Just got home from the theater seeing this and it's definitely a satisfying conclusion to this version of the Guardians. This was more emotional than I was expecting and who would've thought James Gunn would've had me in the feels for a CGI raccoon? Rocket's backstory is DARK.

Sometimes the best stories are the ones that are the most simple, yet the most complex in characters. Those are mostly the stories that stick with you for years to come. This movie was the perfect blend of dark and having comedy in only moments where it was very earned. Glad it didn't build up to anything that is to set up the next Avengers, but instead it tells its own story. Rocket's story was very impactful and I thought the villain's motive tied very well into the struggles of the other characters and them realizing who they are. I teared up because all of the sadness and happiness was very well earned by some of the best tension and suspense we ever got in the MCU. Masterpiece!

The first Guardians of the Galaxy is in my Top 3 Favorite MCU films, but I’ve never liked Vol. 2 all that much. I just got out of the theater, and Vol. 3 was everything that I hoped it would be. It was very funny, it was emotional, and it was 100% James Gunn. Because Gunn pours so much of himself into the movies he writes and directs, he makes movies that have a certain purity to them. Specifically talking about the MCU, the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are James Gunn films. They’re his humor, mean streak, and heart all combined with superhero spectacle. Truly a great way to send off characters that have meant so much to me.

I think it made sense that Gamora was the outsider looking in. Yes we all wanted her to reunite and want to be part of the team again but when you think about it it makes sense that she wasn't trying to be part of the family. In GOTG V1 she didn't want a family that was Nebula and she didn't want to save the world she just didn't want it destroyed by the man who destroyed her planet. She was forced to work with Peter and fell for him in the mix. This Gamora we have now was never forced to work with Peter and never got to know him and wasn't looking for a family. So it makes sense to me this is the way she turned out.

Guardians should always have a 60s-70s retro soundtrack. It helps connect the audience with Quill to have music that feels like they should be nostalgic about it, despite having no real personal connection to it. Peter liked it because it reminded him of his mom. I liked it because it reminded me of my parents. It just doesn’t work the same when it’s music that I can clearly connect to specific parts of my life. It’s just cool, quirky music over action scenes at that point.

I don’t get people’s criticisms of Gamora’s story at all. It would have been so cheesy and predictable if her and Quill just easily fell back in love and had a happy romantic ending. Her story fit perfectly with the theme of this movie of individuality. 1 and 2 were about finding family, this one is about finding who you are on your own and what your place is. Going this route it made her death in Infinity War actually mean something cause that Gamora really is gone. New Gamora by the end is friendly with the Guardians but she doesn’t fit in cause she is her own person who lived her own life and can’t just magically turn into the image and need Quill has for her. She’s an individual with her own needs and wants, not something to be shaped to fix someone else’s loss. While subtle, this story Gunn chose with her is so mature and deeper and their farewell at the end is so bittersweet that it hurts but you absolutely understand it’s the right thing when you see how naturally happy she is with the Ravagers

I completely agree. I never thought of Gamora’s arc in Vol 3 that way but that’s a great point about how her death in Infinity War really means something. If you don’t mind me asking what is your favorite MCU movie/show.

@@cooperwolfe5478 Thank you. It honestly baffles me seeing people complain about the use of Gamora in 3 when I think it’s clearly one of the best and touching parts of the movie. We’ve all been in a situation where a person we loved changes and we want them and things to be the way they were before but that’s just not who they are anymore. I don’t want to sound pretentious but I wonder if maybe it’s just the zombie type audience that generic Marvel usually creates that they just need to be constantly spoon fed every piece of information and every mental thought a character is thinking when watching a marvel movie. Because I’m seeing this “criticism” of her a lot.
And to answer your question my favorite MCU film is probably Infinity War. Ragnarok, Civil War, Endgame and GOTG trilogy is up there too. As for the shows, Wandavision is the only one I liked. I stopped watching after Loki cause I was noticing the decline in quality. How about you?

@@voiceofmovies3941 Personally Civil War is my favorite MCU film. I thought it was the perfect way to kick of phase 3 because it was a way to separate the Avengers so that when Thanos comes in Infinity War they’re not prepared. Plus it was able to balance the character development of established characters like Iron Man and Captain America, plus introduce the audience to new characters like Black Panther and the MCU’s version of Spider-Man. As for my favorite MCU show I actually have to go with Loki. I had a lot of fun with it and it’s currently the only MCU show that once the season ended I immediately wanted a second season. But that’s just my opinion and probably most people would agree with you on Loki.

GOTG 3 is an amazing conclusion to the trilogy, and honestly it makes it better when these 3 films do not feel super connected to the MCU. Not to mention these actors and characters are just so fun to watch with their jokes and family tone. Focusing this last film on an emotional core is what was needed not only for marvel, but for the conclusion. The film has a few problems that feel a little coincidental and redundant, yet the the positives of the film completely surpass the problems. Once again that soundtrack kills.
I’ve seen people start conversations about this being the last true Marvel film. As our main avengers are gone and the last huge group is now concluded. It feels that way. I think besides Spider-Man and Dr strange, everything else has felt forced, mediocre, and redundant. As a lot of new character feel like simple replacements of the characters we came to love in over decade. I can understand why people feel this way. The GOTG feels like a big send off to the original Marvel that came before phase 4.

Maybe it's just having higher expectations due to GotG Vol. 2 being my favorite film of the MCU, and anticipation from the long-awaited 3rd Volume of the trilogy; this movie sort of fell flat for me. Certainly not a bad film by any means. There's a lot of good stuff in it and I think it fulfills it's role in the context of the trilogy by having a very satisfactory ending that feels content about parting with the characters in their current iterations. A lot of leeway for these actor's to reprise their roles; even if only as a small cameo or crossover in future MCU films. Still, I think like Vol. 1 & 2 over 3. Also its still one of the better film's in the current MCU. At least since Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I've seen the movie twice now, thinking of seeing it a third time. While I hear exactly what Cody is saying when it comes to Gamora and The High Evolutionary, I have to say with a second viewing, their stories and conclusions make a lot of sense.
With The High Evolutionary's line of "God doesn't exist. That's why I stepped in" told us everything we need to know about who he is. Even when Peter makes his quip about "I'm not going to listen to another psycho who's mother didn't love him so he wants to take over the universe" (I know not verbatim), The High Evolutionary just looks at him and pretty much tells him, "no, I want to make it better." And his ways of making things better is mass genocide. He creates entire worlds and species, and when they don't work out, he destroys it all. Obviously he's not as powerful as Thanos, but all things considered, the dude is certainly more twisted.
And for Gamora, we see she is recognizing what made the Guardians (and her alternate self) so special. She shares a moment with Peter, and Peter is okay with letting her go. But she's grown fond of him. Same with Groot. Much like alternate Gamora, all she hears at first is "I am Groot" and gets annoyed. By the end of the movie, she has already begun to understand him. So while she's moving on with the Ravagers, she's become aware of why her alternate self loved them and why they love her. Just my thoughts.
Overall, incredibly happy with the way this story arc concluded, and dare I say, when breaking down the previous movies into their story arcs (Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, etc) Guardians of the Galaxy is the best 3 movie story.
Keep on killing it Cody! Love seeing your stuff. Definitely enjoyed your Blade (1-3) reviews so far and looking forward to the 31 on 31!

Rocket connected with me. I never fit in anywhere. Even to this day. I have felt angry and worthless due to my special needs. I have felt jealous of others, always feeling down on myself. I have let my jealousy get the best of me at times by lying in bed all day.
In the past, I felt a lot of shame for being in special ed classes. Embarrassed. Depressed. Felt like people were over my shoulder and treating me like 'just some kid with autism' rather then a human with different opinions. I remember being around screaming kids and coming home wanting to quit school. I do indeed sometimes push people away who try to help me, because teachers and adults looked at me as 'lesser then.' Teachers constantly leaned over me. Rolled there eyes at me for screwing up. Now at 29-at times I feel like an autistic weirdo in public spaces. Walls come up and anger kicks in. Not to mention the countless hospital visits due to my breathing issues and a near death experience when I was little. That all has made me a bit closed off and angry.
As I get older, I'm finding purpose and opening up and learning that people (who aren't my immediate family) care about me and really do want to be my friend. I'm so glad James wrote Rocket the way he did-that character manages to kick my ass and forces me outta my own head. To be a rebel and forge my own positive path. I wanna be stronger (physically and mentally) and I want to work and feel like I'm contributing positively to someone's life. Also I wanna have fun of course. Can't go through life stressed about work and thinking 'big thoughts.' Gotta party too.

I can understand your not liking the High Evolutionary but he at least felt like a villainous Villain, which I don't get much from Disney/MCU these days. Adam Warlock was so weird.

It's weird how much Adam Warlock was hyped up when he ended up being a complete buttmonkey and largely superfluous to the overall plot.
    Still loved the movie though.

This is my favorite Marvel movie. I love Rocket (hes my fave marvel character) so I was happy that this movie was focused on him. But beyond that it has more heart and soul than pretty much every other MCU movie. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are my fave Mcu movies and I thought that this was a beautiful send off to these characters as well as to the trilogy as a whole. I think that this is a better movie then No Way Home and Across the Spiderverse

I haven't seen this film yet but going to watch it for sure because I've been soooo busy and a little behind in the Phase 4 and 5 😂 lol. I'm really a huge fan of Guardians of the Galaxy film series and the Disney Plus holiday special that continue the characters in this film..... I think the reason James Gunn choose High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock because they are heavily involved in the Guardians popular storylines in the comic books and the animated series on Disney Plus.

Animal violence / abuse is certainly something I am turned off by. But, I feel like comparing actual animal abuse in film (Milo & Otis), to this? It’s CGI.. it’s not animal abuse, that’s like saying looney tunes features animal abuse. It’s not real. However, I agree that it’s emotional, which is a testament to the CGI and animation in Vol. 3. I definitely teared up.
I also liked the villain, he sort of reminded me of Hitler.. he just wants this perfect race. It didn’t explicitly say why, but he’s a psycho path. He also tried to kill rocket. Do we need more reason to hate him and want him dead?

He always knows how to balance the serious with the comedy which is why I love his work in comic book movies.

I'd say Marvel isn't in a slow decline but rather a free fall. I went into this with low expectations and was wonderfully surprised. I really liked this one. Laughed a lot, felt the emotions and overall satisfied like Marvel hasn't been able to do for awhile. Guardians has always been a Marvel bright spot tho. I HATED the way they did Adam Warlock tho. Bad move IMO. Glad my daughter said we were going to watch this. 8/10

Thank you for the warning on animal cruelty. You know I always ask. Hubby wants to see this one this weekend and at least now I'm prepared for a lot of mess I'm probably gonna cry through.
With the MCU I feel like we got a full decade of building up to this thing and they did it in such an organic way that it captured lightening. They could've ended with End Game and it would have been ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Now it just feels like they are trying to capture it twice and the truth is, the heart of the MCU started with Downey and while everyone has done a stellar job and I love these characters...the story feels done. A lot of us said it when End Game concluded that we will NEVER have an experience like this again in our lifetimes and they keep trying to push forward. Did I like some movies that have come after End Game? Yes. Would I ever watch them again? Probably not. Have I gone back through and watched the original timeline though with Thanos? Several times.

This is what I don't understand. Why doesn't Marvel and DC make their heroes and villains as powerful as they are in the comics? It feels like they would be much better movies in my opinion. Like I love a lot of underrated heroes and villains. But, they have to weaken them for the movies. So, why don't they make both heroes and villains just like the comics?
