The way James Gunn turned the ongoing joke about Rocket thinking that raccoon is just an offensive word into him proudly saying "The name is Rocket. Rocket Raccoon" has to be one of the most satisfying moments in the MCU for me.

@DinoDoomPirateHacker difference is that it’s his actual name. He also now takes pride in the fact he’s a raccoon. I think it works. It would be weird if he called himself that every time but one time is good.
I personally thought Nebula was quite annoying in vol.1&2 but after the snap she did a U-turn on me and is now one of my favorites. Probably the best character arc in the MCU.
She was so annoying in Vol 1, got a little better in 2, but yeah. Infinity war onward? I absolutely loved her in Vol 3, to the point I’m on board if they actually develop something with Peter.
Best character arc? Nah....the best arc has to be Iron Man.

@@arturocastroverde3349 She still annoyed me in Vol 2 though, but that was the turning point. Once she hit Infinity War she didn't annoy me anymore. It has nothing to do with screen time.

One thing I love about Nebula in Guardians 3 is how much she cares about Rocket. They were the only 2 Guardians left after the snap so it makes sense why they care so much about each other. I also liked that the movie didn’t feel the need to tell you that. If you saw Endgame, you already know and if you didn’t (for some reason), it doesn’t matter because you can feel it
That and both their backstories being taken apart and being put back together to be “perfect” , it makes sense why they are as close as they are and care about each other as much as they do
@@kemogreen1059 exactly and the fact that the movie doesn’t keep throwing that connection in your face and let’s you organically feel it for yourself is what makes the director a god send for GOTG VOL 3

Cosmo had the best character arc of going from bad dog to good dog
I was surprised as to how much I liked Nebula and Mantis in this movie. Definitely some of my favorite characters.

A tribute to the good writing. Everyone felt appreciated in this film
The whole team have their quirks and characteristics that make them all so loveable and arcs that make them so compelling and interesting. In many ways they remind me of the Bebop crew from Cowboy Bebop. I’m not sure how I’d rank them all, but I know my top 2 would be Rocket and Star Lord. Rocket for his tragic backstory and moments in which he has shown how hurt he has been, but also for his funny banter and personality 😂
My favorite is Star Lord tho. In a lot of ways, he reminds me of one of my favorite characters of all time: Simon the digger from Gurren Lagann. This is a character who lost his mom, had a horrible father, lost his caring blue daddy, and his lover (the og). Yet he gets back up, leads his team, and does what needs to be done. In the end he passes on the leadership of the guardians making way for a new generation and stepping down from something that he no longer needs to be a part of. Maybe he didn’t get the ending he or us wanted for him, but it doesn’t matter. He’s fine with it, and we should be too. Like Simon, and his drill, he keeps digging. Plus he’s got exquisite taste in music 👌
It's funny that it took Kragling like 10 years, since he wasn't snapped, to control the arrow.

I always wondered what James Gunn's reaction was to Star Lord's portrayal in the Avengers movies. I personally thought they did him dirty.
I think he's given some interviews for guardians 3 where he's said that as kindly as possible

Man when Sean mentioned Thor in the list, it just reminds us that the MCU wasted a good opportunity to discover Asgardians of the galaxy
I was surprisingly sad when Ayesha died and Warlock was yelling “MOTHER!” James Gunn really knows how to set the mood.
He may have quarreled with her often, but he still had an unconditional love for her as his mother.

It's crazy that, for me, Yondu and up are all in my top 15 MCU heroes AND villains ranked. Peter, Rocket, and Nebula are my new top 3 characters replacing Steve Loki and Zemo. James Gunn truly cares about these characters and it show.
My top 2 favourite Guardians are also my top 2 favourite MCU characters: Rocket and Nebula.
I loved Rocket for his personality and his hinted backstory before seeing Vol. 3, but Vol. 3 truly made me love him even more. To fully understand all that he went through makes him all the more tragic yet heroic and to see him finally embrace how he's a raccoon was so satisfying and cathartic.
Nebula was one of my favourites even since seeing Vol. 2 and Endgame was what made her my second favourite MCU character, especially the opening with her and Tony out in space. Then Vol. 3 just made me love her even more, especially with how she decides to be a parental figure to all those children as a way to move past what she endured with Thanos.
James Gunn is such a genius with these characters. I'm honestly jealous of him.
Rocket was already my favorite volume three just made him 10 billion times better
I love Star lord and I think they’ve made him a more relatable character as he’s gone on and honestly I find him to be one of the most relatable MCU characters after spidey

Groot and yondu over star lord is crazy. Honestly either of those over mantis and gamora is odd to me as well. Gamora is a different character after infinity war, so I understand her not being top 5, but at least 6 or 7 for og gamora. And mantis doesn’t have as much of an arc as some of the top characters here, but the energy she brought to the holiday special and vol. 3 makes her top 5 for me for sure. She, as well as nebula, hold so many of the scenes together in vol. 3 that I couldn’t understand putting her as low as she is on this list. Drax is an odd one to rank, because there were times he was only there as a tool for comedy…but he also had a great arc, he’s easily the funniest, and his story in vol. 3 ends in such an amazing and emotional spot that makes me cry tears of joy each time. Rocket, nebula, drax, star-lord, groot, mantis, gamora, kraglin, cosmo. All characters from vol. 3. And taking into account their entire journeys. This is my favorite mcu movie, and one of my favorite movies period. And I love the amount of shine that each character gets. Above all else, that’s what really put it over as the best for me. Outstanding.
I really enjoyed guardians of the galaxy 3 and rockets backstory was emotional and all the characters had their own arc!
Some of the stuff that reads even deeper with Rocket after GOTG3:
1) In the first movie, he loses his closest friend, Groot.
2) In Volume 2, Peter comments on how he's just purposely being a jerk. Yondu even profiles this and now you understand that he really his trying to push people away, because he's afraid he'll get them killed, like the others before.
3) He bonds with Yondu and than can't let him go when told to leave without him. Then when Gamora is about to go to try and save Peter as well, Rocket knocks her out; Knowing that he's losing Yondu, anticipating that Yondu might not be able to save Peter so he could die too, and say to her "I can only afford to lose one friend today." He can't handle the idea of the loses piling up. He can't stand losing more people he cares about.
4) In Infinity War, he builds that bond with Thor after seeing all that he has lost and knows what he's going through. He councils him and when Thor says "If I'm wrong, what more could I possibly lose?" and Rocket's response of "Me personally, I could lose a lot." Because Thor is on a quest to kill Thanos, but more focused on Vengeance. So when he slips up and doesn't make the kill shot, he realizes that he forgot that there were other people who were on the line or could lose folks, including Rocket.
And then Rocket loses Groot for the 2nd Time!
5) In ENDGAME, he learns he's lost so many others, so now his closest bond is Nebula. When Tony asks what's up with Thor, Rocket's response of "He thinks he failed but then there's a lot of that going around, isn't there." can be viewed in a whole new light with his backstory. He's devastated when he sees the stones gone because it means they can't bring everyone back. Now you see him snap and Slap Thor and go off on him saying "You think you're the only one who lost someone!?" Then when everyone comes back, and then Thanos has his ship fire on everyone, you see him throw himself over Groot like "NO!!! I'M NOT LOSING YOU A THIRD TIME!!!!"
You Still Wonder What's With His Obsession With Limbs & Eyes And All That. You Could Think Back To How The High Evolutionary Added Parts To His Friends, But Then That Shouldn't Have A Humorous Effect On Rocket. Who Knows.
Still, An ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ARC FOR HIM!

I actually think Thor on the guardians was to enhance the story of love and thunder where he is lost and doesn’t know his place. He met the guardians and was lost with no purpose at the end of endgame and probably decided, heck maybe I’ll find my place in this world with this new team of heroes? Obviously he didn’t

I knew mantis would be lower but it’s not her fault, she’s a great character, they have so many good characters and it hinders that she wasn’t in the first 1 but overall she’s a welcomed addition

I loved that past timeline Gamora didn't become Peter's love by movie's end. It would've been so predictable & would've totally made Gamora's death at the hands of Thanos totally meaningless having wrote themselves out of that impactful moment by having her pickup where old Gamora left off. I do like by movie's end she started to soften to the Guardians to the point where she now understands Groot but still does her own thing as a Ravager

I think ur too logical sometimes with your rankings... For example with Star Lord everything u said is correct but still I would put him higher just because he's the heart of the guardians, he's funny, kind-hearted, and has some of the best scenes in the franchise. I get that nebulas arc for example is better written but is she really a character we care about more than Star Lord ? I think most people would say no. Its not a bad ranking and its yours but idk maybe its not all about how perfectly written they are sometimes and just about how they make the audience feel

This video made me greater appreciate the character conclusion in GOTG Vol. 3. I still would’ve done Star-Lord’s differently. I wanted him to hold his Grandpa’s hand on his death bed (what he didn’t do with his mother) then be introduced to his family.
Does anyone know why starlord doesn’t use his mask or rocket boots in volume three? Did I miss something in a past film?
It's either he was too drunk to grab them at the start, or Gunn wanted to "retcon" IW/EG because his mask was destroyed in Vol. 2 to maintain continuity.

First of all, I would have ranked Peter much higher.
I also disagree with your thoughts on his actions in Infinity War.
He’s half human and he let his emotions get the better of him…
I would have ranked Baby Groot and both versions of Gamora considerably higher, especially original Gamora.
I would have also ranked Yondu a bit lower, and especially Kraglin too.

1. Nebula - for all the reasons you say. I loved Nebula even in GOTG1 but ever since her fight and reconciliation with Gomorra in GOTG2 she became my favorite.
2. Rocket- also the reasons you say. He went from hilarious to tragic. I love him.
3. Original Groot - all the reasons you say.
4. Original Gamorra - all the reasons you say. But up a few spots because her tragic sacrifice and performance in Infinity destroys me.
5. Starlord - he frustrates me but in a lovable way. I like his arc and I think his actions in Infinity War make sense, even if they’re way misguided.
6. Reborn Groot - same feelings as you but I like him a bit more.
7. Mantis - never quite worked for me. I find her fairly annoying.
8. Drax - I love him in #1 and I love the way he ends in #3 but I really hate him in #2, the Infinity saga, Holiday Special, and most of 3. I find the stupid/mean Drax character so irritating.
9. Yondu- I felt his redemption was really unearned. I still like the performance/character but I don’t like him as a Guardian.
Skipping all others because their onscreen stints as guardians are too minimal.

If you told me in 2014 that Nebula, freaking NEBULA, was gonna be my favorite Guardian, I would've laughed at your face. But dammit, from vol. 2 onward, she just got better and better with each appearance in the MCU. Culminating in vol. 3, where she essentially became a better Gamora. There, I said it, Nebula is a better Gamora than Gamora herself. I know a lot will disagree, but I'll die on that hill.

One day Sean will drop a 1 hour video defining the word 'best'
He stole batteries just incase he needed it, he stole parts to brake out of his cell before he new that he wasn't going to the new world. It saved him then so, stealing those batteries was more of a traumatic habit.
I mostly agree with this list, but personally I still wouldn't have Star Lord so low. I agree his actions in Infinity War aren't completely earned, but one defense that I'll offer for him that no one seems to realize is that he was the only hero willing to do what was necessary from the beginning. He was willing to sacrifice Gamora to save everyone and he actually tried to. He has that choice ripped away from him and she STILL died along with everyone else. I also think his characterization and actions in Vol 3 are just too heartwarming. Just the lengths he's willing to go to save Rocket and him maturing, letting go of Gamora, and finally going to see his grandfather. That all puts him close to the top for me.
Nebula has had a full 360 arc. Her arc is literally on the same level and is as big as Tony Stark himself and for that reason she is probably number 1 for me. She is just soooo good in guardians 3. Personally i think nebula, mantis and drax carry guardians 3. Mantis is pretty boring and plain in guardians 2 and the avengers films but in she is just incredible in the holiday special and guardians 3. It really shows just how funny and entertaining mantis actually is
I basically agree yeah great list. I 100% on board, would maybe put mantis higher
having drax that high up is wild, I personally think he's a lower tier guardian in comparison to others. I'd switch him and star-lord on the list.
Starlord they switched between wasting him and forcing him to take one for the team since Guardians 1. In Guardians 2 he was just playing catch. In Infinity War he caused the Thanos snap. Then in Guardians 3 he's just mopping about his girlfriend.
Honestly, researching the Guardians in the MCU online, I didn't even remember who Blurp or Phyla were, due to the fact that they don't even say their names and they do so little. I would include Yondu, of course, and it's tricky to say whether I should include Gamora 2 in it. But of course it's true that there are 2 Gamoras, technically.
Rocket has always been my #1 since the first movie 🤟 I’ve always just loved him so much and gotg 3 made me love him even more

GOTG 3: (Haven’t seen it yet but from I heard it’s not funnier then GOTG 1 and 2 but extremely emotional that’s for why I put it above GOTG 2 and even though I haven’t watched it yet)

you’ve got a great opinion. for me my favourite is nebula for sure. i think she has the biggest character arc in all of the mcu and is such an interesting character. going from an evil sadistic assassin to who she is by the end of gotg 3, is so meaningful.

Rocket has always been my favorite! I’m torn on Drax though. Dave Bautista is hilarious, but his character changes so much in 2 and 3 that I’d have to rank him lower. Maybe when I rewatch all the films I’ll appreciate it more.
