manipulating the FBiI, and Dex to become a psychopath along the way, it’s understandable why he’d want to give up his regular life, and just go full Daredevil. Matt is someone who actually cares deep for his friends, and his connection to God, so his whole life is all about trial and tribulation. There’s major turning points in his life where Matt feels like he has to sink real low before he can see the light, it’s a total catholic guilt thing he has to go through in order to cleanse his soul. Born Again was the perfect comic book story that explored his deconstruction, and spiritual rebirth, this season adapted pretty well.
In my humble opinion, this is not only the best season of Daredevil, it's one of Marvel's best projects period. I know it's unjust cancellation was likely to make way for the characters to join the MCU, since contractually it had to end several years before they were allowed to use the characters again, but it's still mind boggling that they aren't pushing harder to bring back this masterpiece of a show.
I do agree, it does suck that now they have the rights to they haven't instantly made us aware of plans for season 4, but there is a lot of hope to be gained from their little cameo's in the widely accepted MCU. I think we will get him back, and hopefully we will in a satisfying way for us fans of what they've created with season 1-3.
Season 3 is actually my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I still love it and the story is great, but the action was a step down from seasons 1 and 2 and I wasn’t a fan of how they dropped the neo-noir style
I agree! While I am happy to see them in the MCU, daredevil in the kingpin respectively, they’ll never match what they did here! Even though I wanted to season four so bad, I’m cool if they never make another daredevil series! Except for the bull’s-eye stuff, it’s pretty much wrapped up everything!
They're going to make us wish it stayed cancelled once they have Daredevil cowering to Typhoid Mary and barely able to take on the tracksuit Mafia by himself
I wonder what would happen if Matt Murdock and Saul Goodman faced off in the courtroom with Saul defending a criminal and Matt representing the victim. The good man, lawyer and vigilante vs the scumbag lawyer and con man.
Gotta give Erik Oleson some credit. Watch the interview that he did for the Marvel RUclips channel. It’s easy to search. He talked about how he 1. Wanted everyone to be their own main character. Really shows in the season as everyone feels important. 2. Wanted to only have fight scenes when they called for it. While the fights aren’t anything new from what we’ve seen in the show. It just hits so hard when they happen. Really smart way of doing things. 3. He mentioned how he went with something called “deep point of view”. Where each scene opens with a certain character in the first frame and ends with the same character in the last frame. He explains it better than I have. All this really goes to show the amount of attention put into this season!
Thing is, I don't really buy that this narrative structure worked for S3. Nothing about Karen Page's arc was all that different from what she did in S1. And Foggy's whole storyline about becoming District Attorney felt extremely tacked on. S3 would have been way better if it ditched it for a more basic linear structure, so we can get more focus on Matt's development. But he vanishes from the narrative for almost entire episodes.
Deep pov goes way beyond what Erik said, but in execution they still did perfect. It's a challenge of what elevates stories to their core. Raw and powerful.
I feel like Poindexter (Bullseye) was a terrific and underrated villain for this season. I think honestly they brought a lot of sympathetic depth to that character that otherwise isn't really there (at least for me) in the comics. Personally my favourite interpretation of the character in any medium.
100% the opposite for me... he was genuinely the worst part the entire series in my opinion... everything from him killing his coach with a single baseball strike to the head to his horrible excuse for a therapist, or Kingapins pathetic head games... it was the least believable part of the entire series... and Daredevils fight scenes with Bullseye were also some of the dumbest ever put into a serious show. bullseye is supposed to by accurate, not have the ability to put more kinetic energy into an object than humany possible... and daredevil basically ran headlong into everything thrown at him when dodging should have be childs play. but its hard to dodge when they also give Bullseye his own fucking radar/spidey senses, he literally tracked Daredevila movements through walls like it was nothing...
I think this is a perfect season of television, a lot of people didn’t like the pace of other seasons of Netflix Television, this one felt like a 13 hour movie, just perfect. Two things I love especially is that Matt lives in the basement of a church, a defiance of his God, I will live in your house, but I refuse to be a part of it, effectively making his own Hell underneath, until he ends the season giving Lantom’s Eulogy. I also love that Maggie prays to Jack in Heaven, it’s her Son who’s stuck in “Hell” that ends up hearing her prayer. This season beautifully juxtaposed a lot of different things, I need to do a rewatch.
This season really showed what Kingpin is truly capable of. Just the sense of control he has for people and the ways he goes about manipulating them and slowly bending them to his will. Which makes his MCU debut in “HAWKEYE” so underwhelming where he was just a brute. Heres hoping they get him right in Echo or a new Daredevil series or movie in the future.
In Hawkeye he was made to look like a complete dumbass who was dressed like he'd just come back from a holiday. For some reason they also made him superhuman and had him walk off being hit by a car even though comic and Netflix Fisk are normal men despite their size and strength. The show's adaptation of the storyline of Echo blinding him sucked too.
....And then 2 years later, Echo comes out and the writers under Disney once again fail to truly understand Wilson Fisk. Echo's failure really puts Born Again in jeoprady.
Hey Matt. I would like to thank you so much for the Daredevil videos you make. As a blind person myself, I really enjoy hearing about the comics and stories of Matt Murdock. You would like to know wether or not to continue these videos? My answer is, please do. Through these videos, you are bringing awareness and respect to the blind community. So please continue doing these Daredevil videos. And also like you, Daredevil is my favorite hero as well.
@Daredevil Lebron I watched the show using audio description. It is in the settings for Netflix. Audio description describes what’s taking place in the episode and describes it to me.
@@MichaelSmith-yf4nm Marvel needs to make an extremely polished and well-fuunded audio series of Daredevil. It's so obvious! Everyone should be able to fully appreciate the blind hero and I think it would create some really interesting creative opportunities.
Season 3 is probably my favorite season of Daredevil, but I do wish they would have had Matt reclaim the costume in some way during the season. It’s a superhero show, let Matt have his superhero costume!
All they had to do, was have him take the suit back in the end of season, after taking down Fisk, and Dex, even just a glimpse of it back in his wardrobe would’ve been cool. It was implied he got it back, and definitely would’ve worn it in the cancelled 4th season. The whole point of this season though, was to strip Matt from his armor, and build himself back up.
people like Godzilla mendoza have pointed it out but netflix has this stigma about superhero costumes because they probably think it makes them look silly and would rather much them have grounded clothes instead. glad that marvel studios is giving their characters more comic accurate costumes like sam captain America and wanda
@@Joaquin-xq5wo I respect that, it’s a super heightened reality, with super powered individuals, it’s a way more realistic version of the MCU. The black suit suited DD pretty well in the series, but I am a sucker for cool costumes especially the red devil suit.
That suit represents Matt’s anger and pain. Which is why Dex uses it. Dex represents those same aspects. Matt’s suit represents darkness with a shimmer of light showing through, in the white piece of cloth underneath his mask.
@@paradox_music Good observation , I liked that look, it’s way more street level, back to basics look, that gave him a real down to earth style like the first season. Fighting Dex while wearing his armored suit, showed Matt literally, and metaphorically fighting his own personal demons. Dex took every murderous impulse, and detachment from human life, that Matt was starting to feel in the 2nd season after being pushed to the brink, and had to overcome his personal darkness.
Of all the Marvel/DC movies and shows that came out, the only one I can really recommend is the Daredevil series. It was about trying to be uncorrupted in a world that is pushing you to the brink, revenge, faith, power, corruption, and the truth. Matt Murdock went through harrowing situations but can't rely on superpowers like immense strength or tremendous wealth or flight to save him.

You don’t know how much I cheered inside seeing that you was gonna talk about this season! To me, this one trumps season one! Season one I watched over a weekend! Season three of this show, I WATCHED IN ONE DAY! That’s how good it was!
Charlie Cox played the hell out that role and now he is returning back. The only thing that I might be aprehensive about is what MCU going to do with the character ? I think they going to put more money into this show .Netflix did do good with the show on a smaller budget . Matt Draper , you did a good job moderation of the series is well done.
I was looking forward to this last December after your season 2 review for daredevil, and somehow totally missed out on this until now! Pumped to finally see it even though I'm 2 months late!
Great video Matt, one of your best I think. I'd forgotten too that the tragic Agent Nadim dies falling into a pit he'd dug himself, thinking it would be for something better.
I have to say Matt, though I've not seen all of your videos, this has to be one of, if not the best written videos in the video essay genre I've seen. It's really fascinating to hear you put your thoughts and opinions into words in such a beautiful was. I don't know if you're cathalic or religious, but the way you discuss those aspects of the show, and the show itself have really put the whole idea of religion in a new light for me personally. Props on a fantastic video and a fun Darecember! I look forward to all your new content
I love you’re videos on Daredevil! Very spiritually symbolic, season 3 was the best marvel Netflix season, and a perfect ending to a near perfect show.
I used to feel like I was in the minority feeling that DD Season 3 >Season 1, but I see that isn't the case. Charlie Cox's "I BEAT YOU!!" monologue is my singe favorite performance by an actor portraying a superhero. This season was just all-around excellent as a battle for Matt's soul and the very nature of good vs evil. I plan on re-watching it soon.
Just discovered you and your channel with this video, what an amazing content you have ! I am astonished by the quality of writing and all the content you cover with your videos, and the pacing is just perfect ! I’m just a random fan of the character and a friend recommended me your reviews of the comic runs, I ended up watching this video instead and am not regretting it for a second. Thank you for your work, I can’t wait for your next videos !
I've been a fan since 2019 year when I saw your video on my favorite hero Moon Knight and his connection to Khonshu. Darecember has always been a treat so I can't help but want more. I know that you didn't like some Netflix shows like Iron Fist Season 2, to be fare many didn't. Regardless of our differing opinions on subjects like Iron Fist I wanted to say that your insights into characters and plots are always welcome Matt Draper. You are appreciated, Happy Darecember.
I watched Daredevil cause i knew he was going to appear in no way home but after watching the series...geez. I was more excited to see him then the others spiders
I'm actually happy that Daredevil is an outlier in the MCU. As similar as some MCU movies can be, too many Daredevils and we're right back in the 90s and I think we can all agree that that's the last place Marvel should go anywhere near
Love your daredevil videos! they always motivate me to pursue my purpose regardless of the struggles I go through! thank you for all your hard work! keep going!
My 3rd year on this channel, I found your channel with your Idw tmnt video and your love for comics has only enhanced mine, I'm here for your content dude and ready for many more deep dives into comics and other forms of media
This show is a masterpiece and I am still pissed they canceled it. Also I 💯 agree with your analysis and comparisons of this third season of daredevil. Also love the violence montage at 10:29.
@Matt Draper This video was amazing as always and I'm glad you did take the time of your day to really deep dive into Daredevil's world and explain how his Faith in God pushes his world and beliefs in his fight against crime.
It's been 3,000 years and it's finally here. Happy new year's Matt and thank you for the great videos you've produced this year and although I have not watched them all but from what I've seen they've been amazing spectacular even.
Almost done watching daredevil for the first time, I thought the Marvel Netflix shows were trash from what I heard but damn daredevil went from a unknown shadow to me to one of my favorite heroes. Honestly this show is definitely my favorite comic show and I'm so excited to get more from the same actors in the MCU.
As for the Defenders, I actually liked it! But I will it mitt if you want to go from season two of Daredevil to season three, you MUST Watch the final episode of The Defenders before watching season three because it goes right into this season!
My metaphor here is that, its like comics, making this amazing run of the chatacter, but moving on and doing another run of this characters,it wouldnt be as perfect as the previous run,but the important thing is what this new comic run will bring to the table,if you understand my metaphor. Im excited to see what will they do to matt and fisk in the mcu.
I found Vanessa had the most surprising he'll turn. Rather than be Wilson's voice of reason and conscience, she actually sanctions the death of special agent Ray Nadeem, and by doing so, provides the leverage Matt needs to get the better of Fisk in the end.
Just finished today and was waiting for an interpretation of that amazing panel from Mazzucchelli with daredevil in the suit with the fire in the back. But that was my only gripe w the season that he never wore the costume
I honestly love all 3 seasons but I can't decide which is my favorite; season 1 or 3. Loved the video. Thanks for another awesome Darecember. (Also, I just finished the devil in cell-block d arc and I really enjoyed it.)
i wonder if the return of king pin and yellow suit matt is bc vanessa died, or maybe king pin tried to return but matt then killed vanessa. i’m so excited to see how they continue his story
The end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 were the only parts that I wasn’t in love with, this show is so well done, so well acted out and just so dam good.

You don’t know how much I cheered inside seeing that you was gonna talk about this season! To me, this one trumps season one! Season one I watched over a weekend! Season three of this show, I WATCHED IN ONE DAY! That’s how good it was!
I love "Dare-cember"! Thank you for the wonderful Daredevil videos. I was eagerly anticipating this one all month.
Great end to Darecember and another great year of videos. Here’s for an amazing 2022 for you Matt.
The final thoughts on the video are great. awesome video, thank you for a great darecember Matt.
This video is an achievement beautifully capturing the themes and its emotional resonance of the show.
Another fantastic Darecember! Much love Matt, you’re the best.
Wow, finished my re-watch of season 3 right in time for this video. Nice.
This video has been 3 years in the wait thank for bring it to us the wait makes it all the sweeter
I was looking forward to this last December after your season 2 review for daredevil, and somehow totally missed out on this until now! Pumped to finally see it even though I'm 2 months late!
I don't know much about this Daredevil guy but Matt Murdock is a really good lawyer.
Great video Matt, one of your best I think. I'd forgotten too that the tragic Agent Nadim dies falling into a pit he'd dug himself, thinking it would be for something better.
Great video!!! I want to watch the entire series all over again!! Thanx!!!
Daredevil is the Dark Knight Trilogy of Marvel.
Matt has somehow managed to do multiple Darecembers without covering the 2003 Ben Affleck movie, as if we wouldn't notice.
Thanks so much for sticking with me for so long!
@@MattDraper It's a pleasure
Been eagerly awaiting this video and it did not disappoint. Really beautiful analysis.
Love your daredevil videos! they always motivate me to pursue my purpose regardless of the struggles I go through! thank you for all your hard work! keep going!
What a great video!
Really enjoy your Daredevil features, great work mate
Dude I love your dare devil analysis videos so much love that you released this in time for breakfast
My 3rd year on this channel, I found your channel with your Idw tmnt video and your love for comics has only enhanced mine, I'm here for your content dude and ready for many more deep dives into comics and other forms of media
Dude, you deserve more subs.
This show is a masterpiece and I am still pissed they canceled it. Also I 💯 agree with your analysis and comparisons of this third season of daredevil. Also love the violence montage at 10:29.
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long, I love this show. Thanks for making it
Thanks for this Darecember Matt. Much ❤ as always
@Matt Draper This video was amazing as always and I'm glad you did take the time of your day to really deep dive into Daredevil's world and explain how his Faith in God pushes his world and beliefs in his fight against crime.
If you see this message I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year can't wait for more videos in 2022.
Hell yeah! Ive been waiting for your season 3 video!
Thoughtful analysis, makes me wanna rewatch this season! Thanks bro here a sub
As for the Defenders, I actually liked it! But I will it mitt if you want to go from season two of Daredevil to season three, you MUST Watch the final episode of The Defenders before watching season three because it goes right into this season!
Great Darecember Matt! Thanks for these videos!
I still say the prison scene is probably the best shot seen in any action movie
Amazing video
I found Vanessa had the most surprising he'll turn. Rather than be Wilson's voice of reason and conscience, she actually sanctions the death of special agent Ray Nadeem, and by doing so, provides the leverage Matt needs to get the better of Fisk in the end.
Amazing video as always Matt, knocked this one outta the park.
Absolutely brilliant work once again. Needless to say, it would be a crime for you to discontinue Darecember. If you did, you better lawyer up
I literally just finished your season 2 and wondered if you had one for Season 3. I found it not 3 minutes after you published it 😂
Did I spend the past week after bingeing all your Daredevil videos hoping it would be this? Yes, yes I did.
I love these so much! Incredible work man
Literally just finish rewatchimg season 3 last night. Talk about perfect timing
Just finished today and was waiting for an interpretation of that amazing panel from Mazzucchelli with daredevil in the suit with the fire in the back. But that was my only gripe w the season that he never wore the costume
I forgot there were 3 seasons of the DD show, thanks again Matt!
Happy Dare cember! Loved these videos, can't wait to see where Marvel takes the character in the future and your takes on it
Been waiting since last year for this!
Great subject matter meets great content creator! You're inspiring!
As usual, excellent work, Matt!
If not for Doom Patrol season 1, this would absolutely still be my favourite season of live action television.
16:40 then years later, Fisk is out, starting from scratch again and now with superhuman strength and resistance.
Sorry I had to do it xD
“I’m Daredevil. Not even God can stop that now.”
Time has been so kind to this stellar show. I love you Daredevil
You killed it man!
Been waiting for this video for ages
everything I hoped for (both the video and the season!)
Great Video. I'm watching this in 2024.
I honestly love all 3 seasons but I can't decide which is my favorite; season 1 or 3. Loved the video. Thanks for another awesome Darecember. (Also, I just finished the devil in cell-block d arc and I really enjoyed it.)
Thank you for this amazing daredecember hope we can get one next year
i wonder if the return of king pin and yellow suit matt is bc vanessa died, or maybe king pin tried to return but matt then killed vanessa. i’m so excited to see how they continue his story
Thank you for the great content.
The end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 were the only parts that I wasn’t in love with, this show is so well done, so well acted out and just so dam good.
Anyone got a list of all the verse numbers? Ephisians 6:11-13 was straight fire
Beautiful.
This is #1 reason why I HATE Disney. This amazing show ended to soon but at least we ended on the highest of high notes. Rip Netflix Daredevil.
Well it's coming back sooo.
