Sadly the studio heads were so adamant about setting up the Sinister Six they ruined the foundation that was set in the first entry. I remember being so put off by the change in tone. But what I will say is that the CG is probably the best I've seen out of all the Spider-Man films so far. Its very much a feast for the eyes as you've said. Lol I honestly use this movie anytime I buy a new 4k TV.

This my favorite of the spiderman movies. I have lots of nostalgia for the two of these movies. The movies I watched the most as a little kid were Spiderman 3 and Amazing Spiderman 2. Which are the ones most people hate. I'm rewatching them all before no way home and I gotta say I still love them both. I started to see some flaws in Spiderman 3 but I still absolutely love it. Amazing Spiderman 2 is still my favorite. I have few if any problems with it. Just my opinion, and I respect yours. Have a good day Cody!
I’m in the minority but This is my 4th favorite Spider-Man film. It’s a blast to watch I love the dynamic between Peter and Gwen. And the ending is just a tearjerker. I understand why most people have this at the bottom of their lists though
People shouldn't blame MARC WEBB for the failure of this franchise They should blame AVI ARAD for stuffing so many characters so he could sell as many toys as possible

It was strange. I was 14, very suicidal when this came out. I grew up with the Rami films and still love them so damn much. But I became obsessed with the first film with Andrew Garfield for some reason. It helped me a lot. When the second one came out, I told everyone it was the best Spider-Man film ever made!!! But now that I’m older I see all the flaws. But this film will always find a special place in my heart. I love the character of Spider-Man so much. Always have.
I hated this film when I first watched it. But I gotta admit, I think it gets way too much hate than it deserves. It is totally not flawless but it's not like Batman and Robin bad. It has a lot of great ideas that just deserved a better execution.
I prefer Batman and Robin myself. At least you still feel like Schumacher made a Schumacher movie,regards how it feels. This feels divorced from Webbs sensibilities or the sensibilities of the character in the worse possible ways.

This movie only made like 7 million less world wide than captain America winter soldier and they both came out the same year. But most people will say this didn’t make money but cap WS was a success.
If they would have ended the movie with Peter staring at Stacey's grave...it might have actually saved the movie for what it was. Giving us the feeling of doubt on whether or not Spiderman would return but sadly it didn't and we are left with a friendly reminder of why Sony pulled the plug on this rebooted franchise.
I disagree with the goblin statement. Yes the Raimi Goblin has a cheesy costume it looks like a power rangers suit. But atleast it looks like a green goblin. This outfit is not good. I get what they were trying to do with his face looking like a goblin but I don’t it’s that good. The new goblin in No way home looks much better
Haven’t finished the review yet so I’m not sure if you mentioned this but it was around this time that trailers began showing WAY too much of the movie. The ASM2 trailer even had the balls to show the final shot of the movie as its final shot. I have no proof of this but I blame this movie for ruining trailers.
Good review cody, so many issues with this movie. I gotta say though, though i agree with all your comments, the only thing i disagree with is harry's goblin..id take the norman goblin suit from the first raimi film over this version.
Just letting you know there seemed to be a plan to bring Norman Osborne back, as there's deleted scenes and images of his head in some special container, and you can see those people that come in his room after his "death" are bringing that container in.

Gwen Stacy is always fated to die. It's the great tragedy of Spidermans life. That's why I hated her being introduced in Spiderman 3 it was too late for the entrance of Gwen there. And No Way Home vastly improved Electro.
I actually liked the scene at the end with the kid standing up to Rhino. It shows the impact that Spider-Man has on people and how he can inspire them to do what’s right. Yes, in reality it’s a stupid decision on the kids point, but god damn it’s a powerful statement when the only person willing to take a stand is a little kid. I think it helps bring Peter out of his funk.

14:37 The whole "nerd obsessed with the hero and the obsession becomes a hatred" is so repetitive in some superhero films. And Electro's whole hatred of Spider-Man both because Peter didn't know who he was and him thinking that Spider-Man was luring him into the sniper's path so he could kill him when Peter was calming Max down before the guy took a shot was stupid.
For me I think the villains were disappointing and probably the biggest negative. Action sequences were ok, although none have stuck in my mind and this movie feels silly to me like some other comic book movies so not terrible, but disappointing 100%
Electro was pointless and added nothing to the story. Norman Osborn is Green Goblin and they kill him off?? What a waste. The New Goblin somehow looked worse than James Franco. They should've dealt with Uncle Ben's killer and that creepy dude from the end credits scene instead.
8:55 Not only do they have Norman die of a terminal illness and never even become The Green Goblin in this continuity but its version of Harry sucks too and looks like emo Peter from Spider-Man 3. He's dying of the same illness that killed his dad and asks Spider-Man for his radioactive blood which Harry hopes will cure him. But Peter for some reason says no because he thinks it will kill Harry but Harry's already dying so he's willing to risk it making Peter come off as really selfish. Doesn't excuse Harry becoming the Goblin, kidnapping Gwen and throwing her off the bridge but Peter's selfishness partly caused her death. The whole thing with Norman and Harry's disease giving them deformities that make them look like goblins was on the nose too.
This movie is without a doubt one of the worst superhero movies ever made and proof a studio should have no influence on a movie whatsoever. Pure trash.

This is my favourite Spidey film. As someone who grew up with all the Raimi movies, this just truly feels like a comic come to life or a cartoon come to life. I understand why people have issues with it, but to me this is THE Spiderman I've always wanted to see in live action along with everything that comes with it!

I know you are not into animation but i recommend watching the Spectacular Spider-Man where you pretty much get how the old movies(even the Tom Holland movies) should've done where we see character development, characters that start as normal guys until they are turned into villains, the story progresses of how Spider-Man has to face the Big Man of Crime to later face if his menacing villain, the Green Goblin. You might hate why Oscorp is doing the villains but in Spectacular Spider-Man they do that too but the way it's handle you will like how the villains are created. Again, i know you are not a cartoon fan but if you like a series with continuity and want to see what's gonna happen next, WATCH Spectacular Spider-Man.

I actually really enjoyed this movie when this first came out simply because Electro seemed like a cool update, Jamie Fox was great and Electro had a really cool theme that gave him a huge presence on screen. Sadly on rewatching this on DVD I could barely sit through it at all.
I didn't mind this movie. My only gripe is their was WAY too much screen time and writing for the relationship of Peter and Gwen and not enough Spider-man.

This is the only movie that upon rewatches, my 13 year old, a huge comic movie fanatic, leaves the room and doesn't watch the end. She says she doesn't like it, but I know it's because Gwen's death is so gut wrenching she doesn't want to relive it.
Honestly, I have to diagree with your thoughts on the score. The electro theme is cool and memorable, it gave electro his identity and the Spider-Man theme felt epic and urgent at its best. I find that criticism opinion based.

I put Amazing Spider-man 2 on yesterday to rewatch it before No Way Home and as soon as I saw the graduation scene I remembered why I hate the movie and turned it off. Absolute hot garbage.
there are different comic titles floating or were floating out there, variant stories about Peter as an adult teaching high school, and still being SPIDER MAN, and then the other title as Peter is still in high school, so i see these three versions as variant stories just like in the comics and i enjoyed watching all three, and that's how i compartmentalize each of these.
I have an idea for how an ASM3 movie plot that'll really satisfy Sony. If they love lots of Spidey lore, I'll be sure this'll make them happy. Okay, we have Peter still grieving over Gwens death, but he's going on a date with Mary Jane (set up by Aunt May) and gets infatuated with a new cat burglar named Black Cat, who is stealing from Oscorp and it's new CEO, Otto Octavius. He's started going to college and is working for the Daily Bugle to pay for it, and gets a new rival in Eddie Brock. Spider-Man goes after Black Cat and gets the black symbiote suit. However, it starts making him more violent and aggressive so he gets rid of it. Kraven the Hunter comes to New York to fight Spider-Man, who beats him easily. The symbiote bonds with Eddie and they vow to destroy Peter. Octavius gets a sample of the symbiote and uses it to create Carnage who he bonds with Kletus Cassidy to destroy Spider-Man. Venom teams up with Spidey to fight Carnage and Dr. Octavius becomes Dr Octopus and forms the Sinister six (Dr Octopus, Rhino, Mysterio, Shocker, Vulture, and Kraven) to fight Spidey as our climax. Also, we set up the clone saga, the spider-verse, and the spider slayers for sequels. What? Does that sound like too much for a 2-hour movie? Tough toenails. I'm going to make the next movie exactly like this and get as much money out of this brand as I can squeeze. If you couldn't tell, this entire comment was sarcasm.
The Movie did have some cool easter eggs mainly the Oscorp stuff like Doc Ock's tentacles, Vultures Wings etc, had we gotta the third one here is who would have played the other four members of The Sinister Six of this Universe 1. Christoph Waltz as Dr. Otto Ocktavis/Dr. Octopus/Doc Ock 2. Matthew McConaughey as Dr. Adrian Toomes/Vulture but would have been voiced by Alastair Duncan 3. Shane West as Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven The Hunter 4. Zachary Quinto as Quentin Beck/Mysterio Aint making it up go and look it up on Unpunished Villains wiki I also think it would have been cool if we had gotten Dr. Miles Warren/Jackal in this Universe, in the comics he has an unhealthy creepy obsession with Gwen Stacy, Gary Oldman would have been perfect for that role, That Universe also had a Variant of Dr. Michael Morbuis/Morbuis; The Living Vampire, i also liked Felicity Jones as Felicia Hardy, id love to see her as Black Cat, she could still actively campaign for the role but probably for The SSU, if Black Cat is brought into the MCU id have Ayna Taylor Joy play her When you think of it in this Universe most of Spiderman's Villains are tied or are Oscorp Employees

The story and sony trying to cram the set up for S6 and Black cat movie was a problem and hurt the story but it was an exciting superhero movie with great acting, great cgi, great action scenes, the best live action suit. Best looking web swinging and all that. Story could have been better but i still love both tasm movies and AG is the goat spiderman

TASM 2 flawed but enjoyable for me. I dislike the suit in this one, prefer the first one. Both Tobey and Andrew are my favorites. Of course the Raimi trilogy ranked higher than TASM. But I put TASM above the MCU films. I like Tom more in CW/IW than his Spider-Man films.

The Garfield films definitely have the best effects and choreography. They’re amazing to look at.

14:37 The whole "nerd obsessed with the hero and the obsession becomes a hatred" is so repetitive in some superhero films. And Electro's whole hatred of Spider-Man both because Peter didn't know who he was and him thinking that Spider-Man was luring him into the sniper's path so he could kill him when Peter was calming Max down before the guy took a shot was stupid.
I think this one is better than the first ASM. Not sure if i like it more than any of the Raimi trilogy. But I do like this one a lot.
For me I think the villains were disappointing and probably the biggest negative. Action sequences were ok, although none have stuck in my mind and this movie feels silly to me like some other comic book movies so not terrible, but disappointing 100%
Electro was pointless and added nothing to the story. Norman Osborn is Green Goblin and they kill him off?? What a waste. The New Goblin somehow looked worse than James Franco. They should've dealt with Uncle Ben's killer and that creepy dude from the end credits scene instead.
8:55 Not only do they have Norman die of a terminal illness and never even become The Green Goblin in this continuity but its version of Harry sucks too and looks like emo Peter from Spider-Man 3. He's dying of the same illness that killed his dad and asks Spider-Man for his radioactive blood which Harry hopes will cure him. But Peter for some reason says no because he thinks it will kill Harry but Harry's already dying so he's willing to risk it making Peter come off as really selfish. Doesn't excuse Harry becoming the Goblin, kidnapping Gwen and throwing her off the bridge but Peter's selfishness partly caused her death. The whole thing with Norman and Harry's disease giving them deformities that make them look like goblins was on the nose too.
For me, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) is easily the absolute worst Spider-Man film I've ever seen in my life! This film gets a 1/10!
Did you see some of the ideas floating around for TAS3.. using Peter's blood to bring back dead loved ones and wacky stuff like that 🤣🤣

That is true, Green Goblin, he is not just the Joker of this franchise, but the Lex Luther as well, and they dropped the ball with that character big time.
The thing I remember most about seeing this in theaters was that the post credits scene was just a trailer for Days of Future Past. XD

This is my favourite Spidey film. As someone who grew up with all the Raimi movies, this just truly feels like a comic come to life or a cartoon come to life. I understand why people have issues with it, but to me this is THE Spiderman I've always wanted to see in live action along with everything that comes with it!

I actually enjoy this film and don't its as bad as a lot people say it is.
I know you are not into animation but i recommend watching the Spectacular Spider-Man where you pretty much get how the old movies(even the Tom Holland movies) should've done where we see character development, characters that start as normal guys until they are turned into villains, the story progresses of how Spider-Man has to face the Big Man of Crime to later face if his menacing villain, the Green Goblin.
You might hate why Oscorp is doing the villains but in Spectacular Spider-Man they do that too but the way it's handle you will like how the villains are created.
Again, i know you are not a cartoon fan but if you like a series with continuity and want to see what's gonna happen next, WATCH Spectacular Spider-Man.

I actually really enjoyed this movie when this first came out simply because Electro seemed like a cool update, Jamie Fox was great and Electro had a really cool theme that gave him a huge presence on screen. Sadly on rewatching this on DVD I could barely sit through it at all.
I didn't mind this movie. My only gripe is their was WAY too much screen time and writing for the relationship of Peter and Gwen and not enough Spider-man.

This is the only movie that upon rewatches, my 13 year old, a huge comic movie fanatic, leaves the room and doesn't watch the end. She says she doesn't like it, but I know it's because Gwen's death is so gut wrenching she doesn't want to relive it.
Honestly, I have to diagree with your thoughts on the score. The electro theme is cool and memorable, it gave electro his identity and the Spider-Man theme felt epic and urgent at its best. I find that criticism opinion based.

I put Amazing Spider-man 2 on yesterday to rewatch it before No Way Home and as soon as I saw the graduation scene I remembered why I hate the movie and turned it off. Absolute hot garbage.

there are different comic titles floating or were floating out there, variant stories about Peter as an adult teaching high school, and still being SPIDER MAN, and then the other title as Peter is still in high school, so i see these three versions as variant stories just like in the comics and i enjoyed watching all three, and that's how i compartmentalize each of these.
I have an idea for how an ASM3 movie plot that'll really satisfy Sony. If they love lots of Spidey lore, I'll be sure this'll make them happy.
Okay, we have Peter still grieving over Gwens death, but he's going on a date with Mary Jane (set up by Aunt May) and gets infatuated with a new cat burglar named Black Cat, who is stealing from Oscorp and it's new CEO, Otto Octavius. He's started going to college and is working for the Daily Bugle to pay for it, and gets a new rival in Eddie Brock. Spider-Man goes after Black Cat and gets the black symbiote suit. However, it starts making him more violent and aggressive so he gets rid of it. Kraven the Hunter comes to New York to fight Spider-Man, who beats him easily. The symbiote bonds with Eddie and they vow to destroy Peter. Octavius gets a sample of the symbiote and uses it to create Carnage who he bonds with Kletus Cassidy to destroy Spider-Man. Venom teams up with Spidey to fight Carnage and Dr. Octavius becomes Dr Octopus and forms the Sinister six (Dr Octopus, Rhino, Mysterio, Shocker, Vulture, and Kraven) to fight Spidey as our climax. Also, we set up the clone saga, the spider-verse, and the spider slayers for sequels.
What? Does that sound like too much for a 2-hour movie? Tough toenails. I'm going to make the next movie exactly like this and get as much money out of this brand as I can squeeze.

I also think it would have been cool if we had gotten Dr. Miles Warren/Jackal in this Universe, in the comics he has an unhealthy creepy obsession with Gwen Stacy, Gary Oldman would have been perfect for that role, That Universe also had a Variant of Dr. Michael Morbuis/Morbuis; The Living Vampire, i also liked Felicity Jones as Felicia Hardy, id love to see her as Black Cat, she could still actively campaign for the role but probably for The SSU, if Black Cat is brought into the MCU id have Ayna Taylor Joy play her
When you think of it in this Universe most of Spiderman's Villains are tied or are Oscorp Employees

I love this movie. The story and sony trying to cram the set up for S6 and Black cat movie was a problem and hurt the story but it was an exciting superhero movie with great acting, great cgi, great action scenes, the best live action suit. Best looking web swinging and all that. Story could have been better but i still love both tasm movies and AG is the goat spiderman

TASM 2 flawed but enjoyable for me. I dislike the suit in this one, prefer the first one. Both Tobey and Andrew are my favorites. Of course the Raimi trilogy ranked higher than TASM. But I put TASM above the MCU films. I like Tom more in CW/IW than his Spider-Man films.
