Man, Spot is someone that Kang should have been. Feels more like a multidimesionial threat too. Absolute chills. You do really feel for him. Society won't accept him, so only thing left for him is to take revenge on Spiderman, who took everything from him.

    • @IceMetalPunk
      @IceMetalPunk Год назад +11

It's even more than that. There's that element of Hammurabian revenge, but there's also an underlying frustration with not being taken seriously. Like, "you made me this way, but you won't even ACKNOWLEDGE that I'm WORTH dealing with? You won't even RESPECT that my anger is JUSTIFIED? Well, I guess I'll have to make sure you understand what a threat I am, then, by proving it."

I think the twist that'll come in the next movie is that canon can be changed, as we've seen with Captain Stacy in Gwen's universe quitting his job as police captain. It's just that the decision to change canon has to come from someone who lives in that dimension, which means no direct outside intervention like with Miguel or Miles. I think we've even seen snippets of this even in the first movie to this one. Peter B Parker having a baby because of Miles' influence, or Spider-Man Noir introducing the concept of color to his own universe, etc.

The thing is, With 2099, That’s just who he is. He’s the most un spiderman of the spider people. From not actually being bitten by a spider to living his life completely alone away from everyone else, no Miguel, only Spider Man to him.
That’s always what drew me to his story in the comics. The fact that he’s Spiderman, but he isn’t your typical Friendly-Neighbourhood Spiderman.
Overall, I loved this movie. As you can tell by my need to defend him, 2099 was my favourite character. Reading him in the comics and then watching the scene of him risking everything to live a life where he has a family, because he literally has an Ai and that’s it, then it all tumbling down, is very comic accurate for him.
I do hope Miguel isn’t evil by the end though, now that would be wrong.
Miles and Gwen’s individual and together stories are great and seeing some of the cameos/references, where really cool.
It essentially delivered in every way I thought it would, but I do agree that it’s hard to say how I feel because of how it feels incomplete.

I know I’m alone in this, but my personal favorite cameo was Sun-Spider/Charlotte Webber (the disabled Spider-Person who says “do you think superheroes too often use comedy as a crutch? Get it?”). She’s a recent character with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome created by comic book writer Tee Franklin, and she wa splayed by a disabled comedian, Danielle Perez. EDS is a condition that my SO has, and seeing a disabled superhero (with her condition) played by an actually disabled actor meant the world to me. I actually squealed when Sun-Spider came on screen more than any other moment, but I know there aren’t many others who would agree.

Not everyone has to be goofy to be good, not every spiderman has to be as lighthearted as most are, there has to be a cold blooded head around, and with the trauma that his life is (even in comics iirc) there’s absolutely a justification as to why he’s so relentless on his beliefs

The story was also incredible. My only very minor nitpick is that at the end when Gwen's Spider team is created, Avatar Spider-Girl just felt like a weird unnecessary choice, like, she let Miles go and all, but other than that, there didn't seem much reason for her to join, but we'll have to see how I feel about her inclusion once Beyond the Spiderverse comes out

As a lifelong Spidey fan and someone who ADORES the first movie, I hate to say it, but I’m not feeling this one. There’s nothing especially egregious, but I do think the Twitter user from your first video on the movie’s hype was right. The movie can’t really stand on its own for me, and while I know it was always intended to be a part one of two, I still hoped for an ending that felt satisfactory on its own. Obviously the films are different, but Infinity War succeeds as a self-contained story without Endgame, but I feel this one ending on such a huge cliffhanger with a literal “to be continued” stuck at the end makes it feel like a first issue of a two issue comic arc. I also feel that Spot’s arc is a little too similar to Electro’s in TASM2, just elevated to a multiversal level.
On some positive notes. I think Gwen’s story is excellent, this made me wish she had her own movie. Miles’s relationship with his mother really shines, and it’s special. The visuals are, of course, incredible and the unique feel of every world is a testament to the team that worked on it. The cameos are solid, and don’t feel too heavy-handed, just a fun bit of nice fan-service. Hobie Brown is also a really fun addition to the team, even if I had trouble with his dialogue on occasion. The themes of the film are also really fascinating, with the central question being whether Miles can resist destiny, and what his supposed status as an “accidental” Spider-Man means. Having Gwen’s dad quit the police force thus undermining the “police captain must die” narrative also ties in well to Miles early statement “we’re the same, in all the ways that matter.” There’s just some nice narrative symmetry both within the movie itself and with reference to the first movie.
All in all, I don’t think this is a bad movie by any means, but if I’m entirely honest, I feel much the same way I did after Far From Home. It just didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

i disagree with your final point on it being an incompletely story. not only does gwen undergo a full arc (which is clearly the point of the story of this movie, she has the first and last scene. she's not the main character, but it's a story about her), the delivery of the message of her arc is only less powerful than the message in into because the message in into is just so incredibly well delivered. sure, they don't beat the bad guy, they don't even beat miguel, but they don't do that in infinity war either. Every aspect of a story is here. There's a rising action, a climax, even a falling action. to be fair there's no segment that i'd call a "conlcusion" but i'd hardly say that's the most important part of a story, and even then many things are concluded (gwens arc being the primary example of this). there are 3 acts, each pretty clearly defined. There's setup, there's payoff. Everything that makes up a story is here, there's just more to come. sure, the cliffhanger is unsatisfying, but this is DEFINITELY a complete story. and i have more to say, im just trying to be concise because this is a youtube comment lmao. The only reason the extent of the debunking of the "half a movie" critisism is only ever "but gwen has an arc" is because most people who make that arguement haven't thought that far.

Although it doesnt excuse how this movie ended in a really odd place i think u could argue that miles is the main character of both movies combined but the star of this movie alone is gwen as it tells her complete story and i think the star of the next film alone is Miguel as it will tell his story

I have a theory: we will have a non Spider-Man character in BTSV. Matt Murdock mad a cameo in ITSV, Dr. Strange was namedropped in ATSV. You can’t go beyond the SPIDER-Verse with SPIDER-Man.

Something else to note about Donald Glover’s appearance is how important he is to the character Miles Morales. He was openly hoping to be cast as Spider-man for “Amazing Spiderman” before it went to Andrew Garfield, and racist backlash like “Spiderman can’t be black” led Bendis to create Miles!

I don't know if you saw this, but when Miles is scanned into the Go Home machine, it reads Earth 42. Since we already got multiple teases, I immediately knew what was going on. But I totally agree. I LOVED the twist at the end where he wasn't in the right universe.
