Mick Taylorvwas great and worthy of all the praise here, but and his groove holding it all together and allowing Taylor to shine is critical. It’s the sum of the parts that makes this so special
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to listen to this version when I was 18 years old, although it was already in the early 80's. It changed my life as a guitar player and got me hooked for good. This is the very best of of the Rolling Stones. September and October 1973 were pure magic.
They worked really well together, both were better together as Mick Taylor did absolutely nothing without the stones worth of anything besides what? Joan Jett? Stones still had a bunch of great music left in them, Some Girls was a fantastic record and so was Emotional rescues. I love both but Taylor didn’t do anything
I love Taylor’s work, and songs, with the Stones, but many of my favorite tunes by the band both pre- and post-date his time with them, so I guess I’d have to disagree with the ‘best when they had him’ thesis- he did add a sort of melodic lyricism that they never had without him, I’d freely admit that
@@johngregory9496 to each his own, but Wood and Richard’s put our 2 more number 1 albums and countless hits. Mick Taylor’s biggest accomplishment since the stones was playing a solo for a Joan Jett song. . . . .
The night when everything gelled - each musician, the whole band as one, behind this iconic 3 chord song that took live rock to its pinnacle. This night the Stones were the greatest rock & roll band in the world, before then and since.
Taylor never got enough credit because he stood like a statue delivering some of the most emotion filled solos of rock history. It takes concentration to deliver perfection!
I was at this concert. Wembley pool sept 9th, 1973. People desperate to get a ticket. I paid 15 pounds for a 2.20 pound ticket, stalls 2nd row in front of Taylor. I taped the concert and I still have the cassette. I agree this is the best version I've heard, together with Philadelphia 2nd day, first show. This wembley recording is fabulous whereas the Philadelphia recording , albeit not the performance, lacks some overall quality. Taylor's work on both versions is wonderful.

I've loved every line up , they're still my favorites of all time, even though I think every tour is going to be their last . In Australia I've only ever seen them once in 95 , but I still remember every lick
People will debate their views on the before and after Taylor quality of the Stones music. Believe me, I really like a bunch of songs from before and after myself. Kieth being the main riff creator, it’s not as though Taylor wrote the hits we all hope to hear at a concert. There’s absolutely no denying that his time in the band was in conjunction with the greatest productivity, creativity, and legacy establishing music and partying they ever had. Brian had reached the limit of his contributions. While being an extremely talented musician who could play a multitude of instruments, he was not a great guitarist. I like Ron Wood, and he is a good guitarist, but in 46 years with the band, I really can’t see where he has offered the slightest bit of change in sound, depth of writing or dropped my jaw with his skill. I really wish it wouldn’t come to ugliness between folks. To say that The Rolling Stones weren’t good after MT left is ludicrous. To say that they weren’t as good before he joined is only to say that the entire band (minus the incredible accompanying musicians on horns & piano) were less experienced and doesn’t take into consideration the massive change in the entire Rock N Roll genre between ‘64-‘69. There’s a guitar player that auditioned after Taylor left that was great and you can find a song that he played with them from the Black and Blue album on RUclips. Everyone in the band thought he was terrific, but he was American and they wanted to keep the Stones a 100% British group. Rock bands are like sports teams, television shows, and fast food franchises. They will have ups and downs in quality, legendary players and characters, and new products or strategies that just don’t work out. But there’s always reruns, new seasons, and the McRib is still popular for a few weeks each year! Enjoy your day, let’s disagree without fighting, and for Pete’s sake, turn up the Stones and dance like you don’t care who’s looking!
Imagine john bohnam, jack bruce and keith richards surrounding micky taylor while he belted out his superb sweet notes. God only knows what beautiful music they would have given us
