I thought he was in the movie because he was a part of the Sovereign who were created by the High Evolutionary. Odds are, the High Evolutionary killed the Sovereign, save Adam Warlock and his mother as they could be used to hunt after Rocket. HE probably understood the Mother's drive to get revenge on the Guardians, so he saved only them for this purpose. They also established Adam wasn't completely ready when he was brought out of development which give him a narrative goal in the movie to mature.
I guess the best way to put it is he is a prime example of the moral of the movie, everyone has faults but they can build each other up together.

Yeah, this seemed to be my opinion and my thoughts coming out of it as well, i'm being careful to make sure i'm not just overly excited at watching a competent Marvel movie that didn't make me fall asleep, or made me feel like a spoon-fed child, after so much rubbish and nothing with no heart or soul, but it just seemed like a good marvel movie again that had focus on a simple story line with other shit happening in the background beacuse there's an ENTIRE universe out there, but it doesn't feel too cluttered or bloated. They actually did good. It feels like compared to the other 4 movies they need to copy and paste and s/hit out, this one was actually given some genuine love.
OH YEAH, and we actually had some real stakes and an actual threatening villain that is going some sick sh/t unapologetically, it was so incredible to see something /serious/, I almost blew my mind I was expecting some sort of joke when we were talking about animal experimentation, i'm genuinely surprised they didn't throw some sort of f*rry joke or some s/ht in there because it was getting a bit "too serious". Sorry lads, but like many people in the chat I disagree with you on this occasion, which is a rare thing. Just came back from the theatre, and overall I really enjoyed it. Yes, Adam Warlock was underbaked (like he was in the film), and a few of the jokes fell flat, but it moved at a decent clip, I was never bored, most of humorous moments got a laugh out of me (and the rest of the theatre), there were some surprisingly violent/gory moments in the film, but most importantly it got the emotional beats right. Unlike any of the recent MCU films, this movie actually made me feel something in a good way - I wasn’t feeling boredom or insulted at the stupidity/laziness of the story. I give this film a solid 8/10.

Frankly, I really *really* enjoyed the movie. Like the ending got me cause it's like, yeah, the movie could have been done better and all, some improvements here and there but like, when you realize it, this is the last hurrah of the Guardians and depending on the trajectory of the MCU, the last true proper hurrah of the MCU. It was bloated, characters all over the place but each character had several moments to themselves to grow and have conflict and at the end, I was sad cause this was it. This was the last movie in the MCU I and a lot of other people had been *really* looking forward to. Other than that, what else is left? Avengers? that's years away. And it being disconnected from the rest of the MCU has always been a plus to the Guardians. other than the Thanos connections with Gamora and the Power Stone, all of the GOTG movies happened in their own pocket of space (pun intended) where you could watch any of the three movies at any given point in time and get caught up real quick. You didn't need to watch *twenty* other movies to know what the fuck was going on. just one or two and that's it. So, flaws aside, this movie really meant something to me and I had a good time at the end of the day.

I actually mostly enjoyed the film, but agree it's the least of the 3 GOTG films. But what I did appreciate for one thing is that the effects are (for the most part) miles better than any of the recent Marvel output. Which from what I understand is down to Gunn not using the Volume and having mostly practical sets (albeit CGI enhanced no doubt) for the actors to move around in. But I liked a lot of these characters and did not mind that it wasn't as much of a cull of charcters as some people were led to expect. And I also appreciated that there were no mention of any of the other marvel content to come (at least that I could spot)

I'm not criticizing you for that I think sometimes the simple idea of just going to a movie and being entertained so you forget about your own problems for a little bit, i think thats lost with youtube movie critics because they have to pick apart everything because thats their job. She claimed sexism and racism and every other name under the sun as the reason why the veteran actor and main character was treated better than the no-name newbie. So insufferable was she that she got herself fired off the project and her character was simply removed from future movies: Saldana bitched herself out of a recurring role in one of the biggest and most beloved series of the past twenty years.

Gamorra to me was where I disagreed most with the crew’s take. As Fringy brought up, Loki is the way I feared they’d do it: “look she’s a happy Guardian now despite having gone through none of the smaller relationship building, character-supporting moments in 1”. Instead I could imagine the awkward scene post-Endgame where she’s stuck alone, she helped kill her father and save her sister, but she’s still harder than after Guardians 1+2, before her bigger story was told I perceived her as a gun for hire in Vol. 1, fine with crime and violence to achieve a goal, just not genocidal. Set back to that, she doesn’t feel she belongs anywhere, so she joins -perhaps at Nebula’s suggestion-the Ravagers who are misfits themselves and go do warrior type missions where she can sate a battle-lust. For once I think semi-clunky exposition may have helped that, but I got where Gunn was trying to keep her in the Guardians’ orbit but not pretend she bonded to the Guardians without going through the experience in this film which for her performs a similar function to Vol. 1.

  • @UncleBernhard
    @UncleBernhard Год назад +17

I think Guardians 3 is a great movie! It gets the emotions right. It makes me care about all the characters. Every character has an arc. They all end up at a different and interesting place.
Sure, Rocket goes through some real trauma and it starts dark. But it has to. Otherwise the payoff and rescue at the end would not work. It would be shallow otherwise. There has to be real trauma. But it’s a hopeful movie because Rocket overcomes his difficult situation.
Gamora’s and Quill’s story works very well, too. They are not in love anymore. But Gamora learns to appreciate Quill again but she doesn’t fall in love with him anymore. And Quill learns to let go. It’s bittersweet and very well told.
The same is true for Drax and Mantis. Drax is not the idiot we thought he was. Mantis recognizes that but she understands that she has to leave the group in order to move forward. This reminds me of Buffy. Everything in this movie reminds me of Buffy and the stories of Joss Whedon.
This movie has Joss Whedon written all over it. That’s a good thing. I love his storytelling. Down to the three buttons in the spaceship! That’s from Firefly.
And it has a clear point of view without being woke. We should protect the weakest members of our society and not sacrifice them for the greater good. This reminds me of Cabin in the Woods. Another Whedon movie with a great message that makes you think. Here in the mountains, that’s what we call great storytelling!
We are all nerds here. We love to read and we should appreciate a story well told. Guardians 3 is such a great story!

Pros and Cons of this movie:
    Pros:
-Rocket Racoon's backstory is totally dark and they even dare to show animal abuse
-Nebula is more chill and relax on this movie showing her character development how she went from grumpy tough chick because of Thanos' abuse to be the voice of reason of the group
-The Guardians have good chemistry together and you root every single of them to live
-Once again, another awesome hallway fight scene which becomes Marvel's new trend now since Daredevil TV Show
-The first time there's an F-Bomb on MCU when Peter told Nebula to "Get in the Fucking Car." Holy Shit, that was unexpected. They mostly said Shits a lot.
-I don't know if this is the last ending of the franchise but the ending is so heartwarming to see everyone is happy and find their purpose
    Cons:
-Adam Warlock is so out of place of this movie, not gonna lie I thought he's gonna be the main villain at first.
-Groot and Rocket who usually are dynamic duo don't share much screen times together even we never learn how these two met after Rocket escaped from Counter-Earth and how they become partners in crime. Also, Groot who's always be the heart and soul of the group somehow not doing much on this movie and he barely said "I Am Groot" a lot.
-When did Mantis learn how to fight? Her ability is just manipulating people's emotion even in Infinity War and Endgame, she's so useless
-The main villain has 5 year old tantrum as he likes to scream for no reason. Also, he kinda looks like he's somehow related to Kang because their design look similar. Also, what's up with Pre-Thanos' MCU villains with color purple now?
-Quill still doesn't get it that his Gamora dies and even past Gamora rejects him many times. Seriously, this subplot is so pointless.
-Peter Quill just being a side character of this movie as the movie is way focus on Rocket and his tragic backstory
-Drax is just there for being dumb tough guy and has to need to get babysit by Nebula and Mantis every time, you know "Strong Female Character and Dumb Guy" trope these days.
-There's some scenes that I found is keep longer and longer and I even thinking, when does this movie end?
-The Gold People from Guardians 2 is so pointless and turns out, they are one of the creations from the main villain? Even I forgot the Gold Chick was there most of the time.
But, I'm gonna give this movie 7.5/10 and it's one of the best MCU Phase 4 since No Way Home.

@@lexian2006 I think the same, Iwuji's acting was so damn good ! the problem is the writing materials he got. high evolutionary started as cold and ruthless but then he became irrational despite being a scientist... like he didnt need to blew up a planet full of ordinary people he created... the script is just nonsense
that is why in my comment i was joking - maybe marvel give bad material on purpose so High Evolutionary doesnt outshine Kang... but still IMO, Iwuji showed better performance than Major (Kang)

I feel nathan fillion was cast to further drive this point, as he is famous for firefly and serenity, which ultimately has the exact same themes as this movie: an entity that is willing to destroy the humanity in ourselves to achieve the perfect civilization
For me this is easily the best villain aside from Thanos, and in certain ways better.. ultimately, the bad guy is a lenin, Stalin, mao figure, the ultimate authoritarian.

Another good Simpson's moment was when the Chinese and Italian Mafia were fighting on the front lawn, and Marge tells Homer to shut the front door. "But Marge, there's a guy all in white in the back who hasn't done anything yet, and I just know when he does it'll be really cool." "Homer." So he closes it, and there's the sounds of something really cool happening just outside the door.

The Best: The movie leaned into Rocket's backstory/emotional arc really hard. Did a pull a little too hard at the heartstrings sometimes? Yes. But it was a good plotline that didn't play it safe, thus I'm surprised Disney allowed it.
The Worst: Almost every hero and villain in GOTG3 seems to be simultaneously human yet wildly super-powered and also quite vulnerable yet totally invincible. There's a few moments in the movie where it even goes out of it's way to be inconsistent.

What's interesting is that a lot of people seem to like this movie even the most hardened nerds seem to have liked it. I've had my many gripes with Marvel and it's one of the things that has gravitated me towards this channel... that being said I can't think of the last time this panel said anything good about Marvel in general. This movie got pretty good reviews from both critics (which I could care less about)and audiences (even though at the end I form my own opinion) and that's extremely rare. Even people who don't like James Gunn even like this movie.
My point is this you guys got to be positive about some things Marvel is not all that bad.

It was 2 or 3 movies slapped together. Rocket's part was clearly the main focus but every other parts had some sort of story behind them but was hastily stitched together. It could have been focused on Rocket for this movie and maybe Adam Warlock as the movie's Mr. X, and maybe they could have a second movie focused on Quill, Gamora, and Nebulla patching each other up and restructuring the Guardians. They did Adam dirty, man. The guy was supposed to be the one who talked Thanos to putting everything back after almost wiping life out of the universe but they turned him into a kid that's about to throw a tantrum at a toy store.
That being said, this IS probably the better MCU movie since Phase 4.

I loved it. It may not stand up to serious critical analysis but Iwuji’s performance as the High Evolutionary was brilliant- entertaining and sinister without being cliche if you ask me. I think Saldana knocked it out of the park too and I really enjoyed Drax’s dialogue. It was cool to see Nathan Fillion too as I’ve just got the missus watching Firefly. I thought I was going to hate Adam Warlock but I actually found his mummy issues funny and I liked his English style accent- it reminded me of Arnold Rimmer. In fact, the whole movie had a feel of Red Dwarf about it, and I’m pretty sure James Gunn has been watching some Graham Linehan, Chris Morris and Peter Baynan stuff.

So, in order for a James Gunn's movie to work, you need:
    - A nice character arc for one or two characters.
    - A plot that is as solid as a Twitter user's mentality to string every thing together.
    - Characters that is quirky, rude, and obnoxious but has a good heart like those of Michael Bay, just less abrasive.
    - T H E M E S.
    - The emotional tones that hit hard like the asteroid killing the dinosaurs.
    - Cool and body horror-inspired ideas and concepts, which may hurt the pacing and the plot.
Honestly, I really enjoy the movies. It was the first Marvel movie I saw on the cinema, ever. And I myself am quite familiar with how themes and arcs are handled like this... because it feels like it came from a Japanese anime - characters can have deep and thoughtful moments but acts over-the-top most of the time to draw the attention of the young audience. The movie isn't very deep... and it doesn't care. That's probably why I love it (and I was quite sad when hearing the criticisms here, but they are fair enough). The movie, or James Gunn himself, embraces the quirkiness, wackiness, and weirdness at any level and goes along with it. This may hurt the experience in a professional and critical way, but please the emotional needs and desires for joy from the audience. Ya have no idea how many times I face-palmed with the lame jokes and jerked my tears with the characters in the entire movie.
Overall, it's not great. But a 6.5/10 or 7/10 could be enough.

It's a different team this time. It's different. It makes sense to me. But the movie as a whole is missing some spark I can't explain. Idk what it is exactly. Unfortunately it felt longer then it should. But it wasn't oversaturated with humor either. Idk, it was good though, I'm just being critical
