Im now 58 years old. And this still, is possibly the best 'live ' performance I've ever seen !! It is so RAW and REAL !!! I hope the younger generation respects how amazing the Stones were with Mick Taylor on board!!
This '72 concert series is so good. I find these live versions far more entertaining than the studio recordings. People listening to this for the first time say "I didn't know the Stones could play like that!" Well they did when they were young and at their absolute peak!
The incomparable but often ignored and forgotten Mick Taylor on guitar. With The Stones for just five years when they were at there absolute peak. They are never as good before he joined or after he left the band. One of the greatest rock guitar players ever.
By far my favorite Rolling Stones era. Mick Taylor had such a huge sound. The tone was raw and fluid. The Stones are always awesome but the sound today is too smooth. The edge is gone. The guitars are supposed to be front and center in this song as they are here. Today you hear them but more in the background. Thank you Mick Taylor!
When Slash regards Mick Taylor as his greatest inspiration, you know he was out of this world. Love you Ronnie, but Mick Taylor era was the unquestionably the greatest period of the Stones.
The Mick Taylor era coincided with the greatest period of songwriting for Mick and Keith. I agree Taylor is better than Ronnie but to be fair to Ronnie, Mick and Keith were at their peak before he joined
Ronnie isn't about precision or flow. Ronnie is a rough country rock 'n roll player. The comparison to Mick Taylor is pointless. The equivalent of comparing Steve Vai to Angus Young.
this is honestly the most well put together and fluid guitar solo I have ever heard... there's a difference between just playing fast and actually getting a feel out of it
Taylor: great playing...and great timing. He came along just as Mick & Keef were writing some of their best songs. His lead also enabled Keef to do the chugga chugga at which he so excels. All in all, great stuff.
Gracias Sr. Taylor.
@@Kleermaker1000 Taylor fit his era, saw the stones thru a rough patch. After this much time Ronnie has proven to be the Stones, best, longest lasting, lead guitarist. I do miss faces.
Whatever...Whomever, that stands the test of time, is always going to be great. In the last 50+ years of R&R, there have been a lot of great moments in rock history and that still get your toes tappin'. It's all great because it's only rock n roll...and I like it!
@@roncarter2188 This is true if your talking about solo's...then yeah way better than Brian Jones, not even close. Nothing beats a great, live, Mick Taylor solo, the guy is pure gold on the guitar!
Salut.
Mick Taylor just stood there and played his heart out. He was always impecable. He brought The Stones to a whole new level. He tightened them up. He made them a live band worth seeing. He wasn't sloppy like Jimmy Page ( im a JP fan so don't get mad lol ). Mick just night after night blew everyone away. The Stones have never recovered from him leaving. Wood is another Keith basicly. Mick Taylor is next to Clapton, Hendrix, Page, Johnson ect ect.
Wow, just wow. What a fucking storm of anger and raw power, of rock n roll energy, of MUSIC. This is just... beyond what mere mortals can produce. Mind blowing.
I literally have goosebumps watching this!...I love Ron wood like a brother but mick Taylor brought out the best of everyone in the band..his lead is the perfect foil to keith's sublime rhythem, its almost sexual...some people might actually get what I mean...
This is the typical rythm between Taylors guitar, Keith riffs and Cralies Battry coming after. This soul driven rythm like all the grat song they made. I luv STONES 1972
the band was so dynamic with taylor and keith's contrasting sounds. rythm or lead it didn't really matter because they both sounded so good. i will say that with taylor the band's sound had so much more depth than at any other time. you rock taylor and you better be on the final tour!!!!!
Mick Taylor is just stratospheric and everybody here's been rightly singing his praises but ladies and gentlemen, how about some love for Charlie! That cat's got some insane swing going on here.
I might be wrong but did Wyman get the basics down for this messing around and Jagged and Richards pushed him off any credit I read that in a biography of Mick's. Don't know how true it is
Raunaq Sahu I love charlie but the stones sound was that guitar!!! Nobody say “maaaan them drums tho”.. it’s that guitar that literally grabs your soul and makes u feel the explosive energy!
saw MT at the club tip toe in bridgeport Ct around 1988 with Corky Lang and his allstars, it was incredible... i grew up on the stones and couldn't believe he'd be at this dive bar in BPT.. he was hammered but it didn't matter ... he was god then and still is... the stones owe him his just due not getting any cash since 1982.... not right!!! love Ronny too for different reasons... MT deserves way more cash and recognition
antiheropizza- I agree w/ you. Taylor is in-fucking-credible but Mick Jagger's charisma is a gift from from above. He was born to be a front man. Anyone who says w/o Taylor, the Stones are "common" is crazy.
I have played guitar for 50 years now. I can speak to this issue of "best" etc. Most of it has to do with good timing, I mean being in the right place at the right time and getting the attention (being good looking REALLY helps). There will always be thousands of great players that are never acknowledged...if you want that you gotta be lucky (timing), good looking enough (or have an interesting look) and have the talent. And new "sound" really helps too i.e., Hendrix.

Best use of a spotlight in a concert. Mick Taylor was on fire. RIP Charlie.
The incomparable but often ignored and forgotten Mick Taylor on guitar. With The Stones for just five years when they were at there absolute peak. They are never as good before he joined or after he left the band. One of the greatest rock guitar players ever.
Pure smooth lead guitar, the Stones were the best rockers of that era with Mick Taylor
The best Rhythm section in history + one of the best guitar solo maestros of all time = 1969-1974 Rolling stones.
Bill & Charlie simply kill on this!
Agreed!
Stones are at their peak right here.
Keef's rhythm tone on this song is absolutely filthy; wish I could make a guitar sound like that.
If you like that guitar sound i recommend you to listen to bad religión first album AND the Stooges heavy líquid EP
I love Taylor's gorgeous licks but the whole band is just killing it...I mean the WHOLE band
The Rolling Stones with Jagger, Richards, Taylor, Wyman & Watts is literally The Greatest Rock & Roll Band This Earth has ever saw...Period.
Yes.
Mick Taylor rules. The sound was never the same after he left. He took them to that next otherworldly level.

How rock should be....live and raw........Taylor......WOW!!!!
Gold Stones era with Mick Taylor. Fantastic. Never as good since he left.
the catalog of the Rolling Stones is very deep, and they cast a very long shadow over the trends and culture of popular music for the last 50 years.

Thumbs up if you searched Mick Taylor
U haven’t lived till u see the Stones 💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋🙏🏻✌🏻
The best years of the Stones.
No stage presence from mick, just straight shredding. Respect
MICK TAYLOR !!!!!! Just a Fantastic guitarrist !!!!!!
Richards, Wyman and Watts. Greatest rythym section ever.
Mick Taylor’s contribution to the Stones’ sound in this era cannot be praised enough.
Give me Mick Taylors guitar playing anyday!
so true not bad for a bluesbreaker
Matthew Woolston me too
Stones were the best with Taylor
Mick Taylor effortlessly wrings that Gibson till it sings like a dark angel then wails like a wild banshee.. Outstanding!
That Gibson in Mick's hands..awesome
might be the greatest Rock n Roll song ever written.
only a player understands that
Interstate love song is the only other song i can think of that could lay claim. Mick Taylor the best of the best.
Correct
It is my lad
It is. And if it's not, it's one of about a half dozen other songs written by the Stones.
Taylor killing it, what a genius guitar player!!!!!
goddamnit Mick Taylor you dog!! Taylor and Richards are the greatest lead-rythym combo ever
This is probably one of the best tracks the stones have done of course with one of the best lead guitarist ever
Best wishes and greetings to the English-speaking world from Guadalajara Mexico.
They were actually the "greatest rocking roll band in the world" here. The guitarists, lead singer and the back end were all world class!
you know your obsessed when you literally go through this tour numerous times...every day! Greatest band ever!!
Mick Taylor. what an underrated guitarist, absolutely incredible.
Taylor never misses a note!!!
Saw them in 72. Man, Taylor's playing mind blowing !!!
I thought that Richards, Wyman and Watts were MT sidesmen
Are you alive man ?
Got 2 be one their best tracks ever recorded 'live' and no one come within a thousand miles of mick taylor...peace and love sisters and bros✌

Mike Taylor is amazing ! Ronny wood is born to be a rolling stones i love him but the sound of Taylor was just perfect !

Mick Taylor was the BEST thing that ever happened to the Rolling Stones! An incredible guitarist!

Second best, Brian Jones started the band, named it, showed Richards how to play guitar. He also showed ungrateful Mick Jagger how to play harmonica.

all the versions suffer that.
You know what works? I usely just listen the song a few times in a row :)
Martijn Talma True, true...
Gimme Shelter is my all time favorite song and the '72 tour live versions are the best. Wickedly dangerous riffs.
This is great version. I tuned in to see Keith and got Mick Taylor in the spotlight instead. A rare treat!
