- Big trout have been mixed in with a lot of small trout lately, so I wanted to upsize the lures to only target the bigger trout. Started off with a small plastic and had a hard time switching because it was working so well. Kind of a fail but that's the theme I suppose. Big lure for big fish hopefully. The winter tactics continue.

Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters Good point. I am in Galveston and have watched our area fishing deteriorate to the point of no return. This guy still has good fishing down south. They are catching Tarpon off piers and jetties. The last Tarpon caught from a Galveston pier was 12 years ago.

Jacob Orndorff yes, it really is. I started fishing Galveston in 1970 and I am alarmed at the lack of fish. The bay system is all but empty and the surf zone produces very little, even with clear green tides under a southeast wind. And that is a real shame about Rollover.
You have really seen it change then. I was born in 98 so I don't really know what it used to be like
Jacob Orndorff yeah, I was born in 1958. Catching king mackerel off the 61st street pier was a regular occurrence. Giant grouper and sawfish at the ends of the jetties. The big sharks were here- tigers, lemons, greater hammerhead. Green surf would be full of big trout. It was pretty awesome.

That spot was on fire. A shame the sun had to go down. It's just funny how you wish for trout and are like "aww it's a red". Here in Florida reds are not as common and we get excited when it's not a trout and see a nice red on the line. :P

you should try single hooks on lures, they are more effective and don't hurt bad the fish

My Lews Tournament Pro G started to make the same noise. All you have to do is put some of the lube they provide you with into the external lube port which is on the bottom of the reel on the handle side and then your problem is solved

dude change those factory hooks. the one and only factory hook i will trust is the ones on the heddon super spook. if i could find them in bulk all my baits would have those hooks on them. until i can find them in bulk it's owner or gamakatsu for me. oh never mind those trokar look pretty sick.

Personally, I had rather Have those weaker hooks on the corky. You may be putting too much muscle into fighting those fish. If you lighten up on your drag, The lighter hooks will safe your corky. If you hang on something, you can pull it free. Best to have bent hooks and save your corky, rather than a broken line and a lost corky. Especially if your lost corky is pinned to a trophy trouts mouth. BTW, I love watching your videos. Keep up the good work!

They use lite hooks because its a heavy bait, now you just added more weight to that corky. It's going to sink faster but move slower. Just saying.

How effective is lure fishing with circle hooks? Have you ever tried it? I’d like to abandon j hooks all together for the sake of the fish but I’m yet to learn how effective they are?
P.s. Don’t beat yourself up so much for the escapees, it’s part of what makes fishing fun as long as your catching something!
tony39802 this post is very old but using circle hooks on lures work way better. You will land for fish you hook. All of the nicer brands (rapala,ects) Have circle hooks on their expensive lures
