For me personally Spider-man 2 is still the best movie in the Spidey saga, it combines great action sequences with drama, emotion & consequences. Awesome review Cody again you summed up the movie perfectly.

Spider-Man-2(2004) deserves to be known as one of the greatest sequels of all time if I gave it a spot in my Top 10 greatest sequels of all time it would be ranked next to The Dark Knight and The Empire Strikes Back
The best Spider-Man Film, bar none. I remember seeing this in theaters when I was 5 years old. This still holds near my heart. Definitely top ten best superhero films of all time.

This is my favorite sequel of all time and is one of my favorite films ever. This just felt like hardcore Spider-Man for me, and it still feels that way seventeen years later.

9:18 what’s funny is how, in the “No Way Home” villains panel, Alfred Molina totally agreed with your take on Doc Ock. Specifically, when he said “not mustache twirling”. Good take, Cody!
After watching all of these movies again, I still think this is easily the best one. I love Alfred Molina as Doc Ock and he's my favorite Spider-Man villain because of this movie.

6:24 "No Uncle Ben. I'm just Peter Parker. I'm Spider-Man no more. No more." One of the saddest scenes in the film. Peter knows being Spider-Man is important but he also wants and needs a normal life too.
11:50 Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2 inspired the bit with Peter subconsciously pushing his powers away. If you have a problem with that part of the movie, read some comics and learn what you're talking about.
Badass sequel! The scene where Doc Ock’s arms attack all those doctors in the hospital scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. It’s brilliant how Sam Raimi incorporated those elements of horror into these movies
One of the funniest things about this movie is when doc ock throws the car in the shop. He doesn’t know Peter is Spider-Man so what if Peter was just a regular guy and the car hit him 😂😂😂
Plus Mary Jane didn’t know he was Spider-Man at the time that scene happened. Like why wasn’t she like “How did you know that car was gonna fly in here?!?!?”

I’m forever grateful and indebted to both Spider-Man(2002) especially with Spider-Man-2(2004) for kicking off my interest in movies and it’s the one that changed my life forever
This movie is fantastic! Several highlights from this movie that I thought were especially good: Aunt May. Rosemary Harris is, IMO, the best version of Aunt May we get, and this is her at her best. Her reaction when Peter tells her he was indirectly responsible for Uncle Ben's death is incredibly acted. THEN her scene following when she talks to Peter about being a hero is ultra moving. I get slightly teary-eyed when watching it. And they definitely seemed to imply she knew he was Spiderman. And let's acknowledge her best moment: "SHAME on you!" Doc Oc. Although I slightly prefer the over-the-top campiness of Green Goblin (I know I'm probably in the minority on that, but I love me some over-the-top villains with an evil laugh), an amazing character/villain. He had a compelling arc from beginning to end, a bit better woven together, I will concede, than Norman Osborn as Green Goblin. J. Jonah Jameson: I thought out of the three films this was Jameson at his best. In the first one, he was a bit too harsh. In the third one, he was too much of a punchline. The brunt of jokes. In this one, he was the perfect blend of snarky and comedic. His reaction to "Could you pay me in advance?" gets me in stitches every time. Peter's arc was really good in this one, too. I honestly think this movie was pretty flawless. The only element I'm a little mixed on is Mary Jane's "love interest" in this one. The astronaut guy. He's pretty much a bore and a stand-in character. His presence affects the plot of the movie almost none. And similar to how Jango Fett served as the template for the clone army, him being J.J. Jameson's son is completely arbitrary. There's no real compelling story reason for it. But overall, amazing movie.
This was the first ever movie I saw in a theater when I was only 5 years old so I've always had a huge soft spot for this movie also can't wait to see your Spiderman 3 review.
Great review Cody. Made me want to go watch this movie again. The first two Raimi Spider-Man films will forever be treasures to me. They are so good and nervously curious to what they will do with the returning villains in No Way Home.
Also, why does Doc Ock throw a car into the coffee shop? He doesn't know Peter is Spider Man. Therefore, that car would have straight up killed Peter and MJ had Peter not actually been Spider Man. Not the brightest there Otto

Your first mixed I never thought of and is kinda funny actually. Your second mixed I actually yell at the screen everytime, just tell her criminals in a car came from behind and crashed into my scooter while I jumped out of the way and almost got hit, which is exactly what happened. He'd say that easier than I'm spiderman. Good catch! I reviewed all the spiderman movies
Along with the mixed element you mentioned, something that never gets mentioned is that Doc Ock gets punched by Spiderman repeatedly in the face and he's a human while Spiderman was super human and strong enough to stop a train which is hundreds of thousands of pound, just a little plot hole I noticed in this review of it that I saw.
Spider-Man was holding back. Yeah, the movie itself doesn't actually explain that at all, but the comics have directly mentioned the fact that Spider-Man pulls his punches and goes easy on his adversaries. If he were to fight using full force, he would kill almost everybody he went up against.
@@SlasherIncorporated you are right but he only does that against ordinary thugs and normal bad guys. He goes all out against people like green Goblin and Doc Ock especially specifically in these movies because he was struggling against green goblin go back to that fight in the first movie he was getting beat badly by him and Doc Ock was genuinely putting people in danger so he definitely wasn’t holding back. But I see what you mean but yeah that was definitely a plot hole because if that was the case why not hit him hard enough to at least knock him out?😆
@@SlasherIncorporated Like when he beat up Kingpin in the comics and basically said the only reason Fisk could go toe to toe with him all the other times they fought was because Peter was holding back. Superhuman and supernatural beings can take Peter's punches and kicks but him holding back is the only reason normal human criminals he fights aren't crippled, in comas or dead.
Awesome review Cody. This is possibly my favorite comic book film All-time. It delivered on sequel expectations and more. Doc Oc was great, Tobey as always was great. In particular, those two were handled perfectly as characters. The story and writing was on point. That's why this trilogy the Rami trilogy is my favorite. Even the third, even though I wish that was a one villain movie. I can't wait for NWH. I hope it has some surprises in it still. I think its obvious that Tobey and Andrew will show up at the end. A shame cause that's a great theater surprise.
One issue I have with the film is that Doc Ock throws a fricking car at Peter without him knowing that Peter is Spider-Man, like dude, you need him to tell you where Spider-Man is
I actually have a theory on why Peter doesn’t tell Harry about his father being the goblin when he is revealed in Harry’s house, I think it’s because Peter wanted to honor his father’s last dying wish when Norman said “Peter, don’t tell Harry.” But just a theory
yeah, 100%. He didn't want Harry to know his father died a villain. Ironically, as others pointed out, this only took him down a darker path that could have been avoided with honesty on Peter's part.
@@leonardobraynen1524 I think so. Harry spent two years unaware his father was the goblin festering anger that Spider-Man randomly killed him. Once he figured it out at the end of 2 Peter fucking shrugged him off like a mysterious dick all while he was haunted by the trauma ghost. I think if Peter would have told him from the get go what happened he would have been upset but he wouldn’t have turned into goblin junior.
2:54 And before that there was the 2000 Spider-Man game where he got to almost every building in about 2 swings and they had New York be covered in fog because they didn't have the technology to animate a full city at the time.
I get what they were going for but it just bothered me that it's never explained why Peter loses his powers. To me, it removes the human side of Peter when the gist they give you is: you basically have to be perfect emotionally 100% of the time or you will lose your powers.
It is explained, in the scene where he goes to the doctor and he is told that he's fine but it's all in his head. All the stress took away his web powers, like how people can get illnesses and whatnot from stress.
Well at the end of the first one Norman says to peter “please don’t tell Harry” right before he dies so it’s not like it would be out of peters character to respect that wish
I have never sat down and watched a movie like this but I watched it when I found out about the new spider man movies and omg I loved this trilogy and my favorite sequel was this one by far...
Great review Cody and excellent movie! This movie does a fantastic job exploring how being a superhero can ruin your life and like you said Cody, it's refreshing seeing that element of the story because most of the time filmmakers always show how awesome it is to have powers and have popularity from saving people and Alfred Molina managed to be both sympathetic and intimidating at the same time as Doc Ock!
As someone who's fandom goes back to the 80s Saturday Morning Cartoon Series Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, I still like the Rami Trilogy. Spider-Man 2 really feels like an upgrade in many ways. The story, characters & overall vibe improve tremendously. But what really makes the film great is the tremendous heart at the center of the film. This sequel gets the Platinum standard certification rating & is a must own for any Superhero fan.
17:35 "months later" Huh, I always thought it was years later. In _Spider-Man 3_ I thought they say it's been 5 years since Ben died. Maybe I remembered incorrectly
I'm so glad you brought up the thing about Aunt May possibly knowing! I caught those hints when I saw it & couldn't understand why they didn't even mention it in Spider-Man 3. That's really more a complaint about the third movie, though; this is one of the greatest comic book films of all time, right up there with Superman (1978) & Batman (1989). And yes, I'm also a fan of that scene in the operating room; that is a straight-up horror movie scene, a throwback to Raimi's earlier work...
One of my favourite moment in this movie is a little moment like when Ursula offers Peter some cookies and milk, it was so sweet and that small act of kindness is what Peter needed when everything else went wrong for him in this movie And my absolute favourite moment in this movie is when people in the train carried him after he saved the train, it was so beautiful
Omg for a second I thought you added some jingle bells to your outro music! But I think it was just the cymbals sound 😅 but that would be so cool for you to add them for your December content videos. ✨✨
I 100% agree with how Peter was experiencing so much depression that he starts losing his powers. Someone with chronic depression I look at that and it makes perfect sense.
My favorite spidey movies 1. Spider-man 2 2. Into the spider verse 3. The amazing Spider-man 4. Spider-man homecoming 5. Spider-man far from home 6. Spider-man (2002) 7. The amazing Spider-man 2 8. Spider-man 3
In regards to not telling Harry about Normans death - he is trying to keep some type of good memory of his dad since Harry didn't have too many. He didn't want to let him know his dad was a villain which is why, in the first one, he get Norman out of the costume before taking him to Harry.
I was never a diehard Spider-Man fanboy, but I liked the character, I knew the origin, and I knew all the characters from all 3 Raimi films. So, I had fun with all of them. 2 was probably the best constructed of those.
The main reason that Peter didnt tell Harry bout Norman being the Green Goblin was I guess he felt like he didnt want to break the dying wish / "promise" to not tell Harry [in the words of Norman Orborn]
Watched the extended cut of this with a friend over discord a month a go, and I totally feel everything you said. This movie is just so emotionally impactful, and it makes me sad that the new movies don't have half that emotion
Cody this is my favorite Spider-Man movie too! The reason Peter didn’t tell Harry that he didn’t kill his Father is because in the first Spider-Man movie Norman Osborn said to Peter “Don’t tell Harry” just before he died.
I agree with your assessment. This is my personal favorite superhero movie of all time, and yes I have noticed the plot holes and logic gaps you listed, but you left out Ock almost killing Peter with a car after Harry specifically saying not to hurt him. And while Peter is frustrating, MJ continues to cheat on every guy in her life with every OTHER guy…including LEAVING HER FIANCÉ (another Spider-Man villain) at the altar for Peter. But the movie just holds up so well today, including in comparison to more modern superhero movies.
Spider-man 2. Great movie and tie in video game. I would also web swing for hours doing nothing. Until I heard those magic words "oh no my balloon" then it's full on hero mode.
Those balloon side missions were the worst. I liked stopping purse snatchings, taking injured people to hospital, catching carjackers and the like but those whiny kids crying "I LOST MY BALLOONNNNNNNN" got on my nerves.
Awesome shirt man🤙🤙 I went and finally got to see them on 9-28 in Noblesville IN. They opened with Hangar 18 n played almost everything youd expect them too
My second-favorite sequel of all times after Terminator 2 it's got all the fun of the original with a little bit more sprinkled in for me Doctor Octopus made Peter Parker a better person the cast of even better Tobey Maguire is the heart of this movie and my favorite Spider-Man
This is my favorite movie ever! I have always had a fascination with Doc Ock and seeing him in this and portrayed well really made me enjoy this movie. I loved Alfred Molina and I happy cried when I heard he was coming back! This movie was my childhood as well ♡ Great review Cody!
I always interpreted Peter not telling Harry about his father as a way of protecting him. He didn't want to hurt his best friend anymore than he already was
I remember being SO excited for this movie before it came out, having loved the first one so much. It was probably the most anticipated film of 2004. I was actually slightly disappointed with it the first time I watched it. I still thought it was awesome for the most part, and the fights with Doc Ock were incredible! But, for a time, I thought it was the weakest of the trilogy and "There's not so much Spider-Man action in this movie compared to the first film and the third film" was EXACTLY the reason why. I thought it was a bit boring compared to those two. I guess I was just too young and immature at the time to truly appreciate all of what they were going for in this movie. But, having grown up, I can definitely say that I appreciate this film A LOT more now...and can understand why so many people consider it one of the best, if not THE best Spider-Man movie. I also grew more of an appreciation for the character of Doc Ock after seeing it. At first, I was disappointed that they chose him as the villain. When I was kid, I thought he was lame. An overweight, nerdy-looking scientist with metal arms on his back? That's not cool...but the movie did a great job of making him seem cool to me. Now I love Doc Ock. He is up there as one of my favorite Spider-Man villains. Alfred Molina played him to perfection!
Best Spider-Man Movie Possibly best Sam Raimi film Cody I’m 💯 with you on your connection with this film, when I watched this in 2004 I was on R&R while deployed in Iraq, man was this a way to escape that tour for a while but inspired me to continue after watching Peter Parker’s journey in this film.
Best superhero film ever in my opinion which is odd cause when I was a kid this was my least favourite out of the 3 (Spider-Man 3 was my favourite, I still like that movie more than most people but it is my least favourite of the 3 now) but as I’ve grown older I understand what they were going for and this is the one where I relate to Peter the most
I believe that Raindrops keep falling on my head song and Peter being carried by the subway survivors in Homage to Jesus Christ Superstar were put in because those were a big deal at the time in the 60's 70's when Spider-Man was at his peak
To this day, one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. Top 3 no doubt! Everything that is right comes together in this film & solidified Tobey as the GOAT Spider-Man
I adore this movie. It's one of the best superhero movies ever made and the game is one of the best superhero and movie adapted games ever made. These modern MCU movies are good, but nothing will ever compare to being 12 years old seeing this movie in theaters in 2004.
Wish I could of have that experience, as I said to big K. as a kid, I found it boring but as I matured, I realized just how important this movie was to me. Not just as a comic book fan or a movie fan, but as a fan of good story telling in general.
I saw this movie in OKC after going to my grandma’s funeral. Not exactly a great reason to go see a movie but I was a kid and my sister took me to see it so I wouldn’t be so sad after the funeral.
I can respect that. While I know I'm not the only one who says this, I'll make it brief. While the fist Spider-Man movie is indeed fun, the sequel is indeed the best and as I said earlier, this is more than just my favorite comic book movie, this IS my favorite movie.
@@Merit2397 it really is amazing and it's definitely not a bad choice for your favorite movie. Also as I stated it's not my favorite Spider-Man film but I do admit it is the best of the series and I do love it.
@@bigkmoviesandgames Perfectly understandable. The reason Spider-Man 2 is my favorite is mostly personal, so I'll keep it summarized. Ironically when I was a kid, I thought it was the most boring of the original trilogy because it was most like a drama, that changed as I got older. The film tackles the subject of sacrifice, something we all have to go through at one point or another. It is a very human, well thought out and not story not just about Peter Parker but is almost a perfect mirror of all the trail and tribulations we have to go though in the real world. What is the moral right? How can one balance a personal life without pushing away the people around you, and what we have to give up and is it even worth it? On top of that, it's a movie that can tackle all of this and yet still end with a sign of hope.
For me personally Spider-man 2 is still the best movie in the Spidey saga, it combines great action sequences with drama, emotion & consequences.

2:54 And before that there was the 2000 Spider-Man game where he got to almost every building in about 2 swings and they had New York be covered in fog because they didn't have the technology to animate a full city at the time.
By far my fav spiderman movie. Doc ock was such a good villan. Great ark for both villain and the hero. Toby kills it as parker.
The first is amazing but this is better on almost every level for me.
I just love how a Bruce Campbell has a cameo in all 3 movies and he's even the narrator in the movie games
Well at the end of the first one Norman says to peter “please don’t tell Harry” right before he dies so it’s not like it would be out of peters character to respect that wish
love the review! and happy ur full time ytber now!!
I have never sat down and watched a movie like this but I watched it when I found out about the new spider man movies and omg I loved this trilogy and my favorite sequel was this one by far...
i understand why peter didnt tell harry because he was respecting what Norman wanted he told him not to tell harry in the first one
Aunt May in these movie are done PERFECTLY
The movie that made me a spider fanatic since.
I’m not really a big super hero fan but I love spider man 2002 and this one
Dude i still love SPIDERMAN & his AMAZING FRIENDS 2 this day! Loved *ICEMAN!* And then the 90s Spiderman TAS. Really shows my age lol
One of my favorite superhero movies of all time !!!!!!
Great review Cody and take care and stay safe 👍.
Honestly as a kid, and til this day, the hospital scene TRAUMATIZED me
But overall, great review Cody. Freaking love Spider-Man 2
My favorite Spiderman movie and my favorite superhero movie of all time
17:35 "months later" Huh, I always thought it was years later.
One of my favourite moment in this movie is a little moment like when Ursula offers Peter some cookies and milk, it was so sweet and that small act of kindness is what Peter needed when everything else went wrong for him in this movie
And my absolute favourite moment in this movie is when people in the train carried him after he saved the train, it was so beautiful
As for as comic book film with emotional core I love this as well as Endgame and Logan. Those are my top 3
Perfect review brother, Cannot wait for Spider-Man 3 review
My favorite spidey movies
1. Spider-man 2
2. Into the spider verse
3. The amazing Spider-man
4. Spider-man homecoming
5. Spider-man far from home
6. Spider-man (2002)
7. The amazing Spider-man 2
8. Spider-man 3
I know this comment is two years ago but where do rank spider-man no way home?
@@BrandonHaymon probably the new number 3.
This is not only my favorite Spider-man movie, not ONLY is this my favorite comic book movie, but this is also my favorite movie period.
I loved this movie when I saw this in theaters back in '04.
Current day still love the movie plus a few nitpicks here and there.
@@Xehanort10 absolutely. In the ultimate spiderman game as venom the first thing you get to do is pop a kid's balloon.
He didn't tell him because Norman said dont tell Harry
This was my favorite Spider-Man film I love the first one but this one is still top tier of my favorite Spider-Man films
Awesome shirt man🤙🤙
I went and finally got to see them on 9-28 in Noblesville IN.
They opened with Hangar 18 n played almost everything youd expect them too
Greatest superhero movie of all time!
My second-favorite sequel of all times after Terminator 2 it's got all the fun of the original with a little bit more sprinkled in for me Doctor Octopus made Peter Parker a better person the cast of even better Tobey Maguire is the heart of this movie and my favorite Spider-Man
The hospital scene!! So good. Definitely my favorite in all 3 films.
He didn't want to hurt his best friend anymore than he already was
This is my favorite of the trilogy.
Still one of my favourite films of all time, top 10 easy, I love it to death one of the best movies ever.
Best Spider-Man Movie
Possibly best Sam Raimi film
Cody I’m 💯 with you on your connection with this film, when I watched this in 2004 I was on R&R while deployed in Iraq, man was this a way to escape that tour for a while but inspired me to continue after watching Peter Parker’s journey in this film.
His promise to Norman was to never to tell Harry. That’s why he ignores Harry at that moment
Spider-Man 2 is my favorite big the 3. I absolutely love this movie ❤️❤️
To this day, one of my favorite superhero movies of all time. Top 3 no doubt! Everything that is right comes together in this film & solidified Tobey as the GOAT Spider-Man
My favorite spider-man film 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ even though i’m not big on Tobey crybaby Spidey.
I adore this movie. It's one of the best superhero movies ever made and the game is one of the best superhero and movie adapted games ever made. These modern MCU movies are good, but nothing will ever compare to being 12 years old seeing this movie in theaters in 2004.
This movie and X-men 2 were the best comic movies at that point. Good times back then.
I remember when I use to play that one plug n play spiderman game
Hey I live in GA as well! Great review btw Cody.
Next to The Dark Knight, this is my favorite super hero movie!
17:43 **SPOILERS** Because Norman Osborn told Spider-Man not to tell Harry before his death…..
Not only the best spiderman movie ever but the best superhero movie ever imo
when I first got to see it in the theatre it was a raw and uncompromising experience for me
Wish I could of have that experience, as I said to big K. as a kid, I found it boring but as I matured, I realized just how important this movie was to me. Not just as a comic book fan or a movie fan, but as a fan of good story telling in general.
@@Merit2397 my experience was cathartic and it changed my life forever
I saw this movie in OKC after going to my grandma’s funeral. Not exactly a great reason to go see a movie but I was a kid and my sister took me to see it so I wouldn’t be so sad after the funeral.
Unpopular opinion: Spider-Man 3 isn't bad.
Agreed!
I would go as far as to say it's a good movie. It finished the trilogy on such a beautiful note.
Yeah
You're not alone, I actually have fond memories of seeing it myself.
Thee best spiderman movie made. Out of all of them. Ever.
While the first film is my favorite this one is definitely the best Spider-Man film.
What about you? What makes the first movie your favorite?
@@Merit2397
Yeah I completely agree. As I got older I liked it more as well. Although I still think mj is very toxic.
This is a perfect movie in my eyes
