This was one of the best explained movie reviews (and without spoilers) i have ever seen of any movie. If all of your movie reviews (or even just the movies you were emotionally vested in) are like this, you definitely have a new fan. Heck, you have a new fan just based on this review and not just because you said what a Batman fan wants to hear. A lot of reviews have been glowing, but i feel i know so much more about what this movie (without giving the movie away) is going to deliver and how it delivers it based on your review...

@@TheRealBGregz it was deliberate. He cannot differentiate between Bruce and Batman. Because Batman is his real personality. By the end of the movie I think it was pretty much implied he will become playboy Bruce in the next one. Loved all 2 hours and 56 minutes of it. Dano's take on Riddler was fascinating with the spaces between his words and the uncomfortably long breathing. Also agree with you that they did an excellent job pushing Riddler/Penguin to the side in key moments so they never took over Batman's film.
Only potential negative is that sequel setup you're talking about as I was hoping for something... more fresh after we haven't seen a Riddler on screen since 1995. But Matt Reeves has all my faith after this spectacular film.

Great review! I honestly liked it better than Dark Knight.. I thought the movie looked better.. great used of the shadows and dark areas.. the score and soundtrack was better.. and honestly.. i like Pattinson's Batman more.. whenever he would punch someone.. it seemed like it really hurt haha.. Just the way this movie felt was just right up my alley. My main negative was the car chase scene. Was I the only one who thought it wasn't filmed that great? The camera jumped around too much and it was hard to tell what was going on half the time. I wished they could of shown more zoomed out shots of that chase. Overall.. I LOVED The Batman.

Since experiences are different for everybody it actually surprised me how the pace was for me, I've complained about long movies like It chapter 2 and even endgame. There was a small point in the middle I thought it was too long, when it got close to the end I was shocked it was ending, it was so engaging it did not feel like 3 hours to me. I didn't walk out going that was amazing but it's slowly getting there now. I finally got the penguin and riddler version on the big screen I've been looking for. I need to see it again to fully appreciate it.

    John 14:6
[6]Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Matthew 18:11
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
    John 8:12
[12]Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
    Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
    Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
    Luke 13:3
[3]I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
    Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
    Luke 6:27-38
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
6:33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
6:34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
    Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
    Matthew 5:2-12
    King James Version
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
    Matthew 24:4-14
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

I haven't seen the movie yet......But what u said is a Setup at the end, What u said is the only thing that can be considered a spoiler,, is definitely (and this isn't a spoiler everyone cause I have no idea) a little prelude to the Joker......They just can't make a batman movie without doing that In some way

Just bought on digital yesterday. So while I can say it was no the dark knight, I absolutely loved it, in fact this movie captures everything you expect in a Batman movie perfectly and then some. I can’t wait to see where this universe takes the character but I’m all for more.

23:17 you hit the nail on the head with that comment, to me this film did exactly what I hoped it would do and is probably my favorite Batman film.
On top of the cast and crew involved and the look of the film, the Riddler in that first trailer is what hooked me, I went in thinking this would be a very unhinged character, but I wasn't prepared for how unhinged he'd be. His opening scene gave me shades of Leatherface and Billy from Black Christmas.
This film got a 15 here in the UK (basically an R-rating but if you're under 15 you can't go) and it completely earned it for me without feeling excessive with the violence, instead it was the maturity of the story that earned the rating, from the first trailer it was clear to me that this isn't a film for kids.
I was fine with the Bruce Wayne depiction since as you said he's still an evolving character, seeing as his whole arc in the film is focused around him coming to terms with what Batman needs to be, it makes sense that the same would be true for Bruce's public persona. Plus there was never a moment for me where the public Bruce Wayne persona we all are used to would've fit or was needed.
I've seen it twice and didn't mind the runtime, about ten minutes in I settled into the pacing and the big finale added much needed energy to help it not feel drawn out, but it also didn't go overboard either like some other comic book films do in the third act.
I agree about the wink and nod moment being unnecessary, or at the very least I would've liked it more if it was maybe something different that was teased. I guess it depends on what direction they go with it.
    Still, great review man.

Unfortunately had to wait til today to finally see it and my god it's everything you could ever ask for in a batman movie. It didnt even feel like 3hrs, i was hooked the entire time. Just soooo much to love about it. Can definitely agree that the score didnt hit right in some scenes but it didnt really affect the scenes all that much. The opening was so well done, the first 10 minutes let you know that Matt Reeves has a true understanding of what the batman character is and that continued throughout the full film. Bruce being portrayed the way he is didn't bother me, seeing a Bruce Wayne in his traditional sense wouldn't have worked all that well for the story being told. I can see them giving us hints of Bruce helping rebuild gotham in the gothem pd and oenguin series and then by the time the next film comes out we see Bruce being a little more of what Bruce is.
All in all an excellent film 5/5 for sure.

Something that really bothers me about BvS is that Batman's such a horrible detective. Like when we see Bruce looking up to the sky and seeing Zod and Superman fighting as the city is destroyed. That's the scene Snyder gives you to try and understand Batman's point of view. But I could never believe Batman is that dumb. The worlds greatest detective couldn't figure out Superman saved the entire planet? The fact he instantly determines he needs to murder the guy who just saved the world is pretty contrived.

I’m seeing it tonight, it’s weird though I see several people absolutely hyped for it and I’m so meh on this film. I have low expectations not gonna lie. I guess it comes down to several thing, I didn’t like Reeves Apes films, I don’t like the suit, the look for the Riddler, and I think the whole grounded thing has been done and CBMs have moved on. Let’s hope it wins me over.

I completely agree. Being someone who has grown up on the comics and the batman animated series. Honestly my biggest gripe with all of the previous batman films is they didn't show his intelligence and detective prowess. He's called "the world's greatest detective" for a reason. And I didn't get that with the previous versions but this one is by far my favorite one and I am pretty picky on my comic book films.

This is honestly how I feel about this film. While there are things I didn't like such as some of the dialogue just being either clunky or attempting to be Progressive, and some of the characters being somewhat Bland.all of that is really just minor and somewhat being blown out of proportion by many, although I can understand people's gripes with it. no none of that is really the problem for me the real problem is it just feels like Matt Reeves avoided all the flaws of the previous incarnations of Batman (which are pretty easy to avoid at this point considering this is like the 10th Batman movie) and he proceeded to make a fairly well directed acted and shot film and that's about it. It's completely serviceable in terms of story and action, hell I'd even go as far to say it's pretty damn good in those regards but it just feels like another Batman movie with the Polish of hindsight being in Matt Reeves favor. It just doesn't come across to me as Matt delivering this great Batman movie it's more of him learning from peoples previous mistakes, wisely not making the same mistakes but also bringing nothing new to the table. I just feel it kind of lacked vision or any sort of real punch. I would still like to see a follow-up and I am looking forward to it but my expectations are firmly in check.

I finally watched this, and being that I'm old enough to have watched the campy batman on TV as a child in the early 70s I obviously got the very early version.
I'm one who has enjoyed only a few of the movies, but I did enjoy this one.
In fact, next to the Dark Knight, this one may have been the most compelling overall. Much like you, I found a couple of things that you could say I wasn't overly impressed with, and for me, it was the Riddler, I didn't care for his outfit and when he was "unveiled" I found him extremely underwhelming as in "bitch slap, go clean your room".
    Other than that, I'd go a B+ or 4/5.
    Sub'd.

I dunno why I’m watching this 2 years later, but I still bet that I would have been able to tell it was Colin Ferrel playing Penguin before the movie was over. During the club scene when Batman leaves he says something like “lemme know if there’s anything more I can do”. I heard Ferrel pretty clearly in that line.

I thought The Batman was somehow the best Batman film to date. Even better than Dark Knight. It's a stunning and hauntingly beautiful work of art. I've enjoyed all of Matt Reeves's work but I was still totally unprepared for the mastery at work in this film and the deep love and respect on display for the source material. I loved the epic scope they aimed for and achieved. They fully committed to the pitch black darkness and gave some relevant and timely social commentary with the mass shooter Riddler Bros in the finale without being too preachy. And I think for the first time in a Batman film they actually nailed a proper character arc for Batman, where he decisively learns that a philosophy of vengeance comes with consequences and is not a way to live, and he has a responsibility to fight for justice and to inspire people to do better, rather than simply punish wrongdoing. What the film should be celebrated for more than anything is its mastery of tone. A coherent tone is one of the hardest, most mysterious things to grasp, especially in $200 million blockbuster movies where creative and artistic control is so often snatched away from the filmmakers. The hauntingly eerie score and cinematography in this movie take you on a journey into hell. You really feel like you're a passenger on a journey into a city in its very last gasps and death throes of corruption, depravity, crime and decadence. The writing is superb as well. You fully understand how Gotham got to the fallen state it's in, and you even sympathize with The Riddler to an extent. They were bold and took a lot of big risks with this movie and I think all their decisions paid off. Before this movie, I loved Batman as a gadget-toting, thug-stomping MMA badass who lurked in the shadows until he had to fly his lil Batplane into the lair of the villain of the week to kick some ass. But I think The Batman finally nailed the formula down and figured out that Batman exists best as a detective in the larger context of a Maltese Falcon or Philip Marlowe type of character story where the larger milieu is the main attraction, and Batman is the one key character who's able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and take one decisive and fearless action to bring the mystery to its conclusion.

I had a fan experience & an opportunity to watch the Batman. What an awesome introduction to an even more grounded, young, and restless Bruce Wayne. With only two years for young Batman, the film is dark, it’s gritty and it’s all about the detective work. This is why we all love Batman because he has so many layers upon layers to explore. Matt Reeves just revolutionized the Riddler. Paul Dano was amazing, pretty much every cast is amazing. What I really like is that the film shows us how young Batman is scared to even fly off high-rise buildings still, but also throws out his body with no hesitation to enemy bullets, sometimes not being able to control his anger during a fight. He gets shot in the chest, punched in the head, and doesn’t give in. But above all it haunts him to see anyone get hurt because he’s still affected by the death of his parents. The cinematography is amazing, and boy the city of Gotham is just on another level. You’ll get scared to even pass by the city let alone live there. Shows the true nature of corruption and political deceives. Reeves created a unique Batman set just as Nolan’s was different than Tim Burton, as well as for Zack Snyders Batman. Each director builds their own unique elements and universe for Batman. Perhaps the greatest advantage is that character Batman is so versatile and any director can interpret it based on the excellent comic books written. DC needs to focus on these kinds of movies because honestly, they’re just perfect. I’m hoping we will get another amazing trilogy if it continues like this. My respects to all the previous and current directors for giving us different types of Batman. I really like all the Batman iterations since 2005. (Baleman, Batfleck. & Battison).

Overall I liked the movie, but what really took me out of it was the ending. The way things were going I was hoping for a more one on one ending, but it snow balled into another "save the city from the explosion" type ending which to me kinda came outta nowhere, especially since Riddler looked like he was going solo for most of the movie. I really think if they played more with the fact that Bruce/Batman aren't at the level we're mostly familiar with in this story, they could have easily had the Riddler have one riddle that Batman missed or answered incorrectly that caused the death or serious injury of a target, it would have shown us that Batman is still learning and he doesn't quite have all the tricks yet and it'd still give us a view of villains like the Riddler, Penguin and other less super powered villains that they are a genuine threat to Gotham and even maybe Batman. I know Batman is the hero and it's not like he's ever going to lose in the end, but he is human and he can be hurt not just physically, he could also be taken out mentally as well. That's just my take but again I did like it 👍🏻thanks for the video dude I really enjoy the channel
