Some questions: On my 1995 Mustang GT, it looks like I could just remove the front-left nut off the track stud, and drop this right over the seat track. No need to completely remove the seat and install it under the track? If installing over the carpet, do I cut all the under-carpet bits of plastic off of the included cleat? My carpet has no holes in it for the cleat. Seems to me the design could be improved by stamping and folding the cleat right into the sheet metal, eliminating the plastic cleat entirely.
All good questions. You could try just removing the nut and installing the CarpetSaver on top of the seat mount. Some mounts have geometry that makes them best suited to installing the CarpetSaver under them, so that's the most "universal" method. Does your Mustang's floor mat have a metal grommet for the cleat? It's possible your carpet was replaced and a cleat wasn't installed. Regardless, the Mustang CarpetSaver includes hardware and a bushing to install it in cars without a cleat. Would drilling that self tap cause the floorboard to rust over time?
Good question! The self-tapping screw does not go into the floorboard. The screw is very short. It only goes into the plastic hook.
