- Finally get the opportunity to drive one off the diesel gate TDI’s with a DSG transmission post fix.
Thank you Caleb for all your insight on what it’s like to own and live with a 2014 Vw Passat TDI .

We bought a 2014 Passat TDI (w/ DSG) right after the dieselgate scandal hit. Drove the hell out of it for 2 years and then accepted VW's buyback offer for 2.5x what we paid for it. Naturally we tried one or two other vehicles, and then went looking for another TDI (with a manual trans this time), which we hope to keep for the next 20 years. These are fantastic cars.
I do agree, specifically with a manual transmission on it. I’ve always wanted one, still do.
You know. She's a special girl. Dsg service every 30k. Coolant flush every 20k. High flow air filter. Fuel filter every oil change. Oh yea, she'll love you back. Give you that hauk tuah.
I'm in Europe at the time, rented a vw passat diesel, and I'm impressed, I live in las vegas, wouldn't mind this kind of mpg at all. Specially compared to a jeep gc. Or 4runner
06.30.24: Got a pristine 2015 Jetta Wagon with 80,000 miles.
Took a long time to find a pristine model and I had to pay a premium ($15K), but I am confident it will outlast my years.
Congrats!!👏🏻
Really wish this Passat had more aftermarket support. I love this vehicle
I do agree with you, that is definitely a downside to such a great car.
I bought a 2014 a little over a year ago with 84,000 miles, and aside from a burned up alternator it’s been pretty good.
🤘🏻
The TDI Passat can go for high 10-20k at dealers. If in real good condition, maybe even 20-25k.
It's better at highway/road trip driving rather than stop and go city driving. Hitting 40-50 mpg makes it a great long distance car.
Edit - The DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox), is a computer controlled manual transmission. Shifts faster, but the hesitation from a stop is the system "Letting out the clutch".
I’ve been into VWs for years. Had a 96 GTI with the 2.7 vr6. Absolutely loved it. Had a 2012 Jetta with the 5 cylinder and a 5 speed manual. I just bought a 2014 sportwagen TDI with the 6 speed manual 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love it so far.
That’s awesome, congrats!!
I’ve been overloooking this car it’s so nice!
I do agree!
Letoya I have the same one with 64,000 miles if you're interested. Selling it for $14,000.00 due to quite a bit of international travel. Perfect condition! Silver color TDI SEL all options. Located in Fort Lauderdale FL.
Also New tires and a new battery, hell just paid for a new registration as I wasn't planning on selling it.
@@whatwasisaying1338 Should be good for a while now that you have it up to date. My Passat was pretty much immaculate! Sold it due to an international move. Otherwise I wouldn’t have! Best of luck with yours. 🙏
I have a 2016 Passat SE with the 1.8 TSI. I've gotten up to 41 mpg on long road trips of 550 miles back when it was new. High thirties now with 130K on it.
Those are great numbers!!
Vw enthusiast here! Definitely change that Dsg fluid every 40k it’s taking a ton of heat from clutch slip heat and fluid degradation. I bought this exact car brand new not yours but I DROVE that car wow. The only problem I had was the heater core kept clogging due to the EGR cooking the coolant making the coolant acidic. I did 6 heater cores in the time I had that car. That was the most expensive thing and absolute pain to do. It’s really easy because the dash doesn’t come out. But that car saved my life I was hit at a red light by a driver on fentanyl. Totaled at 179k after I did all my maintenance my self lol but I won’t buy it again because I get 1-8 mpg less in my golf sport wagon 1.8t and diesel is so expensive unfortunately for it to make sense because I love tdi rattle. If I lived in Florida emissions would be deleted if I bought another one.
I’m right there with you. I’m glad you walk out of it ok.
Thank you for sharing!!
I own a 2005 Golf TDI (my first car), it’s pretty sweet. Always interested in the newish dieselgate VW’s if I ever want to upgrade when I grow out of the golf, thanks for the video!
I’ve always been interested myself. Thank you for watching.
Heater core is in the middle in front of the center console. Comes out the driver’s side by removing the panel on the side. I believe you first loosen a bolt out in the engine compartment firewall. Mine has that same vent heat problem on the passenger side. Heater core job didn’t look too bad. If mine is still under warranty I’ll definitely have the dealership do it, but if not doesn’t look bad to do. Just make sure to get a good coolant flush first or the new heater core will plug up too I’ve heard.
Awesome and super helpful info. Thank you!
I had a base model 2015 TDI SE manual. I miss it. It was great. The vinyl seats were very uncomfortable in the Texas heat.
The highest I got on mine was 54.2 mpg, impressive cars straight piped and tuned sounds like a diesel truck similar to a cummins
Very cool!!
Are there any downpipes available for the tdi Passat?
I’ve driven a lot of cars. My favorite car I’ve ever driven was a 2014 Jetta TDI with the DSG. Never owned it though
Sweet!!
Bought 2015 VW TDI Highline (SEL+) brand new in 2017 (sat in lot for 2yrs). Got it stolen - found 2 days later with gasoline in the fuel system -total write off. Year later, bought the same year, make and model, but seller removed the DEF system and slightly tuned it. Approx 170k miles going strong.
Oh yeah ... Diesel plus manual. I wouldn't sell it for $30k.
I don’t blame you.
I test drove a 2014 Passat TDI back in summer of 2016. It had around 200k miles and was throwing a code for one of the glow plugs, I almost bought it and probably should have to be honest! I was very impressed with the way it drove and accelerated. I was so worried that it would have cost somewhere around $1k to repair and the car was already at the top of budget at the time.
We're moving cross country, I might pick one of these TDI's up.
You should, my nephew still has it and loves it.
Already got the 2021 Tiguan in that orange color❤️❤️❤️
You can retrofit the stock headunit to have apple carplay and android auto. I've done it on my 2014 passat tdi
Sweet!! Thanks for sharing!
How
Hopefully getting mine tomorrow. South Africa.🙏
Exciting! Good luck and enjoy!!
Nope, heater core is under center console, toward the passenger side, toward the engine bay.
Getting one Saturday 2015 last year TDi
Congratulations, good luck with it.
I’m guessing if you did your Timing belt your over 130,000. I have. 2014 TDI and DSG i am not having problems with mine get about 38-40 summer 32-35 winter 600-700 a tank. I went Kerma TDI tune made it faster and average better MPG
Got it done sooner!
What city l
Mileage where do you live
It's actually manual auto. It's manual built but auto controlled
There is an APPLE INTERFACE in there. It lives underneath the ELBOW rest center console. VW sells a cable that will plug into your APPLE DEVICE than take that signal to the head unit. I don't know the part #....
Get us more info on this 🙏

For my first car, I can't decide whether to buy a diesel or gasoline car. I'm in Europe and I would drive both 50/50 in short distances in city and also longer distances on highway. I want to buy 2015-2016 VW Passat (B8). Any recommendations?
💯 i would buy it in diesel format.
@@VikingsGarage Thank you!! Why would you go for a diesel? They have DPFs and are bad for short distances and I would do those 10-20min drives as well. I'm not trying to justify gas engines but rather to understand which is best for me.
That is Alcantara in the middle section of the seats, not cloth!
The audio quality is dog water! The car always needs something expensive fixed. Just replacing the heater core is a nightmare, or very expensive to get shop to donit
This is true!!
É Lindo. Fantástico
MILEAGE PROBLEM. 2014 passat TDI 60k miles on car. STRANGE I only get 20MPG city and good 38/42 HWY. cant figure out why such big difference from city to hwy 20 city 40 Hwy
Hello, before 2015, which gearbox does the diesel have? And how much does diesel consume per 100 kilometers?
Tooele County?
Yes Sir!! Beautiful place.
Slow ass hell, and you spend all your gas savings plus a whole lot more money in expensive repairs
I don’t disagree, a Toyota Corolla gets way better gas mileage. 🤷🏼♂️
