      I don't like how Goblin Lizard look in this movie. I wanted them to upgrade Goblin and Lizard and they didn't do that. I wanted Lizard to look more like a Crocodile and Goblin to actually wear makeup but NOO! I guess they still consider it too scary. His hobogoblin look is ridiculous.

    This movie isn't AS good as the first two, but I still really like it! It is kinda "all over the place" to an extent, and is a bit crowded villain-wise, but I still found the story arcs captivating. I'm a little mixed on how they kinda retconned Uncle Ben's manner of dying, but they do manage to get a nice message out of it in the end. I actually like in this one how Mary Jane is the one going through the "Who am I? What am I worth?" crisis instead of Peter, while he's pretty much riding high.
    And again, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May kills it, maybe not quite as much as in the second one. But I just love the scene where when Peter is telling her that Spiderman killed Uncle Ben's killer with such pride, expecting her to be happy, and to his surprise and disappointment instead just says, "Well, Spiderman doesn't kill people," and then, what I think is clearly her best lines in the film: "I don't think it's for us to say who deserves to live or die. Uncle Ben meant the world to us. But he wouldn't want us living one second with revenge in our hearts. It's like a poison. It can take you over. Before you know it, turn us into something ugly." Which is another thing about Sam Raimi's Spiderman that I don't think you get with what we've gotten after, is the quotable lines from the films.
    And okay, Emo Peter is HILARIOUS! I don't know if that's what their intention was or not, but I love that part because I just crack up as he's dancing and acting all "cool" going down the street.
    I actually think J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons' character) was made a little too much the brunt of jokes in this one. I think they struck the perfect balance of him being snarky and comedic in the second one. His best moment for me will always be his reaction to "Could you pay me in advance?"

    YES!! Spider-Man 3 is so underrated. The only negative I truly have is that Venom is very rushed BUT even Venom has an intense fight at the climax of the movie. I really enjoy the action, the humor and the emotional character arcs. Oh, and the cameo of Bruce Campbell is the best one out of the trilogy. Such an underrated movie.

    And to your point on that sequence in SM3 being the sane thing in 2 just a little different, is the same way I feel about Bride and Seed of Chucky. There the same film. That's why their the only two child's play films I hate equally.

    Thank you, Cody! Finally someone is defending the widely-maligned Spider-Man 3. For 14 years, I have gotten non-stop shit from everyone I have ever known for liking this movie and defending it…to the point where people don’t consider me a “real” Spidey fan because I enjoy watching this flick. Yes, it is the weakest of the trilogy, it has a fuck ton of flaws, and it’s a huge step down from the perfection of Spidey 2, but goddammit! This movie is so enjoyable. The dance stuff makes sense! Peter is an old school dorky nerd, so his perception of what it means to be cool would look like that. The only thing I disagree with you on is Sandman. I loved him as a villain (including his daughter motive) and think he should have been the main villain. I would either take out (and recast) Venom or at least tease him at the end for the sequel (that we never got). Spidey 3 is still good fun and it closes the trilogy nicely. I tear up when Peter and MJ embrace at the end exchanging no words, only looks. Haters can calm the hell down. Lol I adore the Raimi trilogy and it was a pleasure being able to see them in theaters from age 10-15. I would rather watch Spidey 3 than the 2 Garfield movies any day of the week. 🤷‍♂️

    I’m so glad we share the same thoughts on this movie. I grew up with it, I love bully maguire but agree the bar scene is too much and is dumb, I maybe don’t mind Topher Grace as much as others (never saw that 70s show tbf) but the face revealing does get annoying rather than showing venom more and not getting more venom lines outside of his recruit of sandman. I do however prefer topher grace’s venom in spider man 3 to the Tom hardy venom and I am going off of the first movie (haven’t seen Let There Be Carnage). The Harry/Peter storyline comes to a great conclusion and this movie honestly tops the first Spider-Man for me. I like the first one a lot but the green goblin suit kinda hurts the movie on rewatch. Obviously no where near Spider-Man 2 but in all I really enjoy this trilogy and is up there as one of my favorites of all time. Fingers crossed for Tobey Maguires return in No Way Home!

    I saw the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy for the very first time a couple months ago. And I went into Spider-Man 3 with an open mind, despite all the hate the movie gets (I was a senior in high school at the time and I remember my friends saying they went to the premiere and half the theater was heckling the movie). Honestly? I didn't hate it. Yeah, it was clearly subpar compared to the previous two movies, and there were groan-worthy parts, but it really wasn't that bad. It definitely wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Like you said, I think it they got rid of either Sandman or Venom, it would have been much better, and if they reworked Sandman's backstory it could have worked too.

I hate Avi Arad for all the interference with this movie. If he didn't interfere as much Venom would have done better. He doesn't even call himself Venom. The line in the comics is "We are poison to Spider-man that is why we call ourselves Venom" It would have been so cool to hear that.

    Well said, Cody! I completely agree with you. I am a Spider-Man 3 defender as well. I've never understood why people hate this movie. Is it flawed? Yes. I get all the issues that people have with it. Is it the weakest of the trilogy? Sure. But is it this god-awful, complete dumpster-fire that MOST fans make it out to be? Absolutely not! I love this movie despite its problems. It's action-packed from start to finish with some awesome fight scenes, it has a great message about the importance of forgiveness and how seeking revenge can change a person, and wrapped up all the storylines quite nicely. Like you said, even though I would have loved to have seen more from this version of Spider-Man...I am satisfied with this being the conclusion of the story. It doesn't leave anything unresolved or set anything up that leaves you hanging. This definitely works as "the end".
    It's a shame that this was followed up with The Amazing Spider-Man, though, which I didn't really dig. In retrospect, I wish that Spider-Man 4 hadn't been cancelled and got made instead of that. Funny how, despite being rebooted twice...this is still the best set of Spider-Man movies...at least for ME. They haven't topped Sam Raimi's trilogy. No Way Home might the closest they ever get to doing it, but that's mainly because they are piggy-backing off these older films to an extent. They are taking us on a nostalgia trip, and I'm there for it.

    My gripe with this was Sandman arc we never find out if daughter survives her cancer it would been nice had scene with his daughter in remission & why he did what he did was for love & forgiven for going down life of crime path, love the church scenes as Peter fighting save himself ripping off the black suit very atmospheric scene.
    I'd cut the Peter/Mary Jane scene at the club it drags on too long & added Sandman scenes with his daughter.
    But overall despite some dodgy CGI this is a solid conclusion to the Raimi trilogy & I wish Sam & Tobey had continued & made another movie.

    It’s very much frustrating to know that Sam brought Sony so much money and praise from the first two Spider-Man movies, and yet they didn’t trust in his third vision that they had to fan service venom into the plot. I could imagine this movie without sandman and it feels like it would’ve been a more solid better movie. Due to him being so large. When he is in monster form I could still see him and Harry attacking sandman. Make sandman do more evil things die to the pressure and attacks of Spider-Man. Until the end they both recognize that their violence was only bringing more pain into the world. They could forgive each other for jumping to conclusions and attacking one another. This is considering that they don’t put the Bens death retcon. If they wanted to add that it could still be the same message. How not knowing and not understanding a persons position could cause more pain.

Seeing him kiss Gwen probably made her think "Oh our kiss wasn't special after all and he'd kiss any other woman that way." I know they were going for Peter's fame and popularity as Spider-Man going to his head after years of being bullied by the likes of Flash Thompson but they didn't do it very well.

    But it feels like a conclusion to the trilogy, and all 3 films have the same feel and voice (looking at you, new Star Wars trilogy).
    The theater experience for this one, I'll never forget. It was the first time I went to a midnight show, right before opening day. The place was packed, and loud, until the movie started, and everyone shut up, kept their fucking phones on silent, and immersed themselves in the movie experience. Agreed on showing Topher Grace's face constantly once he became Venom, we don't need to see it every time he talks. Just leave it as Venom, Topher Grace didn't have an intimidating face to pull that off. I also feel they just threw Gwen Stacy in there to be "the other woman" to make MJ jealous, instead of having respect for the actual character and relationship she had with Peter in the comics (and Amazing Spider-Man films).
    And lastly, just leave it as one villain, or at best two with Harry and Peter being conflicted between the light and dark. This was before the MCU-era where they balanced having multiple characters in one movie and even then there's usually just one main villain. The Raimi Spiderman films were arguably to the 2000's what the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman films were to the 90's and the Richard Donner Superman films were to the late 70's-80's, they defined the era before there were so many superhero movies, so their flaws were more evident, because the market wasn't as saturated with them. But the point is, the more successful ones focused on one hero and one big villain, then studios got "ambitious", for lack of a better term, and had to throw 2 or more villains in the later films and it just became overkill, especially with the more cartoony Schumacher Batman films. This movie didn't need Sandman and could've done more with Venom and Harry instead.

      Symbiote Spider-Man and Venom should have been saved for a later film. They should have gotten a better actor than Topher Grace to play Eddie Brock too. This film's version of Gwen was only there for a forced love triangle between her, Peter and Mary Jane and to give Eddie an obsession.

    Love the movie, love this trilogy with my whole heart. If you consider all 3 movies as 1 movie like people go with Lord of the Rings or Back to the Future, it would be my favorite movie of all-time. I cry every time at the final scene with Sandman. The message of forgiveness is so beautiful. I also lose it when Harry calls Peter his friend as he dies. Cheesy sure, but I’ve grown so attached to that trio after these 3 movies, that it hits so hard.

    Hi Cody, I just saw Spider-Man 3 for the first time tonite 6/5/22 & I Don't understand the hate for it either, as too really like A lot about it, especially its theme about forgiveness, & semi Happy & hopeful ending, despite it's flaws. Thus I truly Appreciate Your review of Spiderman 3;😊 I Also really liked RUclipsr Joe Blo's detailed review of why Spider-Man 3 is actually a very good film, & 1 other RUclipsr's detailed retrospective of it, but I don't recall his name.

    From what I discovered, Sam Raimi originally wanted Harry Osborn to be conflicted over whether or not he would become the Goblin to kill his best friend Peter Parker/Spider-Man for his father’s death and Raimi not only wanted Sandman as the villain, but he also wanted to use the Vulture as a second villain with Ben Kingsley in the part before he was forced to put Venom in the movie.

    18:59 In other versions the symbiote either took over the sleeping Peter's body to swing around New York or made him angrier and more aggressive which in this film you only see when he shouts at Mr Ditkovich to fix the door of the flat, when he tries to kill Sandman and when he beats up and scars Harry. In no other continuity does it make him act like an idiot. The people who go "He's acting like what a geek thinks is cool" are just trying to defend a bad scene.

    Say what you want about Spider-Man 3 but the battles, the special effects (especially the parts involving the sandman’s transformation) it is SOOO badass and nostalgic! It was so ahead of its time back then. It fits so well after the final battles in: ‘Spider-Man 1,’ and ‘Spider-Man 2.’ I can only imagine how awesome it was to see this film in the theater back in 2007.

    I didn't think this movie was that good, but it certainly didn't bother me that much. At least the good parts can make the film watchable, and most of the bad can be made fun of or tided over with a few shots of whiskey (sometimes both). It kind of reminds me of Batman Forever; it has its many flaws, but the film can still be a lot of fun if seen the right way.

  • @MAMoreno
    @MAMoreno 2 года назад +4

    This one is a messier film than the first two, but I still find it the most watchable of Raimi's trilogy. The Peter/MJ relationship finally doesn't have me wanting to tear my eyes out, for one. (Oh, how I'm looking forward to you reaching Peter/Gwen!) And it thankfully leans into the silliness that Raimi does better than the honest character moments.

    I totally get the concept of the sequence walking down the street mirroring the one from Spider-man 2. To me, the problem is it held Peter back from going as dark as I would've liked to have seen. I really love the fight in Harry's penthouse, but I wanted more of that. I think Maguire could've done a lot with a further descent into darkness.
    My other issue was making Sandman sympathetic. Why do we have to do this again? They weren't going to match or top the portrayal of Doc Ock, because, tbh, Sandman isn't nearly interesting enough to do so.

  • @corpsedesecrator2612
    @corpsedesecrator2612 2 года назад +1

    This movie rules for Bully Maguire the meme king the single most ridiculously OP and broken character in fiction will say “I’m going to put some dirt in your eyes” and you’ll be out of there as well as more Mr Ditkovich asking for rent memes!!! This movie still holds well in all seriousness I’ll choose this over anything MCU puts out any day. If they wanted to do a Royale tag team fight I don’t think they should’ve out Venom in this movie instead you can have Sandman there and add some else like Rhino, Mysterio, Electro those would have been better villains suited for this where as Venom if he was to be in the movie should be the central focus due to how important and personal he is with Peter same goes for villains like Carnage or The Lizard these are more personal characters and having them in a Battle Royale in this fashion kinda takes away from that and just makes them seem characters in the background of the fight. Or they could’ve made Spiderman 3 broken down into 2 parts and 2 movies I think that would’ve been the better choice.

  • @JoelKellenProductions
    @JoelKellenProductions 2 года назад

    I'm still going to say this for as long as I have to, but Spider-Man 3 should've been split into two parts. I should've began with Peter getting the symbiote suit, fighting Sandman and Harry, with part 1 ending in him finally getting it off and Eddie becoming Venom as a cliffhanger. Then part 2 could've been Eddie (not just as Venom) setting out to completely ruin Peter's life, not just kill him, and he'd enlist the help of Sandman for it. But it was still enjoyable, I just feel that at the very least, the film should've been longer since there were three villains.

    15:13 It also takes away from the original film where the point was that if Peter had stopped Dennis Carradine from stealing the wrestling promoter's money instead of letting him go Uncle Ben would still be alive. And Flint Marko forgetting he had a gun and accidentally pulling the trigger killing Ben was stupid too. Hearing that his uncle died because Flint was an idiot should have pissed Peter off more not made him forgive him.

    I think this movie should have been split into two to let this 3rd movie breathe a little more. Maybe introduce Venom somewhat as a cliffhanger to stick in the 4th movie where he can have it all with Spiderman. I do agree though, that this movies big bad should have been Harry. It would have made the narrative run more smoothly throughout. When it comes to Sandman? Cool villan, but we didn't need him. I do accept what Sam Raimi had to work with and I do think he made the best of it.
