I think Green Goblin’s mask was actually awesome looking. I don’t like how ASM2 Goblin became a LITERAL little Goblin with the ears and everything I think that looks even goofier than Raimi’s version, and while I do agree the suit from the Raimi movie is goofy I think the mask makes up for it. That scene in Spider-Man 1 where Dafoe’s Goblin attacks Aunt May worked so well, and looked horrifying with the lighting and that mask especially as he slowly glides towards her. Oh yeah and the fact that Dafoe just does his own stunts mostly, especially in No Way Home and some of the shit he does in that movie, is so impressive even for his age.
Dafoe's performance is honestly what makes him the green goblin that always comes to mind. Say what you want about the costume, (I personally like it, and prefer it to any latex moving mask or even turning into a real goblin like TASM2), but there's a reason why everyone lost their minds when they realized he was coming back in No Way Home. And getting rid of the mask to hone in on Dafoe's performance was absolutely the right move. He was just outstanding in this movie, similar to what Heath Ledger did for the Joker.
I always liked the dafoe goblin suit, it has a perfect in universe explanation for its design and armor type look being the flight suit for the glider. I know everyone says it looks power rangers but I disagree, it’s the perfect suit for the Raimi universe. Also when we get to see his eyes and mouth through the mask is remarkably effective.
@@Possum880 I agree with you. It is a cool suit in my opinion and I like the explanation they came up with for it. But considering Spiderman 1 is a full movie with him having the mask on, I love that we also get an unmasked goblin for most of No Way Home that gives a different experience with the same actor.
I dig the mask too. At the time it might have been cheesy, but it's now become nostalgic for me and probably for a lot of people who grew up on it at a young age. I was actually a little disappointed that it wasn't heavily featured in No Way Home. It was still cool to see it though, even it was only for a couple of minutes.

Green Goblin is not only my favourite Marvel villain, but my favourite supervillain overall. Willem Dafoe only solidified that.
Oddly enough, I agree on Carnage being lower for two reasons: 1, because the voice felt too deep, and 2, because they didn't get Cletus and Carnage's relationship right. They're supposed to be a better match than Eddie and Venom, almost never disagree on anything, and refer to themselves as "I" instead of "we".
I’m pretty sure Cletus became one with the Symbiote. He refers to himself as "I" because he gained control over it. After all, the Symbiote did go through his bloodstream.
I'm like you on my top two, except I give the razor-thin edge to Green Goblin. I've always loved the over-the-top camp of Dafoe's portrayal.

Even though he's not really a MCU villain, Willem Green Goblin is literally in my top 3 MCU villains with Thanos and Loki. MCU is famous for struggling with making the villains compelling compared the heros, and he is literally one of the best from ONE movie.
How is he not really an MCU villain?

8:55 The Raimi trilogy built up Peter and Harry's friendship and eventual enmity across 3 films but Amazing Spider-Man 2 just expects you to buy that Harry who didn't appear and wasn't mentioned in the first film is Peter's best friend. And his whole story in it is just "You wouldn't give me some of your blood to try and cure myself Peter so I'm gonna kidnap and kill Gwen to spite you."
yeah completely disagree with TASM2 Goblin being ranked higher than Sandman, Carnage, hell even Topher Grace Venom. TASM2 Goblin was laughable
I wouldn’t call Mysterio a buffoon. In Spiderman TAS, he pretty much made Peters life hell and did the same plot he did in Far From Home but he made everyone hate Spiderman by framing him and pushed him to nearly give up being the hero. I would say he’s a pretty cool villain, like using his illusions to mess with peoples lives. Mysterio has always been a cool badass villain. Vulture, to some degree I agree though in TAS they make him able to steal your damn life energy to mark himself young.
Absolutely agree on 1 & 2, easily. Especially Doc Ock. I love my tragic, complex villains (possible lame take but Mr. Freeze is my favorite villain of all time bc of that) and his design/powers are just cool as hell. Alfred Molina brings the character to life and embodies him imo. Interesting fun fact, octopi and other cephalopods have some of the most complex nervous systems of any animal on earth and are *very* intelligent. I like to think that was taken into consideration for his character.

Though James Franco's Harry Osborn is my favorite character on this list, I feel like Willem Dafoe's Goblin is a better villain because he never stopped wanting to kill Spider-Man. So i ranked him higher than Harry.
My villians ranking is(with only the first four to be consider great villains in my eyes):
1. Green Goblin because he’s great as the lunatic psychopath and as Peter’s arch rival.
2. Sandman. I really love the actor’s silent emotion. Also love all his interactions with all the characters he is pair with, all but Venom.
3. Vulture. A great starting Villian and best part of the first two MCU Spidey films.
4. Doctor Octopus: I loved him in both films, but hated how quickly and predictably he became a good guy in No Way Home.
5. The Lizard. He was a good threat to Andrew’s Spidey and I actually liked how he was the comic relief in No Way Home.
6. Electro Before No Way Home he was way lower, but I still didn’t loved how drastically they changed him and I still hate his first appearance.
7. Little Goblin Junior. He wasn’t a full on villain but I liked him in the Raimi trilogy, as a friend and as a foe.
8. Mysterio. I didn’t care much for the fake hero act and out of all MCU Tony Stark related villains, he is the one that I roled my eyes on the most.
9. Venom. Too little, too late and too much Topher Grace with bad dental hygiene.
10. “Shocker”. I actually liked this villain but since the 2000’s Spider-Man games where he was actually a threat, he has become a throwaway Spidey villain.
11. The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s “Green Goblin”. Never go full Goblin!
12. Rhino. The worst of the worst.
As for Kingpin From Spiderverse, I thought he was way overrated and didn’t care for him and I would put him between Topher Grace’s Venom and “Shocker”, same goes for the Venom villains which I also didn’t care for at all!
Also growing up with the Raimi films, it's hard not to rank Green Goblin and Doc Ock at the top. They're classic! But I REALLY adored Mysterio in Far From Home. I honestly would have a hard time having to rank the three of them and It's awesome that current Marvel is now developing villains that match the quality of the likes of Raimi Green Goblin and Doc Ock.
I agree, carnage was a huge disappointment for me. If I could recast him, I would have chosen Jackie Earl Haley. He would’ve played a dark serial killer to perfection.

One of the things that kept me from loving Mysterio was some of the writing besides the glasses and Stark shenanigans. In particular, what was his end goal? Yeah, he wanted to become the world's most revered superhero by creating fake threats, but what was his plan in the event of a real one?
I'm curious, Cody have you ever seen the 2 Seasons if Spectacular Spider-Man, I feel they perfectly capture everything about all the villains in that show as well as all the characters and the struggles and consequences. It's a shame they cancelled it but I'm sure you would love it, especially the utilization of Goblin.

Doc Ock is my favorite villian in the spiderman universe. I like how he saves New York from being totally destroyed, he gained his humanity back. The arms is what made him act the way he did.
I think Green Goblin is probably the better "Spider-Man villain" but Doc Ock is a better and more complex character overall.

Doc Ok or Mysterio my guys personally, i just love the vibe of octavius & Jake Gyllenghal nailed Mysterio !!! Green Goblin is Spider-man’s “Joker” though and the goat.

I'd only switch out #1 and #2, because the Goblin can actually be terrifying at times (especially in No Way Home) + messes with Peter's life more than Ock ever did. For the rest, solid list, Cody! Merry Christmas!

Personally I liked sandman and also never minded the Green Goblin suit in the first Spiderman movie (and the “over the top” craziness does fit the character and was done well).
I still wanna see Kraven the Hunter, Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Demogoblin, Jackal, Black Cat, Chameleon, Tombstone, Vermin, Swarm, Jack O Lantern... there's so many minor villains that are awesome. Lol

I like that your list is much different than Sean Chandler. Rewatched Spiderman 2 with my kid this week, Doc Oc is simply the best. Not that other villains are not cool, I adore green goblin in NWH, but Doc Oc to me is in a league of his own. The way Raimi used the tentacles 👌

I noticed Venom and Green Goblin 2014 have the same problem
Both original had people they like who they think betrayed them
Both team up with the main villains of the movies
Both have one scene where they immediately succumb to something ( a symbiote and spider venom)
They both immediately dive head first into a fight with Spider-Man and kill someone close to him
They get defeated and they are gone snd are never seen again
Both were flashed forward which is a problem as Venom Green Goblin and Dr Octopus are Spider-Man's arch enemies and need time to get develop as they already had Sandman and Electro and the latters come off as being shoehorn in
Strong enough to have it all. Too weak to take it!

Great list and I have to say I love your videos. I would have a similar list except would probably just move lizard up to be ahead of harry Osborn in the webbverse because he felt more developed in his connection to Peter and the plot overall. While the other low ranking ones all felt like rush jobs.

I’d like to see jackal - I feel like a clone saga plot is a classic story that would be a natural thing to adapt. I cant think of another heavy hitter other than maybe morlun who has had such an impact on Peter in the comics who hasn’t been done yet. That would’ve been a natural AS3 story.
Hobgoblin would be too redundant at this point. The remaining big guys would be kraven and chameleon - They are brothers so you could fit them into one plot. I think a kraven story would have to lean on Kraven’s last hunt.
Like everyone else on Earth, I also would like to see him go against donofrio’s kingpin.

@@CodyLeachYT I think shocker is such a half-assed villain in that movie that it literally is embarrassing that they considered that the shocker. Not only are there two of them but neither one has a full costume and literally both of them only wear one shock glove. fuck that nonsense. It really sucks to because I'm a big shocker fan but I guess we just won't get a proper one anytime soon.

Whilst I do like Doc Ock, I've never loved the Alfred Molina interpretation. It's purely personal preference for me, he's the perfect actor for the role and they did an incredible job making him truly menacing with the arms nd he's still a good character, I just prefer Doc Ock when he's more of an outright bad person. To me the comic Doc Ock is a guy who isn't that good of a person even before getting the arms, but since they did that with the Green Goblin in the first film I get why they didn't want to repeat that. To me I just don't completely buy the transition from the guy who we see at the beginning to the guy who drops an old lady off a building then says butterfingers. I think the PS4 game was my favorite adaptation in terms of balancing the sympathetic aspects but still showing that in truth he's a bad person who was just good at hiding it.
Dafoe's Green Goblin I love, NWH I agree captured that personal element to the rivalry, but I also wish it wasn't another one and done appearance, and having it basically be a borrowed villain didn't completely sit right with me.
I think my favorite villain is still Mysterio, I've always liked the premise of that villain and the way they managed to adapt that and also make him more of a serious threat who leaves a lasting impression on Peter's life was great, just hoping we see him again eventually. Whilst the Vulture I thought was a great example of taking a villain and drastically reworking them, Mysterio was a great example of how you don't always need to change up that much, especially when the ridiculousness of the design was always intentional.
You left out several movie villains. Like Shocker in Homecoming and some of the villains in Into the Spider-Verse.

I personally don’t like Mysterio while I do like his illusion scenes and how he attacks Peter psychologically but he’s such a whiny child who’s motive is stupid he’s mad cause he got fired and his tech was called BARF and his plan makes absolutely no sense he wants to be “the earths greatest hero” like what is he gonna go when an actual threat comes he can’t do anything so his plan makes absolutely no sense and Goblin is my number 1 I love his goblin suit but ooof nwh made me love him even more he was the villain with the most focus and was absolutely amazing/terrifying
Connecting them to Tony was an issue for both Vulture in Homecoming and Mysterio in Far From Home. Without the Stark stuff it would have been similar to his first appearance in the comics where he pretends to be Spider-Man and commits crimes he frames the real deal for so he can "catch" him as Mysterio and become a hero.
Did you know that Jake Gyllenhaal who played mysterio in far from home almost replaced Tobey in Spider-Man 2 when maguire suffered a back injury while he was filming seabiscuit and Jake almost took his spot but maguire recovered in time to film Spider-Man 2 And also how would you felt if that happened back in 2004

No. Watch No Way Home again. It all makes sense. Even how Electro arrives makes sense . Listen to the dialog . The reason Flint and Dr Connors turned is because they wanted to live and they already didn’t trust Tom Holland Spider Man. When Green Goblin and Electro turned Sandman and The Lizard simply lost faith in the plan and went after the box containing the spell . So Dr Connor’s and Sandman were giving Peter a shot at the plan but when the plan went bad they decided to fend for themselves. I hope I conveyed that well. It’s simple though.
Spiderman Villains we still have yet to see that have never been seen before: Black Cat, MCU Prowler, Scorpion, Mr. Negative, Swarm, Jackal, Chameleon, Doppleganger, Silver Sable, Silvermane, Hammerhead, Tombstone, Alistair Smythe, Hobgoblin etc.. soon you'll need to update this video with Toxin and Kraven The Hunter's Father I think Toxin will be the big bad for Venom 3

I don't agree that the green Goblin look of tasm 2 is better than the original green Goblin from Spiderman 1.
I absolutely didn't mind the suit at all, it wasn't as bad as many in the internet make it.
Also the sandman & venom of 3 are rated too low from the other top villains & I felt they're better than the villains of the other future Spider-Man villains.
Maybe mysterio really knocked it out better than them.
I feel like Goblin and Venom are his most important greatest villians of all time because goblin is the joker to his batman literally. Norman is like a father figure almost too. While Venom is the exact opposite of Peter Parker Spidey. His Dual Personality if you will.

I was super disappointed with the Shocker in Spider-Man homecoming. Not only did they throw both version of Shocker into 1 movie neither one of them had a complete costume and they only had one shock glove. They were literally half-assed which sucks because I'm a big shocker fan and for them to not give him his mask, the traditional outfit, or two shock gloves is just an embarrassment.
He may come back in the future with Vulture finding and recruiting him again
